Jim couldn't complain about time with Victor, these days. Since moving in together, they had gotten many opportunities to enjoy each other's company, either with Lucy or just the two of them. Still, it felt nice doing something special every once in a while. It had been the reason why Jim had decided to learn how to dance, so he could surprise Victor with a special date, but that'd have to wait until he'd had a decent number of lessons.

But until then, there were still plenty of ideas for fun, romantic dates. The idea for this one had sort of been built on a random text exchange, and Victor eventually took over the preparations, but Jim didn't mind that at all. Lucy had gone to the sitter's house directly after school, so they'd have the house all to themselves until the following day, and Jim had left work early so he could get ready for their date.

Not that he needed to try so hard, granted, but like he'd told Victor once, he still wanted to. He'd picked out a nice but still comfortable outfit— a pair of dark jeans, a fun plaid shirt, and a simple pullover in case it got chilly later in the night. Overall, an adequate outfit for the theme of the date, he thought.

Checking himself in the mirror one last time (he'd gone through a whole routine, so he looked perfectly groomed and smelled really nice too), he waited until he got a text from Victor, then he grabbed his wallet and phone and headed out the door. Victor had mentioned renting a car, so he looked around for one parked outside, possibly still running.

Since their very first date was the result of a random text message, Victor was more than happy that another one inspired them again. James made a good point that they deserved some time to themselves after all that happened the last few months. And this was actually a date idea he had for a while, so he was happy for a time to do it.

Victor brought a change of clothes to work so he could switch out of his work attire before the date. And he lucked out in finding a car that matched the one he owned in Storybrooke. So he rolled up, parking so he could see James, and give him the bouquet of flowers. Since he was color-blind, he had the flourish arrange the colors so they would say the right things. All love and affection, of course.

He tried to dress different from his norm, donning a denim jacket over a T-shirt representing the band The Cure. He hoped James would like it. Victor saw what his boyfriend was wearing and his eyes went very wide. He couldn’t see the colors, but could tell from the pattern what it was.

“Whoa. You can even make plaid sexy.”

Jim spotted the car and a smile immediately took over his features, as he practically hopped the rest of the way towards Victor. He wrapped his arms around the doctor's neck, leaning in to kiss him, then pulling back so he could slide his hands down Victor's front.

"And you look like the high school boyfriend I totally should've had," he said, a bit teasing, definitely flirty. He liked the detail of the band, that was a nice touch. "You look pretty sexy yourself, for the record."

Stealing another quick kiss, he then peeked behind Victor and into the car, where he spotted the bouquet of flowers resting on the passenger seat. "What's that? Are they for me?"

[jolting]

Victor’s arms went around James’s waist as soon as he felt the ones around his neck. He felt very pleased with the reaction. “That was the idea,” he assured James. He would’ve liked having James as a boyfriend in his teen years. Tonight, maybe they could recreate what that would have been like.

Victor was quick to open the door. The bouquet had camellias and tulips along with the staple of roses. “You like them?”

He was more than happy to recreate that experience. Not that Jim didn't have his fair share of dalliances during his teenage years, but he definitely wouldn't have called them girlfriends or boyfriends. It was very different from this.

His smile widened, if possible, when Victor pulled the bouquet from the car. He accepted it, eyes bright as he looked over the bouquet, then held it closer to his chest. "They're perfect. Thank you."

[jolting]

“Glad you like them.” He definitely needed to buy James more flowers if this was the reaction he would get. “You can go put them in water. I’ll wait out here.” He leaned in to give a light kiss. He’d save the rest for later.

[winscenario]

"I'll be right back," he said, then quickly rushed back into the house. He found a nice jar for the flowers, setting them on the kitchen counter for now, then headed back out so he could join Victor by the car again.

"So! Should we head out?"

[jolting]

While James was gone, Victor checked back sear to make sure he had everything ready for the rest of their evening. He gestured to the open passenger door .

“Hop in. I found a great place we can go for a drive-in, and it has a nice open view of the night sky.”

"Sounds perfect," he said as he climbed into the car, buckling himself into his seat. He looked around the inside of the car, admiring the seats and the dashboard, while Victor started driving them down the street.

[jolting]

It was a pretty damn nice car. Victor was already not looking forward to returning it. As he mentioned, he found a spot where they could park and watch a movie. The actual movie wasn’t the most important part of this experience.

“We have popcorn and Twizzlers and pop rocks, and a few other snacks,” he said once he parked. “It’s in the back seat. Grab what you want.”

Jim had a weakness for vintage cars, so his opinion was obviously biased. For most of the ride he seemed more intent on admiring the car than anything else, though Victor's words did redirect his attention to the back seat.

"You make it really hard to choose," he chuckled, reaching for some popcorn first. He'd help himself to the rest eventually. For now he settled in to watch the movie, at least for as long as it managed to capture his attention. The man sitting next to him was far more interesting, after all.

"Did you have these, in Storybrooke?"

[jolting]

Victor gave him an amused look before getting some popcorn for himself. He mostly paid attention to the movie, though now and then he glanced over to look at James. Making sure he was enjoying himself so far.

“No. We don’t have any kind of movie theater. I’m not even sure why we have cars, since the town’s small enough to walk everywhere.” He shrugged away that particular mystery. “This car is a lot like the one I have in Storybrooke. All it needs is a vanity plate that says ‘the doctor’.”

Jim's eyebrows climbed up his forehead, and he turned to stare at him. "Seriously? Not even a normal movie theater?" He paused just to process that information. "And you were stuck there for 30 years. Damn, that's rough." Even in Riverside they had a movie theater. Granted, it was small and old, but Jim liked that even more.

"It's a really nice car," he agreed, running his fingers over the dashboard. He chuckled at the last bit. "Can't believe you had a plate that said 'the doctor'. That's terrible."

[jolting]

The strangeness of Storybrooke was often lost on him until he talked to someone not from there. “We still had movies, James,” he said with a laugh. “And television. I watched Universal monster movies and loved Lost in Space. We just didn’t have a theater.”

Victor smiled at the comment on his vanity plate. “What can I say, you fell in love with an egocentric nerd.”

"No, I know you did!" He laughed, shaking his head. "I mean, you do know about movies, so I figured as much. Just didn't know the place didn't have a theater. Well, maybe I shouldn't be so surprised. It's just weird for me to imagine." Even the smallest towns had holotheaters where he came from, after all. Different times. Plus, Storybrooke wasn't just any normal town.

"Mm, yes I did," he leaned over to press a quick kiss to Victor's cheek. "And I love you just the way you are."

[jolting]

“The library was locked up, too,” Victor added. “Belle opened it once she was adjusted to being in town.”

He chuckled, squeezing James’s hand. “Love you too, babe. Love that shirt, too. Is that what you wore in Iowa?”

[winscenario]

"Belle. From Beauty and the Beast, I take it," he raised an eyebrow, popping some popcorn into his mouth. "Mm, sometimes... usually it was just old jeans, a t-shirt and a leather jacket. Never bothered much about the way I looked."

He never bothered much about anything back then, really. "I wanted to dress up a little, for our date. But not too much, you know?"

[jolting]

“Naturally. Can you think of anyone else more suited to be a librarian?” He meant it rhetorically since of course there wasn’t anyone else.

“Mmn. In that case, I’m honored.” He stole a kiss, licking off some of the salt and butter on James’s lips. He wondered if this was how making out in a drive-in got started.

[winscenario]

"Right, of course," he chuckled, shaking his head a little. It was just something he still found himself wrapping his head around, sometimes. All those fairytales existing where Victor came from.

He let out a surprised yelp when Victor leaned in and kissed him, laughing afterwards. "You're going to distract me from the movie if you do that again."

[jolting]

“Oh, you wanted to watch the movie?” Victor smirked at him playfully. “All right, if you insist.” He started on a Twizzler, focusing back on the movie. There was plenty of time for kissing and other things later.

[winscenario]

He snorted, shaking his head as he looked away from Victor. "Tease." Granted, if they started kissing now they definitely wouldn't stop. Thinking about it now, that sounded like a great idea. He didn't care that much about the movie.

After about fifteen minutes of silently watching the movie, he set down the popcorn on the backseat, then reached across the console to cup Victor's face, pulling him closer so he could kiss him again.

[jolting]

Victor contently munched on his Twizzlers. He knew James would reach for him sooner or later; he just hoped for sooner. At last he did, and Victor let out a content sigh, trying to lean in with what space they had. He now saw why making out in cars usually happened in the back seat.

But they could kiss like this for a while.

The space between the two seats put a bit of a damper on things, but at least they weren't wearing their seatbelts anymore. Jim managed to draw up his legs as he turned to the side, hands sifting through Victor's hair while he kissed him slowly, tongue darting out once or twice to swipe across the doctor's lips.

Despite not being able to get much closer, this was still pretty nice. Jim certainly had no complaints.

Victor tried shifting closer, hand resting on James’s leg to steady himself. He let out a soft purr feeling a hand in his hair, his own fingers moving to reciprocate. The purr shifted into a moan once tongue came into play. He nudged his against James’s mouth in response. He slid his hand up and down the length of James’s leg as they kissed, the movie’s audio slowly becoming background noise to him.

Jim smiled a little against Victor's lips. It always pleased him how responsive the doctor was. He tried shifting a little closer, his knee resting on Victor's lap, while one of his hands dropped down and slid underneath his jacket, tracing his chest and shoulder. He hummed a little against the kiss, parting his lips wider so they could deepen the contact, inviting Victor's tongue into his mouth.

It was easy to be responsive around James. The man was addicting, and one taste usually wasn't enough for Victor. Especially not in moments like these where they were alone and had hours to take their time with each other. His fingers squeezed James's thigh, tongue moving at the invitation to taste more of the other man's mouth.
