A. THE GREAT OUTDOORS.

[ There were a lot of reasons Steve preferred to be outdoors than inside but one of the main ones happened to be because he breathed easier. He felt less closed in and trapped, something that always brought back too many fouler memories. So, he can often be found hiking around and exploring everything possible. He can also be found camping and maybe even cloud watching. The latter reminding him of the simpler times of his childhood.

Plenty of nostalgia. ]

B. NEVER BACK DOWN.

[ With the gym being practically a second home, Steve can be found there often enough. Punching and kicking at the sandbags, running on the treadmills and sparring with anyone who feels up to the task. Maybe even a few secret yoga classes. But hey flexibility is important and hot yoga is something else. ]

C. NETWORK.

[ Given his past few years in the more modern era Steve knew of technology but generally preferred to not really use it, unless it had to do with art. He loved the drawing tablets and how he could make things appear 3D with the printer thing Tony set up for him before things went quickly downhill.

Always such troubling thoughts. Pushing it aside, he grabbed for the current device in his possession and with only a slight look of distaste, he fired it up to connect with the network. He needed to make an introduction and not isolate himself as much as he did the last time he wound up in some unknown place. ]

Is this -- okay, yes, it appears on and working. Hey there, I'm Steve Rogers and -- new here. [ Not at all awkward in the least bit. ] If anyone needs help with anything, I'd be happy to lend a hand. I can lift really heavy things. [ Seriously? ]

I'm looking for a couple of running partners. I can warn that I run really early but I'm gladly spring for breakfast afterwards.

[Link hadn't been here very long, but it bothered him that he still hadn't gotten used to these new surroundings. Like Steve, he also preferred to be outside to the point that he was starting to not return to the commons at night to sleep.

Thanks to his exploring, Link was at least starting to learn the layout of the city and managed to find some nice spots like parks and gardens. He was still going out fully armed with his sword and shield, not wanting to be caught in a bad situation without them even though he knew it was unlikely as long as he stayed within the gate. Link was actually looking at the flora, wondering which ones could be used and which one couldn't when he came across a rather tall man laying down in the grass. Curious, Link approached.]

What are you doing?

[Kate is used to her environment changing and her perception of the world fluctuating. This place, the portal and her more recent realizations have all tested her perception and once again changed it. For better or worse, the sweet innocent girl she used to be is gone. In place of that young girl is someone wiser and stronger.

There were uncertainties there too. Things that she didn’t know and shadows that lingered against her skin and thoughts as if to haunt her movements. She tries her best to ignore it but some days she can’t. It’s those days that she finds herself wandering, placing one foot in front of the other to see where she might go.

She pauses when she spots Steve looking up at the clouds. She recognizes him, as much as she recognizes those she’s seen on Friendr. He’s another person, someone she doesn’t really know, who has found themselves here. Kate hesitates a moment before stepping closer.]

What are you looking at?

[Her chin tilts up towards the sky but she only sees clouds.]

[It seems that this place brought in new people pretty regularly. The mention of running partners does catch her attention -- while she's been going to the gym often enough, her routine's been a bit disrupted ever since arriving in Riverview. Starting back up on her early morning jogs with a partner may be what she needs to help motivate her.

And maybe clear her head, too, which has been another issue altogether.]

If you're still looking for a running partner, I'd be interested. How early and often were you thinking?

Whereabouts are you looking to run?

[ He likes to run in the mornings, but he has concerns regarding his job and energy to make sure that he is able to attend. ]

What time are you thinking? I run every morning already. No need to spring for breakfast.

[Steve had said he wanted to go exploring, so they were going exploring. Not that Tony didn't also want to get a better sense of this weird new place, but if left to himself, he likely would have just done a couple of aerial sweeps and called it a day. Still would, probably, just for his own peace of mind.

But Steve had specifically asked him for this, so Tony was going. They might have been still feeling out the issues between them, but Tony was at least going to put in the effort. Besides, maybe having something else to focus on would make things less awkward. Couldn't hurt, anyway.

He'd brought along one of his gauntlets in deference to any possible creepy-crawlies they might run into, but wearing the full armor just felt...wrong. Especially given the number of very large elephants they hadn't quite gotten around to addressing yet. Tony still makes a point of waving with his unarmored hand as he catches sight of a particular tall blond.]

Captain. Where to?

[ Tilting his gaze from the sky, he looked at the kid for a moment. A kid decked out in armor and a sword. Not very subtle with his level of unease with their new surroundings. Not that Steve could blame him when he still felt out of sorts but he tended to feel that way on a daily basis. Things never made sense for him and he doubted they ever would. Freezing and unfreezing tended to do that to a person.

Waving his hand towards the sky, he tipped his head back again. ]

Looking at the clouds. Something I used to do when I was a kid with my ma. She used to make up stories and it helped distract me when I was sick. [ He pointed at one cloud that looked kind of like a dragon. ] See, the cloud dragon? It might look like something different to you.

[ Things never stayed the same, no matter how much someone wanted them to and sometimes memories clouded over into something else. At times, looking back seemed sweeter in a way the memory might not have actually been. It's easier to put rose colored glasses on and believe things were once perfect even if in the moment they were anything but, especially when the present felt like a disaster. The whole what I wouldn't give to go back to a time things were simpler. But things were never so clear cut and not shaded in at certain spots here and there. Memories were just a fickle thing and Steve had plenty of his own.

Nearly a lifetimes worth and at other moments it felt like nothing at all. Almost, a blink of an eye and then nothing but darkness dripping with splatters of water. It oozed throughout his life and kept him continuously gasping for air. Eventually, it drove him outdoors, filling the wide open spaces with all the things he never dwelt with. The space gave him room to ignore everything other than the sound of his breathing in and out, in and out.

Looking over when someone approached, Steve gave a tiny smile. ]

When I was younger, my ma used to make up stories in the clouds. We'd see the different shapes and create something together. I was sick a lot as a kid and it always made me feel better. [ He pointed out a few clouds, motioning for her to come closer and sit. ] What do you see? Try to picture something beyond just the cloud.

[ When it came to running, Steve enjoyed it for plenty of reasons but having the chance to clear his mind ranked at the top of the list. There were always so many thoughts going through his mind and things to unravel. The constant repetition of running made them channel a little easier. ]

I tend to like to go early but I can make an exception. Everyday I think.

[ Routines were vital to Steve and kept him from spiraling into darker things. He kept up the military-like focus and determination, despite all the years since he had been in the army. ]

I wanted to try and find some nice trails? Do you know of any? Something scenic would be nice.

[ The earlier the better in Steve's eyes but he knew very few shared his sentiment on the matter. He couldn't understand why. ]

What time do you usually run in the morning?

No, that's fine. Exceptions aren't necessary. I asked because I've got work in the mornings, so the earlier the better.

[It's not like she's military, but she's not opposed to waking up before dawn to get her workout in. If he's game, then all the better.]

[ The unknown worried Steve most of all but he wouldn't let the irrational side win out and slip him into the paranoia he once experienced so strongly. There were plenty of things out of his control influence. A hard lesson for a soldier but one he needed to take to heart. Besides, there were others around to help if something happened and he trusted all of them. Even Tony, which the man probably didn't believe. He noticed all the looks he sent his way and they made the unease worse. It prickled underneath his skin as his stomach tied into the knots he learned to form as a kid. Since he couldn't always go outdoors back then he needed things to fill the time AND made him feel useful. Knowing how to tie knots did just that.

His ma never let him feel badly about his lot in life for too long. Oh, how he missed her terribly.

Standing with his arms folded against his chest, Steve stared out towards the fencing to the 'great behind', where other things existed. Terrible things, apparently, but Steve didn't really know what to believe anymore. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed movement and turning on his heel brought Tony into his line of vision. A smile filled his face as he returned the wave.

They were still finding their way with one another but he had hope it would be okay. It had to be okay. Tony probably also failed to realize how important he was to him. ]

Thought we could just explore around this side of the fence. See what's around, try to get a feel for the layout of the place. Maybe later we can venture out there.

Gonna need better gear for that. [His tone was neutral as he drew even with with other man. It was true, but...loaded. That was one of the things they were going to have to talk about, Tony was sure. Just. Not quite yet.

He shrugged rather than dwell on it.]

But sounds good. Lead on.

[ With a quick nod of his head, he started off in the direction of the inhabited city first to see what it had to offer and some of the general layout they had to work with. The abandoned city interested him more but Tony would probably 'need better gear' for that too. Never mind the being with a super soldier aspect. ]

Have you seen much of anything yet? I haven't really ventured out. It's felt - [ overwhelming, intense - ] The having another me around is something to get used to.

That might work perfectly. I tend to like to go at 5 or 6 AM. I usually get groaned at for that.

[ the routine of it always made him feel calmer and more centered, though, and running with someone kept the loneliness away. ]

There's a few spots by the inner fence, if you haven't seen it yet. Not a lot of risk as long as you stick to the path.

Would you like to try there? I've been wanting to see more of this place.

Try having three of you. [He shot Steve a wry smile as moved up to his side and kept pace with him.]

I've seen a bit. Not everything, obviously. Won't hurt to get a better sense of the whole place.

[Tony paused for a second and glanced over out of the corners of his eyes.] I should really get a good look at the Abandoned City one of these days, too. Since I'm supposed to be helping reclaim it or something. You could come, if you wanted.

[If this didn't all go to shit.]

[ there were more than a few shifts and changes their lives took on but the multi-universe thing really messed with his mind. to think there were other versions of those he knew, all with different experiences. they weren't exactly the same but the basis still remained despite it all. ]

The different universe thing - I've met one of the other Tony's. He was - [ he shook his head, deciding to not really say more. the other Tony came across as softer, without all the sharper jagged edges but perhaps he had them in other ways. ] I haven't really interacted with him enough. There are multiple Loki's and it's as horrifying as it sounds.

[ his eyes lingered over to Tony as they walked together. it felt less strained than their earlier interactions, at least, a little more comfortable. ] Maybe I'll buy you an ice cream cone.

[ more hope bloomed in his chest at the invite. at least, tony maybe wanted to be near him. ] Yeah, sounds good. I want to check that out. Do you know why it was abandoned? This place has some weird vibes.

Don't know much about it all, just that there are probably monsters in it. Thus the need to go look. [He shrugged slightly.] And thus the possible need for backup.

[If absolutely nothing else, he could still trust Steve to have his back. The rest...they were working on. Hopefully.

The thought of those other universes, though, makes Tony go quiet for a moment. Not that he doesn't know about them all, he brought it up, but. The other Steve who was so determinedly comfortable with him. The other Barnes trying to put him at ease.

Tony sighs and glances over at Steve out of the corners of his eyes. ]

So we need to talk. [No more dancing around it.]

[Kate doesn't take her eye off the clouds when he spoke. His words paints a lovely picture in her mind and reminds her a bit of her own mother. Kate's mother died when she was young. Recently, she discovered that her father had a hand in it.

She catches his arm move in the corner of her gaze. Her gaze drops and she steps closer to take a seat at his side.

Kate props her arms on her knees before lifting her gaze back to the clouds.] That one looks a little like a bunny. [She points to a particularly fluffy cumulus cloud that's drifting slowly across the blue sky.]

I've never done this before. [She admits with a small smile.] My mom was sick a lot when I was a kid.

Not by me. It's really the only time that works.

[Or at night, after work. But she's got a daughter at home -- or did. She's not here now, of course, but that habit is still there.]

Did you have anyone else that's interested so far?

I try to by 7.

[ But he works as a DJ so he can have some late nights. It's not always possible. ]

Well, I do by 7.

Definitely. I've got some time now if you'd care to give it a test run. [ There's a smile in his voice.. ]
