[ clark has found a house for his family. kara and jon have bedrooms upstairs, on the ground floor there's a kitchen, a living/dining room and lois' bedroom/study. there's a basement that will eventually feature a pool table or similar but for now is pretty empty.

supers, feel free to write your own starters for moving shenanigans, domestic things, getting used to living together, having guests over, etc. ]

i. closed to clark

[ the house is lovely. it's not the kind of place lois had imagined herself living in, less metropolitan and urban and more quaint, rural in a charming kind of way. lois is doing a lot of things she hadn't imagined herself doing or experiencing these days, from having a son (even if, especially if he's from another world), living in a quaint house, being in another universe altogether.

it's lovely, but the furnishing is still a bit sparse and lois is about to suggest that she could go buy at least a desk for herself when she finds clark in her study, building what looks like one. ] You didn't develop mind-reading powers while I wasn't looking, did you? [ she asks, only mostly joking. ]

ii. open to anyone who knows a super (or lois)

[ clark knows more people than lois does, or if he doesn't know more people, he's at least more sociable, warmer than lois. she doesn't mind that; she's learned that in order to be taken seriously and get the answers she wants, she has to play hardball sometimes. it's not something she'll ever regret.

it does mean, however, that her contribution to having guests over will, at least initially, be just to offer them a drink. she's made sure there's scotch and various other things she likes in the kitchen. for the rest, she considers it clark's domain. ]

iii. closed to taako and illya

[ lois still considers taako odd, and she thinks that clark's russian friend is hiding something, but after a night of poker (and a few glasses of scotch), she really doesn't mind either of those things so much. in fact, she hasn't minded taako's oddness in a while now. she even bought umbrellas to put into his drink because he seems to like colors.

they've put the poker cards away for now and relocated to the couch in the living room. clark's off putting jon to bed and lois has toed off the heels she'd still been wearing and curled her legs underneath her body. ]

If this were a college party, this is the part where we'd start playing drinking games. [ she remarks. ]

[signifies]

[ They picked this room for her bedroom and study, giving Jon and Kara the space upstairs. It overlooks the backyard, and it has thicker walls to keep the noise down.

He thought hard about building a desk for her instead of buying one. Carpentry wouldn't take him long to pick him, and he could ask Flint if he had any problems.

Clark compromises by getting one secondhand. It had arrived at the house disassembled. So far, he's been unnoticed in putting it together.

He should have known he couldn't fool her. ]

Maybe. [ He waves to her very playfully. ] What do you think?

[contacts]

It's not impossible. [ she pretends to consider it seriously, though she's pretty sure the answer is no. it gives her a moment just to look at him, too, broad-shouldered and building a desk for her. ] But in this case, I think it's more likely you just saw a need and decided to fill it.

[ a beat, before she adds: ] I could have gotten a desk myself, too, you know. [ it's a thank you more than a rebuke. ]

[signifies]

I thought I'd surprise you. [ He grins. ] Are you going to supervise?

[contacts]

Do I need to? [ but she's already leaning against the doorframe, still looking. ] I think I might. [ or lend a helping hand, if superman needs one. ]

[signifies]

You could.

[ He's not going to mind. Clark even gestures her to a chair. ]

[contacts]

[ she won't mind watching him work, either. or spending time with him in general. so she settles in the chair after a moment, smiling a little. ]

You're going to make me feel lazy.

[signifies]

You're welcome to get the other side of the table.

[ The instructions are neatly spread out on the floor in front of Clark. He can turn them towards her.

He can do this with super-speed, but that defeats the purpose. ]

[ lois shrugs, getting up again. ] You still get to do all the heavy lifting. [ she's perfectly capable of following instructions and putting together furniture; she's done it before. but never with a man she was moving in with. ]

[signifies]

[ There's a first time for everything. This is a little soon. The two of them have doubled in as many months. Clark can deal with communal housing; everyone there are relative strangers and they stay out of each other's way.

This is family, no matter how confusing he finds alternate universes. He's glad to have it, and have someone to share it with. ]

You can tell me where you'd like it afterwards.

[ there's a first time for everything, but while lois thinks that this is moving pretty fast, she doesn't think it's too fast. it feels good, sitting on the floor with clark and putting up furniture, smiling at him when handing him a screw or asking him to hold something steady so she can fasten it. ]

I think in front of the window.

[ at some point, she mentions: ] I didn't really picture Superman to be as domestic as you are. [ it's not a complaint. ]

[The cocktail umbrella's have, naturally, made their way into his hair, little spots of color decorating the thick braid that's running down his back. He's in the process of lazily sprawling on the couch, but when Lois mentions drinking games he perks up like a hound that's smelt blood.]

Shit, yes. [He even claps his hands together in glee, because this is going to go way better than poker did, for him (he's terrible at it and too intimidated by Lois to cheat).] Should we start with a classic? Never Have I Ever? Truth or Dare?

[Illya isn’t sure how he feels about the tiny umbrellas for the drinks, he doesn’t usually go for cutesy things. But they seem to fit Taako’s hair well and he does usually go for fashion, so he lets it go.]

You two do not know what you’re up against if you try to beat a Russian man at drinking games. [He takes a long sip of his scotch- even though he definitely prefers vodka. He makes a mental note to bring some, next time he visits.]

But I would not mind playing Never Have I Ever, if you want to. [Better option for Illya than Truth or Dare, for sure.]

I wasn't serious. [ lois protests, but honestly? she should have expected at least taako to jump at the suggestion and if she really didn't want to go down this road, she could have just kept her mouth shut. probably should have.

she glances at illya. ] But now I guess we have to. Just to test ourselves.

[spellslots]

Hey, elves could be great at alcohol, you don't know shit.

[They aren't, they're about the same as humans, but nobody needs to know that just like Taako doesn't understand the cultural context of why a Russian would be very good at drinking games.

But the most important part is they've both agreed to it.]

Shots or sips?

[One is probably safer than the other.]

They could be. [His tone very clearly says ‘but not better than a Russian man’. It’ll probably be safer for Taako to just assume that Illya thinks Russian men are the best at everything and go from there.]

Sips are probably safer. [Which, this isn’t Illya saying they shouldn’t do shots. Just stating a fact because there is a small child in the house.]

If they are, I'm at a distinct disadvantage.

[ lois doesn't sound too worried about it. but she also doesn't have an actual death wish and alcohol poisoning is not a fun way to go, so she adds: ] Sips it is.

[Taako winks at Lois, as if giving a (not very) subtle hint that he's full of shit. Apparently either not realising or not caring that Illya can see it from where he is.

And he's just gonna dive straight in.]

Never have I ever been to grade school.

[Starting easy and clean, but he's fairly confident he's got this one. Illya and Lois both seem like they've had a decent amount of formal education.]

[Illya doesn’t hesitate to take a sip, though now he’s curious about the kind of education Taako’s world has. Is there something like an elf school? And Taako did say there were different kinds of sentient beings. But that’s probably a conversation for another time.

He glances at Lois.]

I think Taako is going to have an advantage over us. A lot of things normal to us are going to be new to him.
