001 Getting Around Town [OPEN]
who: Willa Monday (
likeacoupon) & YOU (yes you)
what: February Catch-All and Out & About's
when: All of Frebruary
where: The Quarantine Bar & Grill, Communal Housing (floor 2), & Around the City
warnings: None Yet (will update)
The Quarantine Bar & Grill
[A charming smile spreads over Willa's lips as she works behind the bar at The Quarantine Bar & Grill. She isn't pleasant that often but she can fake it for the sake of getting better tips. She's dress a little nicer for work though she's still wearing jeans and a worn pair of black boots. Her blouse is a cute flowy white long sleeve top, mixed with her usual collection of necklaces, bracelets and rings. Her hair is braided, twisted behind her head and then tied back with a thick brown cord.
She's used to being behind a bar and is excited for the chance to make a little more money this way. She might have lied a bit when she got the position since Leo never actually let her work as a a bartender. Willa still thinks that she can do better than the honor system and a stupid glass jar.
When someone new steps up to the bar she's quick to flash them a warm smile.]
What can I get for you?
Communal Housing (floor 2)
[Willa finds this whole 'clean house' thing to be exhausting. She's only been in the city for a month and she doesn't have much in the way of personal items. She has her backpack with the circular wind chimes that Leo had given her and a few changes of clothes that she happened to have on her at the time she'd been taken. She's always been a light packer and, not counting the wind chimes, she doesn't have much in the way of keepsakes.
She's sitting on her bed, watching those who share her floor clean up and sort through their things. Willa is very interested in what people have or what they might be getting rid of though she takes great care not to show it. It can't all be junk and, who knows, maybe she can make a few extra dollars swiping stuff people don't want anyway.
An open left over container filled with chicken fingers is sitting in her lap as she sits cross legged on her bed. Left overs is one of the bonuses of working at a place with a grill. Willa pinches a piece of chicken between her thumb and pointer before dipping it in honey-mustard and then popping it into her mouth. It's cold but she's never been that picky about food.]
What's that?
[She spoke to one of her roommates, pointing to whatever it was they were currently holding. Willa doesn't see the harm in asking and she has a few hours to kill before she has to be at work.]
Around the City (scam)
[Willa has a small bucket in her hand as well as ten or so flyers that she'd swiped from one of the nearby churches. She's making her way through the streets, calling to those passing by while holding out the bucket in her hand.]
Make donations to the Church of Light.
Help those in need.
[She's a very skilled liar and doesn't miss a beat as she asks people for donations. She'll give a small amount of it to the church to save face but keep the majority of the money for herself. Tips aren't the only thing that's going to get her a bike faster and she's already tired of walking everywhere in the city.]
Your support will go to outreach programs, food for those falling on rough times and city restoration.
[It's a very convincing lie.]

[ooc: Feel free to hit me up with any ideas or the prompts from the test drive or lunar new year. Willa is going to stick to the city proper. You can also hit me up on plurk:
mizuyoko. We can plan something and I can write us a starter.]

[Willa cracks a half smile as she grabs a rag to wipe down the counter.]
That sounds a little sketchy. [Just in case he hadn't noticed his own phrasing.
Willa likes the nickname 'Mr.Guard' though she supposes she could use his actual name. She hasn't meet Wally in person before but she recognizes his face. Willa has the tendency to find people on friendr after texting or talking with them. It isn't all that difficult and it lets her put a name to a face.]
Are you going to elaborate or am I allowed to imagine the worst?
no subject
Nah, it's nothing like that. It's actually the opposite of that.
[ He pauses for a moment, long enough for him to take a sip of his whiskey, before he decides it wouldn't hurt to be a little more open with his powers. Everyone who could link him to The Flash title already knows his secret identity anyway. ]
I just have a few speedster-related projects that I promised to do. Y'know, ordinary type things that I can get done in a fraction of the time it would take anyone else.
no subject
So it's the best?
[Her head turns as someone calls to her from the opposite side of the bar. Willa takes a moment to listen to his rebuttal before tossing the washcloth on the sink behind the counter and holding up a finger to Wally.] One second, I have a comment but I'll be right back. [Willa quickly steps down towards the opposite end of the bar and with her work smile, she takes care of a few people there before coming back to stand in front of Wally. He's fun to talk to but she still needs her tips and that involves spreading her time.]
Okay. So you're a speedster. I actually don't know what all that entails. Can you move any part of your body really fast or is it just your legs? [Willa's question is a little tactless but in a rare moment, her curiosity is earnest.] And what is it that you do? A super powered delivery boy?
no subject
You could say that.
[ He takes the time Willa is busy elsewhere to down the rest of his drink. Good thing to since she can't see the way he grimaces slightly because it was stronger than he'd thought it would be.
When she does return, he doesn't appear to be bothered by her questions at all. ]
I suppose that's part of my job. I'm actually on the Search and Rescue team. And my powers aren't just a legs thing.
[ In order to demonstrate, his right hand begins to rapidly vibrate, and he passes it right through his empty glass much like a ghost would. There's a smirk on his face when he finishes because his powers are the best. ]
Pretty cool, huh? It actually took me awhile to perfect that little trick.
no subject
[Willa's lips pull into a smile. She didn't actually know the full range of jobs that were given to the perimeter guard but it made sense to have a group dedicated to finding people or locations beyond the wall. Though that made them sound like forest rangers. If forest rangers had the potential of fighting monsters and insects that have gotten to big for their own good.
Her eyes drop to the glass and his demonstration. That- is not what she's expecting.]
Okay, that's pretty cool. [There really is no denying that.] -as long as you don't break the glass.
I'm not paying for that. [Her tone is light and teasing as she points down to the glass that he's using for his demonstration. Willa had never had abilities like that though she's toyed with learning magic since her arrival to the city. She hasn't been more to the gift like Timo but she's been told that she can learn how to cat charms and other small trinkets.]
no subject
It is in the job description. Though I should probably advise you not to get lost in the first place.
[ He briefly wonders how much he's allowed to talk about his job. While what he's revealed isn't exactly earth shattering, and he knows better than to talk about specifics, he isn't what one would call a military person. It probably would have been a good idea to have paid more attention during orientation and briefings instead of zoning out from boredom.
He playfully waves a dismissive hand at the idea he'd break the glass. ]
No worries. I stopped making things explode when I do that years ago.
[ His expression is one where it's hard to tell whether he's joking about that or not.
He's totally not joking.]So do people have powers where you're from or is this place a new experience on that front?
no subject
I promise you that if I get lost, it isn't going to be on purpose.
[Willa has no plans to explore the woods or any other area beyond the walls that protect the city. They're wild and untamed and she really doesn't have a way to protect herself.
Considering the number of times she's gotten in trouble in Florida, she doesn't want to test her luck against monsters and whatever else might be out there. At least Walter isn't here to drag her into trouble and inspire gangsters to point guns at her head. It's kind of nice being away from Florida, even if she misses her friends there.]
Noted. [Willa smiles and shakes her head. She has a feeling that he isn't completely joking.]
Not exactly. Some people are born with gifts, my cousin Timo can read the future but not me. It's not hard to get used to. Looks like everyone here has that something that makes them stand out.

[ Though Wally actually did enjoy the battle that broke out with the beetle-like creatures a week or so ago. It's been some time since he's been able to let loose with his powers so to speak, and after the battle was over, he was physically exhausted and aching all over. But it was the good kind of ache that let him know he put in a hard day's work.
There's something about the way she smiles and shakes her head that has him thinking she was able to decipher he wasn't joking about the exploding thing even if she let it go without further comment. ]
The portal does seem to bring in a lot of interesting people regardless if they have powers or not. When you say your cousin can read the future, do you mean like a fortune-teller type deal? Or, is it a little more complex than that?
[ He's a little curious because magic-like things work in several different ways where he's from. ]
no subject
[Willa understands wanting to use the full range of your skills. She's used to being told to walk between the lines or follow the straight and narrow. Except, that isn't her. She's intelligent, cunning, a lair and knows how to get things using unconventional methods.
Methods that usually get her in trouble.]
It does and it's more like a fortune-teller but I can tell you that he's the real deal. I knew a few witches but I didn't dabble with that kind of stuff. [Considering the one time she'd talked to a witch she'd also come face to face with a dead body.] I don't really know all the details about it but, hey- [She flashes him a smile.]
If I find out, I'll let you know first.
no subject
I'll hold you to that. We actually have magic back where I'm from. I know someone whose powers work based on her saying words backwards or something. I'm still not a hundred percent sure how she does what she does. Really powerful stuff, though.
[ He would never admit it to his magic-based friends, but the powerful type of magic they possess always makes him a touch uncomfortable. It's not because he doesn't trust them, he absolutely does, but the lack of control he has over it is a feeling his scientific-leaning mind doesn't appreciate. He's not as bad as his Uncle Barry, but he likes to know how things work.
Wally begins to tap his fingers on the bar again for a moment before there's a sudden gust of wind, and by the time Willa can even register the sensation the breeze brings, he's standing in front of her once again. The only clue that he even left beyond the unexpected gust of wind is the two mustard covered hot dogs on buns now in his hands. ]
Don't worry, I paid for these. [ There's an impish grin on his face as he holds one of the hot dogs up. ] You can have one if you want?
no subject
Willa's head cants thoughtfully to the side as she considers what kind of magic she might be able to learn. There are most likely nuances or rules that she doesn't know yet. Not that Willa is keen on following rules but magic and the power that comes along with it is something that she takes very seriously.
Her thoughts cut at the sudden rush of air tugging at her hair. She places the glass she'd been drying for the last ten minutes down behind the counter as Wally reappeared with hot dogs.] You know we do have food here. [Except that Willa is smiling as she takes the offered hot dog. She doesn't actually care if he paid for it or not.]
Thanks.
[She hasn't eaten anything in hours and doesn't see anything wrong with a quick hot dog break.]
Do you often randomly dash away and bring back hot dogs?
no subject
I know they have food here, but I would have had to wait a few minutes.
[ Patience has never really been a virtue he has possessed even before he got his powers. It's one of the biggest differences between him and Barry. Add in that this was food related, the wait of a few minutes would have seemed like a lifetime for the speedster. ]
And it's not always hot dogs. Sometimes it's pizza, tacos, and on rare occasions, even ice cream. I have a faster metabolism than most people so I have a pretty big appetite.
[ While it's true he has a big appetite, he doesn't have the insistent need to eat like some with his powers do. But it always serves as a good fallback excuse to explain his love for eating. ]
no subject
Now you're speaking my language.
[She smiles as she takes a bite of the hot dog. Willa doesn't even care that she's at work, it's probably fine. She wipes away some mustard from the corner of her mouth before she continues.]
I didn't know they had all that food here. Next you'll be telling me there is Chinese take out.
no subject
I actually don't know if most of the food here is the real deal or some alien variation that is incredibly similar. It tastes good all the same.
[ He still makes a face as he examines the hot dog in his hand for a brief second, before shrugging his shoulders, and taking a huge bite that leaves very little of his food left. His friends back home always used to joke that the way he eats could be considered a spectators sport.
He at least has the good decency to wait until he finishes swallowing before he speaks again. ]
I suppose it doesn't really matter as long as it's not moving. [ His lips quirk up into a half-smile at his own joke. ] A guy has to draw a line somewhere.
no subject
I'll have to keep that in mind. I've been looking for some good old American Chinese food since I arrived. [Which tastes very little like authentic Chinese food.
Will leans over the counter and curls her fingers to beckon him to give her his trash.]
And that's where you draw that line? [Wally is strange but Willa enjoys talking to him.] So do you want another drink or are you going to keep showing off? [It doesn't sound like she minds which he chooses.]
no subject
I'll be sure to keep an eye out for that Chinese food of yours. There's gotta be some around here somewhere.
[ It takes just one more bite for Wally to finish off his hot dog, and when Willa gestures for his trash, he hands it over as directed with a smile. ]
What can I say, I have standards. [ Though the line would be drawn a few steps before moving food in reality. ] And as much as I enjoy showing off, I think I'll take a beer instead. Gotta keep some tricks in my bag for next time.
no subject
It isn't technically illegal for her to be surviving alcohol, just drinking it.]
Thanks.
[She doesn't actually expect him to find her Chinese food but the thought is nice.]
I'll look forward to the next time you decide to show off. [It's pretty cool.]
One beer coming up. Do you care what kind? We have a few different ones on tap. If you don't know just tell me light or dark and I'll pick for you. [For someone who doesn't drink a lot, she knows a lot about alcohol.]
