[ i - for your au needs ]

[ A Loki that fell to Earth is a Loki that still enjoying living. Earth gave him opportunities to step away from Thor's shadow and be his own person. True, he wasn't much of a prince or a god as he drifts among mere mortals without a blink of an eye, but it is preferable to the treatment of the Nine Realms. When he awoke, changed by the chalice, Loki was smart enough not to panic even as the doubts crept in. Instead, he devoted himself to the work. He weaved in and out of the Gramayre Institute, the Communal Housing and wanders around Riverview. His manner is polite if not a little distant. His clothes range towards more casual shirts and slacks, and his hair is much shorter.

You might also spot him sitting near the fountain, casting small illusions for the group of children nearby, of green dragons and golden heroes or at the market, eyeing their selection of jeweled daggers. ]

[ ii - can you feel the love tonight? ]

[ Loki can deflect magic and bullets with ease. His physical prowess is nothing to scoff at, despite his slighter frame. So when the repellent drifts over, Loki was certainly not prepared to fight the very air itself. By the time he realized what had happened, it was too late. He had inhaled it too sharply and felt his limbs loosen. The tension that's always hung over him like a heavy aura has all but dissipated and Loki is all twinkling smiles and calm demeanor. You might have bumped into him accidentally as he stands there and he turns, contrite. ]

My apologies.

[He catches it with one hand and Loki will notice he immediately starts searching for a way to take it apart. He wants to know how this works inside and out.]

Very little. I've seen people fire them, but I've never actually handled one.

[Man, if Bucky knew what he was up to right now, he'd likely be furious and alarmed. Mostly the latter, judging by how their relationship thus far had gone. He didn't approve of anything that would give Ivar an edge in killing.]
ragnarsson: ([17.9] Unbelievable)

[Ivar's quick to pick up on things. He'd adapted to the technology of this place pretty fast. Weapons, well, he's been around those since he was born. Just because they'd changed in a thousand years didn't mean he was completely befuddled. Slowly, and carefully, he takes the gun apart, following the illusion. He gets one or two parts wrong and has to correct himself, but eventually, the gun is lying in pieces.

He inspects the magazine of bullets carefully.]

Amazing, that something so small could create so much damage.

[Ivar listens as he slowly puts the gun back together, though the way he handles it would probably make any true master of the weapon cringe. He finally slides the pin back into place and shoves the magazine in. Once that's done, he tries to fire it.

Nothing happens.

He examines the weapon again, flips the safety off, then points it at one of the dummies. He fires it and the shot goes wild. More than that, it's the sound that gets a reaction out of him.]

Gaaahh!

[They don't sound nearly as bad when it's someone else firing them, but up close and personal with this one, it startles Ivar.]

[Ivar scowls at the god, grouchy at being caught in a moment of temporary weakness.]

Not one more word out of you, Lie-smith.

[He lines up another shot with a new dummy, both hands on the gun this time. He's got a good eye and aims straight for the head. While he's expecting the sound this time, he's going to have to work on the sensation of the recoil. The gun pushes back harder than he's expecting.]

[Ivar does as he's told, keeping a firm grip on the gun. It's really not so bad as the tension of a bowstring pulling against his arms. He'd struggled long and hard to be able to fire a bow from a sitting position. This time, he settles for a less ambitious shot, and goes for the torso. It's a clean hit.]

Clearly, you don't need much skill to use this sort of weapon.

I like it.

[He shoots off the last three bullets in quick succession into another dummy, all in the chest area. They're lined up in a neat row, Ivar's eye for accuracy coming in handy.]

Do all guns operate similarly?

[If so, he knows exactly what he's buying the next time he has a free day off from the Perimeter Guard.]

Seems like as men got better weapons at killing, they required less skill to use them.

[If the basics could be picked up in a single session, Ivar wondered how good those who were proficient with the weapon were. He'd have to ask one of the Buckys the next time he saw them.]
ragnarsson: ([18.7] Well that's just great)

Thank you for teaching me. [Gratitude from the teenage Viking was rare enough as it is.]

Certain...people here seem to think letting me learn is dangerous.

[Not that he could entirely blame Bucky for being reluctant to teach him. Sensing weapons in Ivar's hands would be bad news was just common sense. But it had still stung to be refused.]

[And this is why Ivar is getting along so well with the gods of this city.]

Considering that I probably would have shot my foot off, this was a good idea.

[Not that they did a whole lot to begin with, but he'd grown rather fond of having all ten toes present.]
