The kitchen is laid out with whatever (reasonable) refreshments one can imagine available within the quarantine, snacks and beverages to accommodate varying tastes spread across the kitchen island and counter tops. Enough seating for 20 (10 from the kitchen, 10 from the entertainment area) had been arranged around Chloe's display, however she chose to set it up - since it had been put on her as the tech savvy one between them to do the presentation.

New arrivals, whether they cared for the research and exploration party or not would easily find themselves surrounded by books, notebooks and other papers with various notations - all regarding Riverview, the history of the quarantine, rumors surrounding it and comparisons to other worlds that similarly pull people through portals. These are out in the open and free to browse, should one be so inclined.


[Anyone with relation to floor six is welcome to attend - resident, friend of resident, etc. If you're unsure whether or not your character would get an invitation please contact the player you have CR with. Should your character be the type to show up uninvited, feel free to crash. Pretty much anyone Ed has CR with would be notified, and he'll be making a public post on the network before this event actually takes place IC. [Great Goddess Hylia how had Link not thought of sugar roasted nuts?! They smelled divine.]

Yeah. I'm Link. It's nice to meet you.

[He took his sword, shield and bow from his back and leaned them against the wall, making sure they were out of the way. It wouldn't do to crowd the kitchen with anything unnecessary.]

Just point and tell me what you need me to do.

[ Welcome to the world of party snacks and Cain still going over the top. He watches as Link unequips himself with some serious curiosity and even briefly steps over to eye those pieces before just shaking his head and pointing Link toward the cupboard. ]

Grab some of the pretzels, would you, Link? You have much cooking experience?

[Link watched Cain scrutinize over his equipment, but since he made no comment, Link left it alone. He had the all important job of preparing food and it required his attention.

He hesitated at Cain's request.]

Yeah, just not with all of this stuff. [He gestured to indicate the entire kitchen.] What are pretzels?

Twisted-up bread snacks. They're brown with salt on them, look like knots.

[ Okay, so this will be interesting if he doesn't know what pretzels are. It isn't anything to judge by but he'll make sure to describe things better as he goes. ]

[It took a moment for Link to locate them...in the clearly labeled package that said "Pretzels"... Good job, Champion.

He grabbed the bag and tossed it to Cain.]

Here ya go.

[He wondered what that bag was made of. It wasn't the first time he had encountered this shiny, smooth material. It seemed to be almost everywhere. He didn't deem it important enough to ask about though.]

What next?

[ He catches it, opens it and pours half out into a bowl before setting it aside. Messes with the stovetop in the meanwhile. ]

There's some chocolate in the cabinet over there. Guess I'm in a sweets mood today.

[Great, something else Link had never heard of before. Well, if the pretzel things were labeled, this chocolate must be too.

He opened the cabinet Cain indicated and found it pretty quickly thanks to the bright lettering.]

There's a lot of new stuff here to me. Could you find all this in your world?

Mhmm. And more. Most necessities and luxuries are in stock around all cities and towns at supermarkets so even things that aren't local are easy to get.

[ Okay, so Cain's assuming Link's level of civilization based on the equipment he put down and the clothes he's wearing. If he's told otherwise he'll adjust, but it seems like a good place to start. ]

[Link wasn't sure what a 'supermarket' was, but he would make sure to keep an eye out for one when he went out to explore. If it was what it sounded like, then Link was certainly interested in checking it out.]

I'll have to go check it out.

[Link looked at the table and back to the sugared walnuts cooling. He wondered how many people were coming.]

What next, chef?

[ If not enough people, then the floor has awesome leftovers to snack on for a while. Cain's not too worried about overcooking. ]

Now we let the water boil first so I can melt the chocolate. How new are you?

[Link stood behind Cain, but tried to leave him enough room so he wouldn't be overbearing.]

I arrived during that big festival. How about you? Have you been here long?

And why do you need to boil water to melt this stuff?

[aeturnus]

[ Cain looks over to see Link, then motions him to a spot next to him instead of behind. Probably a better view from there, anyway. ]

About two months now. That was my third festival. Apparently it's a monthly happening since the portal does that around those times anyway.

Essentially we're going to use the steam from the boiling water to heat and melt the chocolate without burning anything or getting it too wet.

[Link obliges and stands next to Cain, still ready to move if he was asked.]

I see. [Link wasn't sure of what to think of the portal and what he was told about it upon his arrival. A part of him wants to believe that it was as unpredictable as it sounds, but if it had some kind of rhythm to it...he needed to find more information about it before he decided anything.]

That's clever. [He certainly never would have thought of it.] What are we doing after we melt it?
