ON THE WEEK leading up to November 11th, people will find plenty of posters around the city, as well as be handed flyers at times about the Community Center Charity Event. The Central Community, which is the chosen location for the event, will also be seeing an increased flurry in activity, with the place being prepared for the oncoming event. Play fields will be tended to, a few minor repairs will be made, and finally on the day before, the whole center will be set up and decorated for the event. There’ll be music and cheerful colors all around, with the main theme being sports activities, and the organizers —Steve Trevor, Bill Potts and Magnus Burnsides— will do their best to make anyone feel welcome and have a fun and different day!

TRUE TO ITS THEME, sports will be the main attraction of the day. From team sports such as football, basketball or baseball, to individual sports such as boxing, tennis, swimming or gymnastics, anyone will be free to gear up and join in, whether against one of the monitors, joining a team at random or going up against a friend just for fun. Everyone will welcome a new player, and random additions to existing teams will be all too welcome!
Other physical activities will also be ongoing, the most popular ones being laser tag, rock climbing and dodge ball, although plenty others will be happening throughout the day. Feel free to come up with your own games and activities, or even start your own game if you feel like it!

To add to the ongoing sports matches and activities, there will be various demonstrations and presentations, led by someone who’s both skilled and knowledgeable, and will be happy to answer any questions. Most demonstrations will be related to various martial arts and gymnastics, but do feel free to go with another theme if you want, or even set up a demonstration of your own. The whole point is to teach new things and share the knowledge, so have at it!

IF RUNNING AROUND EXERCISING and getting all sweaty isn’t your thing, fear not! There are plenty of activities that will exercise the mind more than the body, and they’re just as entertaining (if not more, depending on what each person’s into). At the game corner of the center there will be a long row of various arcade games which anyone will be welcome to play— no money is necessary to go for a round, although people are encouraged to donate a modest amount which will be added to other donations happening throughout the event. There are also a few TV screens set up with console games— the titles may come straight from some people’s worlds, or the names or concepts be oddly close to some that people are familiar with. All the games have multiplayer options, which can range from two to four players, since the event encourages socializing and group activities, but there’s no problem if you feel like playing a game by yourself!
There is also a long table with various board games on offer, which can range from complex tabletop RPG to other familiar games such as Clue, Monopoly, Ludo or even checkers and chess, as well as a number of different card games. Both familiar and strange brand new games will be available, so feel free to come up with your own and who knows? Maybe learn something new!
ALL THROUGHOUT THE DAY, there will be various open workshops happening, and everyone will be free to join in at any time. A schedule is available to anyone who wants to make plans and take their pick, and some of the available themes will be cooking (from cake decoration and chocolate making to cooking 101 and food dressing), arts and crafts (from ceramics, pottery and sewing to drawing and painting), and a few sports-related workshops, although there will be plenty other themes (feel free to come up with your own and assume they’re happening!).
Some of these workshops will be led by more familiar faces in the Quarantine: Eddie Thawne will be leading Boxing for Beginners, Bucky Barnes will be teaching some basics in Beginner Self-defense, Ava Orlova will help anyone who wants to learn some Fencing, and Steve Trevor will be here for any kitchen disasters to learn at least some basics during Cooking for Beginners.
A SMALL AREA OF THE CENTER will be dedicated to donations, which will vary in kind. Anyone’s free to donate clothes, toys, books and other various things, which will be either offered to anyone in need, or sold during the event for symbolic prices. Full profit of these sales will be saved along with any monetary donations, and used to help improve life in the Quarantine, whether that means restoring a public park or building, or setting up more play fields and playgrounds all around the city.
A FEW HOURS INTO THE AFTERNOON there will be a football game, and everyone will be welcome to join in and watch, as well as cheer for either or both the teams. Central and Eastern teams will face off against each other, coached and led by Steve and Bill respectively, and the game will be refereed by Magnus Burnsides.
Get yourself a scarf, a flag, a stadium horn, and cheer! Whoever wins the game, there’ll be plenty of celebration and no hard feelings on either team. (It’s not like there’s a cup to be won or anything— for now, anyway.)

ALL THIS EXERCISING AND ACTIVITY is bound to open up anyone’s appetite, and the buffet area is the perfect spot to fill that grumbling stomach of yours. Offering a variety of snacks, from deep fried stuff and sandwiches to hot dogs and pizza, as well as plenty of energetic drinks, various juices and the like, and a myriad of sweets and desserts on offer, everyone will find something to their liking here.
Feel free to grab a plate and help yourself, take a seat next to a stranger and hopefully make a new friend— or, if you’re still too energetic to sit down and eat, just poke at the snack plates and satisfy your hunger as you walk around. |

That's easy enough, except that those encounters are constant, whether it's the thing on the wall that lights a room's lamps without a flame, or the ways of getting from place to place that aren't horses or his feet, or the glass pictures that seem to fill the same functions as ravens and don't require a maester for their use. His confusion is mostly private, taking place in the rooms he shares with Daenerys, but not always, and while there's a little less of it every day, it still happens twenty times or more.
And so Daenerys has insisted that they both attend the Community Center Charity Event, specifically with an eye to learning a little more about what they've gotten into, and Jon has agreed.
This woman isn't familiar to him, but she's around his own age, and she seems friendly and as though she might be partly in charge of all this. He overhears her voice, and it sounds like a good Southron voice... not something from home if he were at home, but familiar here, for all that. He stands a short distance from her for a while, looking over the field, then eventually turns to her.]
Forgive me, but you're one of the leaders of the games? If I were back where you came from, would I find things like the things I'm seeing at this event today?
[OOC: Jon has a strong Northern Accent and is probably wearing more modern clothes that were picked up at the Harvest swap.]

I'm one of the team captains, yeah. D'you want to play? We could use another player.
[ He doesn't seem familiar with football, though. Bill smiles, ] The game's one from back home, yeah. It's not too hard to learn. You just kick the ball across the field and into the other team's goal, and try to stop them from kicking it into your goal.

[He peers at the field critically, then glances back at her. She smiles at him like his friends from home smiled at him, even before he'd made anything of himself.]
So it's about territory, but a little like a tourney. What happens if they kick the ball into your goal?
[Are there critical injuries? This place doesn't seem like it has that sort of mood about it.]
no subject
[ No injuries. It's a bit better than professional football in that way. Though most of those players are faking their injuries. ]
no subject
A good thing too, as that would defeat the purpose of today. ]
I'm going to want a rematch, just so you're aware. [ He warns with a playful smile and a raised eyebrow. ] But for now, congratulations on your win.
no subject
Bring it on, Trevor. [ She smiles, putting her hands on her hips. ] I'll take you on any time.
no subject
Oh, really? [ He quirks an eyebrow at her, head tilting to the side. ] Alright then, let's go. Right now. You and me, one on one. Doesn't have to be football, you just pick the game.
no subject
Alright, mate... You ever play darts?
[ Bill gestures to a nearby dart board. It's one of the child friendly ones with plastic pegs instead of the sharp darts they have in pubs in England. ]
no subject
I do well enough.
[ Is it really cheating if he doesn't state his real skill level or how good an aim he has? No, absolutely not cheating, he's sure.
He makes his way over to the dart board, collecting all the yellow darts and handing her the red ones. ] You go first.

no subject
Not bad.
[ He waits for her to step aside and takes his spot behind the line, getting into a steady position and aiming carefully before throwing. The first dart lands on the seven in the triple ring, the second hits the twenty in the inner single, and finally the last one manages to land on the single bull, just a few millimeters above the bullseye, bringing him to a total of 66 points. ]

[ Bill collects her darts and positions herself at the line. She takes a deep breath trying to psych herself up. Come on, Potts! You're representing Bristol here...
All in all, she throws well, but not well enough to catch up to Steve's score. ]
Well, I suppose that leaves us tied.
no subject
At least he doesn't gloat much about it when the game ends, and he offers her a smile and a friendly handshake, much like when their football game ended. ]
Better luck next time. [ All in good fun, of course. Steve's not all that competitive, anyway. ] How are you enjoying your day so far?
no subject
[ Dusting her hands off, Bill looks around the room, smiling at all the people who've come to help out. ]
It's been a good day! It's nice to see so may people coming together like this.
no subject
[ Granted, he's not as good as Charlie, but he rarely ever misses his target. ]
It is. And it works well with this month's holiday; the whole sharing and giving spirit going around.
no subject
Yeah... They do have an awful lot of holidays here, for such a small city. It seems like there's a new one every month.
[ She's quick to put up her hands. ]
Not that I'm complaining!
no subject
He grins at her reaction, waving a hand at her. ]
I didn't think you were, and I know what you mean. Looking up information on this place, I can tell you with certainty that there is a new one every month. It sometimes piles up with other events and celebrations that the people living here organize on their own. I'm not really sure why, but it's certainly unusual to me. Hard to keep up with all of them, too.
no subject
Have you done much research on this place? Its history, customs? I've been curious but I haven't gotten around to digging in yet.
no subject
Not really. I probably should, working here and all. We even have a library. [ If he's working for the community, then he probably should know as much about that community as he can. ] What I do know is that a lot of it is a miscellany of different cultures and customs. It's possible that's how the different holidays and celebrations here evolved to the way they are now.

There are enough of us Earthlings here, I'm sure there'll be something for Christmas. Even if it's not quite what we'd expect.

[ He could always make a few, but he's not exactly artistically inclined. ]
no subject
And we can make ornaments! That would be a great thing for the community centres to do, actually. There's plenty here that shines and sparkles. The kids would love an arts and crafts project.
