[ Slip on your swimsuit, grab your towel, put on a pair of sunglasses, and come on over— it's time for a pool party! Maybe you were invited by Jim, Victor or Lucy— they do have a bunch of friends, after all. Well, mostly Jim. What's that? You don't know any of them? Well, that's no problem! They've made sure to tell their friends they can invite whoever they want. Friends of friends, distant acquaintances, coworkers, what have you. All are welcome! There's a sweet as hell pool in their backyard now, a new addition to the house, so it's kind of like a debut. There's music playing, a wide range of styles that go from dance music to classical rock, and there are chairs, a covered seating area, and a few extra towels near the pathway to the pool just in case you forgot to bring your own. There are a bunch of floats both in the water and along the edge of the pool for everyone to help themselves to as they wish, and in addition to that there are a number of fun pool party games you can take up— water balloon fighting, balls available for some playful water polo, and whatever other game you can come up with. Feeling hungry or thirsty? Not a problem! There are several drinks and cocktails (anything alcoholic safely kept away from kids), and a bunch of snacks and sweets. To add to that, there's a nice barbecue set up near the grassy patch next to the pool, and a supply of ribs, burgers, sausages and corn is made available throughout the party. (Oh, and there's also a tiny porg and a water-loving dog.) So what are you waiting for? Come on in and have a blast! ] |

[She goes and sits on the couch, tucking her legs below her and taking a sip of her drink. There's an amused question on her face when she asks:]
Richard didn't mention me?
[She knows that the two of them were doing something, even if Alex didn't know what.]

He takes a seat next to Alex, leaning back against the seat and making himself comfortable while taking a sip from his glass. ]
Well, sure. But 'mention' is probably it. He's not very— prone to sharing. [ He also has to bite back the urge to tell Alex what they'd been doing together, but he promised he wouldn't, so! ] He said you were unusual. That was about it.

[There's more than a little trace of a laugh in what she said, because if there's anyone at all who knows what a tough nut Richard Strand with his three phDs including one in being a secretive bastard is, it's well... secretive. And the amusement of being called unusual is very present on Alex's face.]
And of course he would say that. Well, I guess I am in some ways. But I'm a reporter, I'm from Canada, and I'm kinda an open book, really.

[ Well— not exactly 'hang out' when Richard was teaching him how to dance, but Jim's still counting it as that. ]
I think most people can be unusual in some way. You just gotta get to know them. [ Jim nods at her brief summary about herself. The reporter bit he did know about. ] And I'm from Iowa— originally anyway, and I'm a Starfleet Captain. Which... really doesn't mean much, here. [ Though it still means something to him. ]
Did you do any specific kind of reporter work, or was it more of a freelance deal?
