It's a reasonably quiet night, pleasantly dry with a slight breeze. Almost nice, for those that enjoy the hours after midnight long before dawn starts to creep on the horizon. Right until it isn't, when the air changes, and there's the scent of heat that promises smoke. In most places it starts with a flash of blue light that arcs from floor to floor as energy pulses through the building, and there's a crack of sound that follows. The power dies for a moment, and if you're one of the unlucky ones, the light that follows is a literal spark in the dark, burning to life in bright orange-red, yielding heat and smoke and trouble. The energy surge doesn't just hit the lights, but sparked flames that burst to life, and they catch quickly, spreading.

The worst of it starts on the ninth floor, where the smoke and the beginning of heat starts moments before the surge. The fire spreads faster there, people starting to startle awake and realize what's happening as the flames crackle. Eventually there's an announcement on the Network, both alerting people to what's happening and trying to organize both those that are willing to help and those that need it.

Some areas are untouched, while others are ravaged badly, reduced to ashes and crumbling ceilings, so watch your step. There's chaos, but through it there's people doing what they can to help each other, and the official fire services show up to help control the blaze. After that, it's just a matter of repairing the damage that's been done, rebuilding and putting things back together, seeing what's been lost and what was saved.

Even later, people start putting the pieces together, and there's the official investigation into what might have caused a fire like that in the first place.

"Yeah." Keith shrugged. "Either way, I should probably play it safe and get it looked at tomorrow anyway." He put the armor piece aside, and went to settle into his bed.

"I would say so. It doesn't hurt to get it checked especially since you were still limping."

Shiro moved the pieces of Keith's armor closer to where he had set his over where Shiro had put his. At least the different color kept them separated at least.

"Hopefully, we can get some sleep."

Keith sighed as he laid back and stared at the ceiling.

"Yeah... I hope so we can, too."

He wasn't sure if he would. He was tired, but stirred up, so calming down was going to take a bit. Not to mention any weird dreams and feeling jumpy about it happening again, even if they were in a different building now.

"I wonder how it started."

Shiro was pretty wound up as well. Not that he needed a lot to keep him from sleeping - never mind that he had been unable to sleep earlier - so he wasn't going to be able to sleep immediately. As it was, while Keith stared at the ceiling, Shiro seemed to be pacing, like he was looking for something in the room.

"I wonder that too. I was wake at the time. It sounded like it was only the floor below us, from the 9th floor. The power went out and there was a weird flash along the wall."

Now, would Keith notice that Shiro just implied he had been on Floor 10 at the time of the fire? At 2am? Also would Shiro find what he was looking for? Who knows.

Keith did catch that, actually... and he glanced over at Shiro.

"I saw the flash, too, but it seemed odd, right? And... the ninth floor?" First, who was on the ninth floor that could have done something, because that flash, which had come down to Keith's floor, hadn't looked normal to him. And second, and probably less importantly overall, but more interesting to Keith specifically, was actually indeed the fact that Shiro hadn't been on the fifteenth, but on the tenth.

"Were you visiting someone?"

"It could have been a different floor, but it sounded like it was directly below. Yeah, it looked weird. Not like a normal electrical fire."

How he knows what an electrical fire looks like is one question. And then the question of the day, why was Shiro on the tenth floor. He glanced over from his searching of the room to look over at Keith.

"I couldn't sleep. Hana texted me around 1 with the most random question so we were playing video games on the tenth floor."

Shiro... playing video games... with a girl... at 1am. Have fun with that Keith.

Actually, Shiro knowing what an electrical fire looked like wasn't all that surprising considering their training from the Garrison, but the tenth floor at two in the morning was definitely interesting. Keith raised his eyebrows at the response.

"Video games?"

[lionunchained]

"Yeah, video games. She beat me at the arcade during our auction date so I was trying again. Still didn't get much closer to that."

Yeah, she was a pro at video games and Shiro didn't stand a chance. Shiro again glanced around the room, again trying to figure out where something in the room would be.

"Right." Keith smirked a little. "You know she's a pro-gamer, ri-" He cut himself off. "What are you looking for?" That glancing around was starting to make Keith a little jumpy.

[lionunchained]

"What I'm looking for?" And now he realized he's freaking Keith out. Oops. "I was trying to find something to try and clean off the armor. Not the towels in the bathroom." Because one, they needed those and two, he didn't want to be that hotel guest.

"And yes, I do realize she's a pro-gamer. Just means its more of a challenge." He really doesn't care she's beating him every time. He just has to practice more.

Keith quirked an eyebrow at Shiro's hesitance to use the towels in the bathroom.

"We could just wait until morning and see if they have something at the front desk," he said. Please, Shiro... relax. But the comment about it being a challenge... Keith looked amused.

"Feeling competitive?"

"Yeah, I'll wait until tomorrow." Now that Keith had said something, he realized he was unintentionally making Keith nervous so he was going to stop looking now. So he went over and sat down on his bed, leaning back onto his arms.

He shrugged a little at the second comment. "At the moment, I'm just trying not to be defeated as quickly."

"How long have you two been doing this?"

Keith was curious. Was this A Thing now? Not that he wasn't happy for Shiro if it was, because that would be nice. Shiro needed something like that, and Keith would like to see him happy like that again. But, it was also kind of amusing to think about.

"Been playing video games? A couple of times. Going down to her floor to play video games? First time."

Completely skipping over that he went down to her floor at 1am to play video games. That was the interesting part of the story to other people but it wasn't something that was really crossing his mind.

Oddly enough, the 1 am thing didn't really bother Keith because he was getting used to Shiro's odd hours ever since he'd gotten back to Earth. But, the fact that he went to Hana was the part that had his attention.

"With Hana." Yes. Keith was smirking a little.

[lionunchained]

"Yes, with Hana." He saw that smirk there. Not that Keith was being subtle about it. "She was awake. I was awake. Of course she didn't know I was awake until she texted me asking how someone brushes their teeth in space."

Yes, that had seriously been her question.

"And you decided you had to go and demonstrate?"

Okay, so now Keith was really amused. Sorry, Shiro. This wasn't going to get easier.

Shiro gave Keith a weird look when first said that then-

"Wait, what? No. Why would you ask a question like that?"

However, there is a faint grin he can't seem to get rid of.

"I tried to explain it in a text and because I was awake she asked if I wanted to play video games with her."

[tempredmental]

"Right," Keith said with a nod. "So.. still a not-date. At some crazy time in the morning. Playing video games. With a cute girl. Who was texting to you late at night and asked you to come over."

SMIRK.

[lionunchained]

"No, not a date. It just so happened to work out that she asked me to come play video games with her. She wasn't expecting me to be awake."

Sure, Keith. Keep smirking at him...

[tempredmental]

"No, she wasn't expecting it, but, once she knew you were, she asked you over."

Smirk expanding to grin...

"She's also a pro-gamer. Gaming is like her thing."

[lionunchained]

"Yeah, she did invite me over." Not denying it. Completely not denying it.

He can also see that smirk and knows what he is implying.

"She is. It's a good challenge playing against her."

[tempredmental]

"She invited you to share something she enjoys with her," Keith pointed out.

[lionunchained]

"Well on the date auction outing, we did that as well before going to look at the stars."

Since stars were something Shiro liked. But he also realized he wasn't helping his case that this hadn't been a date considering they were both sharing things the other liked.

"You're not making this sound any less than I was thinking, you know," Keith pointed out. "She took you gaming and you took her stargazing?" He shook his head. "It sounds like your 'not-date' went pretty darn well."
