[This is two complicated spells that he's going to have to work together and he's not entirely sure if it will; he knows he can't use material from the shadowplane as a component, but that's not quite what this is.
With an exhale, Taako sits down on the floor of the balcony, setting the page of paper down by his crossed legs, with the key on top.
And then he starts working.
Moving his hands through the air in front of him, Taako pulls thin wisps of dark material out of the shadowplane, weaving the darkness into the same material that they key is made from, since that's the closest thing he's got, as well as anything he can pick up from what's in Clark's notes. This part alone is a ten minute process and Taako is quiet and focused the whole time, even more so than he was when they were fighting lizards in the tunnels.
This is harder than shooting a few spells at some creatures.
Those ten minutes pass, and there are assorted black cubes sitting around Taako as he looks up at Clark.]
[Taako isn't very spiritual, but he sends a quick little thought out towards the witch of the river, asking for any guidance she can give him before he gets back to work.
This time, as Taako moves his hands through the air, the cubes of material twist together almost as if they're liquid, his gestures guiding the way it forms. Slowly, it starts to look like the drawing Clark did.]
Lemme know if anything needs changing as I go.
[This is also going to take a little while, but Taako will listen to any input that Clark has until finally, another ten minutes later, it's done.
Taako sits back with a tired little sigh, regarding his handiwork.]
I have an idea for how to power it, but I dunno if that'll work.
[Despite the cursing (which is really just normal for Taako) is tone is gentle.]
This is science shit. I'm willing to admit that's not my strong point. But the umbra staff ate an arcane core, once. Maybe I can get it to cough up some usable energy.
[What he's planning isn't so much a spell as it is hoping that there's some inherent magic in the umbra staff that he can channel, which is... a different beast entirely.]
I don't think so, the staff's only ever hurt other people. It seems to like me.
[A final move of his hand through the air, and the console settles into shape, freeing Taako to get back up. He offers the key back to Clark, then grabs the umbra staff from where it was resting against the wall.
He's going to hold it at eye level so he have a chat with it, please don't judge him.]
Hey, listen, remember that time Hurley let you eat the arcane core and we still couldn't fucking save her? How about we don't screw this one up and you give ya boy something to work with.
[There is, shockingly, no response from the umbra staff, but when Taako points it towards the console, a very gentle version of the spell lightning bolt comes out. Energy crackles over the console briefly, before it almost seems to sink into it.
Taako looks at the staff, then back at Clark, and shrugs.]
[And then he steps inside, waving a hand over the door to magically lock it behind him.
Time to go read a book or something, although he's not really expecting Clark to stick around once the console disappears; Taako figures he might need some time alone.]
[ An hour is more time than he thought he'd have with Jor-El. Clark writes down everything he can even though he'll remember it fine. He pockets the key when the AI fades away.
The door unlocks, so he makes a beeline for Taako and embraces him in a bear hug.
Yeah, yeah, you better go tell your girlfriend all about this.
[It seems like the sort of thing that Clark would want to share with someone who'll Get It better than Taako can, since they're not from the same world.]

[He's caught between wanting to give Clark a little hope but not wanting to end up disappointing him.]
no subject
[ He can't ask for more than that.
Clark gives Taako some space to work. ]

Does this look right? The material?

Clark nods to Taako when addressed. ]
The texture is the same.

[ Taako said his spells can backfire but they'll hurt him if they do. Clark doesn't want that. ]

[thx sis]

[ He nods. ]
It can't hurt to try.
im playing fast & loose with magic here so i'll leave whether it works up to you!

Give it a shot?
I flipped a coin
It's still one form of energy. The key sinks all the way through when he pushes it in. A figure materialises next to the console. ]
Father?
honestly that's the most d&d thing you could've done
I can— I'll give you some privacy?
[He's already heading towards the door.]
This isn't permanent, but you should have at least an hour.
<3
I can't thank you enough.

[ He pulls back and beams. ]
I wonder if we can build that using what we have here.
[ He doesn't want to strain Taako. ]
no subject
They've got some pretty fancy shit, I bet they'd find a way to make it work. If not, you know, you've still got Taako.
[They might have to find a better powers source, he's not sure how cooperative the umbra staff will be in the future.]
no subject
[ Clark decides to go in for a second hug. He may be hovering off the floor in joy too.
Thanks, Taako. ]
no subject
Do not make me waste a spell slot on levitate just so I can keep up with you, my dude.

He's still smiling. ]
I'll see you, then.
