what: Catch-all for the rest of the month

warnings: n/a, will edit as necessary. pls tell me what he'd see on your character, though!
Floor Six.
[ Cain's not one much to outright bug people in their home turf. Unfortunately for the people that live on the sixth floor of communal housing, it's also his home turf and so he's definitely made himself comfortable in the meanwhile. For quite some time now, he's had a table set up in the corner of the central room with various bits and bobs and inventions — more recently, they've begun to take more concentrated shapes such as a briefcase or something circular of the same size. There's a notebook laying on the disc and, for those who know technical jargon, it appears to be working out methodology for allowing the objects to go down and up in size without harming the structural integrity. It notes his own laptop as the first example which is probably why this isn't all typed down in the first place.
There's a small bear that accompanies Cain around the floor half the time, has been around since mid-June when he recovered from the Chalice's power, strange but perhaps not too strange for where they all are right now. It speaks in simple utterances but appears to enjoy all the floormates, especially if they feel like giving it food. Where is it the other half of the time??? Good question.
Aside from that, most days he cooks for himself and others if asked. His cooking skills are fantastic, definitely above bar even when he's just making something quick, and he never really minds sharing. Once a week, however, he seems to plan something more specific and even starts setting up the making of a cheesecake; when he puts that one in the freezer to set, he puts a note on saying it's off-limits. Weird!
Other than that he's probably got a lot of books around his bed and always seems to be doing... something even if it's quiet. Finding him truly at rest and unbusy is near to impossible. At least he still sleeps sometime, at the very reasonable hours of 4-9AM. ]
Out & About.
[ There's a lot of time spent out in the city. When he isn't working on his job, projects, magic lessons, physical training, or language lessons for friends, he's wandering. It's about 40/60 since not everything is done all at once or on the same days and he knows how to structure himself. There's still too much to see in the city and more often than not he wanders just to cement the buildings and businesses in his mind, keeping an eye out for anything new or places that may have shut down or changed due to people being relocated or going home.
There's some of that, but not as much as he'd hope or expect.
Still, he forges on and keeps an eye out. Things happen all the time and he'd rather not miss it. Or at least he'd rather be there in person because inevitably everything ends up on the internet. Sometimes he'll even have purpose, such as shopping for groceries or checking out various tech shops as if he can discern their secrets just from window-shopping. ]
Gramarye.
[ Cain's here once or twice a week for multiple reasons. Much as his world is about as magical as a brick (ghosts and Reapers aside), he's found an aptitude for it within himself and takes lessons from Victor von Doom and Lucretia. So, of course, he stops by and peruses their books where he can.
Most notably he's been helping Lucretia with her project to collate information on various worlds' magical influences and how casting works there, so sorry not sorry if you get stopped to answer a few questions or maybe they just need some clarification on a statement you already made? Or maybe he's just hogging the copier because Lucretia takes Many, Many Notes and he needs versions of them for himself too.
He's probably hogging the copier the most, tbh. ]
For Loki (616).
[ Although Cain's notably been avoiding showing up to Tony's lab directly, after sending that game-like testing application to Tony (okay, maybe it really is just a game pretending to be something useful), he stops by to see if it's helped on the progress of the actual things. Unannounced because it's more of a work location than a home location and he figures if Tony's general attitude and work ethic are to base anything off of, he's probably there, right? Right.
So he shows up, laptop-phone-ridiculous-thing in his pocket and a few things he's been working on in his bag. That it doesn't seem occupied at first glance is surprising, but he'll go ahead and enter anyway. Not like a security system is really going to do much more than alert people he's here. That's the whole point. ]
Hey... Tony?

It soothes his emotions and keeps his thoughts active, so he stays there when needs be. Tony hasn't kicked him out, so ... so far, so good. ]
Who are you?
[ What he doesn't appreciate is Friday's weird sense of AI humour in failing to let him know when they have visitors, so he has to stand there half-naked in undone jeans (he was brushing his teeth after a nap and luckily put on pants, the world can't judge him!!) staring at someone he only vaguely recognises off the network. ]
Um, Tony's out.
no subject
What he doesn't expect is for that AI to let him in knowing someone else is here. Or that someone else might be here at all. What is he supposed to do with that? Hard to say, because from what he's seen on the network and heard in passing he's pretty sure this is the other Loki? Maybe? There's physical resemblance and the voice sounds familiar but he won't make automatic assumptions anyway. ]
Jacob Kane. Just meant to talk to Tony about something I sent him earlier. I didn't expect him to have people over.
no subject
I was crashing here, I don't know when he'll be back. You had best wait for him, I'm not a messenger service.
[ He turns to head back the way he came, ducking out of sight briefly to grab a tshirt. It gets hauled on with a few quick tugs as he returns, pacing on bare feet. ]
You're the man Widowmaker saved, yes? When she broadcast to the network.
no subject
It was just one bullet, after all. ]
Yeah, that was me. My luck has always been the worst. And you are...?
no subject
[ Waving that aside, he meanders over to the bag that Cain has set down and peers at it, curiosity obvious as he stands closer than before. ]
What've you both been working on? Turret business? He's all about those turrets.

Since Brink is just barely too short to comfortably teleport around with him, Dodger is actually walking when he comes into the kitchen and sits at attention, his dog following along and laying down at his feet - they've both managed to make little to no noise, so Cain might not have noticed them until Dodger speaks.]
What's for dinner, Jake?
no subject
What, you don't want to skip straight to dessert? I guess we can do dinner proper tonight, too.
no subject
[Wow, is that a joke? An honest-to-god, non-bitter joke? This truly is a miracle. Dodger even lets out a little laugh before leaning back in his chair.]
Hey - is there a homemade version of burgers? Think that'd be any good?
no subject
Yeah, generally you put it out on a grill, though. For authenticity. I might be able to fry something up here if that's what you're really looking for.

Out & About.
[A voice echoes through the air, followed shortly by a small ninja. Yuffie had been running across the rooftops when she'd decided to jump down to the street. What she isn't expecting is for someone to be standing in her landing area. Her frame twists in mid-air as she narrowly misses crashing into Cain and lands behind him instead.
She hits the ground at a roll before coming to stand on her feet.]
Made it!
[Yuffie flashes Cain a grin. She's short and dressed suspiciously like a ninja. She'd just come off of work at the perimeter guard so there is a green jacket tucked into her belt. She doesn't like wearing uniforms so she just keeps it with her to prove that she's working.]
Hi.
no subject
Hi. Nice landing.
no subject
Thanks! Hey, do you know what street we're on? I'm looking for that food place with the really big bowls of soup.
[She circles her thumb and pointer finger together to indicate what size bowl she's talking about. Yuffie is a little fuzzy on names.]

I'm not sure... Maybe? I haven't had a chance to check out every restaurant in the city, though.

It was this weird habit that helped him start to pay attention to the other dark haired man, and the weird bear creature. Which, he would usually split whatever he was eatting with it, when he thought no one was looking and the bear was near by. Today was one of the days he had been sleeping, it was around 3pm when he woke and stumbled to the shower, he had been asleep four hours straight, he was kind of proud of himself for that.
His boots had remained by the bed, and the messenger bag he kept his weapons in these days was locked in the trunk while he showered. Coming out he made his way into the kitchen stopping while he rubbed a towel through his wet messy hair, dressed in just his sleep pants. He stopped to look over whatever the other guy was making now. He was curious, but he went out of his way to try and not be noticed. To not ask about the contraptions even when he was curious. It reminded him of Roy in a way that made him a little sad. ]
no subject
Right now he was in the middle of trying to make a few pieces fit where it seemed like they shouldn't but he assumed they should based on his backwards engineering of his own laptop. It's a weird, complicated but fun practice project and he looks up when he notices someone in his peripheral vision. One thing he's good at by now is paying attention to things from the corner of his eye without letting on at all, what with how peoples' time of death are always plastered across their necks and it's pretty hard to look at that head-on without questions.
So he glances up and raises a brow when he sees he's being watched. ]
What's up?
no subject
Maybe it was where they guy kinda reminded him of Dick in looks, or maybe it was the tinkering but today he couldn't ignore it and his eyes moved over the pieces thinking there is no way they could fit... but Roy made arrows radioactive so, anything was possible. The numbers floating near him gave him about fifteen more years.
He shifted into the nearest chair and slipped the towel off his head and around his neck as he sat back.]
Just watching, curious what your making. [ He spoke like it was perfectly reasonable, which he felt it was sharing a living space and all.]
no subject
Nothing specific, I'm more trying to test a theory here. Some of the tech floating around is way beyond what I'm used to so here I am, trying to backwards engineer with a laptop and a Home Depot toolbox to my name.
The surprising thing is how it's not a total failure so far.

Not that her luck has been great so far, but it's better than nothing as she pushes past the doors and begins her trek to find someone who might be knowledgable or can point her in the direction of information. She's in the hallway, calling towards one of the staff members walking by.]
Excuse me. Do you know where I could find information about emerging, uh, abilities? Maybe related to gods, somehow?
no subject
You know, that's a good question. I just have a teacher or two for myself... Hi, Chloe. [ His smile widens to something more genuine. ] Something going on?
no subject
Ah. Sorry, Jacob. Didn't recognize you at first. I didn't realize you were learning from here. [At his question, though, she shifts from foot to foot, looking unsure.] 'Something', yeah. Not really sure what to make of it yet, though, so that's why I'm here.
no subject
Yep, learning from here for sure. They're good at it, my teachers are, anyway. You could probably find someone to help you. That someone just wouldn't be me.

I'd like for you to tell me if you've made any progress since our last meeting.
[This was the easy part. Ask first and then put him through his paces.]
no subject
Well... there's definitely a trick or two I've been picking up on the side.
[ That said, he curls a hand into the air and casts prestidigitation. He's graduated from just sparks to sparks with noise, glittering and shining on the air before fading. ]
no subject
You've been studying with another teacher, I presume. I'd be offended if I didn't know how much you wanted to learn magic.
[Thankfully, he's not insulted or angry about it. If he wasn't busy with his own projects, he would be seeking out other types of his magic for his own study as well. For now, he'll just stay amused at Cain's little spark presentation.]
no subject
[ That said, he makes another, slight falling motion with his hand and an ethereal one appears in the air between them. It gives a slight wave before disappearing, and Cain puts his own hands into his pockets. ]
Mostly just the party tricks. The big ones from this kind of school... you only have enough energy for one or two of them a day. Not as much opportunity to practice.
[ That's right, Cain regularly blows all two of his Warlock spell slots! How extravagant! ]
I think I've got the hang of actually materializing your sort, too.
