The woods don't seem incredibly sinister anymore, what with the Amusement Park of the Old City being nearly fully open next to it now. As night falls however, the faint, tinny noise of rides and games becomes almost eerie in the planet-light of the Capital World. The mission is simple, Jyn wants to find out if the copse of interconnected trees really are sentient and if it would be safe to move them to a different spot so the encroaching Amusement Park won't cause them any damage. It's supposed to be easy. Sure. |

He doesn't get caught in yet another vine, at least. He does trip up over a bunch of dried up roots and leaves, though, only to find himself tumbling straight into a pit of quicksand. Quickdirt. Whatever. He tries to pull one leg out, only to stick his other foot in, and slowly he starts to sink deeper into the pool of dirt swallowing him whole.
His voice will be heard in the immediate vicinity the moment he realizes he's stuck: ] Hey! Need a little help here! Help!
[ But it's not the only encounter he'll have, obviously. A good portion of the flora out here seems intent on killing them, so even though he doesn't have the unfortunate luck of being caught in another trap, it's likely the rest of the team will. He'll come to the aid of anyone who needs it, whether that is cutting vines with his magical dagger, or dragging someone unconscious to safety, then trying his best to get them to wake up again. It may or may not include splashing some water on your face. ]

[because he is always prepared, cassian does have a rope, which he's already tugging out of his bag just in case.] Don't struggle in it.
[he's moving urgently anyway, taking in the edge of the pit and being careful where he steps. he can just imagine jyn laughing at both of them while singlehandedly yanking them free.]
[after making sure a nearby tree branch is sturdy enough, he throws the rope over it, ties the other end to the trunk, then swings the loose end.] Hold that, to keep yourself from sinking in deeper.

[ Not his first rodeo hereβ so to say. He does relax a little when he sees Cassian. He might be waist-deep in quicksand dirt, but he knows and trusts Cassian to do anything he can to get him out of here.
He nods, taking the end of the rope and curling it around his hand and arm several times, until it's pulled taut. He gives it a testing tug just to make sure it's holding for now. ] Thanks. Uh... how can I help?
[ Does he just stay still? He will, really, if that'll help. It's just that feeling the dirt move around his legs and feet is incredibly harrowing. ]

I am going to try to wedge you out. [he just has to be stronger than the dirt, which is not a phrase he thought he'd ever think. he ties the end of his rope to a different tree in case his grip slips, the rope won't sink down with jim.]
[he doesn't know if this works like sand, if just pulling the rope will pull jim out with it, but that's what trying is for! cassian starts to tug on it, wishing he had jyn's bonus upper body strength.]
Is it pulling you?
no subject
A littleβ not pulling, so much as pressing. [ He doesn't feel himself sinking any deeper, at least. ] Do you want me to try moving one foot?
no subject
Just the rope pulling you. I need the rope to be stronger than the pull of the dirt. [he tugs more, trying to wedge jim out higher. he stopped sinking, from the look of it. progress.] Yes, just one foot. Tilt it sideways first, to test which way the pressure from the dirt comes from as you do it. If we can walk you to the edge first, it will be easier to pull you out.

He nods at Cassian's instruction wordlessly. Having something to do is actually better than just standing there, sinking deeper into the dirt while thinking back to other times he nearly got buried alive. Slowly, and still holding onto the rope, he tilts his foot and leg sideways, then tries to move it forward in a testing step. ]
From the left, and back. Eight o'clock, give or take. [ Unsure if Cassian's familiar with that code, Jim points to where he can feel the pressure coming from. ]
