[ She'll learn in time, likey. Maybe even next time they meet she'll be riding up on a cool new hover bike. It's actually more likely she'll be at the end of leashed puppy, honestly, but- Point is, she'll start settling soon. For as new a concept as it is, the woman likely won't be able to help herself. ]

I guess that makes sense. So, like, deep space- How deep we talking? Again, in my time, we're like... at Mars, max. Which is a pretty big deal for people.

[ Puppies are equally great. Plus, they're cuter. Jim 100% approves of either option, to be honest. Or both, both is good too. ]

Mars does not count as deep space, technically. [ Well, depends on what sort of 'deep space' they're talking about, but for the purposes of this discussion. ] We can go well beyond the limits of our solar system. The galaxy's divided into four quadrants, and we can get to the largest part of two of them. The other two quadrants not so much yet. But there are countless planets and stars even just on the Alpha and Beta quadrants, so there's plenty there to see, find and learn about.

[ Both it will probably be, honestly. Rose has a little bit of a problem with self-control. Many here don't know that... yet. But they probably will, before too long. ]

Huh, [ is all she says to that at first. It's fascinating, really. The idea of whole galaxy to be explored just beyond their solar system. ] What's stopping you from exploring the other two quadrants?

[ Who needs self-control anyway, that's for the lame kids and they both sit at the cool table. Obviously. ]

Too far away. We have pretty advanced technology but it still takes too long to get to either of the other two quadrants, at least for now. [ He shrugs. ] We'll get there. Baby steps, you know. There's still a lot for us to explore on the Alpha and Beta Quadrants anyway.

[ Clearly. The coolest cats around. ]

Huh. I guess I figured in the future nothing would be off limits still, but... That makes sense. We're still figuring out how the heck to get to planets within our solar system in my time, so. We'll get there. And you guys will too!

So, like, is that what you do? Go off adventuring to new planets and whatnot?

I like to think nothing's impossible. Some things just... take a little longer to become attainable.

[ But that hardly means one should stop trying. As a matter of fact Jim's not once given up on a thing after joining the Academy, and he's gotta admit, that tendency has worked very well for him so far. New life, all that. ]

A little bit of that, a little bit of politics and diplomacy, a little bit of dangerous stuff. It's not all fun times, and it can even get boring at times, but I love it. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

I wish more people thought like that, [ she says, a bit more honestly than she intends. It's not necessarily a mentality she shares but she admires it all the same. ]

That's good, at least. I feel the same about my job, I guess. I took it just because it was what seemed like it'd be easier but then... I really did love it.

At least some people do. [ He smiles at her. ] We push others along, that's alright. It's worked pretty well for me so far.

Yeah? [ He cants his head a little. ] What is it you do?

Nothing as interesting as spaceship captain, I can assure you, but- I'm a roadie. Was a roadie? I guess was since can't really travel too far with bands here, but...

That's what I did back home. Set up stage and fetched coffee for musicians way better than me.

A roadie. [ Jim frowns. Evidently it's not a word he's instantly familiar with. As she explains, though, he realizes he has seen movies and shows about it, and his face lights up in recognition. ]

Ah! Alright, yeah. I know what you mean now. [ He nods. ] Sounds exciting. Any musicians I'd have heard about?

Mm, maybe not. I only started working gigs in the-

[ Eighties, she almost says. But he knows her timeline now. Well, her fake timeline. She doesn't look at day over twenty-five (or so she's been told) so that wouldn't line up. ]

-early 2000s. So unless Pop and Rap starting to mix was your jam then nah, probably not.

[ Yes, because people who live for an unusually long time for whatever reason is definitely totally weird and unheard of, especially in a place like this.

Jim probably wouldn't even blink at that, actually. He's seen a lot of weird so far. This would be nothing. (Maybe almost nothing.) ]

Well, I've got a very eclectic taste, so— you never know, actually. [ He pulls up a holoscreen between them. She'll find a playlist there. ] Okay, give me a name. Let's get some music going.

[ Perhaps not here but Rose comes from a world where most people would blink at that, then- They'd try to kill her for it. So, most here will have to forgive her white lies. She's still getting to the idea that people on this moon won't hate her just because of what she is, just because they hear the word 'demon.' ]

Woah, nifty, [ she says to that pop up holoscreen. ] Uh. How about... some Nirvana?

[ He's seen a lot of weird stuff, honestly. But he also can't fault people for wanting to keep some secrets. Old habits (and old fears) die hard. ]

Computer, play some Nirvana. [ And promptly a playlist of shuffled Nirvana songs starts playing. See, it's kinda like having his own personal Siri. Except cooler because Siri can't take him to outer space. ]
