[OPEN] Halloween Haunt at The Apothecary
who: Magnus Bane (
appetitive) & anyone who'd like to come!
what: Halloween & Samhain party featuring transformative potions
when: October 31st at dusk through November 2nd at dawn
where: The Apothecary (formerly known as The Quarantine Bar)
warnings: please tag threads individually as needed!
While the drink menu is the main event, there will be plenty of other ways to find some ghoulish entertainment. Tables are laden with a variety of both sweet and savory appetizers which all paying customers are welcome to enjoy. Because of the length of the party, the kitchen will be serving a limited menu of main-course items during typical mealtimes throughout the days. And because no party would be complete without music, there will be a "live" skeleton band performing jazz, rock, and the occasional but obligatory Halloween song upon request—please use this power wisely and save your fellow party-goers from two hours of continuous Witchy Woman.
Given that this is a Halloween party, costumes are highly recommended and will be rewarded with a free drink upon arrival. If you come without a costume, bartenders will recommend trying the Monster Mash or Werewolves of London potions in order to get you more into the spirit of Halloween. Though the bar will be dotted with large couches, plush armchairs, and piles of floor pillows, dozing guests will be encouraged to go home and sleep between festivities. If you're unable to handle over thirty-six hours of continuous partying, go enjoy a nap and then return to the bar for another round later on!

The Apothecary's Halloween Haunt
For the entirety of October, The Apothecary bar has been and will continue to be decorated in deep shades of purple and orange, not to mention a whole lot of black and an array of convincingly grim yet decidedly elegant decorations. The real party doesn't start until the sun sets on Halloween night, stretching past the witching hours and through the following day in celebration of the lesser-known Samhain. From dusk of October 31st to dawn on November 2nd, the bar is alive with magic largely thanks to the menu of six alcoholic potions whose effects are posted on menus around the bar. These menus will be placed in clear sight with moving images of each drink so that guests are fully aware of their magical properties—if someone hands you a mystery drink, you're encouraged (but not obliged) to find out what it'll do to you before partaking. Each potion lasts an average of three hours, or until an antidote is drunk. And though multiple potions can be "stacked" by drinking them without an antidote in-between, party-goers will be cautioned that some potions may mix to create strange results. Luckily, the host will be attending from dusk to dawn in order to sort out any dangerous effects.

He clinks his glass against hers, then downs his drink, letting the sugar cube sit on his tongue. Even though he knows it won't burn her, or hurt her in any way, he tips his head back before he exhales, blowing a jet of flame as casually as one might exhale the smoke from a cigarette.

Jack, well, so far he's not making too many mistakes from what Iz sees. Taking the drink passed to her Izzy lifts it and gives a nod, a bit of an excited anticipation pulling at her features. She hasn't tired this one and that's the only reason that it's there. She knows it'll be fun, but experiencing it is a major component of said fun.
"Ready. Hot and ready even." Izzy teases with a laugh, not minding the cheese in this case. Normally she wouldn't smile at something like that, but Jack makes it work....probably because of the conviction that he puts behind it. Not many men, or people in general, can make cheesy flow. "You've already tried this or I'd try to match you with a retort about you." It's not a real complaint, just another natural tease given before she clinks her glass against his and then lifts the glass to her lips.
The taste is pleasant and the sugar cube's sweetness tickling her tongue is definitely pleasant if nothing else. At least this one should be easier to control than the last drink's effect. Watching Jack go for it, she laughs before tilting her head back and forming a small 'o' with her mouth and blowing--the jet of flame rising into the air above her and after only a moment she can't help the laugh. This is much easier. And...still fun. Shifting the sugar cube in her mouth Izzy grins at Jack. "Very fun. Much easier than the one that gives you magic. I like this one."
Shifting the cube back, though it's dissolving more and more by the moment, Izzy blows out a short burst of flame, mirth hitting her eyes as she does. It's ridiculous how something so simple can be enjoyable. And bring out a little bit of a childlike wonder in a person. "Figured out any tricks with the flames in your first round or no?"

Once he gets it, he blows the next plume of fire directly into her face, but gently. He knows (from sticking his hand into his own flame about twenty minutes ago) that it's brisk and cool, won't burn her, might actually be refreshing.
Hopefully she won't flinch away or freak out. Though, if she does, that'll tell him something. He hopes she doesn't, though. He hopes she finds it as delightful as he did.

The shadowhunter is still, waiting for what Jack's going to show her. And as he blows the flame at her face (gently of course) the sensation is different. Sugar cube cheeked for the moment, she can't help but giggle at the cool, refreshing sensation or the fact that the feather on the side of her headband is practically flapping as the air follows the path passed her face and sliding slightly off in the path.
She's not freaking out, just sort of bemused that something that could seem so dangerous has such a pleasant sensation. And that this is the trick he thought of too. Magic! She can't quite hep some of the glee she feels at something so simple. As high maintenance as she might be, Izzy isn't difficult to please...at least here. Moving her hands so that she can shift the hold and take his forearms instead, she grins. "I have to to try that...may I?" Izzy shifts the sugar cube to her tongue, showing him by sticking her tongue out a bit, giving Jack the visual that her's is almost gone and this is the chance for her to give it a try too.

Jack's pretty sure he wouldn't have it in him to deny her anything. So he nods and grins, and if her sugar cube runs out, he's absolutely going to try and kiss his into her mouth. He's pretty sure it won't get him slapped. "Go for it. I'm sure most of the men in this room would give a limb to have you blow them." All right, so that was a little more filth than cheese, but the grin on his face it nothing but pure delight. It's true, yes, but it's also a stupid joke, and Jack loves stupid jokes.

"Well, their luck isn't as great as your's because you're the only one that's going to get that pleasure. And without losing any of your limbs." Is the easy retort that Izzy can't help but give, tacking on, after a moment, as she slides her hands upward and puts them on his shoulders, one a little more on his neck than shoulder, but he doesn't seem the sort to mind, "Yet, anyway." Izzy grins, a small dab of her sugar cube left as she breathes in through her nose and then shifts her sugar cube and blows the magical flames at Jack's face. It's nice and full for all of a couple of beats before the cube has dissolved to pretty much nothingness, causing her flames to putter out.
"You didn't quie get the full affect." Izzy gives a playful pout, mainly teasing, but mind definitely on the same wavelength as JAck, wondering just how much sugar cube he has left to work with. And she's standing relatively close still, not quite having the desire to move yet.
