[And then they found Barry again, only to lose him in Phandalin, which Taako feels like he should apologize for, next time he sees Barold.] Davenport was with Lucretia, that one's a long story but he's not on her side. And uh, Lup was gone. For a long time. She got her dumb ass stuck in that stupid umbrella.

[Taako lifts a shoulder in a lazy shrug, figuring Magnus will feel the gesture and leave the whole Barry thing at that. Even if Barry begged him to do it, he still feels shitty and guilty about the whole mess.]

So you know how she's a lich, and how she made that stupid umbrella at the uh... fuck, the place we made our magic weapons? Anyway that umbrella would eat the wands of defeated wizards, but I guess when she died and went lichy it vored her up too.

[Taako has cried over this shit, but he manages to make it sound like he's just describing some annoying bullshit that Lup pulled, in a way that only a sibling can manage.]

[Magnus has known Taako long enough to know when to drop it. So, yeah. He drops it.

He also knows when Taako is bullshitting. He's not gonna wave off something this big happening to his sister. Lup is his everything. ...But, of course, he doesn't wanna push this too far, so he chooses his words carefully.]

[She's still a lich and without a body but Taako has faith that Barry will figure something out. He's smart enough and desperate enough to get Lup back exactly the way she should be.]

[He's grateful to hear that Lup is alright. He figured it couldn't be too bad if Taako could stand to mention it, but he still worried about her, of course.

He doesn't need to ask what they won.] Holy shit.

[There's disbelief at first, followed by a wave of relief. He rolls onto his back, still processing. The last thought he'd paid regarding the Hunger was that they'd fucked up. Magnus had thought they'd lost the game. This is fuckin' fantastic. He's grinning ear to ear.]

Holy shit, we did it.

[He lays in that feeling for a moment before he realizes Taako isn't quite as enthusiastic. He remains on his back, but turns his head toward Taako.]

You were there for it.

[That delight is a little infectious and Taako can't help smiling in return, though it turns a little wry when Magnus looks at him.]

I dunno if we're gonna see that other side of that victory, sweetheart.

[It does hurt to face that reality. But honestly? Only a little. Not without sympathy for Taako's opinion, he shrugs.]

Way I see it, it's a victory. We prevented this thing from destroying any more realities. Blaze of glory, right?

[Magnus was already willing to die—like, permadeath—to defeat the Hunger, so knowing they won makes him feel like his life was worth something.]

...Besides, we get a free hundred years.

[The response is about what he expected from Magnus; even without Julia, Magnus has always been ready to go out in a blaze of glory if it meant protecting people, and what better way to go than saving the world?

Taako isn't quite that selfless, but he doesn't want to let this thing ruin the mood, even if there's still more he has to say.]

[He manages a grin, leaning in to give Magnus a quick kiss. One day he's going to actually have to deal with all this, but... later.]

[Magnus gets a laugh from that. If anyone could live forever, it'd be Taako.]

[Taako props himself up a little, so that he can see Magnus better and be seen in return, then...

Drops his spell.]

I, um, there were these liches? They were running this fucked up game show and we had to like, give stuff away to stay alive and this is what I gave away. So this is my face. Now.

[He knows, logically, that Magnus doesn't give a shit what he looks like, but that doesn't take away the anxiety fluttering in his chest.]

[At first he only cranes his neck to look, but once he realizes what Taako's trying to show him he sits up in acknowledgement. The difference is striking. And it's upsetting—not in the sense that Magnus will miss his looks, because he doesn't care, obvi. It's upsetting because he knows how Taako sees himself. He knows what that loss means to him.

He thinks maybe a speech on why beauty is superficial and unimportant and "you look fine the way you are!" is probably not gonna make Taako feel any better about it.

So, instead, he takes Taako's hand and gives it a light squeeze, and offers up his most sympathetic smile.]

[You are isn't helpful and it isn't relevant to the discussion at the moment, because Taako knows that what Magnus is saying is that this doesn't change anything for him and that's what he needed to hear.]

You better not be, cha boy's learned a few tricks in the past decade and we're only just getting started.

[He throws in a wink, just to add to the ridiculousness of the statement, but he hopes that Magnus knows that he appreciates what was said. It's just hard to acknowledge it sometimes.]

[Taako hums a laugh, idly tapping his fingers against Magnus's chest. There's still a lot they need to work through, but he feels like they've done enough for today, between the ichor and everything that came afterwards.]
