prijata

In the days leading up to June 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Prijata. Riverview Quarantine has a strong culture of love, and they celebrate all types - Prijata is a special celebration of platonic love and building community through friendship. Prijata traditions include gift exchanges between friends, sharing meals cooked together by friend groups, and a variety of events and services aimed at making friends.

a celebration of platonic love

Prijata is a relatively relaxed holiday, focused mainly on friendship and platonic love - dedicated to appreciating the friends already in one's life, and opening oneself up to making new friends. Besides the private giving of gifts between friends, there is also a city-wide government-sponsored gift fountain that is open throughout the entire month. Included in the wide variety of events catered to finding new friends, are 'speed friending' and a large open exhibition where all the specialized clubs in Riverview can recruit for new members - and residents new or old can create a club and recruit.

i. gift fountain

While Prijata gift exchanges between friends are generally a quiet affair, done at friend-group dinners or parties, the element of gift giving does extend outward - community-wide, in fact. Throughout the course of the month, anyone living in Riverview Quarantine can drop by the huge fountain in the City Center, in front of the City Hall. They will find that the fountain is chock full of floating gift boxes in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and different shapes - though none larger than a shoe box. There are signs put up around the fountain stating that the boxes are magic and will only seek and open for their rightful owners. Characters will find that, upon touching the water, a box will float over to them, and when they pick it up, the top will unfurl like flower petals, displaying the gift inside. Sometimes, the box won't appear on the first try, since there's only so much space in the fountain at any given time, but if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Every person in the city (including new arrivals) will receive one gift by the end of the month.

Gift fountain boxes will contain one small item from each character's home dimension (or, for CRAUs, from their previous game), similar to the "items from home" bonus reward, but without needing to spend points. The item should be small enough to fit in a shoebox, sentimental, and cannot be something intended for another person's character. If you can't think of an item like this that would work for your character, something of similar size and quality to what's described above that would make the character very happy can be substituted.

This prompt can also be used for gift exchanges and for characters to receive the Government-given gifts that were suggested in the Prijata Pregaming post on the meme community. Any newly apped character is welcome to post on the meme entry as soon as they're accepted, and will be linked to it in this month's acceptance notification, so to all you pre-existing players please keep looking at the Prijata Pregame meme throughout app week and afterward to help give new arrivals a warm friendly welcome!

ii. speed-friending

This is pretty much what it says on the tin! Much like speed-dating setups, many bars, coffee shops, and other places that people might gather are holding speed-friending! It's your standard setup - characters enter and fill out a quick questionnaire about themselves, and flit from table to table looking for someone with great friend chemistry. Not all of them are general and open to anyone who walks in, though, with many being specialized to people who are invested in certain hobbies, occupations, or with specific sets of interests. With specialized speed-friending setups ranging from horror movie buffs to members of the Perimeter Guard to fashionistas to sports or martial arts to video games, no matter what your character is into, they're likely to be able to sign up for a special event where they can go looking for a friend who's into the same things they are!

For this prompt, you can put up a list of hobbies or interests your character has, and compatible characters can hit them up for a speed-friending thread, like the IC equivalent of the CR meme!

iii. club exhibition

Speed-friending is all well and good, but not everyone is outgoing or open enough to know if they have friend chemistry in only a few minutes. For anyone looking to find groups of like-minded individuals they can spend more than a few minutes with before committing to something as daunting as a friendship, there is a month-long club exhibition happening in the Town Square in the City Center. Table after table and booth after booth are occupied by existing clubs in the city, with an incredibly broad scope of focus interests and hobbies - enough that any character should be able to find a club with their niche interest represented.

And if it isn't? Characters are welcome to start their own clubs - much like a business, a character-run club can have space set aside in the city for meetings and event mingles that are eligible for Activity Point Bonuses for the organizer.

iv. amusement park & waterfight

Remember the Amusement Park that citizens of the city were working together to clean up and power up a couple of months ago? Well, the endeavor has proven to be a success, and after a lot of hard work and technical expertise, the amusement park is up and running! For the first two weeks of June, admission will be free to honor those who helped make the park usable.

Sporting just about any amusement park ride you can think of, from kiddie rides, merry-go-rounds, and ferris wheels to high-speed roller coasters and more extreme rides for the thrill-seekers, the park takes it a step further by adding in a lot of different high-tech attractions not available at conventional amusement parks. It has banks and banks of VR simulators that allow park-goers to enjoy a variety of adventures and scenarios, or join shared mutual worlds with other users to explore or take out their aggression with a VR first-person shooter. There are also rows and rows of typical carnival games, some heavily rigged and some not, with prizes ranging from dollar store trinkets to stuffed animals to bits of advanced tech.

For the month of grand opening, though, the amusement park is offering a couple interesting events - a naming contest for the park, and a park-wide water fight.

The water fight is opt-in, with participants signing up and being given a purple or orange flag, tank top, or cap to wear marking them as to which team they're part of. There are buckets of water balloons around the park that are constantly being refilled by staff, and water fighters can participate in special target practice games to win the use of a watergun for the duration of the day - how big your watergun is depends on how well you do in the game! Ultimately, there aren't any real winners or losers, because the point is to get wet in the brand new summer heat, but it's always more fun to cool off with a bit of competition involved, right?

The naming contest is another story. Anyone who visits the park is welcome to think up a name for the park, and all entries will be listed on a large LED board. Every customer who enters the park is invited to vote for their favorite name, and the name with the most votes wins! To submit either an in-character suggestion or a suggestion from yourself as a player, hit up the thread below with a new top-level; whether or not you have a neat idea, place a vote for your favorite! Votes are one per player; suggestions are one per character.

v. roommates or wildcard

Feel free to use this prompt to set up headers for a communal floor, or threads open to roommates for the purpose of getting to know each other. Or if you have an idea for a prompt that isn't in this list, set during Prijata, feel free to write it up!

It's cool, dude.

[ He sounds like he means it, too. The situations sucks, sure - it's not a great feeling, looking at Magnus's familiar face and seeing no recognition at all in it - but Cisco isn't about to go blaming Magnus. ]

Look, I can go if you want... I mean, I know it's gotta be weird that I'm this total stranger who- who remembers all this stuff we did together only you didn't do any of that as far as you remember, and if that skeeves you out too much to wanna hang out with me I totally get it, but I was just hoping-

[ Cisco rubs at the back of his neck, some of his momentum and his enthusiasm dimming. Because what if things don't work out this second time around? Hell, half the time Cisco has no clue why Taako and Lup and the rest of them want to be friends with him in the first place... ]

I was hoping we could maybe um. Try for friendship, round two?

[ One thing that should immediately be clear about Cisco is that he's not terribly good at hiding what he's feeling, and it's all too obvious from his expression that he's almost painfully earnest and hopeful, and a little nervous that Magnus will take the out that he's given him. ]

[personal profile] armcollector 2018-06-28 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[Magnus is also very bad at hiding what he's feeling. He takes a deep breath, and it's clear on his face: sympathy and guilt. Cisco may have said it's cool, and he does seem to be completely understanding, but Magnus can't help but feel as if he's hurt this person somehow.]

Man, of course I'll be your friend. Again. I love friends. Why would I not want to be friends?? Unless you're some kind of like, cartoonishly evil villain plotting to betray me or something. You're not, right?
franciscoramon: (:D insane incredible life)

[personal profile] franciscoramon 2018-07-04 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Cisco, being Cisco, and encouraged by that swift of course, responds to Magnus in the only possible manner: by breaking out his best melodramatic super villain laugh. Considering the amount of them he's run into, being on Team Flash, and the amount of them he's seen in various TV shows and movies, it's a pretty damn good one. ]

Curses! You've exposed my twisted schemes!

[ He can only keep it up for a minute or so before he's laughing, shaking his head. Teasing is all fun and good, but he realizes he's in a different position to Magnus, here. Cisco knows that he can trust Magnus - the reverse isn't true. And, well. Cisco had never gotten the impression Magnus thought of her as a villain, but he had been betrayed pretty deeply by someone he trusted before, when Lucretia made him and the rest of the crew forget. So, without malice, Cisco explains: ]

Just kidding. I hate cartoonishly evil villains. And I hate the villains that aren't cartoonishly evil but just go around pretending to be regular even more. I mean- I know you only got my word on this, but... I'm not really the betraying type.

[ Cisco doesn't want Magnus to look at him like that - sad and guilty, like he's done something wrong. He wants to make Magnus laugh again, like he used to be able to. To gossip with him and cheer him up and watch him act like an idiot around anything even vaguely canine. ]

Let's see. I guess we gotta start from scratch, huh?

[ There's a temptation, to tell Magnus about the things he'd done with him before, their various in-jokes and adventures. But that would probably be alienating, wouldn't it? Would only emphasize that Magnus doesn't remember any of it. So Cisco pushes his hair back and tries to think where to start. ]

Well, I'm from a different universe, but I'm human, like you. [ A beat. ] Uh, mmmmostly. Anyway, I'm- a mechanical engineer, so basically I design and make machines. Like Lucas Miller but not a dick.

[ Cisco has no qualms about ragging on the guy, based on what Taako had told him. And mentioning him seems to be an easy way to explain his profession, and also show that, yeah, he really does know stuff about Magnus's life. ]

[personal profile] armcollector 2018-07-09 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Oh nooooo!

[He adopts the act of a fainting damsel right on cue, as soon as Cisco announces his villainy. The drama of it all does a lot to assuage any worries he might actually have, behind his jokey breaching of the subject.]

Heh, well, good to know. I'll be counting on you to not betray me, then.

[He listens attentively as Cisco explains himself.]

Oh shit. A good Lucas. We thought it was impossible, but here you are. What do you mean "mostly" human though -- are you part elf or something?
franciscoramon: (:# sidekicks)

[personal profile] franciscoramon 2018-07-12 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
[ Cisco throws back his head to laugh at Magnus's damsel act; partly because it's funny in itself and partly because it's Magnus and it's so good to have him back. He'd always been someone that Cisco could tell right away he could goof around with, be silly with, without being judged or called immature. And it's a relief now and then to just cut loose and be himself without worrying people will look down on him for it. ]

Yeah, Taako told me about his whole deal and like, c'mon, man. What kinda scientist doesn't know that you never fuck with ghosts? This is basic shit.

[ He gives a little sigh when Magnus - quite rightly - asks for clarification. It's a little strange, remembering for a moment how hard it had been for him, telling Magnus about this the first time, even though he knew it wouldn't carry the same weight to someone not from his world. But he's come a long way, since then. So he gives a little shrug and explains: ]

Naw, elves don't exist where I come from. Or dwarves or gnomes or, like, magic. Long story short, there was a big explosion and for weird, science-y reasons it sent out these waves of dark matter that changed some of the people nearby. And I was like, right up in the middle of it, so now I'm something we call a metahuman and that basically means I've got some powers, which are kinda like what you think of as magic but kinda not. I get visions, and stuff. So, like, if I ever just space out, y'know... don't freak out, I'm fine.

[ Of course, that was easier said than done. Cisco knows, just from talking to his friends, that from the outside him going into a vibe can be... unsettling, at best. ]

And I can sorta blast stuff, but I'm not as good at that, yet. And it's not, like, anything compared to the kinda stuff Lup or Taako could do.
armcollector: (those last few frames)

[personal profile] armcollector 2018-07-12 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Part of Magnus almost wants to defend Lucas, but most of him is happy just leaving it at that. Lucas sucks. He sucks because he reminds Magnus of a part of himself that could easily pull the exact same shit, if he had that kind of access to the astral plane. The same part of himself that made the Temporal Chalice. The same part of himself that almost used it, back then.

But he made the choice not to. Apparently that's the difference between him and Lucas Miller.
]

Oh, shit. Visions? Like telling the future and shit? I met a lady once who could tell the future. She'd get all creepy and suddenly talk in a booming voice and be like, "YOU'RE ABOUT TO TRIP AND FALL IN A COW PIIIIEEEE!"

[His Paloma impression could use some work.]

That's pretty cool, though. Sometimes I wish I had magic, too. Or powers or whatever you call it. I'm like the only guy I know without it at this point.
franciscoramon: (:v are you kidding?)

[personal profile] franciscoramon 2018-07-13 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
[ Cisco's never met Paloma, or seen her in a vibe, so he can't tell that the impression is inaccurate. All he knows is that it is funny, and he has a good long laugh at the idea of some old lady (by the sound of it) bellowing ominous statements about inconsequential inconveniences of the future. ]

Yeah, y'know that's exactly how I do it, wow, how'd ya guess?

[ He shakes his head then, smiling broadly: ]

Naw, I don't really do the booming voice thing. I guess maybe it looks a little creepy, but I mostly just kinda stand there. And it's not really the future all the time. Like, I see stuff from the present and the past, too. Still kinda working on learning how to control it.

[ But at least he has a better handle on it than he did a year ago, when he first showed up here. Small progress is better than no progress at all. And some of that progress is what lets Cisco shrug and admit, frankly: ]

Man, I was just the opposite. I hated this powers shit for a long-ass time. Woulda done anything to get rid of it. I- still feel like that from time to time, but not so often, anymore.

[ Then, because he doesn't really want to get into why he'd felt that way, since it's all pretty messy and emotional and personal and not very fun conversational content, he swerves towards something a little more humorous: ]

And don't front, I totally saw you talk to a bear once, and I don't care what you say, bruh, that's definitely gotta be some kinda magic.

armcollector: (in your childs mind)

[personal profile] armcollector 2018-07-13 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh.

[It's all very interesting, hearing Cisco describe his power. At the very least, it lets him know what to look out for. And it prepares him to be totally caught off guard when Cisco inevitably becomes more insightful than simply knowing him the last time he was here would explain.]

Maybe you should try out the booming voice thing, see how you feel about it. It's pretty intimidating.

[Magnus is about to respond to Cisco's reservations about his own power as well, say something about how he should be proud of it, but the other man quickly changes the subject before he gets the chance, effectively distracting him. He bursts out laughing at the comment about the bear, who he can only assume means the Power Bear.]

No, dude, that was definitely not magic! Some animals just have their own language! I could teach you if you really wanted. It'd just be completely useless here without the same animals from that world.

[Finger guns. Useless talents ahoy. Magnus speaks Elvish and some far off world's Animalese.]
franciscoramon: (:D sunbeam)

[personal profile] franciscoramon 2018-07-22 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[ It feels good, to make Magnus laugh, to hear him laughing again. Cisco can't help but join in, noticing that they are getting a couple of glances from the people around them and not caring in the least. The face he makes when Magnus continues to insist that talking to animals is not magic is very skeptical, but he doesn't speak until Magnus is done making his offer. ]

Alright, Dr. Doolittle, whatever you say. But I think I'm gonna pass on the bear lessons for now, 'cause I feel like the end of that fun training montage is you introducing me to a grizzly and telling me to ask him where the library is and I have got enough on my plate this month without adding a mauling.

[ He notices there are people still sending them looks, even though they aren't really being loud anymore, and a moment later it sinks in why. In his delight at seeing Magnus again, Cisco had entirely forgotten that this event is set up for speed-friending. People are supposed to switch places after a set amount of time, are supposed to maintain a flow of people from place to place. But he'd just sat down and monopolized Magnus and disrupted all that clockwork: ]

Whoops... feel like I'm kinda gettin' in the way, here. Look, why don't I let you keep meeting other fun dog lovers and we can grab lunch sometime without all the-

[ And he gestures around them, to indicate the event as a whole. Cisco's smile is bright and beaming, and he can't resist clapping Magnus on the shoulder and saying: ]

It's awesome to see you again, buddy.
armcollector: (in the hopes that you will learn)

[personal profile] armcollector 2018-08-03 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
Oh shit.

[Yeah, there's definitely people wanting the whole set up to move along already. Magnus laughs again, a little sheepishly.]

Yeah, I guess we're kinda here for a reason and all. I'll hit you up later, promise. Nice to meet you again, sorta!
