monthly mingle: SAMPREMI
what: monthly mingle: sampremi
when: The month of March.
where: Anywhere around the city.
warnings: there will likely be nsfw content; please put any necessary warnings in the subject lines

In the days leading up to March 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Sampremi. This is one of Riverview's four yearly celebrations of love, this one focused on sexual love and lust, and sexual relationships that might bloom into more (or not). Traditions associated with Sampremi are a roving street market, raves where residents can seek out some free love and get a little crazy, a massive week-long kink convention, and a tech expo with all-ages and adult options.

Riverview has always been a place focused on love and building connections in order to foster community, and for a lot of people, sex is part of that, which makes it something worth celebrating! For people who use sex as a way to connect with others, even if only for a short time, or those who use it as a way to connect on a deeper level with the ones they already love, Sampremi is the perfect holiday to get their freak on in a host of new and exciting or comfortable and familiar ways. The holiday features a large kink convention, where various entities in the city can show off their toys, explain their niche kinks, and share their insights with anyone who might be interested, a series of raves that are both all-ages and adult where residents can find someone(s) to share a night (or a week, a few months, or even a life) with. This year, there is a large tech expo where cutting edge tech companies in the city are sharing their newest toys, like improved virtual reality, robotics advances, and many other types of toys - all for work, play, or, in the spirit of the holiday, pleasure. And for those who don't want to connect through sex or who aren't old enough to, there are dances, games, and an entire market full of street food that's meant for sharing, so they can connect in other ways.
● OOC NOTE: Please be sure to warn in subject lines for any threads involving sexual content, drug use or other content that fellow players may wish to avoid, and do not use the prompt mechanics to circumvent consent in your threads, as non-consensual sex is not permitted on the game communities. Items such as aphrodisiacs, VR, or party drugs mentioned in the prompts are intended to facilitate consensual sex, not to encourage sexual assault, or to 'trick' characters into having sex that they would not normally have. ICly, please remember that there is always security to intervene and make sure everyone is safe.
i. color raves
Advertised on flyers and digital screens around the city, made to pop as if they were under blacklight, is a series of what's called "color raves" that are happening in various large empty warehouse spaces around the city. They are called color raves for the bright colorful lights, the preponderance of glowsticks that attendees wave around, and for the brightly colored powder for attendees to play with, some of which is spiked with a mild party drug and some of which is just for fun (with the difference clearly marked, of course). There are three types of color rave - adult, all-ages, and youth raves.
(CW: DRUG USE) At each adult rave and all-ages rave there is one specific room where attendees can enter (after proving themselves 18+), and dance or play tag with brightly colored powder that contains small amounts of a legal party drug commonly available in Riverview, which is absorbed through the skin. Not much more intoxicating than having a few beers, the effects of the drug are a pleasant low-key buzzing euphoria, positive sensitivity to touch, a heightening of desires for intimacy, and a mild lowering of inhibitions. Once a character has been hit with the powder, the color lingers on the skin so other attendees can know who has partaken, but once the powder makes contact with a surface (whether it is skin, clothing, or structural) it deactivates, meaning that partakers can safely dance with non-partakers without sharing the intoxicating effects.
Adult raves will have bouncers at the door to ensure that anyone entering is 18+, and there is no limit to when and where the debauchery happens. Clothing is optional, showing skin is encouraged, and there are a lot of neatly tucked away spaces for attendees to get some time alone with one or more than one person, as well as spaces intended for orgies. The atmosphere is sex-positive and non-judgemental, open to any orientation or preference, with various forms of protection available for free, however, to ensure that everyone plays safe there are sober security teams out en masse at all premises to oversee the events.
All-ages raves are open to anyone who wishes to attend, regardless of age. There are bouncers at the door who will check ID and stamp the hand of anyone who is 18+ with a special ink that shows up under blacklight for easy identification. At all-ages raves, 18+ and underage characters can mingle, but there are specific areas set aside for only 18+ characters where they can get down and dirty either in private or the open.
Adult and all-ages raves will have only spiked powder to avoid confusion.
Youth raves are intended only for younger characters under 18, so they can stay up all night and dance like crazy, and meet other young people in the city. The legal drinking age in Riverview Quarantine is 14, and so anyone over 14 can enter and indulge in a few drinks, dancing, and playing tag with a version of the colored powder featured at the adult raves that won't give you anything but a sugar high. There is copious amounts of security on site to ensure that everyone is safe, as well as nurses and off-duty police officers to offer advice or care for anyone who overindulges out of lack of experience. Youth raves will have only sugar powder, brightly colored and sweet to the taste, meant for fun and to play tag with rather than to cause intoxication.
ii. kink convention
For the week of March 4-10 there will be a massive kink convention on the top floor of one of the large exhibition centers downtown, limited to characters 18+. The exhibition is a sexy adult informational convention featuring various kinks and fetishes. Whether you're into leather, latex, lace, or anything else, you'll be able to find the clothes, toys, guides, books, erotica, fiction, and a wide variety of other interesting stuff to explore. While the atmosphere is sex-positive and there are private and public (for the voyeurs and exhibitionists in the room) venues for having sex, it's definitely focused on exploration and information about different stuff to try.
If someone has thought of it and figured it sounded sexy, it can be found here, and with Riverview's high level of tech advancement and widespread acceptance of magic, things can get pretty kinky. Whatever your kink is, there's probably a VR program, sex toy, potion, or spell that can make it happen, and someone who's got the downlow on how to make it great.
iii. tech expo
Riverview prides itself on its technological advancement, and so, running concurrently with the Kink Convention on March 4-10 and on the bottom floor of the same convention center, various cutting-edge tech companies in the city will be sponsoring a Tech Expo. The expo features demonstrations of all of the most advanced technology that's coming into use in the city, ranging from advancements in VR and holotech to robotics and gadgets, you can find the latest and greatest in almost any area of modern technology. Attendees will be able to come with a friend or a date or anything in between to play VR games, enjoy holoprojected escape rooms and puzzles, meet robot pets, try out the most recent music player or that new cell phone that can bend without breaking, and a wide variety of other gadgets.
While most of the tech expo is all-ages and non-sexual, there is a decently-sized adult area where characters must show ID proving they are 18+ in order to enter, where the technology is mostly related to sexual use. This area features advanced sex toys, VR systems intended to explore sex with other people in a virtual environment with no strings attached, sexy video games and holoprograms, and many other sensual technological.
iv. street market
One of the major draws of the festival is the special street food that can only be obtained this time of year. Almost everything you can buy at the Sampremi Festival is meant to be shared - whether it's one piece of meat on two or more sticks or desserts baked with a narrow part in the middle for convenient tearing, everything is built to be shared. The stalls sell everything from cups of soup, sandwiches, roasted or fried meat, deep-fried vegetables and cakes, dumplings, donuts, bagels, turnovers, and anything else you can think of.
Many of the savory dishes are based on the meat of a particular fowl native to the moon Riverview is situated on that has a taste and texture halfway between chicken and duck, cooked to be spicy (ranging from very mild to throat-burning). Many of the desserts are based around a fruit native to the moon that is spherical, red-orange, and has a light sweet taste that is similar to a combination of mango, pineapple, and strawberry. Both ingredients are considered to be aphrodisiacs. Of course, the foods aren't actually aphrodisiacs and any effect is purely placebo, though there are some booths (clearly marked and with someone to check ID) that sell actual aphrodisiac-laced foods and drinks to people who are 18+.
The festival features an entire row of fair games ranging from very high-tech games featuring virtual reality and neon holograms to extremely old-fashioned games with darts and balloons or balls and glasses. The games all have prizes in various shapes and sizes, with the standard stuffed animals, but also with goods and special items donated by any business in the city; ranging from tiny prizes to huge and expensive ones. Due to the nature of the holiday, many of the stalls are set up to cater to winning a prize for your partner(s), and due to the nature of the Quarantine, a lot of them involve aiming or other aspects of pretending to fight.
Originally, the part of the street festival that involved an actual market, with stalls and booths set up with goods, was aimed primarily at romantic trinkets like flowers or jewelry, gifts intended to be purchased for a loved one. As time has gone by, however, this aspect of the market has increased, with many businesses participating, though the emphasis is still on small businesses and anything relating to local culture rather than booths for any of the larger more corporate businesses. There is still plenty of jewelry to be found, for sure, mostly handmade and artisan, but the scope of the Market has widened immeasurably. The Sampremi Market is an excellent place to find specialty foods, clothing, jewelry, art, or other goods that were originally native to cultures on other planets in this reality, or other realities altogether. Many residents in the city use the market to share their unique cultural goods and traditional dress with others.
v. roommates or wildcard
Feel free to use this prompt to meet new roommates, for the purpose of getting to know each other, or hit up the mod-posted prompt to create a Communal Housing floor mingle. Or, if you have an idea for a prompt that isn't in this list, set during Sampremi, feel free to write it up!

Oh man, how embarrassing. You must've thought I was a total ass.
[Eddie's grinning as he looks at Cisco, and digs out his ID as they head toward the door - thankfully they both look over 18, so it's only a perfunctory glance from the bouncer before they're heading into the center.
And he can't help it, he has to ask.]
So what were you thinking?
no subject
[ He tucks his idea away, pulling Eddie closer as he does so he can cling close to his arm, rest his head against Eddie's shoulder as they stroll. The expo isn't too crowded, yet, but Cisco knows it will be bustling in another hour or so. He's glad they got here while it was still relatively quiet. ]
I was just paranoid that I'd do something to give myself away, and then everything would be awkward forever. You weren't acting like an ass, you were acting like- like an ordinary guy, and I was just trying really hard not to be a total creep.
[ Eddie had still been taken, and besides, it had felt like a betrayal of Eddie's trust as his friend, to walk around with him pretending he wasn't thinking about and imagining stuff he definitely shouldn't have been. Cisco gives a short sigh; a little of the remembered anxiety from that last time has somehow wormed its way into him. He tries consciously to relax. This time, there's nothing to worry about. He and Eddie are together, and things are good. Better than he had ever dreamed they could be. ]
Do you mean what was I thinking, back then? You want me to draw you a diagram?
[ But it's the sort of joke that Cisco tells in order to avoid answering, when the truth is a bit embarrassing. His face heating, he speaks again, voice lowering so Eddie definitely will be the only one who hears him. ]
Well, apart from worrying about making sure I wasn't giving myself away, I pretty much was wondering what you'd be like in bed. What you would end up liking. What it would be like to... you know. Experiment with some of this stuff, with you. Open your eyes to it. Kind of make sure you were safe and didn't push yourself too hard or whatever. Look after you, you know.
[ It's stupid for him to be blushing this hard, but it's a potent memory, and there had been a lot of embarrassment attached to those thoughts. ]
There was a lot of denial mixed in there, and annoyance at myself for falling for someone unavailable and super out of my league. But mostly it was all so unknown, you know? I was just- I'd never been with you, so all I could do was imagine, and be curious. I didn't have any idea... what you were into. But I started to get an idea, and a lot of it was, um. Stuff I liked too.
no subject
[He shakes his head, laughing, and then goes quiet for a moment, still amused, before carrying on.]
Now that I think about it, I still feel like my chest hair means I shouldn't wear an open shirt...
[Another headshake, and then he glances over at Cisco while his boyfriend makes a silly joke, and then gets it together to explain what he had been thinking. That he was wondering what Eddie would be like in bed, what he would like, what it would be like to experiment with him and look after him. Ducking his head, Eddie smiles softly.]
To look after me and make sure I was safe while I explored some kinks? You know, that sounds like a lot of fun. And that...actually still sounds like something we could do. I know we've done quite a few things together but...we can definitely find some stuff here that we haven't tried yet.
[A beat, while Cisco blushes deeper and then explains how he'd been feeling, annoyed at himself, in denial, curious and imagining what Eddie would be into. Learning a few things and liking the sound of them.]
Okay, first off, I am absolutely not out of your league. There are no leagues. You're an amazing guy, and I'm lucky to have you. Okay?
[Squeezing Cisco's hand in his, he smirks a bit as he looks around.]
Secondly, I was totally checking your ass out then, and maybe thinking about what you'd be like in bed and what you were into too. Which was even worse, because I was in a relationship at the time. So...you know, don't feel bad.
no subject
[ Eddie has come a long way from his fairly conservative upbringing, but he's still quite traditional in the way he dresses from day to day. But Cisco makes the decision, right that that moment, to buy him something mildly slutty he can encourage him to wear. As a liberatory exercise, obviously. ]
If you haven't noticed, people here aren't as obsessed with every guy needing to wax or whatever.
[ And he nods at a gaggle of people congregated near the entrance, two of whom do, indeed, have quite a lot of body hair on display.
It is gratifying, when Eddie says that he'd noticed Cisco's body the first time they'd been to one of these things, that despite everything he'd been a little interested, a little curious. Cisco can't help but giggle, nodding his agreement when Eddie says there are no such thing as leagues. Some of that remembered tension loosens in his chest; the past is the past. They're together now, and here together, and that's what is important.
When Eddie mentions that they should keep their eye out for some new things to explore together, Cisco is beaming before he can even finish the sentence. ]
I mean, yeah. What do you think we're here for? You see anything that looks even a lil' bit interesting, you tell me, and we can do some investigating. Sound good? And... I promise I'll do the same. Even if it's embarrassing. Deal?
no subject
[He pitches it as if it were a joke, but there's a distinct undercurrent of self-conscious curiosity to it. The truth is, he really does want to know, because the way Cisco phrased that didn't really give him a clear idea. Already, he's planning to look around for wax for his chest just in case Cisco doesn't like it, would rather be appealing to him than anyone else.
As they head into the convention center, Eddie exhales a long breath, glancing around thoughtfully.]
Deal. I mean, if there's anyone I can trust with my embarrassing kinky fantasies, it's you.
[He squeezes Cisco's hand warmly, glancing over at him with a warm smile.]
I seem to remember you mentioning you might be into costumes a little? And I mean...I am too...
no subject
[ Cisco says his boyfriend's name with a note of fond coaxing in his voice; he actually gets in front of Eddie, making him stop in his tracks, a little ways into the convention center. Deliberately, with a tiny curve of a smile at the corner of his mouth, Cisco undoes two of the buttons on Eddie's henley, parting the shirt just enough for a tiny bit of his pale chest hair to be visible. Making a soft hmm of satisfaction, Cisco runs his hands up and down Eddie's chest and says: ]
I really, really like your chest hair. It's sexy as fuck. I'm almost changin' my mind right now, 'cause now everybody here's gonna keep looking at you, and getting ideas.
[ He comes back to Eddie's side, looping an arm around his lower back and sticking his hand securely into the back pocket of Eddie's jeans, a little awkward to walk with, a little demonstratively possessive. ]
There. This way everyone'll know you're mine. Problem solved.
[ And together, the two of them start roaming the convention. Cisco had forgotten just how big and how crowded this thing was, the last time. But he's paying much more attention to what Eddie's saying than to these first displays near the door. All of them are relatively tame, anyway. Blindfolds, vibrators. Very basic stuff. ]
Hell yeah. What kind of costumes were you thinking, baby?
[ They'd dabbled into that sort of thing a little, around Halloween, but only incidentally - it hadn't been anything deliberate, anything that was a real focus of either of their attentions. ]
no subject
They can look all they like, but I'm only going home with you. You're the only one I want, Cisco Ramon.
[When Cisco slides that hand into his back pocket, Eddie laughs, and starts walking, draping an arm around his boyfriend's shoulders, comfortable in a way that suggests they've been together a while and intend to be together for a long while to come. That they know each other inside and out, that they're here to find new ideas, not new partners.]
Hmmm...
[Eddie looks around, mouth curving into a little smile.]
I don't know. Dirty cop is kind of...an ill-advised fantasy of mine. Guilty pleasure, I guess. I feel that way about a few costumes and scenarios that are sort of...power imbalances. I know, I know, it's really bad but...
[He shrugs, cheeks bright red.]
I would love to do superhero stuff with you too, but we already have those costumes.
no subject
[ It's so much easier for Cisco to declare that, simply and with confidence, when he hears the hint of wavering in Eddie's voice, glances over and sees how he is blushing. No better way not to feel embarrassed than out of a sense of protectiveness. Eddie's brave in a whole lot of ways, but he also likes to blend in. To put on an outward display of being normal, exceptional, acceptable, even conservative in a way.
Cisco's not going to let any of that 'guilt' in 'guilty pleasure' stick around, if he has anything to say about it. ]
What kinda power imbalance are we talking about, hmm?
[ When Eddie mentions superhero stuff, Cisco's grin goes a bit lopsided, a bit wicked. Eyebrows raising, he adds: ]
And we could also make... you know. Modified superhero outfits for special occasions. Versions of the ones that we have now that just have a little less tech, and don't take quite as much time to get into and out of. I'd be happy to whip some up. We could look for materials, here...
[ Tucking his hair behind his ear, Cisco elaborates: ]
I wouldn't mind, you know. Being a bit of a damsel in distress. I mean, not damsel, but. Whatever the guy version of that is. Dude in distress.
no subject
Exhaling a little, he shrugs.]
Promise you won't think badly of me?
[Before he says another word, he's definitely going to be waiting to secure that promise. Instead of continuing, he just listens to what Cisco is saying, nodding a bit and raising his brows, smiling slightly.]
I would love that. I mean, you know me and playing hero...I guess....I've never really gotten to explore that feeling much in my sex life, you know? The idea of it is kind of a turn on. Rescuing the dude in distress, the dude in distress getting all turned on because of it...maybe wanting to reward me...
no subject
[ There's a fond exasperation in the way Cisco says his boyfriend's name, as if to say of course he wouldn't think badly of him. Because it is an 'of course', for Cisco. But then he actually looks, sees those slightly hunched shoulders, the way Eddie is gnawing at his lip, and he stops speaking. This isn't coyness, but genuine uncertainty. So Cisco says, softly: ]
Hey. [ When Eddie's looking at him once more, he raises a hand and draws his finger over his chest in an 'X', keeping eye contact with Eddie as he says, gravely, with the air of someone swearing an oath in court. ]
I promise. Cross my heart.
[ He smiles his way through Eddie's description of that fantasy, even shivering a little at the way he says 'reward'. There's no missing how much he's into it, as well. He swallows, lost for words for a moment (a real rarity for Cisco, who's always got something to say). ]
So we're definitely doing that. I know just the place, too.
[ Beverly would just never need to know how he intended to use that holosuite. After all, she'd said it was open to the public. That anyone could book a time and run a program. And since she'd taught him how to write programs for that system... well, they could make the whole thing quite realistic. ]
no subject
Lifting his chin, he looks over at his boyfriend when Cisco says in a far more serious tone that he promises not to judge Eddie too harshly for what he's explaining. Shifting a bit closer, Eddie leans in against Cisco's side, turning his head toward him.]
Okay. Just. You know...things that are kind of abuses of power. Employees having sex with the boss for a raise, a prisoner giving a prison guard a blowjob for extra privileges...that kind of thing. Things that are gross in real life, but when it's a fantasy or a roleplay...
[He trails off, and he can't hold eye contact, jumps all too easily to the next topic.]
Where?
no subject
He tightens his arm within Eddie's, not letting him change the subject until they're finished. ]
Fantasy's totally different. [ His voice is quiet, but steady, reassuring, without an ounce of uncertainty. ] We can play around with scenarios like that. I wouldn't mind at all. Promise, and cross my heart on that one, too. In fact, I want to.
[ That said, Cisco moves on to explain: ]
You know I was telling you about that place - the holosuite? Where you can program in all sorts of virtual reality stuff? Well, I know how to write the programs. And I know how to sign up for a few hours. And how to lock the doors, and erase the logs.
no subject
When Cisco says in that genuine voice that fantasy is different than reality, that he not only wouldn't mind but actually wants to explore those things with him, Eddie chances another look at him, blue eyes on his face, and smiles a little shyly.]
Okay. If you're sure. I think you're the only one I'd really trust with that part of myself, you know? It's not really something I share with many people.
[Exhaling, he tries to let go of the embarrassment and looks over at Cisco again, his eyes warm as he listens to his explanation about the holosuite, his mouth curving into a slightly mischievous smile.]
Really, huh? So, hyper-realistic superhero fantasy where I can swoop in and beat up the bad guy and then get rewarded by the very grateful dude in distress? Sign me up...
no subject
I'll sign us up. Let you know when it's all arranged.
[ There would be a certain amount of prep work, sure, but as far as Cisco's concerned that's half the fun.
Since Eddie had been brave, opened up and shared some ideas of his own, it's only fair that Cisco do the same. The problem is that it's so much easier to listen and be accepting when it's Eddie. Talking about his own inclinations, well. That's significantly more difficult. Cisco makes them stop at several booths, first, feigning a great deal of interest in the things available there, before he finally clears his throat, manages an awkward: ]
Well, um. As for me, I've been sort of thinking lately that, well. From time to time it's fun when. You know. I'm a little bit... in charge. And telling you what to do and... what not to do, and when to do it.
no subject
Cheeks pink, he smiles at Cisco.]
Perfect. I'm...I'm really looking forward to that. And if you need any help with it, let me know.
[He goes quiet when Cisco starts talking about his own kink interests, attentive, eyes locked on his boyfriend, almost holding his breath while he watches him speak. And his breath catches in his throat when Cisco explains what he's thinking.]
Oh god. Yeah, I really like that too. When you boss me around and take control? I really like that, Cisco. I wonder if they have anything here that we could use for that...
no subject
[ And Cisco smirks, a hint of wickedness in it. He wants to make the program perfect, to let Eddie experience it for the first time while he's in it, rather than see the plans in advance, or any incomplete versions. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right. And Cisco's always taken pride in designing something and putting it together right.
He feels his face heating up, even his neck and his ears, but thankfully it doesn't show too much. At least Eddie's approval seems real and unfeigned. ]
If there's stuff for that anywhere, it'd be here.
[ He clears his throat once again, feeling strangely detached from his own words, but his heart is racing as he says them, deliberately light in a way that doesn't hide his excitement and nerves. ]
Though, um, if you and I are gonna get into that, we're gonna have to do some talking first. Rules, and limits, and um, safewords and stuff. So I know that- that when I'm pushing you, I'm not pushing too hard. 'Cause I wouldn't wanna... yeah.
no subject
[A little shrug, and he grins, cheeks pink.]
A surprise would be really exciting.
[Glancing over at Cisco, he sees the way he's flushing, and he comments that if there's stuff for his kink anywhere, it'll be here. For a long few moments, Eddie thinks about what kind of things could help with it.]
I wonder if there's any magic or anything that could give you sort of a...you know, limited mind control ability, or maybe bondage things. I'm interested in bondage, I know it's really basic but I'd be into it.
[The smile fades just slightly when Cisco speaks in a way that sounds put-on light, like he's trying to making light of something serious, something he's nervous about.]
I wouldn't want to put you through that either. I've never really discussed rules and limits and safewords. I just never came up in any of my other relationships.
no subject
I don't know about the mind control thing. It's not... it's not the same if you're not, you know. The whole point is you get to decide if you want to, um, behave or push back a little. It's unpredictable. Magic just kind of spoils that. But I'm totally down with bondage-
[ He says that a little too loudly, as they are walking past a group of strangers, who don't snicker or laugh or anything rude, but who do turn to look, which is almost as mortifying as if they had laughed. Cisco ducks his head, cheeks burning, and adds much lower: ]
-ahem. Anyway, uh. Ain't nothing wrong with basic.
[ There is a whole section of the expo dedicated to restraints and the like; Cisco steers them in that direction. ]
It's... come up a couple times, for me. Not often. And not since college. But uh, yeah. Good to decide on that sort of stuff in advance.
no subject
Really? So you want me to have the option to misbehave, huh? And what would you do if I misbehaved, Mr. Ramon, sir?
[It's soft, gentle, a little teasing, but there's an edge of seriousness under it too, an edge of suggestive flirting. Eddie doesn't want to push too hard in public, but he wants Cisco to be able to follow the lead if he wants, to keep doing a bit of dirty talking in public. Frankly, that idea's kind of hot.
Especially when a group of people hear Cisco talking about bondage and look at them. Eddie feels a little thrill of excitement.]
Oh. Yeah, I'd definitely be into bondage. Maybe those little cages, you know, that you wear and the other person is the only one with the key...
[It's Eddie's turn to go pink, and he glances away for a moment until he can regain his composure.]
Huh.
[He can't help but feel a slight hint of jealousy, just for a moment, at the idea of Cisco exploring all those parts of himself with other people. But the truth is, that has nothing to do with Eddie. They're exploring it now and that's the important part.]
So what's your safeword?
