It's a reasonably quiet night, pleasantly dry with a slight breeze. Almost nice, for those that enjoy the hours after midnight long before dawn starts to creep on the horizon. Right until it isn't, when the air changes, and there's the scent of heat that promises smoke. In most places it starts with a flash of blue light that arcs from floor to floor as energy pulses through the building, and there's a crack of sound that follows. The power dies for a moment, and if you're one of the unlucky ones, the light that follows is a literal spark in the dark, burning to life in bright orange-red, yielding heat and smoke and trouble. The energy surge doesn't just hit the lights, but sparked flames that burst to life, and they catch quickly, spreading.

The worst of it starts on the ninth floor, where the smoke and the beginning of heat starts moments before the surge. The fire spreads faster there, people starting to startle awake and realize what's happening as the flames crackle. Eventually there's an announcement on the Network, both alerting people to what's happening and trying to organize both those that are willing to help and those that need it.

Some areas are untouched, while others are ravaged badly, reduced to ashes and crumbling ceilings, so watch your step. There's chaos, but through it there's people doing what they can to help each other, and the official fire services show up to help control the blaze. After that, it's just a matter of repairing the damage that's been done, rebuilding and putting things back together, seeing what's been lost and what was saved.

Even later, people start putting the pieces together, and there's the official investigation into what might have caused a fire like that in the first place.

"How long have you two been doing this?"

Keith was curious. Was this A Thing now? Not that he wasn't happy for Shiro if it was, because that would be nice. Shiro needed something like that, and Keith would like to see him happy like that again. But, it was also kind of amusing to think about.

"Been playing video games? A couple of times. Going down to her floor to play video games? First time."

Completely skipping over that he went down to her floor at 1am to play video games. That was the interesting part of the story to other people but it wasn't something that was really crossing his mind.

Oddly enough, the 1 am thing didn't really bother Keith because he was getting used to Shiro's odd hours ever since he'd gotten back to Earth. But, the fact that he went to Hana was the part that had his attention.

"With Hana." Yes. Keith was smirking a little.

"Yes, with Hana." He saw that smirk there. Not that Keith was being subtle about it. "She was awake. I was awake. Of course she didn't know I was awake until she texted me asking how someone brushes their teeth in space."

Yes, that had seriously been her question.

"And you decided you had to go and demonstrate?"

Okay, so now Keith was really amused. Sorry, Shiro. This wasn't going to get easier.

Shiro gave Keith a weird look when first said that then-

"Wait, what? No. Why would you ask a question like that?"

However, there is a faint grin he can't seem to get rid of.

"I tried to explain it in a text and because I was awake she asked if I wanted to play video games with her."

"Right," Keith said with a nod. "So.. still a not-date. At some crazy time in the morning. Playing video games. With a cute girl. Who was texting to you late at night and asked you to come over."

SMIRK.

[lionunchained]

"No, not a date. It just so happened to work out that she asked me to come play video games with her. She wasn't expecting me to be awake."

Sure, Keith. Keep smirking at him...

[tempredmental]

"No, she wasn't expecting it, but, once she knew you were, she asked you over."

Smirk expanding to grin...

"She's also a pro-gamer. Gaming is like her thing."

[lionunchained]

"Yeah, she did invite me over." Not denying it. Completely not denying it.

He can also see that smirk and knows what he is implying.

"She is. It's a good challenge playing against her."

[tempredmental]

"She invited you to share something she enjoys with her," Keith pointed out.

"Well on the date auction outing, we did that as well before going to look at the stars."

Since stars were something Shiro liked. But he also realized he wasn't helping his case that this hadn't been a date considering they were both sharing things the other liked.

[tempredmental]

"You're not making this sound any less than I was thinking, you know," Keith pointed out. "She took you gaming and you took her stargazing?" He shook his head. "It sounds like your 'not-date' went pretty darn well."

[lionunchained]

"I realize that I'm not, but it wasn't a date. Not really at least. It was an adventure." Since that's what Hana had called it. "And yes, our not-date went well."

[tempredmental]

"An 'adventure'?" That got Keith to chuckle a little. "Okay... If you say so." He'd leave it at that... for now.

He almost slid himself under the blankets, but then remembered something. "Hm..." He got up, still being careful of that left ankle, and headed into the bathroom.

"Probably not a bad idea to at least shake this thing out before I try to sleep in it, right?" he said as he closed the door. The undersuit of the Paladin armor still smelled like smoke, too, and Keith grimaced at it as he inspected it. Thankfully, if it had been damaged, whatever had happened to him while he was talking to Lola fixed it. He couldn't find anything wrong with it other than some lingering soot and that burning building smell.

Gross enough...

He was careful not to make a huge mess in the process, at least, before coming back out and climbing back into bed, this time under the blankets.

Shiro just gave Keith a smile at that. The topic was right at the edge of being pushed too far when Keith backed down. He watched as Keith started to slide under the covers before getting back up and heading to the bathroom.

"Yeah, probably not. Won't feel quite as weird in the morning."

Shiro didn't move, waiting on Keith to finish in the bathroom. Once he emerged, Shiro decided to do the same thing, heading to the bathroom as Keith got comfortable in his bed. Shiro came back out, heading over to his bed and sitting down on it.

"Getting tired now?"

When Shiro went into the bathroom, Keith couldn't help but settle deeper into the bed. He was starting to finally wind down a bit from the excitement of the evening now that the adrenaline was leaving his system, so to speak. And while he was still a bit jumpy from what actually happened, it was losing out to being tired. So, when Shiro came back out and asked, Keith had to nod.

"Yeah... I kind of am." He shrugged a little from under the blanket. "What about you?"

"Yeah I think I am too. Enough to try at least."

He had been up since at least one in the morning and then this fire where he had run around with Hana pulling people out of the building. Even for him, he was getting exhausted.

He walked back over to his bed, moved the blankets aside, and flopped down.

Keith nodded a bit, and closed his eyes with a small sigh. He was determined to at least try to sleep. That didn't mean it would actually happen, but he was going to try.
