[Hey, Lola... someone was calling you.]

Ivar had been upstairs playing with Winter, playing a modified game of peekaboo where he'd hide her favorite two-headed teddy underneath a blanket, and she'd have to pull it away to reveal the teddy underneath. After many delighted cries, she finally grew tired, and Ivar put her down for a nap. As he made his way downstairs, he could smell something tantalizing being cooked in the kitchen.

He wheeled his way over there and peeked his head in. "Something smells good," he told Lola. "Need any help?" Not that Ivar was any great prodigy in the kitchen, but he could at least chop and stir when told to do so.

Gyda had been given an amount of money from the woman they called a social worker, and she'd been in the streets looking in the shops. She'd bought some garments earlier (currently wearing the trousers and sweater dress), but the shops were interesting enough to just look in.

The smell of food drove her to the kitchen. She knew what most of the tools were of course, but the thought of cooking without fire and not having to draw water from a well, she all found it a lot to learn. For the time being, she was content to just watch.

"What is it you're making?" She walked over to the stove.

Uh... hey. It's me...

I was wondering if you were doing anything tonight.

"A stew is always an excellent idea." Over a thousand years separated Ivar from Lola, but the food was something that was a connecting factor. The Norse had always been fond of hearty foods, things that could fill them up quickly and for a long period of time. Stews were a common thing to be found all over Western Europe.

"Got it." Ivar wheels over to the cabinets, opening them up, and gathering up the necessary supplies. The house felt just a little bit homier now that his sister was living with them.

"It doesn't smell burnt, so that's a good sign." Bread and stew were familiar foods, even if the ingredients were strange.

"What's in the stew?" She stood by the stove, looking at Loka as well as what was in the pot. She couldn't get over the woman's hair; she knew some of the men colored their hair using lye soap, but that was red-gold, not blue.

Ivar goes over to set the table for the five of them, setting down all the plates and the utensils. He's gotten better at using silverware, but sometimes, he still just eats with his hands. At the mention of Gyda, he brightens up.

"It's been good. Complicated but good. Gyda actually died four years before I was born, so I never got the chance to know her. I always wanted a sister though. Having all brothers was a bit much at times." He pauses and then adds on. "My father has also shown up in the city."

Ivar grabbed some glasses to set them out on the table too.

"I asked if Gyda wanted to stay here so that I could keep an closer watch on her than if she was still in communal housing. Our father didn't show up until a few days later. As for why he's not here--" He shrugged. "--I suppose he feels the need to have his own space." Besides, a thirtysomething year old surrounded by a bunch of teenagers was just bound to end badly for everyone.

You wanna do something? Like... I dunno... we could get dinner... maybe see a movie or something?

[Yes, he was asking her out on a date. Or trying to.]

[At least it was still decently early in the day...?]

Maybe like around 7?

[That would give her a few hours, yet. He certainly didn't need much time, but he knew that she might be working or be at classes and all that, so he'd give her time to get home and freshen up. He'd at least learned by now that Lola needed to have her 'look' set right for things.]

"Smell is usually a good way to find out." SHe'd been baking with her mother since she was old enough not to spill or be clumsy around the fire. "Most of the foods here are new, but I've never been that picky."

Food was always hard to come by back home, even on a well to do farm. Even if she grew tired of late winter rations, it was either eat or go hungry.

She opened her mouth to say more, but then Lola's hair went to green and suddenly it felt like she'd forgotten how to close it. "How...?" She reached over to gently lift up a lock of her hair. "Did you do that?"
ragnarsson: ([12.16] What is this)

"I've only had brothers before this. I always wanted a sister." It would have broken up the monotony of having four older brothers, which would have been a bit much for anyone, but especially for Ivar, who spent a majority of his childhood trying and failing to keep up with them.

"Loved her, of course. Children have always been one of his great weaknesses." Ragnar had always loved his children with an intense nature, so it stood to reason he'd be the same with his granddaughter.
