[His schedule is a strange one these days, but he'll be found behind the counter today, cleaning a mug from a previous customer. The door opens and he directs his limited gaze over toward the man, smiling pleasantly.]
[That voice get the recognition going. There's what he remembered, and suddenly his grin is a little wider.]
So it has, so it has! Well now, what I'd recommend depends on your tastes. I'm afraid I'm not much help if you're a coffee lover, but I've had my share of the tea we sell and I've got a few in mind.
We, is it? [He didn't know that had been Shiro's first steps into Riverview as well. Then again, he hadn't spoken with the man since, and it was hard to say. They barely knew each other.] Not quite happy anniversary yet, then, but give us a few more months.
[He turned and gestured at the menu posted overhead on a wall behind the cashier's stand, one he couldn't read but knew well enough anyway.] My favorite up there is still a debate between the chamomile and a sweet green tea we sell, but the earl grey reminds me of home. I'll take it on a day I'm feeling up to London's streets again. The chai is interesting, but I'll have to be in a mood for it. Anything you're particular for?
[Shiro shrugged] It seemed like we had arrived around the same time based on the conversation we did have.
[At the gesture, Shiro turned and glanced at the wall behind Undertaker, taking a moment to debate the options. It didn’t take long for him to come to a conclusion]
I’m kind of partial to green tea, but the earl grey sounds like it might be interesting as well. I'll try that one.
[He really didn't know when anyone arrived. If they were there when he set foot in the city, he assumed they'd been there before him at some point. Now? Not so much.] Maybe we did. I'll trust in that. We'll have to have an anniversary celebration.
[Don't make him be serious about that. He will.] Ah! Earl gray it is. Anything special to go with it or will tea do you just fine?
[He's not sure if he really wants to celebrate this place, but for the moment he's not going to complain. It's been nice, but also weird at the same time.
He does think about that for a moment] How does one normally drink earl grey tea?
[He can be half serious about that if he needs to.] Whatever you wish. Maybe I'll make a cake for the occasion.
[He giggles briefly, then looks back to the menu board again.] I take it with a bit of milk and honey, personally, but you can drink it with lemon, without, with vanilla, without.
[He surprises a lot of people, turns out. Funny how appearances do that for him.] Quite often. Everything behind the glass today was made by me, but I make good use of our oven at home after work just as well.
[He notices! But most of his customers want coffee, so he isn't balking over it.] Earl cray with milk and honey it is. [With a nod, he turns and sets about getting Shiro's order together.] Any occasion for this particular cup of tea?
Really? You made everything there? [He shifted to look at the case] Amazing. I can cook, but baking... the closest I get is stuff out of a box, which is not really baking.
[At least he realizes that's essentially cheating at baking]
An occasion? Trying something new. I usually drink coffee or green tea.
[He shrugs.] Within boundaries. They like to keep everything neat and uniform here, so I'm not allowed to play with the recipe as I'd like, but it's just what you describe. There are mixes all ready in the back and we everything up and throw it in the oven when we need more.
[They cheat at it too, see?] I'm not quite fond of it, but it's for the sake of the cafe. It's what customers have come to expect. They don't like much variety, I've found, except in their drink.
[Water finished steaming, he turns and fills a cup and sets it up just as Shiro wanted before handing him his tea.] And here we are, just as you like.
[He leans casually against the counter between them, head turning toward the pastry display though he can't really make out what is where on it just from sight alone.]
Maybe a bit of nutmeg for some of the biscuits. There's a tomato sandwich in with the mix that could use a touch of basil. Nothing too fancy, but these spices are in good supply here. I'd do just about anything with them, to be quite honest, just to see how it all turns out.
[Shiro thinks about that as he takes a sip of the tea that he had been handed. It was not a flavor he'd ever had surprisingly enough, but it was good. Of course now, his only reference for how it was made was the way Undertaker made it]
Those do sound like they'd work very well. More exciting than something basic.
[He grins and nods to the appreciation.] I'm glad you like it. There's more where that came from, but you should stop by the house one day if you're so inclined and we can play about with flavors. I've been meaning to do just that, but my housemates are biased, you see.
That would be fun. Sure. We'll have to do that at some point. Yeah, probably not the easiest when the store has a certain taste they want their food to have. Your housemates have certain things they like?
[Does he have a reason for that invitation? Maaaaaybe.] They're fond of certain teas, but I'm afraid we're not much for coffee there. If you're a coffee drinker, I might well like to get your help in finding blends that work. It all tastes like bitter scrub to me. I've not had a tongue for it in ages. Would you like?
[Shiro is oblivious to any possible ulterior motive that Undertaker may have, but he cautious in general around people]
I do drink coffee for the most part so if you need help with that, I'd be happy to do that. I wouldn't claim to be an expert at it, but I can at least pick a decent coffee.
Cafe!
Good evening! What can I get for you today?
woo
Hey, it's been a while. [Like when he arrived] What would you recommend?
aaaa!
So it has, so it has! Well now, what I'd recommend depends on your tastes. I'm afraid I'm not much help if you're a coffee lover, but I've had my share of the tea we sell and I've got a few in mind.
/runs around/
[Shiro debated for a moment. He had come in for coffee, but...]
Sure. I'd be interested.
/chases!

Yeah, can you tell earl grey is not Shiro's beverage of choice? But he's really okay with him realizing that it isn't]
I guess I'll try it with milk and honey.

Playing around with recipes? What sort of things would you do if you could do anything you wanted?
