[OPEN/MINGLE] i'm worse at what i do best

[ Jyushimatsu kept things rather simple for his party. When he enthusiastically welcomes you to his house, dressing in his plain blue pyjama, you notice the dim light coming from various candles set all around the living room. The floor is covered up with a large futon, blankets, and few pillows, hopefully enough for the guests. He had moved the furniture around so there would be a wide space in the middle of the room, where a TV is already lit and ready for use. All you need to do is dress up in your PJ and the party will begin!

First, there will be movies! Whatever the guests brought can be picked for watching, whether it's got horror flicks or romantic tropes or explosive action. There's a wide choice of non-alcoholic drinks and junk food if you love stuffing yourself with them while time goes on.

Second, there are games! Jyushimatsu found a game console and a few games to play, some of which are the exact sort of party games that would break friendships and cause an all-out war. If you're a sore loser, you better not try to cause damage to the house or the host will kick you out! On the less digital side, there are board games stacked up to the side. Things like UNO, or Risk. More reasons to break friendships, supposedly.

Third but not least important, the guests can all sit in a circle and either tell each other random/weird/scary stories or play Truth Or Dare, Would You Rather, or anything else that comes to mind as the night air flows and eventually you'll start feeling sleepy and about to conk out.

Whichever direction this party will take, Jyushimatsu hopes you all have as much fun as possible! ]

[ It had been a rough few days for Jyushimatsu. First his workplace had become a camp for refugees, ensuring no work for at least a week or two, and then both Osomatsu and Ichimatsu had disappeared from Riverview without so much as saying goodbye. Just like Karamatsu did before them. To say he's upset about it is an understatement.

But he didn't want to let his sadness turn into a burden for the people he'd met and became friends with in the Quarantine. To fill the void in his chest, Jyushimatsu set up this little slumber party with whoever wanted to take part in it, without much of a fancy display. He only needs that bit of company for one night without thinking about how lonely he is now, in this big house, with everything that reminded him of how his brothers used to live here. The greenhouse on the roof is safely locked to prevent anyone from climbing up there. He will at least protect Ichimatsu's sacred place at all costs. ]

i; PARTY HARD i guess

[ As the party host, you can find him anywhere! Carrying non-alcoholic drinks and junk food, giving indications as to where the toilet is, sitting along with everyone to watch movies, play games, or tell each other random stories, maybe even huddling with someone as the floor is covered up with blankets and pillows. If there are cuddlepiles he will join them, and if someone wants to cuddle with him alone he won't reject the offer at all - anyone can get close to him as long as he gets a tiny bit of affection.

He's there for everyone, and although he doesn't seem energetic as his usual, he's trying his damn best to enjoy himself. ]

ii; after the party

[ When all lights are out and people are giving into slumber one by one, Jyushimatsu can be still found wide awake, perching by a window and looking up to the sky. If you approach him, you'll notice that his shoulders are shaking and he's sniffling, furiously wiping his eyes. When he realizes he's being watched, Jyushimatsu will instantly panic and flail his hands, averting your gaze and withdrawing like a thief that's being caught red-handed. ]

Sorry! Did I wake you up? Something just got in my eye, don't worry, I'll join you guys soon!

[Laura had shown up entirely uninvited — as is her want, because she's a little weirdo like that, and she came fully prepared for sleepover stuff. She wanders over and just stares at him until he notices her, to which she looks particularly stoic for a moment. And then, between his sniffling:]

Watch this.

[She bows her head, skillfully pretending to pick her nose, and holds up what appears to be a humongous booger —

And then...!

She eats it.]

[ He has no idea who this young girl is, but he did mention he'd invite friends and strangers alike so she was very welcome to stay. Though now he feels all the more embarrassed about getting caught crying, since he's a grown-ass man and all.

But then she does something that would appear beyond gross if he didn't recognize the slimy candy that had been passed around during the party.

And yet, an snort involuntarily comes out of him. ]

Oh my god... [ He mutters, before breaking into ugly giggling. ] That's so gross!

[Excellent. The tables have turned, it's the goofy man being goofed on by the less goofy girl. As he's in the middle of ugly giggling, she points at him.]

You have something on your nose.

[To which she pretends to pick a candy booger off his face.

And then eat it.

Her pokerface is impeccable.]

[ This girl is a fucking comedian. It's her pokerface that does him in.

He's going to die at the rate his laughter goes, raising in pitch with the risk of waking everyone up. The snot running down his nose is real, but he takes the trick for what it is and covers his mouth with a sleeve of his PJ, trying to muffle himself. ]

Hahaha! Stop that! Gross! Super gross! I'm calling the anti-gross police!

[ To think he was sobbing a minute ago and now it'd be a miracle if he doesn't choke himself laughing, good job. ]

[Excellente.

She reaches into her pocket as the peals of laughter lower just a smidge, offering a handkerchief.]

You should not eat with your nose full, it's impolite.

[ Another snort, and he has to cover his nose because now it's his turn to be gross. He accepts the handkerchief and quickly blows his nose, unable to stop giggling all the while. The tears are still gushing out but at least they're not made from sadness. ]

I wasn't eating! Look who's talking!

[ His accusation is full of mirth; he's thankful to this girl for making him forget his troubles for a bit. ]

[She likes that she's able to do something like this, at least. It hadn't been so long ago that she had been only useful for hurting people — so it's good. To be a friend, and do nice things.]

I've not been to many, but you are supposed to have fun at a party, yes?

[ He blows his nose some more, then crumples the handkerchief while trying to wipe his eyes with his sleeve. ]

I had so much fun, but then things got silent because people went to sleep and I got reminded of some stuff—

[ Ah, maybe he's oversharing. He shakes his head. ]

But I'm fine! My emotions slipped a bit!

[She nods.]

It's good for emotions to slip. It means you're a normal functioning human being, no?

[She often reminds herself that it's good, when she feels like that.

Better than being a cold, unfeeling killing machine as intended.]

Mhm... I guess it's true! I still don't wanna worry my friends, though. I'd feel bad if it happened.

[ It's not like his brothers died, right? People disappear from Riverview on the regular and he should get used to it. ]

[A shrug, so casually.]

People say that all the time. But they also don't apply the same to others.

You would be sad, if a friend hid things so it wouldn't worry you. Wouldn't you?

[Laura's certainly much more open about how she feels than most here, as long as she figures out how to explain her feelings.]

I'd figure out why they didn't say anything but hmmm... yeah, I guess I'd be sad.

[ He heaves a liberating sigh after that many tears. ]

It's just that people are so used to seeing me happy that I don't wanna spook them out of nowhere with sad feelings, you know?

Nobody wants you to be happy all the time if you are not.

[She shrugs, looking out toward the cityscape.]

But then again, I am not used to people being happy. Not until I came here.

... I may not be very knowledgeable in how people work.

Ehhh... people are hard to understand, I get that.

[ He rummages through the pile of food and drinks that have survived the party and picks up a soda can. ]

Most of the time I've got no reason to be happy... I just am! So when I find one reason why I can't be happy, it's... jarring, alright. [ He pops the can open. ] I'm even spooking myself being all introspective like this, haha! It's not good when I think too much.

[That's a funny thought... Laura's had too much time in captivity to not think too much. Most of the scientists thought she might have been stupid, with how little she talked or how uninvolved she was. If she wasn't the quiet one in the line, she was the rabid, violent child in training. She thought a lot, though. It was hard not to.]

I can't imagine that. Being happy that often.

My mom said that I was literally born happy! I was the happiest baby in the neighborhood! At some point in grade school I was a crybaby and normie, but that didn't stick for some reason. [ He takes a sip, smiling weakly. ]

It's uncomfortable when I'm sad. I want it to go away.

[She looks a little alarmed. Like he might as well have said he huffs paint for fun daily.]

... I don’t remember feeling anything like that, when I was little.

[Sure, she’s still little, but you know what she means.]

What makes someone so happy? Is it genetic?

[ He turns to her, cradling the can into his sleeves. ]

I don't think so? My parents are pretty normal! None of my brothers are as happy as me, either. Maybe it happened because I'm Jyushimatsu. [ It's the only answer he's got for everything at all. ]

[She looks surprised by that.]

Some people are just born with how they'll be?

[Probably an odd question — but it comes from a child shaped by her childhood so much, it's hard to say what kind of girl she could have been. She wonders if it would have been for the better.]

Must be it! Sometimes I do wonder why I was picked as the happy one. If I really am happy or someone else decided it for me.

[ ... Maybe it's a bit too heavy of a thing to tell a teenage girl?? ]

Sorry, sorry! My brain's wandering! That's why I don't like being alone, I tend to think way too hard.

It is okay to let your brain wander, I think. I do it all the time.

I wonder why I had to be picked to be how I am.

[Laura glances at him.]

But I guess it is more important to figure out how to use what you're born as in a good way.

Not a lot of good things happen when I think too much. That's why I try so hard to not take myself seriously...

[ He sips a large amount of soda and then sighs largely. ]

I already have figured it out. I guess. I wanna share my happiness with others if I see them sad and gloomy! Other than that... [ Hmmm. ] I don't know...

[She hums and nods, apparently in agreement; she's not very good at sharing happiness, but...

She can at least learn. After a moment, she offers her hand.]

I'm Laura.

[ He perks up and readily goes for the handshake, bowing his head. ]
