who: Shadowhunter cast!
what: Max wakes up in the hospital and his family comes to get him, catch all for anything else other canonmates want to do!
when: After they've all arrived
where: Hospital, other places TBD
warnings: SPOILERS for the book series and probably spoilers for the Shadowhunters TV show too just to be on the safe side, also mentions of violence

This was not where Max had been expecting to wake up. He hadn't been surprised to wake up in a hospital, but after the video he'd been shown, an alternate universe was definitely a surprise. It wouldn't be too much to wrap his head around, given time, since he'd read plenty of books with things like that in them and his family fought demons. He might have even been geeking out about it if he hadn't been so worried about his family. The last few things he remembered were demons invading Alicante, Alec running off to go find Aline, and Izzy going to get her stele while leaving him with Sebastian... Sebastian who had attacked him with a hammer. He remembered hearing someone coming up behind him, turning and seeing Sebastian swinging it at him, then everything going black. The next thing he'd known, he was waking up here.

He'd asked about his family after he'd been shown the video and while they hadn't known anything about most of them, they did mention an Alec Lightwood that had arrived at the same time he did and asked if they were related since they had the same last name. Once Max confirmed that was indeed his brother, the person had said they would send someone to go find Alec and tell him Max was here. While he'd been waiting, they'd asked him some questions and had him do some bioscan. When they'd asked about any special abilities he had that would be biologically-based, he'd been reluctant to answer at first but had eventually given in, holding onto his stele tightly so they wouldn't take it away.

They hadn't and Max was now holding it and the toy soldier he'd been gripping when Sebastian had attacked him tightly in his hands, waiting in a chair in the room he'd woken up in while looking out the window. His glasses were okay but he'd been given a new pair of clothes to wear, having been told his old ones had been destroyed. He might have also enjoyed the view more if he still wasn't worrying about his family. He hoped Alec would be able to tell him more about what had happened.

"You have no idea how glad I am that you're here." The familiarity of family is definitely a plus for Izzy. She's not sure how she would have handled being here by herself; she's always been independent...not the sort to seek out help or burden others, but the idea of being stuck without the rest of her family--especially Alec and now Magnus (who she's grown used to having around much more)--isn't a very positive idea.

They're here, though.

Hugging her brother-in-law, Izzy nods, glad to hear that everyone is fine. "I'm pretty good at taking care of myself, so nobody needed to worry much about me." She winks at the warlock before giving an affectionate squeeze back on his bicep this time and looking around before back at the high warlock of Brooklyn. "No sign of our monster friends here yet, right? And have you see anybody else from town?" She can't quite hold back the questions, curiosity bubbling.

After the announcement that they got before she wound up here she can't quite help it; she's finding both some...suspicion and uncertainty about all of this.

Indulging her in the hug, arms a little tight around her because of his relief, he chuckles and nods at the fact that Izzy can take care of herself. "A strong woman doesn't need to be worried about, but that doesn't stop us from being concerned." Especially with how things had been going since arriving in the new city, and after leaving the previous town, it was comforting to see for himself that she was alright.

"No monsters, and so far the only people I recognize are you and Alec," he says, though it makes him wonder if anyone else might have come through the portal at the news of all the false belonging they'd been given while in Pines. It was definitely enough to make Magnus feel displaced, so it stood to reason that others would as well.

"Fair enough. Can't fault anyone for caring." Izzy knows that her brothers can take care of themselves too, but it's never stopped her from worrying about their wellbeing. Nor has it kept her from worrying about Magnus' wellbeing either. Pulling back, Izzy studies her brother-in-law for a moment. Physically she can't see anything that sets off any alarm, which is good. Het managed to get through tangoing with the monsters unscathed, but Izzy can't help but feel concern about the interim.

She was late to get here, in comparison, after all.

While there's a bit of relief that the monsters hadn't followed them through the portal it still leaves Izzy with a lot of questions. Is there a reason that, as of so far, it seems to have only been the few members of their family? And not only that...is there a reason that somehow Max and Jace here now? "So, if that's anything to go by it looks like we're starting new all over again." Though, technically, the first time...it would seem that they started in the middle, considering the false memories that had been planted. That thought alone causes Izzy to shake her head, physically, as if warding off delving into questions that might cause a headache...that she doesn't exactly have the answers to at the moment fully.

Tucking her hair behind her ears, Izzy isn't sure what compels her, but after studying Magnus a moment she blurts out the question, unapologetically and...with her particular brand of confidence. "Have I missed anything major or did I manage my usual impeccable timing?

It's still something of a new concept for Magnus to worry about people not because it comes with the title of High Warlock. Though Magnus has always felt a duty to care for his people, there was always a sense of self-preservation included as well. He wouldn't go out of the way to help a warlock who was too stupid to refuse his generous offers of protections because he'd known the personal risk was too great. But a lot had changed since then, and opening his heart to Alec had also opened it to his family and friends to the point that Magnus was willing to fight to protect his small but growing family.

Nodding, a little distracted by all the goings-on of the hospital around them, he pulls her towards the bank of seats lined up outside of Max's room to offer her a place to sit. "I've always like starting at the beginning, though it feels more like we've been thrust into the middle rather than given a false sense of living through the start." All of which was confusing to think about, let alone say.

He blinks at her, mildly surprised by the sudden question, and nearly shakes his head before pausing. "Has anyone told you about Max?"

Izzy moves with ease, taking a seat along with Magnus, but keeping her focus on her brother-in-law. There's definitely more than the bare minimum that she's already been told, she's already gathered that much, but the question is whether or not it's Max-related or whether it's Alec-related...or something outside of the Lightwood male family members. It could just be how new all of this is, being thrown into a brand new situation. Either way, there's something on Magnus' mind.

She'd have to be blind not to make that observation, but it's not just an observation stemming from Magnus alone.

"Tell me about it." Izzy murmurs in agreement. The surprise that registers on Magnus' face throws her for all of a moment. Putting that surprise to the side, Iz focuses on answering the question. She'd rather be focused on talking it out, figuring things out, and not on the surprise. So, Izzy shakes her head, hair moving with the motion. "Just the bare minimum, so not exactly. How'd he get hurt? Was it before or ater he stepped through the portal?"

Lately, it seems like there's always something on Magnus' mind, thanks to the Lightwoods and seemingly constant change of address. But he's a centuries-old warlock, and as much as he hates the thought of it, he'd be able to survive even without Alec; it's reassuring to know that he doesn't have to experience that, though, or being apart from the other Lightwood siblings. But still, having people that one cares about also opens one up to the possibility of heartache, and Izzy is observant enough to know that Magnus is bothered about something.

"Before," he explains, going over the explanation he'd been given. "Head trauma, but he's going to make a full recovery. That isn't the part that worries me." The statement isn't entirely true, since he'd felt concern for Max's condition, but there's more to it that will most likely have a lasting effect on the older Lightwoods. Hesitating a moment, trying to decide if this really was the best time to be bringing it up, he pushes on in a hushed voice. "He said that someone named Sebastian attacked him in Idris. Alec has corroborated the story, says I should remember this, but I have no recollection of being in Idris with him."

Pushing aside her concern for Magnus and the fact that there's something in the air (not literally, but there is something going on), Izzy focuses on what her brother-in-law can fill her in on about Max. He is the reason that they're all here. And Izzy wants to be completely appraised of the situation. The fact that Max got his injury before he arrival, though, does cause Izzy to furrow her brows. It's not impossible for training accidents to happen, but knowing there's more...well...Izzy can't help but try and brace herself, nodding for Magnus to continue, the warlock having her full attention.

What could make her baby brother being injured even more concerning? She's not entirely sure, honestly. And despite her brain going through possibilities, she's not coming up with anything automatically. And she knows that it isn't likely she's going to just be able to guess. So, when Magnus seems to get past his hesitation, well, she's glad. For all of a moment, anyway.

"Sebastian?" Wrinkling her nose in confusion, Izzy can't quite connect the name to a face. She doesn't know any Sebastians. "Who the hell is Sebastian and why would he attack Max...and when and why were you in Idris?" The red flags are definitely up in Izzy's mind. She can't help but go back to what was said in Wayward Pines when the truth came out. Different worlds. Surely, though, that's not what's going on here. It has to be false memories...on someone's part, but does that mean it's her and Magnus...or that it's Alec...because Max was never in Wayward Pines. "I don't remember any of this, none of it sounds familiar to me either. And I'd remember word of my little brother being attacked."

Izzy frowns, looking toward the hospital room that Max is in at the moment. Magnus really wasn't kidding when he said that this was worrisome. "Max wasn't in Wayward Pines....so we can assume that it's not a false memory." Izzy speaks quietly, trying to work through this, but not quite liking where that's taking her. Looking at Magnus, she can't help the confusion on her face because if Alec shares he memory with Max it either means she and Magnus are missing some memories, or something all together much more complicated.
