[ A War kite wasn’t too far off from a Bat-Dragon. In fact, Annie was even bigger than Goliath had been when he was a baby. So giving her the proper training shouldn’t be too different.

Even Goliath learned to fly by this age. You can’t let fear hold you back, now come on, try again.

[ Annie does try and starts to flap her wings. Good start, Damian nods in approval and she flaps harder. Excellent, she’s even getting some air. He balls his fist as he watches her, a grin tugs at his lip. ] Jon! She’s doing it!

[ He turns to yell for his friend, not noticing Annie was, well, losing air and fast, oh, and she was drifting closer to him. By the time Damian turns around again, she’s coming in for a landing... on top of him. ]

Hey--Hng! [ He grunts as the War Kite pins him down. ] Alright, let's take a break from flying lessons. [ Annie seems to agree as she gives the teen a messy lick .]

...Stupid War Kite.

Uh-huh.

[ The tone is very polite. But at Damian's question, his smile drops a little. ]

I had to go over to the portal. They had new memories for us.

[ Damian raised a brow at Jon's subtle smile drop, but quickly understands why. ]

Oh... [ He frowns at the canisters in Jon's hands. The last time Jon got one of those, they had some upsetting memories about his grandfather. Damian gave them a weary look, really hoping this one didn't have any upsetting news about his own lunatic relatives... ]

You don't have to open it...

[ Jon tosses Damian's to him. He's never gotten really good memories, just jumbles of bad and good laced together, giving him more questions than answers. But he's a different person now. He's gone through a lot and he's grown.

Jon isn't going to be afraid of his memories. ]

No. I will. I'm ready.

You?

[ Damian catches it, it's surprisingly light. He's not sure if the bodes well though in terms of memory weight. Whatever that's supposed to be like. ] Are they always this light?

[ He's never gotten one before and wait, they came together, does that mean the memories are linked? Or maybe about his Titans? Or Father? So many questions. He almost doesn't hear when Jon ask him if he's ready.

He hesitates for a moment longers, before concluding that standing here calculating possible outcomes wasn't going to get him anywhere conclusive. Just rip off the band-aid. ]

Yes.

[supersweet]

[ Jon smiles faintly. ]

It's really not that bad.

[ 'Maybe not for you.'

Damian doesn't really take as much comfort in Jon's words as one might hope because when your memories could contain things like your Grandfather having you and your friends hunted down as a birthday surprise? You kind of have more reason to worry, Jon. ]

Just... promise you'll let me explain anything you might see.

[supersweet]

[ Jon rolls his eyes before poking Damian's shoulder. ]

Look, nothing I'm gonna see is going to change us, okay? We're partners.

[ This might be true, your life would be pretty dull without him, Jon. Damian takes a moment to consider but if there was something in there, he'd have to own up to it. He wasn't proud of his past but it would be nice to know if he could trust Jon enough to forgive him for it. ]

Count of 3? [ He places his hand over the canister lid. ]

[ Jon nods, resting his hands on the canister lid. ]

Ready.

3... 2... 1.

[ Damian opens up the canister and well, he never got one of these before, but this was all pretty anti-climactic when you really thought about it.

Nevertheless as he eyes the contents he's reminded how much the tech in this place continues to fascinate him. He'd have to take this thing apart when they were done with it. ]

[supersweet]

[ Jon lets the memories wash over him. The alternate Tim, his powers. Talia, Damian's mother. Learning about his other grandfather, his mother's father. It's a lot to take in, but it's not as bad as Manchester Black, so Jon merely lets out a deep breath. ]

You okay?

[sonofab]

[ He watches Jon in silence, he looks to be in a trace for awhile, but not pained or sad. Good news...? Well Jon was still talking to him, so... ]

I don't think it's-- [ Wait, there it goes. He closes his eyes as the info loads in. Titans reunited. Emiko... A good. Father and that thief. He still didn't like it... but she's helping to make Father happy.

Drake. His Drake. He was alive?! Drake again. Not his Drake but another alternative? He was trying to kill Jon. Their futures so uncertain but hardly written in stone. Batwoman on trial. Mother's has returned and had a test for him. Jon's mom is her target and now he knew. Not in detail, but it was out.

He lets out a breath and rubs his temple. That was a lot to take in... ]

No, but I will be... So...seems you met my mother.

Uh, yeah.

[ Jon pauses, not sure what to say about that. ]

It was pretty special?

She tried to kill your mom... but sure. That's a word for it. [ Eloquent as always Jon. ]

Is that really all you have to say about it? [ He wasn't sure if he should be relieved or offended. ]

[supersweet]

[ Look, he didn't want to say it. ]

Uh. Yeah? I mean, I already kind of knew about some of your . . . backstory.

[sonofab]

Wait, you did? [ He doesn't like that you know more stuff than him here, Jon. It's putting this pupil/mentor thing we have on a tilt! ]

What the hell have you known?

[supersweet]

I mean, not all the crazy details but like. You have let little things slip, D. And I listen.

[sonofab]

Do you now? So what do you think you've figured out? [ Though some tension does seem to leave his shoulders at the nickname.

Even after everything he was still calling him that. Not looking at him with horror or hate in the memory or here... He was, really okay? ]

[supersweet]

[ Jon shrugs. ]

That you did bad stuff. And sometimes, you hate the way your mom is, trying to push you into a life you don't want. That you've changed a long time ago.

[sonofab]

I meant before the memory dump...J. [ He paused to flick Jon's forehead. ]

But that's the gist of it. Mother ...designed me to be a weapon, a one-man army, but Father showed me more. [ Damian folds his arms and sighs. Mother's training ran deep, but he was trying hard to do better. Be better. To be Batman and not the next R'as. ]

[supersweet]

That's what I meant!

[ Jon rubs his forehead with a pout. ]

Anyway, I don't really know any details details.

[sonofab]

It's better that way. [ He doesn't really want to see Jon cry today. At least not over this. Maybe later after beating him in a video game or something. ]

But, as my partner, if there is one thing you absolutely can't get off your mind, this is a one time offer to mitigate your curiosity. [ And so help you if you ask what "Mitigate" means. ]

[ Jon always has questions. He's a curious kid and never shied away from that. But he feels asking about Damian's past . . . isn't really his right. Plus, it doesn't change anything so did he really need to know about it? Everyone's got secrets. Jon has plenty. ]

. . . Are you gonna be okay? With all this stuff with your mom.

[ Damian's takes a moment to answer the question. ] Yes, I'm used to her test by now. This isn't even the worse thing she's done.

[ He says, trying to sound casual, but it always hurt. He'll deny it until the end, but it always hurt when she came back into his life. Called him a disappointment. Reminded him that part of his life would never truly be gone, but it always made him want to do better. To make Father proud. ]

Yeah. I mean. Other than an alternate version of Tim trying to kill me.
