It's a party, ya'll
who: Everyone's invited!
what: That potluck he mentioned
when: Saturday afternoon
where: The park
warnings: None so far!
[True to form, Remy pulled out all the stops for this particular potluck. He has it on good authority that Rogue's bringing cornbread, but he's got what seems to be a wireless two-burner setup that he's brought along to the park, one of which is dominated by a very large pot of fragrant and spicy gumbo, and the other by a very large pot of cooked white rice, on warm. There's a small table with plastic-seeming (but totally biodegradable) bowls and utensils, two large coolers (because people might be bringing drinks), two big folding tables (for all the things that might be brought) and a big expanse of the park to cop a squat in and have some good grub, place some outdoors-y things, and have some fun! The park as a grill too, if someone wants to fire it up!]
(OOC: Feel free to post your own starters and have a ball! This is meant to be fun, after all. If you want Remy specifically, let me know! He'll be wandering around.)

Re: Freya Vaughn - OPEN
She had to feel around where the plates were, the area where the smell of food was fainter to make room for things. She also tried to recall that most put those things at the end of the table, so that narrowed where to go. Gyda was also certain she put a few people off by sniffing or feeling for utensils, but she flat out refused any help; they should only be glad she didn't do more than sniff or ask what was being served.
She was trying to find a place to sit (not easy with one hand holding a plate) when she heard someone speak in her direction. "I suppose so?"
Perhaps she'd have a better answer if she could find a place to sit.

"There is grass underneath you if you want to sit."
She was already sitting on the ground, a few plates of food scattered next to one side.
no subject
Carefully, she shuffled and used her cane to find an empty patch of grass. Anyone in her way would earn a half-hearted 'sorry', but it was either this way or risk sitting on someone (and frankly this would've been the more embarrassing option).
Eventually, she did manage to find a place to sit down.

She nibbled at her cake and then licked some frosting off of her fork. Freya loved the outside and she loved food. This cookout was the summation of those two things that she loved.
"The cake is good, you should try some."
no subject
"I never would," She answered back, nearly smirking. "I'd hit you with the cane first, giving you plenty of time to move out of the way."
She lifted her plate up to her nose. The only way she could really know what food was what (besides eating it of course), was keeping it in separate portions. She found which one was the cake and took a bite; carrot. "I've yet to have cake that wasn't good, unless of course the baker was a bad one."
no subject
It's also what Freya would do if she was blind. Then again, it was a little different for her. She wasn't human and relied on her sense of smell just as much, if not more, than she did on her sight.
"I agree. Though I have met bad bakers. It's always a shame when I cake is bad. So far, everything here has been amazing."
no subject
There was a difference after all. "I used to enjoy baking, when I was able to see. I loved baking with modern ovens, it's so much easier." No more having to worry about fuel and or the fire going out.
no subject
It was probably a good thing that Freya wasn't blind, she'd terrorize so many people.
"You can't bake now? I get that it'd be harder but I don't think it's impossible. You just need to learn a new way to do it." She paused thoughtfully. "Maybe we can figure it out together. Mind you, I absolutely fail at baking, so it'd be mostly you. I'm just good at solving weird problems in creative ways."
no subject
She was making progress in that regard. Learning where things were, learning how to set things up, but cooking and baking were still processes she was working on. "I can find measuring devices if they're labeled and properly set, and some ingredients, but I'm still learning to read braille and I'm not allowed to use the oven."
Gyda angrily stabbed at a piece of meat. Before she lost her sight, she could just nearly run a home by herself if she chose to, it was something she took pride in. Now, she didn't even have that.
no subject
"What do you say? I think I get more out of it because I really suck at cooking but it might be fun." Her grin widened. "If we catch something on fire, well that's fun too."
She's a fan of interesting situations and activities.

On the other hand, perhaps if she had supervision.
Then she caught what she said afterwards and frowned. "Fire in the kitchen is nothing to laugh at. If you were to get scared and panic, both of us could trip and fall and the fire would get even worse."
Her brother was already sulking from the attack and her father would never not worry about her; neither would feel any better if a fire started in the homestead.
no subject
"My point is, that it'll be fine. I'll look out for you and maybe we can come up with ways for you to be able to cook on your own too. Like a device to put on your fingertips that helps you tell the oven's temperature or something."
She was just throwing out ideas, plausible or not.
no subject
On the other hand, she did miss cooking, proper cooking. She knew she could only do it with supervision, but at this point it was better than nothing. She told her such, adding. "But you would know if such devices exist or not."
no subject
That and Freya assumed she'd get to eat most of the things they cooked which was well worth the effort. Food was always worth the effort.
no subject
"Alright, lets do it." She moved her fork around her plate, realizing she'd eaten most of it already. "What is your name?"
Of all their talking, Gyda realized they've yet to exchange names.
no subject
Introductions didn't feel as important as talking and getting to know someone. Plus, Freya already had Gyda's scent which was all she needed if she wanted find the girl again.
no subject
She wondered if the woman knew of the rest of her family.
no subject
"It's nice to meet you Today."
no subject
She also debated on getting something to drink. Unfortunately, between handling her plate and navigating with the cane made such multi tasking difficult.
no subject
"It's kind of nice. I make my own hours and it makes it feel like I'm not so locked up in the city." Which she hated.
"What about you?"
Freya would be happy to help Gyda, as she would anyone who wasn't blind and didn't have enough hands to get themselves a drink but she didn't do things unless she was asked.
