july catch-all (open)!
who: Steve Rogers and You. (OTA).
what: July catch-all.
when: All throughout July!
where: All over the place.
warnings: Mentions of sadness and feeling displaced. Will edit this as needed.
A. THE GREAT OUTDOORS.
[ There were a lot of reasons Steve preferred to be outdoors than inside but one of the main ones happened to be because he breathed easier. He felt less closed in and trapped, something that always brought back too many fouler memories. So, he can often be found hiking around and exploring everything possible. He can also be found camping and maybe even cloud watching. The latter reminding him of the simpler times of his childhood.
Plenty of nostalgia. ]
B. NEVER BACK DOWN.
[ With the gym being practically a second home, Steve can be found there often enough. Punching and kicking at the sandbags, running on the treadmills and sparring with anyone who feels up to the task. Maybe even a few secret yoga classes. But hey flexibility is important and hot yoga is something else. ]
C. NETWORK.
[ Given his past few years in the more modern era Steve knew of technology but generally preferred to not really use it, unless it had to do with art. He loved the drawing tablets and how he could make things appear 3D with the printer thing Tony set up for him before things went quickly downhill.
Always such troubling thoughts. Pushing it aside, he grabbed for the current device in his possession and with only a slight look of distaste, he fired it up to connect with the network. He needed to make an introduction and not isolate himself as much as he did the last time he wound up in some unknown place. ]
Is this -- okay, yes, it appears on and working. Hey there, I'm Steve Rogers and -- new here. [ Not at all awkward in the least bit. ] If anyone needs help with anything, I'd be happy to lend a hand. I can lift really heavy things. [ Seriously? ]
I'm looking for a couple of running partners. I can warn that I run really early but I'm gladly spring for breakfast afterwards.
D. WILDCARD.
[ catch steve exploring around and feel free to throw whatever scenarios my way. if anyone wants to discuss or wants a starter, catch me at
snowflakecrowns.
a few possibilities - grocery shopping, watching films, early morning jogs, so not looking for danger, getting a drink. and so on. ]

Nearly a lifetimes worth and at other moments it felt like nothing at all. Almost, a blink of an eye and then nothing but darkness dripping with splatters of water. It oozed throughout his life and kept him continuously gasping for air. Eventually, it drove him outdoors, filling the wide open spaces with all the things he never dwelt with. The space gave him room to ignore everything other than the sound of his breathing in and out, in and out.
Looking over when someone approached, Steve gave a tiny smile. ]
When I was younger, my ma used to make up stories in the clouds. We'd see the different shapes and create something together. I was sick a lot as a kid and it always made me feel better. [ He pointed out a few clouds, motioning for her to come closer and sit. ] What do you see? Try to picture something beyond just the cloud.

She catches his arm move in the corner of her gaze. Her gaze drops and she steps closer to take a seat at his side.
Kate props her arms on her knees before lifting her gaze back to the clouds.] That one looks a little like a bunny. [She points to a particularly fluffy cumulus cloud that's drifting slowly across the blue sky.]
I've never done this before. [She admits with a small smile.] My mom was sick a lot when I was a kid.

his eyes drifted along to the cloud she spotted and a wider smile took over his face. he shifted his hand towards one of the clouds nearby. ] And that kinda looks like a sword. Our bunny is taking on cloud monsters and winning, all before dinner.
[ quieting down when she mentioned her mom, he reached out to squeeze her arm for a moment before his hand dropped. ]
It's always hard when parents get sick. Like it shouldn't happen. We see them as greater than everyone else.
That happened to my mom too. Lost her when I was barely out of high school.

She looks at his hand and then further to where he is pointing. Her head tilts slightly, attempting to see the cloud from the same angle.] All it needs is a shield. [Kate says with an affectionate tone.]
It's a very brave little bunny.
[Light green eyes look over at Steve before choosing to look down at her hands instead.] Yeah. My mom was amazing. I was in middle school when she got sick. Dad... didn't want us to see.
[Only now she knows why.]
I'm sorry. I shouldn't bring you down like this. Not when there is a bunny fighting for our sake.
no subject
if only he really believed he could be more.
looking over when she began to speak, he listened intently, reaching out a hand to squeeze her arm lightly. ]
Don't be sorry at all, Kate. Sometimes it helps to talk about it. You're not bringing me or the bunny down. [ He gave a slow nod of his head. ] Tell me a favorite memory about her.
no subject
I don’t think anything can get the bunny down. [She smiles a little wider, her voice becoming lighter.] I haven’t really talked about it. [Kate has a lot of things she hasn’t talked about.] I’m not sad. I’ll always miss her but she’s in heaven now. So even if she isn’t with me. I know she’s doing well.
[Her father on the other hand…. Kate isn’t so sure. She hopes that they’re together. That they reconciled. But she didn’t know if there was forgiveness for what he’d done.]
May favorite memory. [Kate feels her smile growing.] There are so many. There was this one time in church. It was one of the few times mom stood up and spoke. My father was the preacher but that day she’d wanted to offer a bit of herself. She told the congregation that she hadn’t had it all figured out and that pa and the lord had been able to help her. [Part way through the story Kate’s southern accent began to tweak the end of her words.] It’s silly but I felt like I really saw her that day. Not just as my mom but the amazing person that she was.

They barely knew each other but he still cared. Steve tended to always care about being there for others, whether he knew them well or not mattered very little in the end.
Looking up at the bunny briefly, he turned his attention back to her when she spoke again. Pretty religious then given her memory and the whole 'preacher father'. Must have been a lot of restrictions but then again other religions weren't as intensive as Catholicism tended to be. ]
It's not silly. You started seeing her as more than just a mother. I had those moments with my ma. She was the true definition of a hero. I always try to think with things I do if she'd be proud of my choice or not.
no subject
'There is no love left.' That's what she'd told Richie, just before she died, and before she woke up here.]
That's a good way to see it. What's your favorite memory with your mom?
[Kate's arms wrap around her knees as she turns the brunt of her attention over to Steve. The clouds are nice but she's more curious about him.]
no subject
Favorite memory? How could he pick only one? But a soft smile rested on his face as he thought of a few. ]
Holidays were always a big deal around my house, especially Christmas. My ma made sure we had a nice dinner even if that was a struggle to make happen and something to open under the tree. We always had this sad looking tree but we loved it more because of that. We made our own decorations. Different ones each year so they'd be new. Christmas was like the start of a new beginning. It took us awhile but I think that's why we liked it so much.
no subject
Ain't that what holidays are about? Being close to the people that you love. [She doesn't think it needs nice things in order to be special. What makes it special are the people you get to share it with and the memories that you form.] I wonder if they have something like that here?
[There is a bit of a southern drawl to her voice though it's very light compared to most who are from Texas.]

When you're lucky they are. [ He offered a wistful smile. ] I'm not sure what they really celebrate here. I know there was a festival when I first arrived. It was really - loud. There should be some information about this place somewhere.
no subject
If there ain't then were should celebrate it anyway. Decorate the city in Christmas lights and see if we can find pine trees. Maybe the main area of the communal housing so that everyone can see. [She looks down with a bashful smile.] Might not be possible but I'd like to see it.
no subject
We can make it possible. I think it sounds like a great idea, Kate. We can bring Christmas joy to everyone when it gets to be that time of year. [ Maybe they could figure out a few ways to involve everyone. ] There seems to be a lot of trees around here. Shouldn't be hard to find a pine Christmas tree looking one.
no subject
It'd be nice. Since they do like celebrating so much.
[Kate smiles at Steve, a little happy that he likes her idea.]
