[There's a too sharp response on the tip of his tongue (it's not his fault he lost a decade of time to practice), but Loki's question cuts him off, which is probably for the best.]
You know, I'd say 'no murder' but I dunno if that's a worry for you too.
She's going to start off with the ol' favourite: shield of faith. It's a low-level spell, but one that Lucretia has slowly moulded over time into something unique, more benefiting her needs. It expands around her like a bubble, translucent except for the odd, pearlescent shimmer.
What kind of magic is Loki using anyway? Has she ever asked?)
[ Smagic. Or whatever the Asgardian equivalent is. Despite his attire, Loki doesn't go fancy for his first blow. The magic rolls off the barrier like a wave, nothing too powerful. Loki himself doesn't seem to do any gestures or say any words. All that is noticeable is the slight glow around his fingers. Either way, it doesn't do much on the shield except add a little pressure. ]
Loki's starting out slow, obviously, matching her pace. Whatever his magic is it's undeniably powerful, she'll give him that. She can feel the energy ripple across her shield and then hold there, like trying to force its way in. Lucretia frowns, and seals everything over anew in reply, casting from a higher level to make the shield stronger.
Honestly it's strange that he doesn't make any obvious movements or say any words. She's too used to elves who yell their spells.)
[ Loki seems unfazed. He usually has a basic shield on him at all times (mostly for projectile weapons), so he was mostly feeling it out. He works better with mind games and illusions rather than raw power, even if he is capable. Slowly, he starts building up the pressure. There's an imperceptible hum as the magic slams itself against the shield.]
The pressure increases in increments, but quickly enough that Lucretia can feel the shield going. The moment it starts to bow she steps neatly back from within it, and watches Loki's magic collapse it into nothing. She stares at the spot where it was, then pulls out her notebook and starts to write.)
(He is talking about an insane amount of magical power with such offhandedness! Lucretia frowns, writes LOKI PLEASE underneath everything she's just penned, and underlines it twice. The notebook goes safely back into her pocket.)
Okay. Again? (Taking it up a notch now. This time, the spell is globe of invulnerability (Taakos, don't interact), which has a much larger radius than the shield before it- and she's going to cast it from a seventh level slot. She has no idea where Loki's magic falls in terms of spellcasting levels, but this shield will automatically block anything that's not up to scratch.)
[ Look, he's lost on spell slots and levels, okay? But he eyes that globe skeptically. That might seem a little harder to break. Hmm. Perhaps it's time to fall back on his skills. Loki raises his hand slowly. An inky blackness spreads from his palm and slowly covers the whole sphere.
There's nothing but silence. No sound, no light. A complete void. ]
(Her voice echoes back at her within the shield; nothing comes back. Can anybody hear her outside of this? The pitch blackness of everything is starting to unnerve her, so she lets a few dancing lights loose into the air around her while she tries to figure this out. Good thing small dark spaces don't necessarily terrify her!!)
(The first thud startles her and one of the dancing lights winks out. Okay, this– Lucretia doesn't think she likes this any more. It sounds like something is trying to break in, but from all around her. The only thing that keeps her from losing her mettle is that her shield doesn't seem to be on the verge of collapse: it's still holding strong.
That, and Loki is a master of illusion and trickery.)
Very funny. (Honestly, she'd try sunbeam to see if she could blast through some of the inky darkness surrounding her but she's not entirely sure which way is up right now, and she doesn't want to shoot a fucking sun laser out at anybody unexpectedly.)
[ Does it though? The sounds seem to come and go at random. Sometimes it'll be loud and deafening. Sometimes it feels like the ground is shaking beneath your feet. Thud. Shift. Scrape. The sound of glass cracking. It seems to go on forever. There's no way to tell time.
(The low rumble, the glass splintering, something loud bending, about to break... it's uncomfortably familiar to her. Kind of like being in a crash. Hey, how does she get out of here again? Another loud crack makes her jump, and she reaches her hand up to dissolve the shield...
And pauses, her eyes wide, thinking. If she stops the spell, will the darkness pour in here and smother her? If there's something huge outside trying to get in, will it simply crush her? She's not sure what to do.)
Okay, (she calls out uncertainly,) I think I'm done now. Stop, please.

What, just cause you decided it was?
[Loki is obviously the boss of magic.]
no subject
that's one of those 'get him' looks)
You know, not everybody has the same parameters when it comes to the practice of magic.
no subject
That's not my fault. I still don't understand what a spell slot is and why they're necessary.
no subject
Not all of us are gods, ya know? We gotta save our energy for the important shit.

no subject
Of course. Any rules we should establish beforehand?
no subject
You know, I'd say 'no murder' but I dunno if that's a worry for you too.
[Not like with Thor.]
no subject
Even so, perhaps we should establish a safe word? (she's being a shit)
no subject
I don't use those very often . . .
[ Loki plz. ]
no subject
Lucretia's safe word is my name.
[Dunks on himself because he can.]
no subject
Fine. The safe word is 'Taako'.
Outside of that I think that we're probably good. All I ask if you intentionally try to break my shields.
no subject
As you wish.
[ With that, flickers of green light gather around his fingers as he readies for the first blow. ]
i forgot it was my turn...

One moment–

I use magic the way the universe uses any force. And I can match it to another's.
