prijata

In the days leading up to June 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Prijata. Riverview Quarantine has a strong culture of love, and they celebrate all types - Prijata is a special celebration of platonic love and building community through friendship. Prijata traditions include gift exchanges between friends, sharing meals cooked together by friend groups, and a variety of events and services aimed at making friends.

a celebration of platonic love

Prijata is a relatively relaxed holiday, focused mainly on friendship and platonic love - dedicated to appreciating the friends already in one's life, and opening oneself up to making new friends. Besides the private giving of gifts between friends, there is also a city-wide government-sponsored gift fountain that is open throughout the entire month. Included in the wide variety of events catered to finding new friends, are 'speed friending' and a large open exhibition where all the specialized clubs in Riverview can recruit for new members - and residents new or old can create a club and recruit.

i. gift fountain

While Prijata gift exchanges between friends are generally a quiet affair, done at friend-group dinners or parties, the element of gift giving does extend outward - community-wide, in fact. Throughout the course of the month, anyone living in Riverview Quarantine can drop by the huge fountain in the City Center, in front of the City Hall. They will find that the fountain is chock full of floating gift boxes in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and different shapes - though none larger than a shoe box. There are signs put up around the fountain stating that the boxes are magic and will only seek and open for their rightful owners. Characters will find that, upon touching the water, a box will float over to them, and when they pick it up, the top will unfurl like flower petals, displaying the gift inside. Sometimes, the box won't appear on the first try, since there's only so much space in the fountain at any given time, but if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Every person in the city (including new arrivals) will receive one gift by the end of the month.

Gift fountain boxes will contain one small item from each character's home dimension (or, for CRAUs, from their previous game), similar to the "items from home" bonus reward, but without needing to spend points. The item should be small enough to fit in a shoebox, sentimental, and cannot be something intended for another person's character. If you can't think of an item like this that would work for your character, something of similar size and quality to what's described above that would make the character very happy can be substituted.

This prompt can also be used for gift exchanges and for characters to receive the Government-given gifts that were suggested in the Prijata Pregaming post on the meme community. Any newly apped character is welcome to post on the meme entry as soon as they're accepted, and will be linked to it in this month's acceptance notification, so to all you pre-existing players please keep looking at the Prijata Pregame meme throughout app week and afterward to help give new arrivals a warm friendly welcome!

ii. speed-friending

This is pretty much what it says on the tin! Much like speed-dating setups, many bars, coffee shops, and other places that people might gather are holding speed-friending! It's your standard setup - characters enter and fill out a quick questionnaire about themselves, and flit from table to table looking for someone with great friend chemistry. Not all of them are general and open to anyone who walks in, though, with many being specialized to people who are invested in certain hobbies, occupations, or with specific sets of interests. With specialized speed-friending setups ranging from horror movie buffs to members of the Perimeter Guard to fashionistas to sports or martial arts to video games, no matter what your character is into, they're likely to be able to sign up for a special event where they can go looking for a friend who's into the same things they are!

For this prompt, you can put up a list of hobbies or interests your character has, and compatible characters can hit them up for a speed-friending thread, like the IC equivalent of the CR meme!

iii. club exhibition

Speed-friending is all well and good, but not everyone is outgoing or open enough to know if they have friend chemistry in only a few minutes. For anyone looking to find groups of like-minded individuals they can spend more than a few minutes with before committing to something as daunting as a friendship, there is a month-long club exhibition happening in the Town Square in the City Center. Table after table and booth after booth are occupied by existing clubs in the city, with an incredibly broad scope of focus interests and hobbies - enough that any character should be able to find a club with their niche interest represented.

And if it isn't? Characters are welcome to start their own clubs - much like a business, a character-run club can have space set aside in the city for meetings and event mingles that are eligible for Activity Point Bonuses for the organizer.

iv. amusement park & waterfight

Remember the Amusement Park that citizens of the city were working together to clean up and power up a couple of months ago? Well, the endeavor has proven to be a success, and after a lot of hard work and technical expertise, the amusement park is up and running! For the first two weeks of June, admission will be free to honor those who helped make the park usable.

Sporting just about any amusement park ride you can think of, from kiddie rides, merry-go-rounds, and ferris wheels to high-speed roller coasters and more extreme rides for the thrill-seekers, the park takes it a step further by adding in a lot of different high-tech attractions not available at conventional amusement parks. It has banks and banks of VR simulators that allow park-goers to enjoy a variety of adventures and scenarios, or join shared mutual worlds with other users to explore or take out their aggression with a VR first-person shooter. There are also rows and rows of typical carnival games, some heavily rigged and some not, with prizes ranging from dollar store trinkets to stuffed animals to bits of advanced tech.

For the month of grand opening, though, the amusement park is offering a couple interesting events - a naming contest for the park, and a park-wide water fight.

The water fight is opt-in, with participants signing up and being given a purple or orange flag, tank top, or cap to wear marking them as to which team they're part of. There are buckets of water balloons around the park that are constantly being refilled by staff, and water fighters can participate in special target practice games to win the use of a watergun for the duration of the day - how big your watergun is depends on how well you do in the game! Ultimately, there aren't any real winners or losers, because the point is to get wet in the brand new summer heat, but it's always more fun to cool off with a bit of competition involved, right?

The naming contest is another story. Anyone who visits the park is welcome to think up a name for the park, and all entries will be listed on a large LED board. Every customer who enters the park is invited to vote for their favorite name, and the name with the most votes wins! To submit either an in-character suggestion or a suggestion from yourself as a player, hit up the thread below with a new top-level; whether or not you have a neat idea, place a vote for your favorite! Votes are one per player; suggestions are one per character.

v. roommates or wildcard

Feel free to use this prompt to set up headers for a communal floor, or threads open to roommates for the purpose of getting to know each other. Or if you have an idea for a prompt that isn't in this list, set during Prijata, feel free to write it up!

gift fountain.

[ It's not like he's expecting much... Yuri doesn't have more than the clothes on his back to start with and a single room back in the lower quarter. He wasn't materialistic and he didn't have a lot he held dear. When he touches a box that blooms at his finger tips, he's surprised to see anything in it at all. He thought he'd get pranked, honestly.

Instead he pulls out a piece of paper and doesn't hesitate. He crumples it up and pitches it across the fountain.

Do you pick it up before it reaches the water?? ]

watergun/wildcard.

[ Yuri's laying nearby the watergun fight on a little hill of warm grass and a nice breeze. It might have gotten hotter here, but he's still intent to chill with his wolf-dog nearby. Occasionally, he opens his eyes to see a few people fight before settling back into comfort, but the moment someone like you turns their gun on him--

He whips out a bright green water pistol and aims. ]

Don't make me do something we'll both regret!

[ He says it cheerfully. ]

i. gift fountain

[Honestly, who doesn't like receiving gifts? Well, Dorian really, if they're presented in person. This fountain, though, draws his curiosity. Floating, water-tight packages enchanted to find their intended recipient? How could he refuse? Once the sides have cleared, he approaches the water, smiling at the magnificence of the thing first, before touching the water gently. At first, nothing happens and he does his model best to hide his disappointment, but then a brilliant purple package forces itself through the throng of other boxes and makes it way to him, unfurling in a thoroughly necessary flourish he's momentarily jealous he didn't contrive.

His brow furrows in nostalgia at the reveal though, for within is a small carved wooden duck on wheels with brass accents and a leather thong at the front, made to be pulled behind an excited child, and with a lid so as to hold his little treasures. He picks up the duck and looks at it, mindless really of anyone who might be watching. And then he smiles.
]

Serrah Anatis. What a surprise to find you here.

iii. club exhibition

[In the past few months, Dorian has tried to embrace the life of a Quarantine native, and so he's to be found perusing the stalls exhibiting the various clubs currently looking for new members at various points throughout the month. Most of them aren't attractive to him, but he does stop at one stall advertising a book club. Promising, right?

Wrong. He makes a disgusted sound as he turns to leave.
]

If I wanted to sit around and discuss the latest bodice-ripper, I'd join a knitting club.

i. fountain
Harry watches the goings-on around the fountain for a while before asking someone what's going on; having had the matter explained, he finally approaches and dips hesitant fingers into the water.

A burgundy-and-gold package floats up to him. He looks around—for me? really?—and concluding that it must indeed be his, he scoops it up and finds within a book: On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life by Charles Darwin.

His eyes widen. Darwin! He has, of course, read The Zoology of the Voyage of H.M.S. Beagle; read it and desired to emulate it himself, in fact. He did not know that the man authored another book. He flips to the title page, noting the publication date: 1859.

His stomach turns, almost with nausea, and his knees feel unsteady. He steps away from the fountain, slowly and deliberately, and sinks down on the nearest bench. He stares into space and grips the book tightly, knowing that if he did not, his hands would be trembling.

ii. speed friending
This method of making acquaintances is very odd, but it does seem efficient. His list includes biology, botany, medicine, exploration, languages, and to those he meets, he introduces himself formally—"Dr Harry Goodsir, at your service"—but declines, at first, to mention that he is now Riverview's new coroner. That seems like it will put people off somewhat, and he can't quite blame them.

iii. club exhibition
Again, Harry is looking for other scientists or medical types, but also for other students. He has enrolled at the university to bring his medical education up-to-date, and he would like to have a friend or two with whom to study.

wildcard
[ Harry will be out and about in the city and starting to attend university classes, and those who work in the hospital will find him settling into the coroner's office. ]

[Tim's newly arrived, but he's already done his fair share of network snooping, enough to know there are people here who might know him - and he's not ready to see anyone yet. Not ready to find out if any of them know he's supposed to be dead. The thing about dying is it's usually final - supposed to be, anyway - so there's no awkward after to contend with. He'd made his peace with his fate in those final moments, and now?

Now, he doesn't want to think about it. Which is fine - he has boot camp to attend, new spaces to navigate, everyday parameters to readjust. If he stays busy, he can distract himself enough to avoid thinking about what happened on top of the tower. That's how it works, right?

So he doesn't expect to see any gifts, doesn't expect any dinner party invitations. He can find work to do instead. Still, he can't resist the pull to investigate the gift fountain. If he brushes his fingertips along the surface of the water, will anything happen?]

v.

[He's set up on Floor 14 of communal housing - mostly minds his own business, but will usually respond in a friendly fashion, if approached. He makes mental case files of the floor's other residents; there's no computer here on which to store data like he's used to maintaining.

Most nights, he doesn't actually sleep, or if he does, it's not for very long. Instead, Tim goes out for runs, exploring the city streets at night and racing shadows across rooftops. He isn't Red Robin here, just Tim Drake, but he still takes care to blend in with the darkness and deaden his footsteps so as not to attract attention.]

a. gift fountain

[Really, Zelda didn't even think of trying to find a box for herself at first. She was happy enough just watching the excited children running up and half-plunging themselves into the water to grab their presents. There is a flicker of sympathy for their poor parents, but it all seems to be in good fun.

Eventually curiosity gets the better of her - what would she find, if a box made its way to her hand? So she peers over the edge and runs her fingers through the water. She bumps into a plain silver box almost immediately, and when it unfurls she can't help the surprise that comes over her face.

She carefully pulls out a blue and white flower, the roots wrapped in fabric. All she can do is stare at it in her hands, undeniably touched.]

Imagine... one of you, finding your way here.

b. speed-friending

[Link was gone. That fact echoes around Zelda's mind all day, though she does her best to put it to the side. It's hard to ignore though, not to mention the fact that for the first time she's truly on her own here in Riverview. When someone presses a flyer into her hand in the street about this 'speed-friending', Zelda can only blame her downcast mood for the fact that she decides to try it.

The questionnaire was fun, at least. Zelda lists her name and interests: archaeology, technology, travelling, computers, embroidery, reading. It's the laundry list of a nerd.

Then, before she loses her nerve, she takes herself into the various events and starts introducing herself to people with a smile. Along with the general friend-making session, she goes to one for teenagers, one for adventuring, and one for technology.]

c. wildcard

[Zelda can be found people-watching around the gift fountain, and occasionally looking through the club exhibitions. If you'd like to track her down for gift-giving, she's at her regular haunts of Gramarye Institute, a park near the river and the shared dormitories.

i. gift fountain.

[ She almost skips out on visiting the fountain. Not out of any particular grudge or particular fear, because it sounds charming enough. Elizabeth just pushes it back for a few days on end, between working and trying to find ways to fill her time with more work. Trying to fill her time in general. Last month's nanite virus was something of a personal uhh. Active terror. She wound up lying low, a bit.

Not to mention it's been about a month now since her arrival. Six weeks is right around the corner. Last time she was away for more than six weeks without knowing, definitively, when she'd be able to get back, she didn't know Atlantis existed, so. It's not her forte.

Atlantis is home.

But let no one say she's not trying to adjust. Time will tell exactly how well adjusting works out.

Elizabeth stands back and observes the fountain for a while, a smile breaking out every time she watches someone open something that leaves them ecstatic. It's the little things sometimes, right? The wind, the sun on your face. The sound of water, and people laughing in the distance.

Eventually she steps up herself, unfolding her arms in order to gently press her fingers to the water. Watches as one of the boxes valiantly struggles through traffic to meet her there. When the top unfurls, she very carefully pulls out... Atlantis. It's small (possibly smaller than pictured, given the shoebox constraints), but the colors are right, the details are right. It looks like it would float if she set it on the water by itself.

It wouldn't be entirely inaccurate to say she looks it over with all the tenderness of a parent holding their child. Her eyes are a touch overbright. She's not sure if this is a low blow or a magic fountain trying its best. ]

ii. speed friending.

[ This week with Elizabeth Weir, it's trying very hard to adjust part 2: electric boogaloo. And she's here with all the interests! Literature, languages, history, political science, exploration, and solitaire. If anyone is hitting specialized groups for politics, she'll probably wind up there, too, in the interest of seeing what happens.

She thinks she might pick up a couple of hobby ideas while she's here, at least, if not a couple of friends. Elizabeth is undeniably interested in chatting with whoever she's sitting down with, if a little bemused by the speed friending experience as a whole. ]

I'm gonna open the floor on "nice to meet you." [ If it's supposed to be a joke, the proof is lost to time. Don't @ her. It's speed friending not speed poetry. She inclines her head. ] Nice to meet you.

Jeff | OTA

[personal profile] bardish 2018-06-05 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
ii. speed-friending
[ Originally, when informed of the speed-friending events, Jeff was pretty adamant in his no, thank yous. These things are just too much pressure. You've got to be interesting and memorable-- but not too memorable, not memorable for the wrong reasons-- and you've got to do it, like, right off the bat. Look, he may not have ever done the whole speed-dating thing before, but he's heard horror stories from some of his co-workers! And this is pretty much the same damn thing, only, y'know, platonic.

What if he met a new buddy, and they had a really great rapport, but then it turned out his new buddy didn't feel the same way about him, and never called him again, and then he'd be left with the sting of rejection, while all the other friends frolicked together and--

And it was a few days of going about with that train of thought that led Jeff to realize: wow, he's desperately lonely here (especially since his daughter, his #1 priority in life and also his main source of socialization outside of work-- oh god he has got to work on that when he gets home-- isn't here, because she's back on Earth and he's trapped on a moon and the only thing that's keeping him from descending into a full-blown panic attack is the fact that, supposedly, he can one day go home with no time missing, and if not, at least she can stay with her mother-- wait, is this aside developing its own aside?). He's lonely, and he could probably use some friends.

So... here he is. HIS INTERESTS AND HOBBIES INCLUDE:

- Talking about/listening to/playing music (not ruling out any genres here!!)
- Recreational (and responsible!) magic use
- Running, hiking, gym
- Movies where the dog doesn't die
- Shaping the hearts and minds of tomorrow's leaders yadda yadda yadda
- 420??
(hastily scribbled out)

And he'll be showing up to various events, such as those for:
- Fellow parents/guardians
- People ages 35+
- Magic users/people with powers
- Fellow educators
- etc
]

iii. club exhibition
[ If he keeps busy, he'll be less likely to do anything stupid, reckless, or otherwise loaded with the potential for disaster. So, that's why Jeff eventually makes some time to check out the club expo thing. He's an amiable guy, so even if he's not remotely interested in a particular club, he'll engage in a little bit of conversation if he's cornered by an enthusiastic club president or hobbyist.

It's fine at first, but man does it get old after a while. He wishes he were better at disengaging. Curse his friendly and agreeable demeanor. He just wants to find the clubs that mesh with his interests! Like... recreational sports, or amateur woodworking (something he has zero experience and barely a passing interest in, but one can always pick up new skills), or any of the stuff listed in the prompt above this one! ]

v. a) gramarye
[ It's nice of the city to hook him up with a job while he's here. Admittedly, though, Jeff was cautious when he was offered a job teaching at the magic school, because there's no way he wants to go full Merlin. Not with the infinite variables that one would have to take into account when teaching magical principles to a student body that spans the multiverse. Maybe somebody with a more scholarly background in magic could do it, but not him. Jeff only ever learned enough to cheaply exploit his gift until he accidentally almost summoned a demon that one time. (Look, he was 21 at the time, cut him some slack.)

Needless to say, the thought of doing magic regularly-- or teaching magic to a group of students-- makes him gunshy.

Thankfully, the teaching gig is more like... mundane subjects. Non-magical subjects, for kids whose gifts made it too difficult to function in a traditional classroom. That, he can do. Honestly, he's looking forward to getting started. This is the kind of job that could make a real impact! A great way to pass his time until he can get back home!

Now he just needs to draft some lesson plans and get to know his colleagues at Gramarye Magic Research. ]

[Kara is wary of this, as she's wary of many things, but curiosity gets the better of her in the end, as well as the faint concern that someone else might be able to lay claim to her 'gift' if she doesn't get it first. Technically that's not possible, but she doesn't know this magic well enough to trust it.

She plans to keep her time at the fountain brief, but the box opens as soon as she touches it and Kara is caught by the medal inside. She's tentative, almost deferential, as she reaches out to pick it up, before her hand closes tightly around the star. There's a few long moments of silence, her hand to her chest now as she fights back a wave of emotions.]

Shit.

[She thought she was better than this.]

amusement park

[This is a distraction, which is exactly what Kara needs.

Games don't usually draw her interest all that much but it's something to think about other than the gift sitting in a drawer in her room. Anything involving aim is her main focus, since she has a good amount of skill in that area and she ends up winning more games than she loses. The rigged ones give her a little more trouble, but there's almost a challenge in them, too, trying to find ways to work around whatever cheating is being done.

Though she has no interest in the prizes handed out, regardless of whether they're trinkets or more interesting tech, so she frequently just shoves the prize at whoever happens to be closest.]

[ A magical fountain that spews gifts enchanted to find their rightful owners? Why, it's something that Keira fancies to see with her own eyes. It's still a little confounding to her; not the fact that magic is this prevalent here, but that it seems so accepted. Or at least well tolerated. Where are the mobs and the religious fanatics out for mage blood? The preachers frothing at the mouth on how magic is evil and will bring about the next apocalypse? If there are dissenters, they seem to be underground. She hasn't been in Riverview long enough to judge with certainty, and the circumstances she'd had the good fortune to escape from have left Keira wary. There must be a catch to this, surely?

So instead of approaching, she settles on simply watching for now, hanging on the outskirts of the great fountain with her arms crossed loosely over her chest. She pays attention to the fountain itself, and the people milling about-- some seem content to observe like she is, others in turn have no qualms about reaching into the water to pull out a package that unfurls in their hands like a flower. Keira admits, it's all very clever. The expressions on people's faces as they take in their gifts are another thing; some are visibly delighted, others clearly distraught.

Keira's own thoughts and expression both turn wistful as she wonders: does she even wish to know which item the fountain would gift her, were she to approach? ]

iv. amusement park
[ Amusement parks are hardly a thing where Keira comes from, so she gives a wide berth to the crazy rides even if she eyes them with evident curiosity. The various carnival games are more familiar to her, and she's decided to try her luck at good old bottle toss. Unfortunately, she picks a booth with a decidedly rigged game. None of the bottles refuse to budge, not even when she hits the formation squarely in the middle with her last ball.

Gasping in mounting outrage, Keira glares at the game attendant and extends a hand, calling up a gentle levitation spell in attempt to see whether the bottles lift at all. They do not. Curling her fingers into a fist, her magic surges and rips the bottles from the base where they'd been glued on, crashing uselessly to the ground.

The attendant immediately throws his hands up in the air and cries out, dismayed, accusing Keira of cheating. The sorceress splutters in outrage, indignant flush spreading to her cheeks as she points an accusing finger at the man. ]

It wasn’t just a shirt either. There was a green vest as well, tucked over it and read ready for display. The sequins were in all the places he remembered. He’d always thought his step dancing uniform was such a gaudy outfit. Like they were trying to compensate for the girls’ dresses and went overboard.

He pressed it against his chest to see if he had a chance of fitting into it. It’d been three, almost four years since he’d last squeezed into the damn thing. Staring down at it, it looked like he’d gained considerable bulk and an inch or two.

He held it out again. Still frowning, he shook his head. “Damn. You couldn’t stay in the fucking closet?” He bent down to grab the box, glancing around to see if anyone had noticed the display

ii. speed-friending

The last time Ronan did this it had been interesting enough. He still wasn’t sure if it was the good kind of the bad, but he showed up again regardless.

He’d written a few things for his hobbies

Street racing
Boxing

And, oddly a single phrase in Latin. In girum imus nocte et consumimur igni. It was of course automatically translated to “we enter the circle at night and are consumed by fire.” But the words in latin were still clear if one focused. It was a simple palindrome, but one he was fond of.

Still feeling oddly hungover from his coma, even though he shouldn’t be, he sipped some coffee and waited. At least he looked less like shit, but close to a month in bed would mess with anyone’s appearance. In Ronan’s case, the most noticeable change was he suddenly had nearly an inch of hair.

In front of him, his raven, Chainsaw, nudged a luminous glass bauble around on the table.

iv. amusement park & water fight

a. the water fight

Instead of a flag or a cap, Ronan got a purple tank top. He put his black top top away in a locker and then he was on his way.

Despite knowing how to use a gun, Ronan was not the best shot. But he was… enthusiastic.

Finding that he’d accidentally and miraculously come up on someone seemingly without being noticed, he yelled. “Hey! Behind you!” And then he pulled his water gun trigger.

Unless he noticed another purple indicator and quickly pulled back his watergun, the person better act before getting super-soaked.

b. after the water fight

Ronan peeled off his purple top and then walked to get back his usual shirt. While his muscles were not inconsiderable from his farm work, what most caught the eye was his now completely exposed tattoo. Black ink sprawled down most of his back, forming shapes that seemed to change-- a vine here, flowers there, a tree, a screaming face…

Ronan grabbed his shirt and pulled it on. Glancing up, he nodded.

“Hey, you want a rematch then first you got to talk me into those dumb fair games.” As if he hadn’t already played them.

[ Listen, the fountain is cute, but— Peter's a little wary of picking up random crap from a mysterious fountain with a bunch of magicked boxes. It's a cool idea? But all the magic crap around Riverview has made him seriously gun shy.

It's why he waits a few moments, watching from a distance as other folks pull boxes with no apparent ill effects. Eventually, he works up the courage to approach, and, glancing around to see how everyone else is doing this, he touches his fingertips to the surface of the water. The box that floats over to him is in an all too obvious Ravager Red, and he wonders how he didn't spot it in the first place.

He plucks it up, and the top unfurls to reveal—

An old troll doll.

He can't help but breathe out a laugh as he plucks it up. ]

If someone decides to peruse his questionnaire, it reads as follows: Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star-Lord. I like good movies, good music, TV, space travel, sci-fi, and I don't know what else to put here honestly. The guy said I'd get a free drink if I filled this out so I did.

He slurps on his far too sugary, far too unhealthy drink before he scowls down at his comm. Apparently he's lost another life. ]

[ Carnival games are a scam. He learned that pretty early on – not at home on Earth, mind you, but with the Ravagers, who infrequently stopped off at pop-up carnivals to "enjoy themselves." Kraglin had shown Peter a few good tricks to game the system ("It ain't cheatin' if they're cheatin' first"), and Peter is apparently making use of it now.

Which is why he's currently carting around a three-feet tall, overstuffed, aggressively cuddly teddy bear. He thrusts it into the closest person's hands. ]

You can have this, if you want.

iv b. waterfight;
[ Judging by his his tank top, Peter is apparently on Team Orange. But, apparently this isn't stopping him from a fair bit of friendly fire, using the big-ass water gun he's apparently earned himself.

Listen. Peter's a maverick. A loose cannon. He plays by his own rules.

And his own rule, apparently, is that if you get within the splash zone, regardless of what side you're on, you're definitely getting wet. Sorry not sorry! ]

I. GIFT FOUNTAIN

[The Tetherer is absolutely delighted by the floating gift boxes around them, looking up at them in sheer wonder. After watching others touch the water, usually with their hands, the Tetherer kicks off their sandals and takes a seat at the fountain's edge, waiting patiently for a box to arrive with their feet in the water.

Eventually, one comes, and they open it with a bit of hesitance, unsure what to expect.

A trinket is inside, a white gold pendant on a long chain, a gift that's found its way to them again. They take a deep breath and pull it over their head, then continue to watch others receive their gifts.
]

IV. AMUSEMENT PARK/WATERFIGHT

[The Tetherer has learned a few things very quickly after donning a purple flag as an ascot. One, they are not very good at aiming. Two, this means they get a dinky gun that has to be refilled constantly. Three, it is very hard to be active in sandals. Four, it's still a very fun game when you're losing.

Still drenched, they start exploring the amusement park proper. They've never been to one, so they definitely want to ride on all the rides, but they're a bit nervous about some of the scarier looking ones. Even a merry-go-round is thrilling when you've never been on one before, though.

I ▹ GIFT FOUNTAIN
[ It's curiosity most of all that takes him to the gift fountain. Last year it gifted him with a scale model of the Enterprise, and he's intrigued by what the city might come up with this time around. For a little while he just walks around the fountain, watching as little boxes float towards other people, looking curiously at what some of them get. He doesn't pry or anything, but if he sees a familiar face standing around, he'll feel more at ease about approaching and asking. ]

Got anything yet?

[ As for him, it takes a little while, but eventually one of those boxes makes its way to him. He's almost excited about what he'll get, and opening the box, he takes out a plain hexagonal base with a control on one of the sides, and a glass-like structure on top. He recognizes what it is, so he clicks one of the buttons, and promptly a hologram of George and Winona Kirk, smiling as they hold each other close, pops up over the structure.

Whatever feeling crawls up his throat gets stuck there, and his smile wanes as his grip tightens on the base. ]
Huh.

IV ▹ AMUSEMENT PARK & WATER FIGHTS
[ Now, this is his idea of fun! Well. To be fair Jim's idea of fun is pretty eclectic. Point is, he's absolutely delighted to hear about the amusement park being open to the public, and after the tough couple of months everyone in the Quarantine has had to go through, some time off seems well overdue. Jim honestly can't even remember actually having any vacation time (either here or at Starfleet)— he should probably start looking into that.

For now, he's all too glad to take a couple of days off to visit the amusement park. He goes with Victor and Lucy, obviously, spending a lot of time going on different rides together, though anything too intense for Victor or Lucy he'll likely go on his own. Jim can also be found on his own exploring various areas of the amusement every so often, participating in booth games, having a snack or some ice cream, and greeting a few familiar faces.

He's also participating in the water fights, of course— purple team simply because he chose at random. ]

V ▹ WILDCARD & GIFT GIVING

After everything that had happened back home, adding this to it had rattled him to the point where he had been quiet and still for over a day.

It brought him back to that frightening place again, and he couldn't be there.

When this... festival thing came around, it was only natural for him to grab onto it like a lifeline and pull himself together - if so only temporary. ]

[ Molly didn't expect much at first, but at least people-watching was interesting anywhere he went - and even more so in a place like this. Curious about this massive city, he wanders the streets for a while until he gets to the city center and the huge fountain there.

It seemed a good place as any to take a break, so Molly shrugs off his overly colorful coat for a moment, folding the scimitars inside. Taking a seat next to the fountain, he runs his fingers through the water to push back some of his hair and wipe away the sweat. What he didn't expect was a box to come greet him, however, and the tiefling curiously opens it.

Inside was a folded poster.

Welcome To The Fletching and Moondrop Traveling Carnival of Curiosities!

A poster from the circus. Of home. ]

iv. amusement park

[ This was like Harvest Close on a really big level, littered with the strange technology and things of this world. Trying one little game of ball toss shook loose the last of this odd ache inside him, and soon Molly was fully enjoying himself.

A few more games and he could pamper himself with a glowing little round bauble he set around his neck with his other necklaces, and an odd thing that made a red beam of light when he clicked a button.

Then he learned about rides, and... well, he wanted to try things at least once. Pardon the screaming tiefling on the rides, he's having a great time as soon as he knows he's not dying horribly.

Then there was the food, that was quite confusing but amazing at once. Who knew dogs could be made into sausage?]

[He knows people have been wandering around this fountain for a little while now and he's quite curious about it all. The gift boxes floating in the water, the sounds of it all. He can't see as well as he once did centuries ago, but he can see well enough to know what he's getting close to and smell something not quite earthy or stony or wooden like the rest of the city has been introduced to him as and feel the air cool as he gets closer. At first, he only wanted to see what it was about, maybe sit at the edge and enjoy it for a little while. But eventually he realizes people touch the water and a gift box moves closer to them.]

[Out of curiosity, ever out of curiosity, he stretches an arm out to brush his fingers in the pool and finds... nothing seems in a hurry to move closer to him. He grins at that and chuckles, not offended in the slightest.]

i. (b) gift fountain
[Regardless of whether or not the fountain provides him with a gift, Undertaker hasn't forgotten the people who mean anything to him, and he has a few gifts of his own to pass on to those people. Jason, Shiro, Vincent, and Ciel have gifts in a little box, waiting for them, if they come across him during the festival! And anyone I might have forgotten! Sorry if I did!]

iii. club exhibition

iv. amusement park & waterfight
[Undertaker has loved carnivals since he was young and human, and he'll certainly have to explore this one at some point while he can during its opening. The thrill of it, the energy in the atmosphere, the excitement. With sight as bad as his is, he won't be able to properly participate in many of the rides and games, none of which he expects to win, but he'll play them anyway and ride a few rides for the sake of it. He can't help himself. Something about places like these makes him feel like a kid again somewhere under it all, though he long left that life behind. And a funnel cake is a must!]

It's heavy and she's got rides to catch.

Since she nearly set things on fire during the tech expo, Lup stays away from the VR stuff, mostly just for everyone else's safety. She does, however, stand and watch the people doing it and try to distract them.

When she's escorted away from that, it's time for that water fight. getting on the orange team, she's quick to hunt down anyone from the opposite team and just smash them with water balloons. A few times she even uses Enlarge on them, tossing ballons the size of a person and giving no fucks about wasting spell slots.

She's loud, bright and relentless, and she's having fun. Just what she needed right now. ]

( the fountain itself does not hold much interest for damian. what does grab his attention is the strange method it seems to choose who is handed which gift; magic is not anything new as far as he's concerned. there are plenty of devils to make deals with and numerous individuals who use their own super human capabilities to preform tasks. he has done plenty of his own studies on magic. this fountain. . doesn't seem to have anyone in particular watching over it, and the idea that someone within the city's government has knowledge enough to choose personal gifts for each of the city's residents is disconcerting.

enough that he doesn't reach his own hand into it, on the off chance skin contact with the water is what gives them the capability of discovering what would have personal significance to someone. instead, damian stands close by, a button down t-shirt and slacks worn in place of the gear he had arrived in.

and holds up a smart phone in his hands, idly tapping away at keys while keeping an eye on others who do approach the fountain. watching for any tells on whose magic is aiding the fountain. )

ii. speed friending

[Even as she's ushered into the coffee shop by an enthusiastic employee, Makoto's wondering what she's doing here. This isn't the sort of thing she'd think to take part in back home but maybe that's the point. She needs to keep broadening her horizons, after all, and while she's not turning her back on the friends she does have here from home, she knows how quickly that can be taken away.

She likes to think she's making other friends, too. But she might as well try here, too.

On her form, she lists her interests as reading, studying, aikido and motorcycles - and she's pretty sure that last one is going to throw off some people, as she knows that's not what people would expect of her.

Perhaps she's hoping that'll make a good ice-breaker. She's not great at those herself. But she can at least latch onto a more expected interest so if someone else has mentioned reading as an interest she'll approach to strike up a conversation.]

So have you read anything good lately?

iii. club exhibition

[Because she's not busy enough already, Makoto makes sure to check out the clubs in case anything catches her eye. There are some that do that she's reluctant to approach, and some she makes mental note of more for her friends than for her, but there is one stall she spends a little longer at.

And once the Aikido club realise she's far from a beginner, they're in no hurry to let her go.

Which is why, over the course of the month, Makoto can be found at the section for the Aikido club as part of the demonstration team. For those who have only seen her her quieter, more responsible side, they might be surprised to recognise her as one of the team performing to draw attention to the club.

And when she's not demonstrating, she's with those who are looking to recruit, approaching anyone who lingers but seems shy about approaching.]

Are you interested in learning self-defence? It's not as scary as it looks.

iv. amusement park

[Amusement parks aren't somewhere Makoto has spent a lot of time, but she feels like she can't miss the opening event for this one - not when she was part of the team clearing it out so it could be rebuilt. Even if she doesn't find much to occupy her, she wants to appreciate the hard work that went into making it functional again.

She steers clear of the carnival games, recalling her first festival here and how rigged they tend to be. Most of her time she tends to spend investigating the VR area - in particular, she finds she has a knack for the first person shooter game that might not be expected of her. As methods of stress relief go, she can think of worse.

She also investigates some of the other rides, watching for the most part but occasionally she'll decide to join in. Especially if she sees someone else on their own at a ride who looks like they might need a little push to try it out.]

You know, I was thinking of trying this one myself. Do you think we've got a better shot at getting on if we go as a pair?

[She's not really sure how this works, honestly.]

v. wildcard - communal housing floor 1 OR university

[Makoto has already accepted that she is more than happy to throw herself into the sharing food aspect of festivals. In part because she's realised that she hasn't really gotten to know the people she lives with and she should probably fix that. Besides, this fits into the gift-giving aspect too, for those she hasn't bought specific gifts for.

And so throughout the month, people living on floor 1 will come home to find Makoto in the kitchen, fixing up a variety of Japanese-style food in batches designed to be shared. She's trying to cater for all tastes, so if someone lets her know they have preferences or allergies then she'll work to fix something for them. She'll also invite her friends who live elsewhere to come over for lunches or dinners, where she knows there won't be many people home, and any left-overs are put aside with a note that anyone living on floor 1 who wants to take some are more than welcome to.

She's also decided that this is a good time to get to know her fellow university students. Which is why anyone who attends or works at the university will see notices throughout the month that they can come to a certain room and share some food. Anyone who wants to help Makoto with this endeavour will be gratefully received, as she won't be present when she has her own classes to attend to, and it's all fairly casual with space for people to bring their own things to share and plenty of boxes for those who don't have time to stay but want something for later.

There's also a corner of the room that's been set up as a study area - Makoto can't make it entirely quiet but she can at least provide for those who want to do some work while they're here. If she's not running around organising things, this is where she's most likely to be found.]

In truth, there was little point in her looking around; instead, she kept an ear out, listing to whoever was possibly walking towards her table.

Club searching

The idea of joining a club took more courage then she thought she had. To join a group of people under a common interest sounded fun, even she had to admit, but she wasn't sure which she would be able to participate in. There was only so much she could discern by keeping an ear out.

She didn't let it discourage her. Besides picking the sounds of people talking, she tried to figure the booths on smell; if there were any clubs for cooking or baking. Anything else, she would have to linger by this booth or that, trying to hear what it was about by the conversations of others. Every once and awhile, she also put her hand out when she felt a table nearby, trying to tell what the club was about from the display on the table.

[Galadriel was curious more than anything else. There was nothing she particularly wanted or needed from home, nothing in particular that she hoped to see. So what, out of thousands of years of her personal history, would this fountain drag into this reality?

It was a question worth answering.

She approached quietly, taking time to look over the fountain itself before skimming her fingers lightly across the surface of the water. A small, deciptively plain package floated toward her, unfurling in her hands to reveal the shine of gold and gems.

It was a necklace - expertly made and undoubtably worth a small fortune, but that's not why Galadriel couldn't tear her eyes away.

Truthfully, her first instinct was to fling it back into the fountain, but once she realized that there was no Silmaril attached that changed. It was, once more, as it was intended be- a necklace of surpasing beauty, made for her beloved older brother.

She smiled fondly, tracing over the designs with her fingers.]

Perhaps someday I may return it.

Describing her interests was another problem altogether; when you're thousands of years old, you tend to have a lot of hobbies. In the end, she ended up with a somewhat eclectic but rather interesting list. Politics and diplomacy, history, languages, music and poetry, gardening, healing, and magic all feature on it. She had to stop there before her answer just got ridiculously long.

So, there she was, sticking out like a sore thumb (when is a 6'4" elven woman not going to stand out?), but pleasant enough and more than happy to speak to anyone who approaches her.]

Well, she doesn't have a gun, and her aim isn't even that spectacular, but she does have a bucket of water balloons at her disposal, and she is ready to use them! The idea of a play fight with balloons filled with water is delightfully new to her, but the game seems simple enough.

Spotting someone in orange, Mantis simply follows the game's rules and throws one of her balloons at the target! Or maybe it's at the person next to the target who may or may not even be playing, close enough! ]
