Jim couldn't complain about time with Victor, these days. Since moving in together, they had gotten many opportunities to enjoy each other's company, either with Lucy or just the two of them. Still, it felt nice doing something special every once in a while. It had been the reason why Jim had decided to learn how to dance, so he could surprise Victor with a special date, but that'd have to wait until he'd had a decent number of lessons.

But until then, there were still plenty of ideas for fun, romantic dates. The idea for this one had sort of been built on a random text exchange, and Victor eventually took over the preparations, but Jim didn't mind that at all. Lucy had gone to the sitter's house directly after school, so they'd have the house all to themselves until the following day, and Jim had left work early so he could get ready for their date.

Not that he needed to try so hard, granted, but like he'd told Victor once, he still wanted to. He'd picked out a nice but still comfortable outfit— a pair of dark jeans, a fun plaid shirt, and a simple pullover in case it got chilly later in the night. Overall, an adequate outfit for the theme of the date, he thought.

Checking himself in the mirror one last time (he'd gone through a whole routine, so he looked perfectly groomed and smelled really nice too), he waited until he got a text from Victor, then he grabbed his wallet and phone and headed out the door. Victor had mentioned renting a car, so he looked around for one parked outside, possibly still running.

Jim smiled, pleased at the response he got from Victor. His arms squeezed a little tighter, and he nuzzled a little against his neck.

“My boo,” he said with a soft chuckle, kissing Victor’s neck. “I do love you, Victor. And I love it when you use those words on me too.”

He couldn't help snickering a little, even as he tilted his head to the side in an offer for more nuzzles. Yes, even with the initial confusion he got when James called him "boo", Victor loved hearing it. Actually, he loved it because of that confusion. It made the word more special and unique for them.

This was nice: leaning into James, feeling the grass under his bare feet. "This is going to sound a little weird," Victor warned, "but this feels like a dancing moment."

He always liked Victor’s reaction when he called him that. Even if he hadn’t intended it as a joke at first, it was kinda cute that Victor was amused by it every single time. He smiled against Victor’s skin, letting out a soft chuckle of his own.

“Really?” He pulled back just so he could look at Victor, an eyebrow raised. “We’re totally naked and outdoors, and you wanna dance?”

[jolting]

"Told you it would sound weird," Victor reminded him. "You're welcome to grab our boxers if you want." He shrugged, nuzzling against James again. "Just seems like a celebration should have some dancing."

Jim smiled at Victor, ducking in closer to him. “You’re such a romantic.” Stealing a brief kiss, he did quick work of wiping himself clean, then grabbed his boxers from the roof of the car to put them on. For the sake of comfort, nothing else.

He hummed in answer, reaching to get his own boxers back on. He also grabbed his music player and shuffled through until he found a slower song. He picked one and took James by the hand, pulling him a little farther onto the grass so they would have room.

Victor was going to guide James in the one dance they both knew very well: a slow circular sway. He was absolutely a romantic and this sort of dancing lent itself to that perfectly.

He smiled a bit as Victor led him farther away from the car, stepping closer to the doctor and wrapping an arm around his neck, his free hand holding Victor’s own. It was a different sort of dance than the one Jim planned to learn for Victor, but it was intimate and romantic just the same.

He pressed close, swaying to the music with his head resting on Victor’s shoulder.

Victor let out a sigh of contentment, fingers lightly brushing up and down the back of James's neck. Sometimes it was hard to believe he hadn't even been with James for six months. Everything about being with the other man felt right.

Even if the song skipped on to something a little more upbeat, Victor would keep their swaying slow to hold onto the moment a while longer.

Jim felt pretty much the same way. At times he surprised himself when he realized he’d only known the doctor for a little over three months. Granted, they hadn’t taken very long to get serious, but still. Something about them just... clicked right away. It felt right.

“You know... I didn’t even dance that much, before I met you. Especially like this.” He could remember a couple of occasions with Bones, but that was pretty much it.

He was a little surprised to hear that. But then, James was hopelessly romantic at heart, so maybe he hadn't found someone to dance with before now. That line of thought made Victor smile.

"Dancing was sort of a social obligation for me," Victor answered. "Honestly, I was a little bored whenever I had to go. And in Storybrooke, they thought I was some lecherous creep. The only date I go was during the curse, and I'm not sure that counts."

He sighed, turning his head to nuzzle into James's hair. "It was worth it for this."

He always liked hearing stories about Victor’s life, whether in the land without color or Storybrooke. He could easily imagine the doctor all dressed up and practically forced to dance, socialize and play nice at big parties, full of rich people in very flashy and expensive clothing. Vaguely he wondered if his father had ever tried to find her a wife or something. Jim could imagine that too, actually.

“Were you some lecherous creep?” he asked, brow raising with a smile. “No judgment here, by the way. I was a shameless jerk. Jumped into bed with anything willing.” And with him, it was rare to find someone who wasn’t willing.

Victor’s father had, in fact, tried to find a wife for his son. He gave up when it was clear his son’s interest in the macabre wouldn’t endear him toward women. Victor had to think about the question before answering.

“I did stare at another woman’s ass while on a date,” he admitted, “but she was rambling on about kids and true love on a first date.” And he was pretty sure Ruby had leaned over like that on purpose, though he never asked her. “Aside from accidentally having an affair, I can’t really say I was much of a creep. And to be fair,” he went on, “her cursed self was single.”

“If she wasn’t married in her cursed life, I’m pretty sure technically that doesn’t count,” he pointed out, not particularly bothered by that piece of information. He was all about technicalities like that.

He narrowed his eyes a bit playfully at Victor. “I better not catch you checking out some other woman’s ass during one of our dates.” You know, not that he’s prone to talking about kids and true love, but he could.

[jolting]

"That's what I said," Victor agreed. And as he had delivered the Charmings' son, that part of their history had since been forgotten.

James's comment made him snort. "Please. The only ass I'm interested in staring at is yours." He reached down to give it a firm squeeze. "Especially when you wear tight pants or those briefs I like."

Jim winked and smiled at the both of them thinking the same way. Jim had never been much of a stickler regarding monogamy, anyway. At least not when he was younger.

He gasped when Victor groped him, pressing up closer to the doctor. “Mm, maybe I should’ve worn briefs for this date... sorry for that terrible oversight.”

[jolting]

Honestly, James could wear the baggiest clothes and have his hair a mess, and Victor would still find him to be the most attractive person in the room. Still, Victor gave him a little swat on the ass.

"You'll just have to remember next time."

Jim knew very well that Victor didn’t actually mind him wearing boxers, but he still liked the way Victor said that, and particularly that light swat on his ass.

“I don’t know... if that’s the reaction I get, I might not ever wear briefs again.”

[jolting]

He chuckled, nibbling lightly on James's earlobe. "Mmmm. Like going commando? Might be worth it. If you ask nicely, I may do it again."

“Well... you’d leave more of an impression that way.” Or his hand would, to be more precise. He bit at his own lower lip, both hands moving to cup Victor’s neck. “How nicely? If I say ‘please’, if I pout or get on my knees?”

[jolting]

Victor swayed them for a while, as if he needed to think over his options. "Tough choices. You're pretty cute when you pout." He kissed along James's jaw. "Try that."

“Thought I was always cute,” he said playfully, reluctantly pulling back so he could purse his lips in a soft pout for Victor, eyebrows knitting together and all.

[jolting]

"You are, babe," Victor assured him, kissing the pursed lips gently. He pulled back, snagging the bottom lip with his teeth and sucking on it as he gave James's ass another slap.

"You're so cute I just want to take you home," he added, laughing a little.

He let out a soft little yelp, grinning and giggling at the slap to his ass. That contact was of course enough to get Jim to press even closer to Victor again.

“But you.are taking me home,” he pointed out. Maybe not right now, sure— but Jim wouldn’t mind going now either. As long as Victor was with him, he didn’t mind where he was.

He loved it when they were this close. He could feel every line of James's body, how their heights made them perfectly slotted together in all the right places. Like their mouths, as he demonstrated by pressing in for another light kiss.

"I am, but we don't have to go just yet. Unless you want to save the rest of this for when we get home." He gave James's ass a gentle little pat.

He returned the kiss all too happily, his hands running softly through Victor’s hair. “No. I’m not in a rush. And I am enjoying our date,” he said. He was curious for what Victor had in store for them, includintg what he’d planned for their dinner.
