[Yeah he figured that's not what Neil meant, but jokes were easy sometimes. They made things better. He didn't really want that awkward seriousness to come back up either]

Me? I'm a special vehicles operator for the Perimeter Guard. I get to pilot the cool machines.

[Not like he hadn't been doing that for while already]

[ Something a little bittersweet flickered over his face, gone almost as quickly as it came. ]

Yeah, maybe I should. [ He tapped two fingers lightly to the eyepatch. ] I need some practice.

Yeah, it's a pretty cool job. And it's a job that helps protect people here. So... a win-win.

[He saw that flicker on Neil's face and then the comment about needing some practice. It kind of hurt. Even though he hadn't really wanted to admit it, when he had first been recruited he had aimed to be a good sniper like his brother.

Yeah, we should do go sometime. Maybe get in some practice.

[ He paused, just a beat, then nudge Lyle with one shoulder. ]

Don't go easy on me just because I'm half-blind, okay? Right now, I think you're the only person I'd want to practice with.

Oh of course I won't. [He nudged Neil's shoulder back] Have to get you back to snuff.

I'm counting on you.

[ He pauses, then drops his voice to a conspiratorial whisper. ]

We'd better not tell Haro I'm going to be your new partner for a while.

[Lyle smirks at that and leans in, his voice also dropping to similar whisper]

I think that might be for the best. But I think he can hear you. He's like right there.
