( open ) community center charity event!

who: EVERYONE & ANYONE (& their moms and dads and dogs)
what: Community Center Charity Event!
when: November 11th (I'm late I know, I'm sorry)
where: Riverview Central Community Center
warnings: none expected!
note: This is an open log, so hop in, write your own starter, and tag around!

ON THE WEEK leading up to November 11th, people will find plenty of posters around the city, as well as be handed flyers at times about the Community Center Charity Event. The Central Community, which is the chosen location for the event, will also be seeing an increased flurry in activity, with the place being prepared for the oncoming event. Play fields will be tended to, a few minor repairs will be made, and finally on the day before, the whole center will be set up and decorated for the event. There’ll be music and cheerful colors all around, with the main theme being sports activities, and the organizers —Steve Trevor, Bill Potts and Magnus Burnsides— will do their best to make anyone feel welcome and have a fun and different day!

TRUE TO ITS THEME, sports will be the main attraction of the day. From team sports such as football, basketball or baseball, to individual sports such as boxing, tennis, swimming or gymnastics, anyone will be free to gear up and join in, whether against one of the monitors, joining a team at random or going up against a friend just for fun. Everyone will welcome a new player, and random additions to existing teams will be all too welcome!

Other physical activities will also be ongoing, the most popular ones being laser tag, rock climbing and dodge ball, although plenty others will be happening throughout the day. Feel free to come up with your own games and activities, or even start your own game if you feel like it!

To add to the ongoing sports matches and activities, there will be various demonstrations and presentations, led by someone who’s both skilled and knowledgeable, and will be happy to answer any questions. Most demonstrations will be related to various martial arts and gymnastics, but do feel free to go with another theme if you want, or even set up a demonstration of your own. The whole point is to teach new things and share the knowledge, so have at it!

IF RUNNING AROUND EXERCISING and getting all sweaty isn’t your thing, fear not! There are plenty of activities that will exercise the mind more than the body, and they’re just as entertaining (if not more, depending on what each person’s into). At the game corner of the center there will be a long row of various arcade games which anyone will be welcome to play— no money is necessary to go for a round, although people are encouraged to donate a modest amount which will be added to other donations happening throughout the event. There are also a few TV screens set up with console games— the titles may come straight from some people’s worlds, or the names or concepts be oddly close to some that people are familiar with. All the games have multiplayer options, which can range from two to four players, since the event encourages socializing and group activities, but there’s no problem if you feel like playing a game by yourself!

There is also a long table with various board games on offer, which can range from complex tabletop RPG to other familiar games such as Clue, Monopoly, Ludo or even checkers and chess, as well as a number of different card games. Both familiar and strange brand new games will be available, so feel free to come up with your own and who knows? Maybe learn something new!

ALL THROUGHOUT THE DAY, there will be various open workshops happening, and everyone will be free to join in at any time. A schedule is available to anyone who wants to make plans and take their pick, and some of the available themes will be cooking (from cake decoration and chocolate making to cooking 101 and food dressing), arts and crafts (from ceramics, pottery and sewing to drawing and painting), and a few sports-related workshops, although there will be plenty other themes (feel free to come up with your own and assume they’re happening!).

Some of these workshops will be led by more familiar faces in the Quarantine: Eddie Thawne will be leading Boxing for Beginners, Bucky Barnes will be teaching some basics in Beginner Self-defense, Ava Orlova will help anyone who wants to learn some Fencing, and Steve Trevor will be here for any kitchen disasters to learn at least some basics during Cooking for Beginners.

A SMALL AREA OF THE CENTER will be dedicated to donations, which will vary in kind. Anyone’s free to donate clothes, toys, books and other various things, which will be either offered to anyone in need, or sold during the event for symbolic prices. Full profit of these sales will be saved along with any monetary donations, and used to help improve life in the Quarantine, whether that means restoring a public park or building, or setting up more play fields and playgrounds all around the city.

A FEW HOURS INTO THE AFTERNOON there will be a football game, and everyone will be welcome to join in and watch, as well as cheer for either or both the teams. Central and Eastern teams will face off against each other, coached and led by Steve and Bill respectively, and the game will be refereed by Magnus Burnsides.

Get yourself a scarf, a flag, a stadium horn, and cheer! Whoever wins the game, there’ll be plenty of celebration and no hard feelings on either team. (It’s not like there’s a cup to be won or anything— for now, anyway.)

ALL THIS EXERCISING AND ACTIVITY is bound to open up anyone’s appetite, and the buffet area is the perfect spot to fill that grumbling stomach of yours. Offering a variety of snacks, from deep fried stuff and sandwiches to hot dogs and pizza, as well as plenty of energetic drinks, various juices and the like, and a myriad of sweets and desserts on offer, everyone will find something to their liking here.

Feel free to grab a plate and help yourself, take a seat next to a stranger and hopefully make a new friend— or, if you’re still too energetic to sit down and eat, just poke at the snack plates and satisfy your hunger as you walk around.

Yep, a whip. [Izzy can't quite help the smile that pulls at her mouth, just because that's a relatively common reaction when people see and hear about her preferred weapon. It definitely conjures certain imagery for most, at that. Still, Izzy's proud of what she can do.] It was a gift and it just stuck, though I'm pretty good with a number of other weapons too.

[Izzy shrugs with that and then follows it up with a nod...because it is true that some people might find it an interesting challenge. Though, the fact that Steve makes sure that he clarifys his interest is a little amusing. And Izzy laughs lightly.] Dualy noted that you aren't one of them, but you do have a point there.

[Following the instructions, Izzy is actually comfortable with the easy way that he takes things...bit by bit and not overwhelming her, at all. He's not speeding ahead, he's not frustrated at mistakes that were made earlier, and the friendly nature goes a long way, actually. So, as far as Iz is concerned Steve Trevor is certainly a good teacher.] Well, we'll cook it to your tastes, then.

[She continues following his instructions.] Plus, with my track record dry is a little close to burnt. [She winks, to show him that she's only joking, not that there's any pouting or upset involved.] Better safe than sorry!

So, do you plan on checking out any of the booths for yourself, or are you teaching for the entirety of the event?

[Izzy nods, having always thought the exact same thing. Whatever weapon works for a person, and makes the difference, seems like the right one. It's different for everyone. One thing is for sure, Izzy likes the calm, easygoing manner that Steve Trevor has.

That makes it easy for her to follow the instructions that she's given, turning the oven off and removing the eggs from the heat after a couple of beats with a grin.]
I can always risk it later, when I haven't already epicly burned pooding in front of someone I've just met. [She teases before nodding.]

Well, I'd call the event a success, and say you deserve to hear job well done. [Iz smiles widely.] Which team? I'll have to cheer them on!

Well, I did have help. So, I'll take my fair share of the credit, but....well credit given where it's due. [Izzy gestures toward Steve himself with a smile, definitely glad to have something that is quite a bit more edible than some of the other things that she'd concocted.

Taking the fork, Izzy grins, nodding again. People definitely seem to be having fun; this is the sort of thing that Wayward Pines failed at with their stepford version of community activities.]
Well, fun and charity or not I'll be cheering you and your team on just the same. I'm here to support after all.

And we definitely shall! This is the best part! [Izzy takes her for, carefully getting herself a chunk of the egg before bringing it up to her mouth, other hand cupped underneath to keep from dropping anything, and blowing on the morsel before popping it into her mouth and contemplating the taste for a split second. Then comes the nod and the smile.] Definitely my best work so far!
