Open for All

1} Troubles moving in:

After adopting a cat, Yu had spent some time looking for a new place to move into. It wasn’t an abrupt decision- he had spent a lot of time thinking about this. Felix keeps shedding everywhere and he didn’t want to be a nuisance to other people with him. Especially since it was an open communal floor. Cats just take ownership of everything. Also, living closer to the Perimeter would be perfect.

He had spent an entire afternoon wandering around the Riverview, looking for a potential place to move in. Probably rent some small place since he lives by himself. Eventually, he finds a small, half-furnished house, snuggled in between two taller buildings. The grocery shop is near, as well as a laundromat.

On the day of moving in, the things got a little busy in front of the new home. Yu had to buy a low wooden table and comfortable zaisu chairs to go with it to the living room. In all that commotion, Felix, the orange kitten, had slipped past the entrance door and disappeared. And Yu noticed that after bringing in the box with Felix’s stuff.

“Felix?”

The cat didn’t come. In a slight panic, Yu ran onto the sidewalk, almost tripping on one of the patrolling bots, looking around frantically for the orange furball.

“Felix!”

2} On the Guard:

Yu was familiar with the vicinity of the Wall. He did all the morning patrols close to it, knew every nook and cranny, every stone was familiar to him. And, usually, there wasn’t any trouble at all. If there were any enemies and creatures lurking around, Yu’s Personas were more than strong to dispatch them.

This morning was calm too. Yu had a brawl with a centipede earlier but that was over fairly soon- Izanagi only had a trouble hitting its slimy body with his sword. It just didn’t want to go through. In the end, Yu just struck it down with his thunder spell and went on his way.

But on his way back, he spots one other person near the gate to the city. Putting katana back into its sheaths, he quickly makes his way over. Are they injured? Lost? Or maybe someone they know is injured or lost? Better be safe than sorry.

“Hey. Are you alright?”

Yu wants to suggest to keep in the vicinity of the wall because, according to the Guard reports, there are dangerous things out there that people shouldn't underestimate and take on by themselves.

But the offer to ride the chocobo distracts him for a moment.

"Really?! I have never ridden anything before in my life. Not even a horse." He isn't scared of the bird now but more of his own incompetence. He doesn't want to end up hurting everyone involved in the riding.

Even if they drift too far away, they're not by themselves, they have capable partners. Noctis is, perhaps, a bit too overconfident in his abilities, but he also holds confidence in Yu.

To make it easier, Noctis urges the Chocobo to bend slightly, making it easier to climb onto his back.

"Just throw yourself over and hold onto the reigns. I'll guide you from the outside until you get used to it. It's not hard, and Apela won't just run off unless you're riding him into danger."

Gingerly, and with a hefty dose of nervousness, Yu climbs the chocobo. He takes the rains and settles comfortably in the seat, taking a deep breath.

This. Is probably the coolest thing he's done. That doesn't involve magic, of course.

He's riding a bird!

"...This is so cool!"

Yu takes to the Chocobo naturally, and Noctis feels decently secure in handing over the reigns, at least as long as he's able to teleport.

"Yeah, it's pretty exciting riding it the first time." And the second. And third. "Just be careful and don't go too fast, especially since it's your first time."

And Noctis is walking along beside him on foot. He only had one Chocobo.

He's not sure how natural at this Yu is, but he's not confident in his riding skills at all. Don't leave his side Noct! He'll panic!

"I won't. I don't feel too secure going by myself to be honest," Yu admits, getting chocobo to walk slowly, not wanting to go ahead of Noctis. Thank heavens no one can hear the excited heart thudding. With a grin, he gently pets chocobo's head.

"I feel bad that you have to go by foot though," he looks over to Noct. He literally took the bird away from the guy.

For both of their sakes, Noctis is staying beside him. The Chocobo is going at a slower pace than usual, sensing Yu's nervousness, and that allows Noctis to easily keep pace.

"Kwheee." He seems to appreciate the pettings.

"I rode him over, you probably walked. He's never been outside the wall." Because neither has Noctis.

It's one smart bird, Yu has to admit. He doubts that horses would be able to do that. Also, they seem more dangerous if Yu's going to be completely honest.

And if the pettings are appreciated, Yu is going to dish out some more.

"Ehh. So this like a new adventure for him huh?" Which could also be said for Yu and Noctis.

"I don't really know how often Gladio had him outside of the wall...he disappeared pretty soon after I came so I didn't get to ask him much. He seemed a little nervous when we came though, so it seems like he's used to being inside. As long as we're careful with him, it should be fine. He'll be able to get more exercise out here, too."

Sadly, Noctis wasn't even able to ask if he was named, but the Chocobo seems to respond to the new name well.

"There's supposed to be places in my world who do nothing but raise them."

"Disappeared..." Yu looks troubled a bit. "Did he perhaps, go back?" Back home. A lot of people did that, it wouldn't be surprising. Yu heard that some people left and didn't come back and some left and returned.

"Oh, I promise to help you out with taking care of him while we're out here!" He'd offer to help him out more back in the city but he doesn't want to butt in too much.

"Really!? That's amazing! Are there more colors or are there only black ones?"

"Yeah, I think he went back. If he was missing for real, I'd definitely be looking for him. He left some stuff behind, stuff I think was meant for me. I wonder if he knew it was going to happen. He never said anything...Probably not then. Gladio's the forward type."

Maybe Gladio and Ignis would come back someday. Maybe Prompto would come as well. It's impossible to know, as far as Noctis can tell.

For a moment, the silence lingers as the prince thinks over the question. He's not seen a lot of Chocobos, really, he just knows of their existence. The black feels special.

"No idea, really. I didn't get to go in the wild, and there weren't really places to ride them in the city."
