The Apothecary's Halloween Haunt

For the entirety of October, The Apothecary bar has been and will continue to be decorated in deep shades of purple and orange, not to mention a whole lot of black and an array of convincingly grim yet decidedly elegant decorations. The real party doesn't start until the sun sets on Halloween night, stretching past the witching hours and through the following day in celebration of the lesser-known Samhain. From dusk of October 31st to dawn on November 2nd, the bar is alive with magic largely thanks to the menu of six alcoholic potions whose effects are posted on menus around the bar. These menus will be placed in clear sight with moving images of each drink so that guests are fully aware of their magical properties—if someone hands you a mystery drink, you're encouraged (but not obliged) to find out what it'll do to you before partaking. Each potion lasts an average of three hours, or until an antidote is drunk. And though multiple potions can be "stacked" by drinking them without an antidote in-between, party-goers will be cautioned that some potions may mix to create strange results. Luckily, the host will be attending from dusk to dawn in order to sort out any dangerous effects.

While the drink menu is the main event, there will be plenty of other ways to find some ghoulish entertainment. Tables are laden with a variety of both sweet and savory appetizers which all paying customers are welcome to enjoy. Because of the length of the party, the kitchen will be serving a limited menu of main-course items during typical mealtimes throughout the days. And because no party would be complete without music, there will be a "live" skeleton band performing jazz, rock, and the occasional but obligatory Halloween song upon request—please use this power wisely and save your fellow party-goers from two hours of continuous Witchy Woman.

Given that this is a Halloween party, costumes are highly recommended and will be rewarded with a free drink upon arrival. If you come without a costume, bartenders will recommend trying the Monster Mash or Werewolves of London potions in order to get you more into the spirit of Halloween. Though the bar will be dotted with large couches, plush armchairs, and piles of floor pillows, dozing guests will be encouraged to go home and sleep between festivities. If you're unable to handle over thirty-six hours of continuous partying, go enjoy a nap and then return to the bar for another round later on!

◇MONSTER MASH FLAVOR flat, warm; spiced rum, cranberry juice, grenadine EFFECTS Forget your costume at home? Don't worry, because drinking this potion while result in a full-body change into a classic Halloween creature, with a twist: it's either the sexy version, or the scary one. Though the drinker will be partially recognizable beneath it, the change can be a costume of its own. Some common transformations include but are not limited to: vampires, werewolves, zombies, witches, demons, and Frankenstein's monster	◇THRILLER FLAVOR flat, chilled; whiskey, bitters, sugar, orange zest EFFECTS If you're craving a change, this is the drink for you. The potion will bring about a random shift in the color of the drinker's hair, eyes, or both. Differences can range anywhere from natural shades to neon hues, as well as a variety of patterns and multi-colored or mismatched options. And don't worry, any facial hair you may have won't be left out of the fun!
◇TIME WARP FLAVOR flat, chilled; light rum, creme de menthe, lemon juice EFFECTS For those party-goers looking for a whole new perspective on Halloween, this drink offers two unique experiences. When sharing with another guest, knock the glasses together and drink simultaneously for a body swap. Feeling really adventerous? Get multiple people to join in on the fun! If you're drinking alone, you'll find that your biological sex will change from male to female, or vice versa.	◇WEREWOLVES OF LONDON FLAVOR sparkling, chilled; vodka, chambord, sparkling limeade EFFECTS Get ready to howl at the moon, or maybe fly off towards it, after trying this drink. Shortly after imbibing, partakers will manifest any number of animal traits, though all from the same animal. Perhaps it's as simple as a pair of bird's wings, or a full set of cat ears, tail, and eyes. The potion will pick up on any animal-like traits you may have, so snakes and rats beware.
◇I PUT A SPELL ON YOU FLAVOR flat, chilled; gin, vermouth, creme de cassis EFFECTS This potion is for anyone who's ever wanted to live out their dreams of being a teenaged wizard at boarding school. Though it may take a few tries to get perfect certain tricks, drinkers will be able to perform low-level spells with their hands such as: levitation, creating colored sparks, turning items invisible, elemental manipulation, summoning or conjouring items, short-distance teleporation, and a number of other simple tricks. (Any violent abuse of these abilities will result in immediate and forceful administration of an antidote and expulsion from the bar.)	◇HIGHWAY TO HELL FLAVOR flat, warm; absinthe, sugar, heatless fire EFFECTS Though this drink doesn't contain a potion, does it really need to when you're drinking something that's still on fire? This shot of absinthe, though adorned with a multicolored and edible flame, will warm you through and have you breathing the same cool fire for as long as it takes the sugar cube to dissolve on your tongue.

◇DON'T FEAR THE REAPER

These shots are free of alcohol and provide an antidote to every other drink on the menu. One splash of this delightfully chilled and refreshing drink will reserve all transformative effects as well as void all magical abilities. And though it is non-alcoholic, it does not provide any sobering qualities.

Taako! [Izzy greets with a warm grin, despite the frustration that she was just battling. Seeing him at the party is a good thing as far as she's concerned. After all, it's been a while since they've run into one another...since the last party that the both of them attended, actually. So, seeing him again is definitely a positive.

Even if he was witness to her outright pouting.] I was going for invisibility...and I didn't think to try that, actually, so thank you for the suggestion! [Izzy nods, turning her eyes back onto the glass and re-focusing. It doesn't happen quickly, but after a couple of beats the glass disappears. And Izzy grins.]

Well look at that, you were right! [Iz shifts to look at her friend a little better.] How have you been, I think I only manage to run into you at parties.

[Despite everything else about him suggesting otherwise, Taako can be patient when the situation calls for it, and he's more than happy to wait as Izzy figures out the trick to the invisibility.

Once she gets it right, he even casts prestidigitation to create a little shower of celebratory sparks]

That's actually a big secret of mine. I only exist at parties, as soon as I leave it's just - poof - I disappear into thin air.

[He's the worst.]

[She can't quite help the peels of laughter that escape, watching the sparks float in the air and downward. Taako is still the character that Izzy remembers him to be. And that's a wonderful thing because big personalities like his draw you in. Iz likes being drawn in, and she likes people.

So, after giving a celebratory clap, she turns Taako's way and smirks.] That sounds like a great reason to throw even more parties, to summon you into existence more often. [The shadowhunter winks, playfully.]

Really, though, how have you been...and more importantly are you enjoying yourself so far? [She gives a vague gesture around, referring to his time here at the party.]

You won't hear any complaints from me on that front, about parties or like, how I've been.

[Honestly, he could complain a lot, between the ghosts and the memory bullshit, he's had a shitty month and is ready for it to be over, but he doesn't see the point in dragging that up.]

I've got almost all the gang here, business is going great, and I think I'm dating someone? [They haven't properly discussed it.] It's all good at Taako central.

Well, I'd think something might be wrong with you if you were to pass up a good party, considering they're the only place you exist. [Izzy teases with a smirk.] Good to know you're not big on complaining, though. It's something new about you. [The shadowhunter winks, keeping her playful demeanor up easily; this is a party...and with social gatherings come social and playful Izzy.

Parties aren't where serious conversations happen, though, and Izzy's aware of that fact. So, she moves forward with the conversation, unable to help the amused tilt of her head.] You think you're dating someone? I mean, that sounds great to me, but you might want to figure that particular thing out for sure.

Either way, congratulations? [Izzy teases, mirth in her eyes.]

Hey, if it'd been a shit party I'd have plenty reason to complain, but this is pretty fucking rad.

[He's probably getting way too convoluted with this dumb joke, but he does mean that about the party, it's been a few couple of evenings and he's glad he made the effort.

As for the dating, he laughs, waving a hand as if to dismiss her concerns.]

Thanks, darling, I'm sure we'll do that boring talking shit eventually. But what about you, any exciting developments on the Izzy front?

And Magnus doesn't know how to throw those sorts of parties. [Izzy wisely informs, a laugh escaping. She's pretty sure it's out of the realm of possibility. Magnus doesn't know how to thty that flops because he puth effort and care into the events that he hosts. And that shows in the details that he's put together for this very shindig.] As you can tell. He's really outdone himself this time.

[The drinks alone make this party stand out; she's never seen anything quite like it before. So, for her, this is definitely going to be a party for the ages and one that he's going to have to work up to living up to again.

Never one to dig when she can see someone isn't interested, Izzy allows Taako to wave the conversation off, turning it in a different direction. And she can't help the grin. There aren't many new developments with her at the moment, anyway, but she smiles--as if she's holding a secret anyway.] Well, the talking is never as fun as the other stuff. I'm afraid I don't have any developments as exciting as dating someone. [Though her mind does go to Jack and Draco, two very intresting friends that she's connected with. And she's not completely hopeless on that sort of front.] But I have met some interesting people that are making this place more and more interesting. And of course doing my part as sister-in-law to help with this.

[Izzy gestures around at the party.] Other than that normal, boring life....forensic pathology, shopping, etc. I'll work on finding something more exciting to share next party, though. [She teases.]

[Taako has the sense not to say something like mine was better, because even though he's firmly of the belief that it was, there's no point saying that to the host's friend? family? He's not exactly sure here, he doesn't pay enough enough, though Izzy's use of sister-in-law clears that pretty quickly.]

I dunno, meeting some interesting people sounds exciting to me - [He only makes that sound a little dirty, because he's terrible] - there's a lotta room for that in this place.

[Seriously he's smooched more people in the six months he's had here than he had in like five years back in Fearun.]

It definitely hasn't been bad, you won't here me complaining. [Izzy grins, giving Taako a look because that isn't quite the way that she meant what she said.] And this place is good for meeting people, I wouldn't have run into you if it weren't for being here.

[Yep, that's her bringing it around to something a little bit less dirty. Even she has her moments, despite normally being one to go there just as easily. Especially if it involves those that she knows well. Really, though, she hasn't done much smooching...or anything beyond really getting to know people and hanging out with them.

It's a step, a process.] Speaking of interesting, have you tried one of the drinks?

Well, shit, you should write these guys a thank you letter just for that honor.

[He's smug as all get out, but at least he's playful about it, enough that he's probably just joking. Maybe 50% joking.]

And I have, I gave that body swap one a try, on my own and with a friend. It was pretty fun.

I'll get on that soon. [Izzy teases with a wink. Smug though Taako may be, she enjoys him, whether it's the joke that he takes it to be or not. He amuses her. And that's really the important part.]

You went all in, then, brave! I approve! [Izzy nods, amusement pulling at her face.] I haven't worked my way up to that particular one just yet. I got a little sidetracked with magic, if you couldn't tell.

I cannot blame you for that, magic is pretty rad.

[He wiggles his fingers in the air, letting illusory flames dance over his knuckles.]

What kinda shit can you do?

You could say that again. [Izzy grins and then lets out a bit of a delighted laugh at the flames dancing over her friend's knuckles. She definitely appreciates magic. Her own ability to manage much, well, that's another thing all-together.

Gesturing to what she had been doing before with the glass, Izzy chuckles at herself. Nobody could ever say she has a bad sense of humor. Or is a completely poor sport.] You've seen the extent of my magic. Not all that practiced...yet. I'll have to check back in with you later when I've got a few more tricks in my pocket.

Well, you're doing a lot better than I was, first spell I tried.

[To be fair, he didn't have a helpful potion and he was in his teens when he started learning magic.]
