He wakes up after a few days of assisting people and feels... bad. Definitely very bad. His inner systems are giving him various alerts for a high fever and sinus congestion and his eyes are definitely very watery. His ports are gently expelling more steam than normal as the biotic nano-tech in his system works overtime to deal with it.
Ugh. This was definitely not something he missed. When was the last time he was this sick...? He has vague memories of his brother putting an ice pack on his forehead, giving him medicine, and sitting with him all night.
Ah. Oh no. No use going down that rabbit hole of emotion and memory.
But he's alone (except for dear Pacchan) and he fumbles for his device. His vision is a little blurry. He tries to text Shigeru but it doesn't come out as coherent as he wanted. ]

I'm coming over right now! [ It'll only take him a few minutes to get there and when he does he'll knock before entering and calling out to Genji. There's a touch of worry in his voice that's easy to hear as he moves towards Genji's room. Augh he really hopes it's not the same virus...he really hopes it's not. ]
Genji!
no subject
When he calls his name, Genji pries his eyes open and lulls his head over to him. With a shaky smile, he tries to sit up but can't quite manage it. ]
Shig— [ He coughs, a whir coming from his chest as he does so. Genji grumbles. ] I should not have been so sure I wouldn't get sick.
[ His voice is even more hoarse than usual. But he smiles again as he looks at his dear boyfriend. ]
Thank you for being here.
no subject
Sh. Don't talk unless you have to. [ He'll give him a loving smile as he lightly touches his cheek before getting up. ]
I-I'm going to make you something for your throat. How about some soup? Or-or anything you feel like, really. It might make you feel better.
no subject
Okayu would be nice. [ Cough. ] Rice porridge. [ Cough. ] If it's not too much trouble.
[ It's so hard for Genji to not talk, chatty man. ]
no subject
I-I can definitely make that. [ Once he looks up a recipe. ]
And it's definitely no trouble at all. I'm glad you contacted me, now I get to pamper you like you've done so many times for me. [ He laughs as he looks back at Genji with a loving smile. ]
I'll make sure you're as comfortable as you want.
no subject
I know I am in good hands. [ Cough, whir, sniff. ] I feel better just seeing your face.
[ Uh oh, fever addled Genji is sappier than normal. That's a lot of sap. ]
no subject
Just rest and I'll get started on the soup. Is there anything else I can do for you right now? [ There's evident worry in his voice as he looks Genji over. He knows what the virus going around can do and it...honestly is scaring him to death. If Genji fell into a coma...he doesn't know what he'd do. ]
no subject
He reaches up shakily to brush the warm pads of his fingertips against his love's cheek. ]
Just having you near is enough. Don't worry, I have every intention of resting and getting better.

🤒
But a few days have gone by and he shows no sign of improvement, and his cabin fever is getting way worse than his actual fever. It doesn't help that Eddie is busy at work; the police force really can't afford to have anyone missing right now, when there is a lot of bubbling panic and uncertainty throughout the city. So Cisco insists that he is fine, and makes Eddie leave him alone at home.
And he is fine - at least, not ill enough to be really concerned about his safety. But he's bored, and so he starts wondering if there are any of his friends who might be immune - or at least resistant - to the disease that he might see. And, well, Genji is an obvious choice. So Cisco sends a text asking if he can come over, despite being sick, and Genji confirms his suspicions that it should be safe. Once he does, Cisco makes his way over - it takes a while, since he doesn't want to risk a cab, and he has to pause a few times on the way, but when he gets there, Cisco is really dying for some conversation. He's been way too quiet and cooped up, and it shows in how brightly he smiles when Genji answers the door. ]
Hey. Thanks for letting me come over, man. I won't leave any germs, promise.
[ He holds up his hands, showing off the sterile gloves he's wearing - he can at least prevent himself from touching anything, and he hasn't been coughing or sneezing at all, so there's at least that. ]

He starts some tea and keeps some medicine in a nearby cabinet in case he needs it. Genji can't exactly scold someone for fighting through illness because it's exactly what he'd try to do. Pot calling the kettle black and all.
Genji answers the door with a smile, it tugging on the scars on his face. ]
Hello, my friend. [ He chuckles at the gloves. ] That is appreciated, but I wasn't worried.
[ Genji gestures for him to come in. The tea is set up on the coffee table near the couch, with a box of tissues and a few pillows and a granny square blanket folded up there in case he needed any of it. ]
I think relaxing after these hectic few days is a good idea.
no subject
Hasn't been hectic for me. I've been all cooped up. Trying not to be Typhoid Mary, you know?
[ Cisco reaches over for a cup of tea, but once he's poured it, he merely cradles it between his hands, not drinking any just yet. Hard to say if the brightness in his eyes is from fever or just plain eagerness to chat. ]
Thanks for letting me come over. I was in pretty desperate need of some company. I was starting to talk to the cat. Not like, normal cat-owner levels of talking to the cat, either. I mean way beyond that.
no subject
He chuckles and heads over to the couch, stepping over it instead of walking around Cisco just because he can. He settles in and pours some tea for himself. ]
I understand. Being alone when you're ill is tedious, all you can think about is how bad you feel.
[ He leans back with proper posture and crosses his legs up on the couch. ]
I think we've all had existential conversations with animals before. I once found myself ranting at a yak after Zenyatta said something that stirred up quite a lot of things in me.
no subject
A yak!? Well! They probably make better listeners than cats, anyway. At least, I'd think so. I don't know. You know I've actually never seen an actual yak before. Only on TV. [ He frowns, adds: ] Actually only in cartoons, come to think of it.
[ Cisco had come here wanting to talk but without any particular conversational agenda, so he is happy just to wander along from topic to topic aimlessly. So, since his curiosity is piqued, and he always likes hearing Genji speak about Zenyatta: ]
What'd he say? I mean, unless it's too personal.
no subject
[ He takes a sip, the corner of his eyes still crinkled. ]
I earned my keep in the village I stayed in with various chores, usually helping tend to the yaks and other animals. As well as cleaning and watching children. A nice woman made me a yak wool sweater. [ He looks wistful. ] It was very warm. A shame I didn't show up with it.
[ And Genji always takes any opportunity to speak of his teacher. ]
Ah. [ Another chuckle. ] He suggested in that way of his that I was more similar to my brother than I wanted to admit. I was not yet at the point of forgiving him and I had... words. Mainly to that poor yak.
no subject
I'm not gonna lie, the mental image I'm getting of you brushing a yak is very funny.
[ He's not surprised to hear that Genji had looked after the animals and children, though. He's good. Nurturing. He can take care of things, plants, creatures. Cisco thinks that he's lucky to know a person like that. ]
I'm glad they were nice to you.
[ Definitely something that would've remained just a thought and not something he said out loud, if his filter were working the way it ought to. But... he's sick, so some stuff is just gonna slip out. ]
Yeppp, that'd do it.
[ He still doesn't understand how Genji had found it in himself to forgive his brother. Cisco knows of course, how complicated the whole thing was, how Genji is a mature and understanding person. But still... on some level, Cisco can't imagine it. So he just says: ]
I'm sure that yak didn't mind.
no subject
I'm sure it was. There's no way other people didn't hear me either. I'm surprised I didn't get more noise complaints.
[ But at what Cisco says next, his expression softens. It's... such a simple statement, but it says quite a lot. ]
Thank you. It was probably the first time I had been welcomed with no judgement by other human beings in so long... I didn't want to believe it. [ He takes another sip of his tea. ] The Omnic monastery was high up in the mountain, but down below was a human village that had welcomed them when they needed a place to stay. It was so untouched by the conflict and there was no judgement. Just... living, helping each other. It was what I needed.
[ And forgiving his brother just sort of... happened along the way. As he realized how things shouldn't have been the way they were. How his brother never had a choice to become anything but a tool. And realizing that the things he can achieve with this body vastly outweigh the negative. ]
I do not think he did. He was a very good listener, regardless.

🐰
She would find that changing when she would return home, however.
As Hana returns to her and Genji's apartment, she's of course greeted first by the ecstatic Pacchan, who's happy to see one of her humans back. She's still geared up in her flight suit and a jacket issued by the Perimeter Guard over it when she sets her bags down to be greeted by her dog. ]
I missed you too, Pacchan!
[ Which is all she can really say before Pacchan covers her face in doggy kisses. Once she's calmed down, though, Hana looks around in search of her roommate. ]
Genji? I'm back!
no subject
But when the front door opens and he hears Pacchan excitedly yip, he hears a voice that is his dear roommate instead of his dear boyfriend. Despite his illness, he's excited to see her after such a long mission and he manages to sit up. He smooths down a bit of the pink blanket he'd managed to find in a linen closet. ]
I'm in the living room! [ His voice sounds even hoarser than usual. Then he coughs for a bit. ] And... ill.
no subject
You're sick?
[ Then she puts two and two together, and immediately her face crumples in concern. ]
Uh-oh. Is it that virus I keep hearing about?
[ A beat, then— ]
Hey, that's my blanket.
no subject
Genji just nods slowly. ]
Yes. Here I thought I would be immune to it but. Alas.
[ —oh. He looks a little sheepish. ]
...the others are in the wash? I'm taking good care of it. Right, Pacchan?
[ He pats at it. Look, no used tissues sitting on it or pulled stitches or anything!! ]
no subject
Okay, I understand. Just promise not to mess it up, okay?
[ There's a playful smile on her lips now, at least. ]
How can I help you? I don't really understand what's going on with this...
no subject
I will take this mission very seriously, Sergeant.
[ Genji shifts a little, going back to frowning slightly. ]
There isn't much to be done besides just wait for it to pass. It comes and goes for me; sometimes I feel mildly ill like now and other times I get a high fever. I think it's my own biotic nanotech trying to fight it off.
no subject
At his addressing her as 'Sergeant,' Hana smiles. She hasn't been called that in a while. ]
Does Shigeru know...?
no subject
He looks back up to Hana, nodding. ]
Yes, he's been looking after me. He had some business to attend to for the day, but I am better than I was.
