The Apothecary's Halloween Haunt

For the entirety of October, The Apothecary bar has been and will continue to be decorated in deep shades of purple and orange, not to mention a whole lot of black and an array of convincingly grim yet decidedly elegant decorations. The real party doesn't start until the sun sets on Halloween night, stretching past the witching hours and through the following day in celebration of the lesser-known Samhain. From dusk of October 31st to dawn on November 2nd, the bar is alive with magic largely thanks to the menu of six alcoholic potions whose effects are posted on menus around the bar. These menus will be placed in clear sight with moving images of each drink so that guests are fully aware of their magical properties—if someone hands you a mystery drink, you're encouraged (but not obliged) to find out what it'll do to you before partaking. Each potion lasts an average of three hours, or until an antidote is drunk. And though multiple potions can be "stacked" by drinking them without an antidote in-between, party-goers will be cautioned that some potions may mix to create strange results. Luckily, the host will be attending from dusk to dawn in order to sort out any dangerous effects.

While the drink menu is the main event, there will be plenty of other ways to find some ghoulish entertainment. Tables are laden with a variety of both sweet and savory appetizers which all paying customers are welcome to enjoy. Because of the length of the party, the kitchen will be serving a limited menu of main-course items during typical mealtimes throughout the days. And because no party would be complete without music, there will be a "live" skeleton band performing jazz, rock, and the occasional but obligatory Halloween song upon request—please use this power wisely and save your fellow party-goers from two hours of continuous Witchy Woman.

Given that this is a Halloween party, costumes are highly recommended and will be rewarded with a free drink upon arrival. If you come without a costume, bartenders will recommend trying the Monster Mash or Werewolves of London potions in order to get you more into the spirit of Halloween. Though the bar will be dotted with large couches, plush armchairs, and piles of floor pillows, dozing guests will be encouraged to go home and sleep between festivities. If you're unable to handle over thirty-six hours of continuous partying, go enjoy a nap and then return to the bar for another round later on!

◇MONSTER MASH FLAVOR flat, warm; spiced rum, cranberry juice, grenadine EFFECTS Forget your costume at home? Don't worry, because drinking this potion while result in a full-body change into a classic Halloween creature, with a twist: it's either the sexy version, or the scary one. Though the drinker will be partially recognizable beneath it, the change can be a costume of its own. Some common transformations include but are not limited to: vampires, werewolves, zombies, witches, demons, and Frankenstein's monster	◇THRILLER FLAVOR flat, chilled; whiskey, bitters, sugar, orange zest EFFECTS If you're craving a change, this is the drink for you. The potion will bring about a random shift in the color of the drinker's hair, eyes, or both. Differences can range anywhere from natural shades to neon hues, as well as a variety of patterns and multi-colored or mismatched options. And don't worry, any facial hair you may have won't be left out of the fun!
◇TIME WARP FLAVOR flat, chilled; light rum, creme de menthe, lemon juice EFFECTS For those party-goers looking for a whole new perspective on Halloween, this drink offers two unique experiences. When sharing with another guest, knock the glasses together and drink simultaneously for a body swap. Feeling really adventerous? Get multiple people to join in on the fun! If you're drinking alone, you'll find that your biological sex will change from male to female, or vice versa.	◇WEREWOLVES OF LONDON FLAVOR sparkling, chilled; vodka, chambord, sparkling limeade EFFECTS Get ready to howl at the moon, or maybe fly off towards it, after trying this drink. Shortly after imbibing, partakers will manifest any number of animal traits, though all from the same animal. Perhaps it's as simple as a pair of bird's wings, or a full set of cat ears, tail, and eyes. The potion will pick up on any animal-like traits you may have, so snakes and rats beware.
◇I PUT A SPELL ON YOU FLAVOR flat, chilled; gin, vermouth, creme de cassis EFFECTS This potion is for anyone who's ever wanted to live out their dreams of being a teenaged wizard at boarding school. Though it may take a few tries to get perfect certain tricks, drinkers will be able to perform low-level spells with their hands such as: levitation, creating colored sparks, turning items invisible, elemental manipulation, summoning or conjouring items, short-distance teleporation, and a number of other simple tricks. (Any violent abuse of these abilities will result in immediate and forceful administration of an antidote and expulsion from the bar.)	◇HIGHWAY TO HELL FLAVOR flat, warm; absinthe, sugar, heatless fire EFFECTS Though this drink doesn't contain a potion, does it really need to when you're drinking something that's still on fire? This shot of absinthe, though adorned with a multicolored and edible flame, will warm you through and have you breathing the same cool fire for as long as it takes the sugar cube to dissolve on your tongue.

◇DON'T FEAR THE REAPER

These shots are free of alcohol and provide an antidote to every other drink on the menu. One splash of this delightfully chilled and refreshing drink will reserve all transformative effects as well as void all magical abilities. And though it is non-alcoholic, it does not provide any sobering qualities.

It would still be visible. [Yes, he's nitpicking details, but that's part of the teasing game between them. At least until he gets more than a glare aimed at him. Izzy's been more laid back about his jokes and banter than she was in New York, something that's been a relief to him. Her heels are dangerous no matter what outfit she's wearing.]

It's probably the same as your whip. I've watched you for years, but I could never use it the way you do.

[Finishing his own drink, he studies the glass, focusing on it not being there. Invisible. Then he makes the kind of flourishing gesture that Magnus usually uses while casting spells...

And ended up with a rose instead of an invisible glass. Flushing slightly, he offers it to Izzy.]

I guess you need swirly hand gestures to make magic work?

Yeah, if I decide to stick my head in the trash can. [Okay, even if she just looked in the trashcan, but still. Alec's nitpicking leads to Izzy's playful waspish reply. It's really the spell's fault. Or something like that. She's not really upset with him, though, it's more of a game than anything else. Though, it is frustrating not to be good at something interesting like this.]

That...is definitely true. You're too...tall and don't have the grace I do to handle a whip. Izzy can't hold back the smirk on her face, though her tone is teasing; she can't imagine her brother wielding the whip successfully--the fluidity needed and the command isn't really his thing so much as the keen eye from a distance with.

Narrowing her eyes at her brother's actions she half expects him to make his own glass disappear. The red in his cheeks gives him away, though. And as she reaches for the rose, Izzy can't help but laugh.] You're not any better at it than I am, at least? Neither of us quite have the flourish down. Suppose we need lessons.

[Alec rolls his eyes, but his expression is fond, not annoyed. He'd worry if Izzy wasn't teasing him about his more literal interpretation of things. She does it less than she does before, sometimes sounding like she's proud of him instead of being frustrated by her older brother.]

And I'd look less terrifying with it than you do. [That was part of her success with the weapon too. It isn't one that's expected and it usually makes beings pause when they see her with it. There's other reasons as well... but Alec doesn't like thinking about how guys sometimes look at Izzy when she has her whip.]

No, I'm not. I've been trying for flowers most of the night. That's the first one I've managed. Magnus' magic is easier to use than what the potion creates. [But Magnus' powers might have been easier since they were shared instead of suddenly given.] Do you want to ask for lessons or should I give him puppy dog eyes until he gives in?

Well, you can't pull off the terrifying look with everything, big brother. After all, that wouldn't be fair. [She teases, knowing that some are fooled by the frown that Alec finds so easily. He intimidates enough people with that and the tone that he's so fond of. It can't work in every situation, though.

After all, that might be too much power in his direction.] Plus the height gives you an added intimidation factor, so you have to have some downfalls.

[Izzy sticks her tongue out for a moment playfully.] Well, at least you finally managed to get it right....even if belatedly. [Izzy holds the rose up, teasingly, thinking it's pretty good even if it took him quite a few tries to get here. Looking from her gift to her brother Izzy can't help her grin.

Alec really does seem happy here. Even if he guilts himself about things. And does the whole world on his shoulders thing more than he should. She can tell. Talking about simple things like puppy-dogging Magnus for lessons...it's a far cry from some of the worries of home.] Oh, I think I can win him over too, but you might get it done faster...and with less effort on my part. Seeing as he has a hard time resisting you.

[Iz winks, enjoying herself.]

I'm not that bad, Iz. At least not since we arrived here. [Things had been getting better after he moved out of the Institute but Wayward Pines and now Quarantine had been what had given Alec a real sense of freedom. Here his siblings and Magnus are safe and that's what's important since they're helping others so he can be happy without the fears he'd had in New York.

Scrunching his nose at her comment about the rose, he grabs another glass to try it again. One for Izzy and one for Magnus. If he can cast the spell again.] If you wanted fireballs, I could manage it. Or arrows.

[Even if the concept of a glass arrow seems wrong, he knows his favored weapon well enough that when he snaps his fingers the glass transforms into a replica that could fit in the palm of his hand.] Maybe you can make tiny whips? Cupcakes for Jace? [His parabatai almost spent as much time in the kitchen as he did sparring.]

I should let you try to sweet talk him just for variety. We might need my puppy dog looks for something important later.

I never said you were. [Iz smiles at her brother, knowing that since Wayward Pines thre's been a vast difference in him. After all, he's been living in what can be considered relatively normal circumstances...minus a few things here and there. He hasn't needed to intimidate anyone as of late. And it obviously makes a humungous difference considering just how happy he's been lately. How happy Magnus makes him.] And who said intimidating people is always a bad thing?

[She teases, shifting to watch her brother with the new glass he's procured.] You're managing more than I am. [She's not too sure about the suggestion of making tiny whips, though. Much as she knows her favored weapon....this whole magic thing isn't coming easy to her. Maybe she's overthinking it. Or maybe it's just so different from what she normally does that she has to figure out how to think different. Still, she can't help the teasing scoff.] I think Jace prefers soft, edible cupcakes not glass ones. I'll let him stick with the baking. They taste better, anyway. [She winks.]

Oh, so we should experiment with who can get what they want from your husband? [Izzy can't help her laugh.] And save the big guns... [She points at her brother.] For when we really need it.

You usually did, but back then you were trying to get me to quit hiding. [He hadn't appreciated her efforts before, but he had appreciated her support when he'd been trying to figure out his sexuality and his relationship with Magnus.] That might have been because I was glaring at the guys you were dating.

I've used Magnus' magic before so I have a frame of reference. [It's not the same but it did help. He has no idea how to make a glass disappear but he seems to know how to make flowers. Which should become a never ending source of teasing later.] Directing it's kind of like hitting a target, but I'm not sure how to get the spell to do what you want.

We should so he doesn't get bored of my puppy dog looks. We don't want to lose that advantage. [It surprises him that he's not actually worried about Magnus getting bored. After weeks of fearing it before and after the breakup, he thought he'd be more concerned by the idea.] And the two of you should get time together. He keeps acting like all of you are just my family instead of us all being family.

And I got what I wanted. Basically. [Izzy teases with a smirk pulling at her mouth. Alec hasn't been hiding for a little while now. He isn't hiding from himself, Magnus, or anybody else now. And she's pretty sure that her brother knows she still supports him, period.] Sometimes it was funny. [Izzy shrugs, but does give her brother a look; they both know that isn't always the case, but then again anybody scared off by him...not really going to last in the long run either.]

Well, that gave you a leg up. Much as I now about the effects of magic...practice is another thing. [Tilting hre head at Alec's further explination, Izzy can't quite imagine it the same way. Though they've fought together for a long time, their styles are very much different. He strike with precies arrows, she strikes with flicks and snaps, or sometimes to envelope and control. Might be something there to help, though, maybe.] I'll just have to keep trying. You know me, even when I get frustrated I'm not one to just give up, big brother.

[Rolling her eyes, Izzy doesn't bother to hold back her laugh.] That might happen when hell freezes over. Magnus adores you, and I highly doubt he's going to get there. [To her they have something real that is going to last.] I try to include him, but I can do a little more work on that front, I'm nothing if not a welcoming and inclusive sister-in-law.

[She thought that he had felt like one of them before, at Wayward Pines, but she does suppose things were...different there too.]

Basically? [He wasn't sure what else Izzy might want him to do. He'd come out of the closet, potentially traumatizing Maryse and most of the Clave when he'd kissed Magnus. He's married and has no problem talking about his husband so he can't really think of anything that he could do to 'stop hiding'.] I've already apologized for how I treated Simon. I learned my lesson. [If Simon shows up in the city, Alec will make sure to apologize and find ways to treat him as part of the family instead of someone who completely confuses him... as long as he doesn't catch Izzy and Simon in his bed again.]

You'll get it eventually, Iz. I doubt that anyone learns magic quickly.

[He's not so sure that Magnus might not become immune to the pleading looks, but he won't argue with his little sister over it.] I know you include him, but he's always shocked when I tell him that all of you are his family too. Maybe it's been so long since he had a family that he doesn't always remember that he's a Lightwood now too.

[Their parents would probably disown him for saying that...]

Well, I can't say completelye or I get no wiggle room. [The tease falls out easily. Alec had grown a lot. Honestly, Izzy had no actual complaints. Mostly she just enjoys keeping her brother on his toes. Overall, though, she's happy with the progress he's made and the fact that he's happier than she can ever remember him being before.] I'm teasing you, Alec. And I'm sure I have no idea what you're talking about with Simon. [Izzy shrugs that off, flippantly, having...sure expressed interest in him, but it was never anything serious for her. He'd been too wrapped up in clary for his own good--and for her tastes, honestly.

So, for the moment Alec's bed is safe from any intruders. Unless Jack plays his cards right at some point, anyway. Even then probably not.]

You say that, but I like being good at the things I do. [Iz points out, moving on from the subject quickly and tilting her head. Magnus fits in as far as she's concerned. She couldn't have picked someone better than him for her brother, ultimately, when it comes to her getting along with someone outside of the family.] Well, I'll work on that. You know me. I'm very good at reminding people of things I want them to remember...and of getting through to people on emotional subjects.

[She definitely had poked and prodded her brother enough to help him. In her mind, at least.] Because he is a part of this family...speaking of...where is Magnus? Have you managed some quality time with him yet?
