prijata

In the days leading up to June 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Prijata. Riverview Quarantine has a strong culture of love, and they celebrate all types - Prijata is a special celebration of platonic love and building community through friendship. Prijata traditions include gift exchanges between friends, sharing meals cooked together by friend groups, and a variety of events and services aimed at making friends.

a celebration of platonic love

Prijata is a relatively relaxed holiday, focused mainly on friendship and platonic love - dedicated to appreciating the friends already in one's life, and opening oneself up to making new friends. Besides the private giving of gifts between friends, there is also a city-wide government-sponsored gift fountain that is open throughout the entire month. Included in the wide variety of events catered to finding new friends, are 'speed friending' and a large open exhibition where all the specialized clubs in Riverview can recruit for new members - and residents new or old can create a club and recruit.

i. gift fountain

While Prijata gift exchanges between friends are generally a quiet affair, done at friend-group dinners or parties, the element of gift giving does extend outward - community-wide, in fact. Throughout the course of the month, anyone living in Riverview Quarantine can drop by the huge fountain in the City Center, in front of the City Hall. They will find that the fountain is chock full of floating gift boxes in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and different shapes - though none larger than a shoe box. There are signs put up around the fountain stating that the boxes are magic and will only seek and open for their rightful owners. Characters will find that, upon touching the water, a box will float over to them, and when they pick it up, the top will unfurl like flower petals, displaying the gift inside. Sometimes, the box won't appear on the first try, since there's only so much space in the fountain at any given time, but if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Every person in the city (including new arrivals) will receive one gift by the end of the month.

Gift fountain boxes will contain one small item from each character's home dimension (or, for CRAUs, from their previous game), similar to the "items from home" bonus reward, but without needing to spend points. The item should be small enough to fit in a shoebox, sentimental, and cannot be something intended for another person's character. If you can't think of an item like this that would work for your character, something of similar size and quality to what's described above that would make the character very happy can be substituted.

This prompt can also be used for gift exchanges and for characters to receive the Government-given gifts that were suggested in the Prijata Pregaming post on the meme community. Any newly apped character is welcome to post on the meme entry as soon as they're accepted, and will be linked to it in this month's acceptance notification, so to all you pre-existing players please keep looking at the Prijata Pregame meme throughout app week and afterward to help give new arrivals a warm friendly welcome!

ii. speed-friending

This is pretty much what it says on the tin! Much like speed-dating setups, many bars, coffee shops, and other places that people might gather are holding speed-friending! It's your standard setup - characters enter and fill out a quick questionnaire about themselves, and flit from table to table looking for someone with great friend chemistry. Not all of them are general and open to anyone who walks in, though, with many being specialized to people who are invested in certain hobbies, occupations, or with specific sets of interests. With specialized speed-friending setups ranging from horror movie buffs to members of the Perimeter Guard to fashionistas to sports or martial arts to video games, no matter what your character is into, they're likely to be able to sign up for a special event where they can go looking for a friend who's into the same things they are!

For this prompt, you can put up a list of hobbies or interests your character has, and compatible characters can hit them up for a speed-friending thread, like the IC equivalent of the CR meme!

iii. club exhibition

Speed-friending is all well and good, but not everyone is outgoing or open enough to know if they have friend chemistry in only a few minutes. For anyone looking to find groups of like-minded individuals they can spend more than a few minutes with before committing to something as daunting as a friendship, there is a month-long club exhibition happening in the Town Square in the City Center. Table after table and booth after booth are occupied by existing clubs in the city, with an incredibly broad scope of focus interests and hobbies - enough that any character should be able to find a club with their niche interest represented.

And if it isn't? Characters are welcome to start their own clubs - much like a business, a character-run club can have space set aside in the city for meetings and event mingles that are eligible for Activity Point Bonuses for the organizer.

iv. amusement park & waterfight

Remember the Amusement Park that citizens of the city were working together to clean up and power up a couple of months ago? Well, the endeavor has proven to be a success, and after a lot of hard work and technical expertise, the amusement park is up and running! For the first two weeks of June, admission will be free to honor those who helped make the park usable.

Sporting just about any amusement park ride you can think of, from kiddie rides, merry-go-rounds, and ferris wheels to high-speed roller coasters and more extreme rides for the thrill-seekers, the park takes it a step further by adding in a lot of different high-tech attractions not available at conventional amusement parks. It has banks and banks of VR simulators that allow park-goers to enjoy a variety of adventures and scenarios, or join shared mutual worlds with other users to explore or take out their aggression with a VR first-person shooter. There are also rows and rows of typical carnival games, some heavily rigged and some not, with prizes ranging from dollar store trinkets to stuffed animals to bits of advanced tech.

For the month of grand opening, though, the amusement park is offering a couple interesting events - a naming contest for the park, and a park-wide water fight.

The water fight is opt-in, with participants signing up and being given a purple or orange flag, tank top, or cap to wear marking them as to which team they're part of. There are buckets of water balloons around the park that are constantly being refilled by staff, and water fighters can participate in special target practice games to win the use of a watergun for the duration of the day - how big your watergun is depends on how well you do in the game! Ultimately, there aren't any real winners or losers, because the point is to get wet in the brand new summer heat, but it's always more fun to cool off with a bit of competition involved, right?

The naming contest is another story. Anyone who visits the park is welcome to think up a name for the park, and all entries will be listed on a large LED board. Every customer who enters the park is invited to vote for their favorite name, and the name with the most votes wins! To submit either an in-character suggestion or a suggestion from yourself as a player, hit up the thread below with a new top-level; whether or not you have a neat idea, place a vote for your favorite! Votes are one per player; suggestions are one per character.

v. roommates or wildcard

Feel free to use this prompt to set up headers for a communal floor, or threads open to roommates for the purpose of getting to know each other. Or if you have an idea for a prompt that isn't in this list, set during Prijata, feel free to write it up!

Poe Dameron | The Wars In Our Stars

i. asshole fountain??

[ Poe is curious. He remembers the last time they did something like this--he still has the holocube with his family's portrait set on his dresser at home. A part of him is afraid to find out what else this place can throw at him from home.

Still. He slips his fingertips into the water and is rewarded by the sight of a small box done up in orange and white bobbing his way. He scoops it out of the water, and almost laughs as it opens. Another holocube. Poe picks it up. Hesitates. Activates it as he sets the little orange flower back on the water.

Leia's face appears, eyes sad, and she speaks. Dear Kes and Poe: I learned recently of the passing of your wife and mother. I can only imagine your grief, and offer my sincerest--

He deactivates the holocube fast, staring at the spot where Leia's face hovered a moment before.

Well. Fuck. ]

iii. birbs and hiking boots

[ He's trying. He really is. He's trying to adjust to the possibility of being here long term. He's trying to focus on what he can do here, the way Victor advised. Joining a club seems like a stupid idea, really, but he's trying.

Which is why he's hovering near a hiking club, having just ducked away from a booth of bird watchers. This is stupid. This is completely stupid. But he kinda wants to give one or both a shot. ]

iv. everybody loves a carnival

[ Okay this is definitely his speed. He's everywhere, particularly the adrenaline-heavy rides and the VR booths, the ones that involve communal exploration and very much not the ones that involve shooting each other. There's nothing entertaining in that. Any shots he does take are part of his attempts to win something at the carnival games.

He's also, definitely into the water fights. He is on the orange team, because of course he is. ]

i. sentimentality is for chumps!!

[ She's only going to do this once. Yeah, she's heard that sometimes it doesn't work right away, yeah, she knows she can come back later. But if it doesn't work this time around, she's not coming back. She doesn't want to. At least she has Dom to keep her company, the dog sticking close to her side and eyeballing anyone who comes too close.

Chyler touches the surface of the water with a fingertip, just another teenager in a crowd of all ages. She counts to ten, watching the little gifts swirl and move to their respective owners. Watches for anything headed her way. And then, almost relieved, takes her finger from the water.

She's turning to go when a little blue package bumps to a halt against her spot at the fountain. Chyler turns back around. The package keeps bumping against the rim of the fountain, apparently determined to be opened. ]

ii. speed-friending....

[ Chyler can't believe she's doing this. But John keeps getting after her to make more friends, and he's usually right about... well, everything. So here she is. She signed up for exactly three speed-friending events: a military one, and one for weapons enthusiasts. And, grudgingly, one for people ages 13-19. TADA. ]

iv. amusement parking

[ Chyler is at first as hesitant to get involved with anything at the amusement park as she is hesitant to get involved with anything that seems frivolous. And the amusement park is nothing but frivolous. But when your boss orders you to take the day off and go have fun and keeps your dog as collateral, you listen. Or you try anyway.

So here she is, attempting carnival games, slowly getting into the VR games (racing, exploration, fantasy--no shooting. no guns.), and finally contemplating some of the rides. It doesn't feel right to go for the easy ones. No, she's eyeballing things like the slingshot and the highest rollercoasters, because what's the point of doing something if you aren't going to go all the way? ]

[ i. gift fountain ]

[ Dorian hadn't really approached the fountain. He merely enjoyed watching people come and go, watching their faces light up with joy, soften with affection or drop with regret. Over . . . possessions. He doesn't quite understand it. John Kennex had that room full of trophies from school (which again, Dorian will never get because why). Captain Maldonado keeps her award on her table (to remind herself, perhaps?).

So after a while, he manages to muster up the nerve to approach the fountain. To see what might appear.

But nothing shows. Minutes pass, and there's . . . nothing.

He chuckles, lightly, self-conscious. ]

I guess that was expecting a bit much.

[ ii. speed friending ]

[ Dorian is more used to the idea of going out. Doing things. What things, he's not entirely sure of, but he has a list. Something like a list? Some of the hobbies he listed are: karaoke, sight-seeing . . . Look he's trying. And when you approach him in his group, Dorian pipes up with a bright smile, standing up to shake your hand enthusastically. ]

Hey. It's nice to meet you.

[ He's very excited, okay. ]

[ v. wildcard! giftgiving ]

[ Dorian isn't used to giving gifts. He's still getting used to getting money and being a non-state property. He'll also be helping out at the amusement park and the waterfight, mostly with kids and getting them set up for their events and activities. ]

i. gift fountain

Oh man, no way!

[Peter had been sort of settling into Riverview, as it were. If he's gonna be stuck here — might as well make the most of it, right? And though he isn't quite swayed to reveal his identity as a super-powered teenager yet, he's more than happy to be plain ol' normal Peter Parker at Riverview High School. He'd learned his lesson back home — take your time, and stop trying to zoom through life. All that jazz. Enjoy school! Think about your future! Yadda yadda. So he's doin' that, y'know?

But he does feel a little awkward, during Prijata. It takes him more time than he'd like to admit, to make friends. Ned was his best friend for a few years, and he was also the one who initiated friendship. Peter used to be a lot more withdrawn than he is now, even with the plucky, overbearing attiude (or maybe it's because of that, that he had a hard time getting along with 'the cool kids').

Or maybe it's the fact that he's fifteen years old and holding up a plastic toy Iron Man mask like it's the best thing in the entire universe. Maybe that. But to be fair, this dented up, cracked, slightly tarnished Iron Man mask was from his childhood; he never thought he'd see this thing again, not since it got lost during one of their trips to the mall. Duuude, he was so distraught.]

It's even still got my name on the inside; oh my gosh, this is the coolest gift.

Thank you, thank you — uh... weird... magic fountain.

[IT'S EMOTIONAL FOR HIM LEAVE HIM ALONE???

... He's not gonna put it on, okay, it's for decoration now.

He's not a little kid anymore, sheesh.]

ii. speed-friending

... This was a bad idea.

[When a local nudges you into things, you tend to just roll with it, right? Especially when you admit you don't really have a lot of people to give things to for Prijata. So here he is, sitting in a cafe, awkwardly twidling his thumbs. It feels way too much like a date. Or desperation. Yes, definitely deseperation, and that old part of him feels like it's gonna be middle school all over again — like, sympathy visits at the lunch table by the nice girl from art class, or, or, the teacher inviting him to hang out in her class for recess while he waxes poetic about building a little robot from a robot-making kit Uncle Ben bought him for Christmas—

His little list was submitted, though:

NAME: Peter The High School Student (yes that's my first, middle, middle, middle, and last name, thanks for asking!)
INTERESTS: movies, robots, science, LEGOs, math, chemistry, books.
I lived in New York, and I like science fiction stuff.
Ummmm!! I like building things, I guess. Any kind of thing.
I like oldschool technology, too! Old computers and retro stuff like walkmans and old mac computers.
I like recycling?
Sorry, that's not very cool
but it's cool for the planet, right?

... He appears to have scribbled out the beginnings of more rambling.

This was a terrible idea. Good going, Pete. Uuugh.]

iii. club exhibition

Wassup, hit ya boy up for some robo-building. Robot Wars, we can totally do it.]

i. Gift Fountain
[Hiccup had been a little skeptical when someone explained the gift fountain to him. While by now, he knows magic exists and has witnessed plenty of it, every new bit of magic still takes a moment to wrap his brain around. Just out of class one day, walking through the City Center with Toothless plodding along at his side, he stops at the fountain out of curiosity.

Toothless leans against the edge of it, sniffing curiously at the floating boxes within, tail swishing, and Hiccup sits down next to him, reaching out to swirl his fingers through the water.]
Yeah, I don't know about this either, bud. It's nice of the city to give everyone a present, but- how can they be that specific? [He laughs a little, continuing to trail his fingers in aimless patterns through the water, until...

A black box emblazoned with a stylized red skull floats toward him. Hiccup's eyes widen as Toothless reaches out a foot to pat at it gently, curiously, recognizing the symbol that adorns his tail fin.]
How...

[He picks it up in slightly trembling hands, and opens the lid. Inside is a very battered toy, singed and water damaged and old, having definitely seen better days, but Hiccup sets the box in his lap and touches it like it's precious.] Oh...

ii. Speed Friending
[Speed friending seemed like an interesting concept. He's more fascinated by how it works than expecting to really make new friends at one of these, but throughout Prijata, he shows up to events for budding inventors and engineers, traditional blacksmithing, wildlife enthusiasts, Surveyors, students, and those originally from non-modern worlds. The last one slightly reluctantly, because while he's in Riverview, he's been trying very hard to get up to date on modern technology and society; that doesn't mean it isn't hard sometimes.

When someone stops at his table, or he stops in at someone else's table, Hiccup is warm and friendly, enthusiastic about starting conversation.]

iv. Amusement Park
[It's hot out, and the water-fight is tempting, but athletically, Hiccup is less likely to keep up. Sure, he's not as scrawny or undersized as he used to be, and he's been plenty active over the years, but running around shooting each other with water-guns doesn't seem like his thing. Still, in deference to the weather, he's traded his jeans for a pair of breezier jogging pants, the left leg rolled up almost to the knee to stay out of the way of his prosthetic foot, and a light t-shirt. If he wasn't willing to dress like the natives, he would die. Leather in summer. No.

He takes the time to wander the amusement park with Toothless, to see it finally finished and working again. He did some of the carpentry and clearing a couple months back, and it's nice to see all their work paid off.

Eventually, he finds the carnival games! Bypassing the booths with traditional stuffed animal prizes, he stops in at the games that boast bits of tech as rewards. Specifically, a wristwatch GPS and compass device with holographic maps has noticeably caught his eye. He Wants It. When the booth guy asks him if he wants to play - a simple "throw the ball and knock over the milk bottles" game - he seems enthusiastic.]
Yeah! Three tries, please. [He pays, and the balls are handed over. Taking careful aim, he lets the first one go. It hits the center of the tower, and they don't so much as wobble.]

What? Come on!

a → amusement park

[He's been here long enough to know what festival is coming next, and to know roughly what to expect from them. The amusement park is new, though, considering it wasn't open last Prijata, so he's curious enough to go check it out. The fact that this is supposed to fun, something to shake off the dredges of Memoria, helps.

So Taako throws himself into the whole amusement part of the park with gusto; rollercoasters are great, as are any similar kind of thrill rides, and he has no qualms about cheating on the carnival games because they're all rigged anyway, he's just evening up the odds. Just don't be a snitch.

The VR has him a little warier, considering the bullshit Lucas pulled at the Bureau, so he might be in a slightly heated discussion with one of the attendants, trying to get reassurance that he won't be stuck in there or anything. It's happened before, it's a valid concern.

Or maybe he's just wandering around the park with some carnival food in hand. It might be surprising to see a fancy chef go to town on a corn dog, but his love of food includes terrible greasy or sugary (or both), because it's an important part of a balanced diet. Cotton candy is pretty good, too.]

b → water fight

[The paintball tournament was all well and good, but a water fight is even more fun. It doesn't involve slightly painful paint bullets, and it's a great way to cool down now that it's starting to get warm. Also, it's easier to cheat with water.

Taako has a handful of spells that can direct or control water and he's absolutely using them to make this more fun. The color of the flag tied around his wrist seems to change every couple of minutes based on whether he wants to team up or dunk on someone in particular.

At one point, there's an illusory Taako running around that acts perfectly like him, until struck by a water balloon. Those go right through the illusion and leave Taako open to toss his own water balloon at whoever tried to get him first.

Take that.

He also definitely ""acquired"" a water gun, because he needed to extra advantage.]

c → wildcard/gift exchange

[Taako will be hand delivering most gifts because half the point of these things is getting satisfaction out of seeing someone like what they've been given.

If you wanna do something with gift exchanges or any other options just drop me a starter or hmu on plurk.]

i. gift giving

[For people around the fountain, whether they are new or familiar, Steve is trying to contribute to the festivities in his way. He has a box of cookies in all sorts of types and shapes that he's acquired from around town and he's offering them to people who are coming to get their gifts or are passing by. Between interactions, he's also doing some sketches, so he might end up doing one of you on the fly. Or a friend if anyone makes requests.]

I don't know how they manage to sort these boxes by floating them. Help yourself.

[He gestures to the cookies.]

iii. clubs and things

[So there are plenty of different clubs in Quarantine and Steve is checking them out. Branch out and make friends is something he's at least trying to embrace this time around. And he does visit a few of the athletics and sports clubs to participate in their activities. Eventually he winds up branching off from a free running club and mixing in with a few of the martial arts enthusiasts, combining the two and engaging people in free sparring using banisters and various local structures as part of the fun. He does look a little smug perched on a high wall surrounding a section of the park.]

Anyone else want to try?

iv. water fight

[For those participating in the water fight, Steve is wearing a purple cap and throwing balloons at any opposing orange team members. He hasn't bothered to try to upgrade to a gun for the game, although with his accuracy he probably could have by now. Instead, he likes to rush in, grab balloons from the available buckets, and toss them at opponents that think him being in the open means he'll be an easy target. He might have a bit of an advantage when it comes to quick reflexes and gymnastics, but that's only if the other people aren't also using powers. And he does adjust his responses to match those around him. It's only fair.

Still, he could stand to be surrounded or have a bucket dumped on him. Maybe a sniper can catch him.]

v. wildcard

[ooc: Any personal chats or interactions not related to the main prompts are welcome! If you'd like to thread Steve giving your character a gift, doing Perimeter Guard work, or anything else I didn't think of, feel free to toss that at me!]

[Victor goes by the fountain, not because he's actually expecting any gifts but because he's curious. He's heard about this magical fountain and wants to see it in action. So he kind of hangs back for a while to watch other people receiving their gifts. He also does a sketch of the fountain.

After a while, he does get up to try the fountain for himself. It's more experimental than expectant when he dips his fingers into the water. To his surprise, a box floats right to him. Victor hesitates a moment before picking it up to see what's inside. His eyes go wide when he sees the familiar object. Victor doesn't have much from his original world that he cares to have, but this... this is definitely something special to him.

He cradles the medal in his hands, staring at it for a long time. Recalling Gerhardt wearing it, how proud he'd been of his brother, how modest Gerhardt was of the praise. He stands just holding it for a long time before putting it in his pocket. He'll find a more secure way to hold onto it later]

iv

[Victor was likely talked into coming here by James and/or Lucy. He's not the sort who would voluntarily go to an amusement park, but he's decided to have fun anyway. If Lucy wants to go on any rides, he either accompanies her or stands back to watch her have fun. He will even take pictures like the proud dad he is. He will also try to coax James onto the Ferris wheel at some point-- and is very confident he won't have to coax too hard.

He also hits up the carnival games. He likes doing these because they're pretty fun and he can take the prizes back to the hospital for the kids. Any advanced tech he might win, he's keeping.

Who knows, he may even be persuaded to join in the water fight. It could happen]

II. [Right, so. Speed-friending feels about as awkward as it sounds, but it's also something Teddy feels like he needs right now. It isn't the first time it's felt like his life's been turned upside down, and it won't be the last either, but having some new people to hang out with? Some distraction? That sounds good. Besides, he doesn't know where all the good places are around here, all the good spots to hang out... might as well find someone who knows, right?

Besides, he's in a nice little coffee shop that's hosting an event. Teddy's list of interests wasn't all that deep. Movies, video games, basketball, comics. All the geeky, nerdy stuff that he's almost afraid that he'll miss until he goes back home.

But that's stupid, right? There's got to at least be video games here.

He's idly nursing a coffee as he looks around, offering a friendly smile up to whoever approaches him.]

Hey-- I'm Teddy.

IV. [It's almost impossible to be sad or out of place at an amusement park, right? The lights, the music, all the people bustling around. Oh, and all the rides and the terrible food... which Teddy can pack away a lot of, honestly. Especially if it happens to be cotto candy. He checks out the VR simulators eagerly, the first-person shooters are interesting... and not too far off from games he played at home.

Just a lot more involved.

When he's had his fill of food and VR and rollercoasters, Teddy decides to hit up the carnival games. The strength testing ones, he feels a little bad about... super strength and all, but he eases his conscience a little by handing out whatever stuffed toys he has to whoever's around. Not like he needs a big stuffed bear or bunny after all.]

i.
[So Padmé might have spent a few days settling in, meaning attempting to find a way to depart or a means to communicate off planet. Given that she is still here, it is clear that her search for such has been unsuccessful. She isn't entirely impressed although she is of the mind-set to make the best out of the situation until such a time that she can return. The surprise had seemed genuine when she had pointed out that she certainly had had no desire to come here, and while Padmé isn't entirely sure she believes the answer given that she would return home, eventually, exactly when she had left, there is little to be done about it.

It isn't too foreign to her, this place. Being from a space fairing place, she has visited different planets, and Coruscant itself is a large hub of blended cultures- not that she has ventured too far down in to the lower levels. She has set out, hair half up, coiled in two buns on either side of her head, taking in the city. It is bright and lively, which is infectious, and a smile might linger at some of the sights and sounds.

She does eventually find herself in front of the fountain, one eyebrow slightly arched as she reads the sign. Her fingers rest on the lip, eyes wandering over the various packages, although she makes no move yet, rather watching individuals with a curious light in her eyes. It isn't until someone comes closer that her head tilts towards them, inquisitive, yet friendly, as she asks.]

Have you done it yet? Received a gift?

ii.
[Speed-friending. It is a first, although it does seem like an interesting way to get to know people here in this city. It takes her a little time to fill out the form, as short as it is, being as thorough as she can. A debate, as she knows that some topics are not exactly what people tend to discuss, and even Anakin had mocked her ever so for being a politician. Yet, in the end, they are important to her, and she lists the items off truthfully. There's no reason to getting off on the wrong foot.

Politics, community work, swimming, reading, training, learning about people/cultures/different planets, plays, music, public service

It is a smile that is given to each new person that she meets, that open friendliness quite clear on her face. She might not give away all her secrets or share her private thoughts, but she is clearly interested in actually meeting others and learning about their lives. One never knows who one will meet.]

Hello. I'm Padmé Amidala, from the planet of Naboo, and it's a pleasure to meet you.

[A part of Padmé is itching to do something, snapping at the bit, knowing that somewhere, Anakin is waiting and Obi-Wan is trapped, that the galaxy seems to be spinning out of control. She isn't foolish enough to think that she can stop events from happening, but a part of her acknowledges that she wants to try to do her part. There's little cause here, and she does drive herself a little stir crazy some days, pacing around the communal residence that she shares with others, wondering what else she could have done.

At the moment, there is little though, and it is why she has decided that she would visit this amusement park. It has been ages since she has set foot in one, usually tied up with her duties and obligations. Some of the attractions are familiar, others less so. She might pause by those foreign ones, watching others play the games.]

Oh! I thought the ball would have stayed in the basket.

[It's only later that she tried her own hand at it, finding a game where one hits little duckies moving back and forth. Thankfully it is not a real gun (or one that would do much damage anyway other than be annoying) nor are the creatures real. Judging by how she holds it, she is familiar enough with weapons, although a blaster would be her gun of choice.

One.

Two.

... and the third doesn't go down.]

I could have sworn I hit it.

[Not that she is complaining in the least, which is why she does offer up a smile to the attendant, returning the fake weapon.]

ii. speed friending

[ Since his arrival and reunion with three of his five brothers, Jyushimatsu learned quite a bit about Riverview and its citizens. Behind his carefree forefront with which he uses to deal with all situations, he wandered around places and people-watched while doing his usual Jyushimatsu things, like climbing on anything he could climb on and using random object as makeshift baseball bats since he doesn't possess his own from back home.

After a lot of watching, he decided that in order to catch up with his brothers and their achievements he must do what would be considered a Hit And Miss for a raw, unruly wild card like him: *~GETTING FRIENDS~*.

And that's why he's now sitting at the table of this speed friending thing that is like speed dating but with friends! Sure, he would like to have a love interest like his brothers and finally get rid of his virginity, but he's in no rush. First, friends! Then, romance. Then, secross.

If you're a fan of baseball and sports in general you might face this bean-like individual whose smile splits his face in a way that is both endearing and kind of terrifying. But don't worry, he's a nice dude... half the time. ]

Hello I'm Jyushimatsu do you like baseball?

[ He says all of that in one single breath, with no-indoor voice whatsoever, resisting the urge to slam his long sleeved hands onto the table because he's EXCITED!!! TO HAVE FRIENDS!!! If he didn't scare you off yet, you can attempt a conversation with him. ]

iv. amusement park

[ As an ardent lover of undiluited fun, Jyushimatsu won't waste time skipping through every attraction and game he sees in the amusement park, trying out each one of those at least once. The rides he likes most he will play on a loop, especially the most dangerous types that he's going to enjoy time and time again with no evident hint of getting tired or bored. His characteristic happy screams echo through the area.

He's not too terribly concerned about having a thrill partner, but he kind of stands out among the people with his boundless energy and anyone is free to join up with him. Nothing's better than two people who bond over riding dangerous rollercoasters, right?

If you're not a fan of risky attractions, you will find him wildly flailing around and making strange loud noises as he's wearing a VR headset and is probably in the middle of fighting monsters, or other players. ]

v. wildcard

[ If you have a specific idea you'd like to play with me, you can reach me over at [plurk.com profile] gaiamemories and we'll plot it out! Jyushimatsu will also join in the waterfight, so whether you want to character to play with or against him, let me know! ]

Speed Friending
Lauren still was having trouble wrapping her mind around being... normal again. Not, normal normal. She still had powers, she still preffered to spend her days protecting the citizens and the wall. She still was distrustful of governments and large medical complexes.

But she wasn't on the run, she could have a social media account. She could make friends, go to the library. Go out for burgers! You don't really get how much you miss that, until you don't have it. However she was still not quite sure what she liked. She picked a few friend dating things to help meet people.

She picked one for Board Games, and another for Romance Novel Lovers. Look, the Underground didn't have the best options for light reading. She kinda got addicted.
Amusement Park
Lauren isn't fully comfortable in a swimsuit, but with an open shirt and a pair of shorts over said swimsuit she's a little more okay wandering around and trying to have some fun. She goes on the rides, the water rides are a lot more comfortable than anything resembling a roller coaster.

Too much like a car chase, but with less gunfire.

Still, her favorite passtime is unrigging the rigged carnival games. She hangs out long enough to figure out the game then she either reveals the game's rigged with her barriers (say, holding a ball on the ring it would never fit through). Or just flat out unmaking the rigged items (she can push cars, pushing a weighted milkbottle isn't hard).

And it isn't cheating if she's helping someone else win, right?

She also gets a lot of practice with her powers blocking collateral fire from the waterfight going across the park. She's not in the water fight, but she enjoys playing with her powers as practice when she should be taking it easy.

i. gift fountain
[Pidge is a bit dubious about this fountain thing. Although she's well aware that the galaxy has a whole lot more to it than dreamt of in any philosophy, the mention of magic makes her naturally skeptical, and besides -- she only just arrived. Who - or what, or whatever - is picking out the gifts, and how would they know what to give anyone?

So instead, she's watching other people as they receive their gifts. Obviously, some people are very affected by their gifts, and she doesn't try to interrupt them. But for anyone who looks like they might be up to commenting on it, she'll try to ask them about it, to figure this whole thing out a bit more.]

Is that something you were hoping to receive? Or I guess, is it something you'd asked anyone for?

ii. speed-friending
[She's not exactly the type to make friends quickly, or to feel totally incomplete without them. After all, she's got three of her fellow paladins here. But all the same, it would be nice to meet some people. This doesn't seem like a terrible way to do it.

So she finds a nice cafe and puts herself down on the list.

Programming
Space travel
Engineering

Then she finds a comfortable place to sit with a soda and a programming project projected into the air for her to poke at, and waits.]

iv. waterfight
[Oh, here's where the fun happens.

Decked in a purple tank top over a swimsuit and baggy swim shorts (purchased just for this!), Pidge is ready for action. Her best strategy is to pick a good hiding place, wait until she spots a hapless orange, and then pelt them in a quick attack before ducking away, making use of crowds, attractions, decorations, anything she can for cover.]

Gift Fountain (Hair Color: Bubblegum Pink)
Lola looked at the small black and grey leapard print backpack in her hands. The bag is completely empty, it's a nothing item that could have come from anywhere, but she's looking at the little nicks and stains and wear that an item gets from owning it a long time and she's... smiling.

She's just sitting near the fountain with her box that held a bag and she's smiling like this is the best thing ever.
Amusement Park (Hair color: Aqua Blue)
Lola's never one to shy away from sun, water, and some time off. She prefers the beach but the beach would probably have a loch ness monster or whatever. So a water park will do, plus they have rides! And that makes a lot of difference. Lola's not the least bit shy in a bikini with maybe a pair of shorts as well.

Sunglasses to shade her eyes from the sun she wanders around watching the rides and activities, and occasionally she'll find someone she feels she has to talk to and points out a ride, "Have you gone on that one yet?"
Waterfight (Hair Color: Orange)
Lola, while she's in the park wide water fight, is a bit of an odd sight. She has a pair of pistols a bit too large for her, and she's in a bikini with a crop top of her Orange team color. Not normally her color but she's making it work.

Oh yeah, she's also wearing a pair of white boots with a slight heel, covered in tiny pink gemstones. The boots do not go with anything else. And for Lola that should be a sign that something is very off about things. She always makes things work. Of course the boots make more sense when she manages to jump away from most fights like she was Spring-Heeled Jack.

Laughing and having fun firing water shots at anyone else playing. Stealth isn't really Lola's thing, nothing about her suggests that right?

i. gift fountain part 1.

[Alex loves getting gifts, and if you think that she's not going to practically bouncing over to the fountain when someone tells her to touch it, well, you don't know Alex. Grinning broadly, as if this is the coolest thing that she's seen in a while, Alex leans forward and she brushes her fingers across the water, watching as a blue and green box floats towards her.

When it opens, her mouth dropped open in return, and Alex let out a rather loud squeak, and coupled it with an:
] Oh my god!

[The digital recorder inside is a bit battered and has seen worse for the wear from how many times she'd dropped it when running around doing something stupid, but it was definitely her own, judging from the slightly faded and grubby PNWS logo sticker on it. After a second, Alex rewinds the digital recording, and hits play and then she just hears a familiar voice, her own at that saying "Don't go." Before she quickly turns it off, color in her face. Still, with all of that, she looks happy as she slips it into her purse.]

Gift fountain part 2.

[Alex has sort of parked herself near the fountain, sitting in a chair in a sundress and drinking an iced coffee. She's wearing a sunhat, and next to her, she's got an overly large, overly packed straw bag next to her, and inside it, she's got a fair amount of gifts, not just for the people that she knows, but for anyone who looks like they need one, honestly. They're assorted shapes and sizes and wrapping paper, but if someone looks like they need a gift, they get one.]

Water fight!

[Alex Reagan is originally from Vancouver, and she was living in Seattle before she came here. Being as both places can be really typically rainy, Alex is out enjoying the amusement park and the water fight that comes with it. She's wearing a bathing suit, but with a tank top over it that says 'In my defense, I was left unsupervised.' She's also wearing a purple flag from her shoulder, and she's hefting a balloon in each hand. She knows that she can try for a water gun, but honestly, Alex is fine just doing this like this.

Guerilla warfare is way more fun. Her aim isn't perfect, but it tends to be pretty good, and when she takes a balloon in return, Alex just giggles like an idiot.
]

Amusement park musings.

[Once upon a time when Alex was doing research for her show, she found an absurd amount of people thought that amusement parks were creepy. Most things she could see the creepy factor in them (chart it up to an overabundance of imagination or what not) but when she was actually here and caught up in the carnival-like atmosphere, Alex couldn't see it. She'd changed out of her wet clothing when the water fight was done, and instead was wearing a sundress and a pair of sandals that are completely absurd with strawberries for a strap. She can be found eating some absurdly pink cotton candy, or just wandering about playing games.]

Wildcard. Office mates.

[Alex was used to being mostly alone in the offices at the Riverview News Service, and honestly, she quite liked it for the most part. When she needed noise, Alex Reagan just decamped to a coffee shop before coming back here to work in the relative silence of her office. But when she heard that there was someone else assigned to the spaces there, she just headed over to knock on his door, carrying two cups of decent black coffee in paper cups in her hands. After all, if she was going to warn someone about the coffee machine, it was only fair to bring him some actual good coffee to replace it. Bumping her elbow on the door, Alex just said quickly, in her chipper, canadian accented ready for radio voice:]

Knock knock!

Admittedly, he's curious about the sheer variety of things people get in their boxes, although he's not nosy - he's content to look on from a bench instead of getting up in someone's business. If your character wants to give him a gift, this would be a good time although I'm That Lazy Person handwaving all their prijata gifts oops.

[With the arrival of summer, Sam is all about that water fighting life. He's decked out with guns - a larger one is strapped over his back, and he has a pair of decent-sized pistols in both hands. He's running around in just a pair of swim trunks, a purple bandanna tied around his bicep. He doesn't care much about teams or winning, he's just out here to get thoroughly soaked.

Which doesn't mean that he isn't about to ambush your character from around the corner of a building, going into a roll before he crouches and fires with his pistols. You see, Bernkastel combed every video, voice, and friendr post she had access to (read: if you want to have a cat based off of you) and conjured cats that mimic just about everyone in Riverview. Tall tabbies, short birmans, sassy orange cats with nothing to lose-- the whole gambit. Bernkastel herself is in her usual dress sipping tea that a small void occasionally opens up to refill.

This is her fun and kind gesture, everyone.

-1: Gift Fountain-

Kohaku had just finished the orientation tour, but was still feeling lost as HELL. Fortunately, she had a solution to that. She found a busy spot in the city, near some fountain full of packages for some reason, and found an out of the way spot to sit down. Then she closed her eyes and tuned her senses up.

In this state, she could hear every whispered conversation, taste the chemicals in the air, smell the mood in people's sweat, and generally feel the atmosphere of the world around her. It would be impossible for one person to sort through the amount of information she was getting, but if she let it flow over and through her she could still get a sort of overall tone of what kind of place this was. It was a place where people were...slightly wary, but also full of people who were happy and accepting of others. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all...

From the outside, of course, this looked merely like a Japanese teen of indeterminate gender just kind of sitting there with their eyes closed. Were they napping? Why did they have a backpack with a sword hanging off of it? Were they alright? Did they need help?

-2: Speed Friending-

Kohaku radiated an aura of caution and reluctance, as she slowly filled out the little questionnaire. From wherever you were sitting, you could hear her ask no less than three variations of the same question to the person running this speed-friending event: "And you're absolutely positively sure this is just about making friends, and not about dating, right? You're SURE."

She said "dating" the the same amount of disdain someone else might say "dandruff".

Her listed interested were:
- Video Games
- Cooking
- Techno Music

-3: Carnival Games-

Kohaku wandered through the amusement park alongside you for the moment, peering at each carnival game she passed with an intent expression. To a normal person, it was well hidden, but to someone with Kohaku's senses it wasn't hard to pick them out.

Allura had a LOT of complaints right now. Really, just one big one that had to do about being stuck in another dimension while the Voltron Coalition still needed her.

That was forgotten for the moment. She was standing at the edge of the fountain, struggling to contain tears as she stared in disbelief at what her one present had contained: A small pot from which a single juniberry flower was growing. She had quietly resigned herself to never seeing one again, just as she had resigned herself to never seeing Altea again. The sudden reminder of everything she had lost was almost too much to bear.

Almost.

-2: Amusement Park-

Somewhat later, a much less emotionally compromised Allura explored the amusement park. She knew a few humans, but she had never been to a human city before. Even if this wasn't the planet the rest of the Paladins had come from, it was still a chance to learn more about the kind of people her friends had grown up with. She wasn't sure what the cheap orange hat had to do with anything, but she was sure she would figure out soon enough!

Ten minutes later, Allura was soaked to the bone and her dress was plastered to her skin, but she had also learned a bit more about humans. This was a war game, and so she resolved to treat it as such!

If you're a member of the purple team, you better be ready to get ambushed by an Altean princess dual wielding squirt guns while yelling a lot!

[It's interesting to see people coming up to the fountain watching as boxes suddenly appeared, carrying something tiny and precious. Rey remembers the ice maze and how it held something special for her then. It's...a mysterious and albeit frustrating thing. To have items from their home world come to them, but they couldn't go back to it. Even though they sorely needed to. This place....as nice as it was, it couldn't be her home, not with the galaxy at stake.

Not with how much the Resistance lost.

Still...she was curious and approached the fountain, her hand dipping into the water. Slowly, she withdrew her hand and a box came floating over to her. Reaching for it, the box opened up to reveal a tiny spinebarrel plant. It's dried out, but it's a reminder of what's happened and how far she's come.]

ii [speed-friending]

[Why is Rey doing this? She already has enough friends--at least that's what she's telling herself. Though...it wouldn't hurt to do something more? To learn more about the others here...

And to keep herself from working so much.

So she's basically put what she's interested in: Piloting space ships, technology and science, and mechanical tinkering.

Hopefully...this will go well.]

[The picture that comes in her gift box is — unfamiliar. It's so foreign that she's almost completely sure it belongs to someone else, and that it's just a mistake it came over to her. She picks up the slightly aged black and white photograph, turning it over in her hands. A pretty smiling girl of hispanic descent looks at ease. There's nothing on the back of the photo. But the paper it's paperclipped to has something familiar on it:

Transigen's company logo, followed by a short listing of documentation. There's not very much, just a clip of whatever it came out of, but... It stops her cold. SUBJECT X-23ARB, CARRIER OF: X23-23, AGE 25, ORIGINS: TOLUCA, MEXICO. DECEASED. There is a section that talks about a healthy birth. A section about the woman's genetics. There's no name — and yet her identity is so instantly revealed in that moment, Laura forgets to breathe.

She had thought about it before. She'd seen the other children with their mothers, and even before Riverview, she'd yearned to know who it was who conceived her — la madre de Laura. She wanders absently away from the fountain with misty eyes, not looking at her surroundings as she stares deeply into the lively face of a woman who likely died many, many years ago. The word is so unusual, she can't even bring herself to say it; it took her Logan's dying breath to call him what he was.

And now... Mommy.

She was gifted a picture of her mother.]

[In less depressing news, Laura also does the speed-friend thing hosted at the local diner. Don't worry, Linda the caseworker is sticking around the area, making sure things don't go terribly (for the people Laura attempts to friend, more than anything, lbr). Laura has filled out her tiny paper and seems not too worried, ordering herself a huge plate of pancakes and starting the heavy undertaking of putting everything remotely sweet on them.

[ Wally feels like a little kid on Christmas morning when a box appears out of the fountain and makes it's way towards him. He loved the gift the fountain bestowed upon him the last time, a photo of him and his friends from their Teen Titans days, and is ready to cherish whatever piece of home is hidden inside this time.

Though he has to admit he wasn't expecting the gift to be a simple piece of paper that has been folded so it fit inside the box.

He's perplexed at first, but after a quick unfolding, it is revealed the gift is actually a drawing of the Flash he made when he was about ten. You can tell it's his by the way his name is messily scrawled at the bottom right of the page.

He can't be entirely sure, having drawn hundreds of such pictures back then, but he believes this drawing is the one he was working on when his parents told him he'd be staying with his Aunt Iris in Central City for the summer. That summer changed his life for the better in ways he never could have imagined.

A soft chuckle eventually escapes his lips, before he turns to the person closest to him, and proudly holds up the drawing for them to see.
]

What do you think? Is it refrigerator worthy?

ii. speed-friending

[ It dawns on Wally that he has officially been in the Quarantine for a year when he discovers the coffee shop he frequents is once again holding their general speed-friending event for Prijata. He remembers stumbling in shortly after he arrived on this strange moon looking for a cup of joe and practically being forced to sign up if he wanted it.

He figures it's only fitting to take part again in some sort of celebration of his one-year anniversary. And, well, he really wants his late morning coffee.

So with a cup of coffee in hand and an inviting smile gracing his lips, he finds himself perfectly at ease as he sits at the designated table after filling out the appropriate information such as his name and a list of incredibly generic interests (food, movies, running, exploring) for the questionnaire. Hey, he never claimed to be the most interesting of people.
]

iv. waterfight

[ Team Orange finds themselves acquiring the services of a super speedster in this battle for water balloon supremacy. But in the spirit of fair play, Wally chooses to go about it all normal-like assuming those he goes up against abide by the same code.

That means relying more on stealthily sneaking up on members of the opposing team rather than a straightforward assault. It's a tactic that makes him an easy target as he is terrible at being all stealthy.

Of course, he is willing to forgo his no powers philosophy should he happen to come across those he knows in an attempt to avoid their attacks. There's really no sense in having these fancy powers of his if he can't showoff against his friends and talk shit while he does it.
