who: Odo & OPEN
what: Checking out his new environment
when: October 13th
where: Some park near the residential area
warnings: None, will update if needed.
For how many years he spent living on Deep Space Nine – or Terok Nor, as it once was – Odo was almost intimately familiar with its corridors, shops, and cargo bays. Criminals always knew the secret ways through vents or hidden deck plates to conduct their business – and therefore so did the constable.
However, here the buildings and roads were a mystery – a mystery that had to be solved if he had any chance of finding out exactly what had happened to him.
Not being familiar with the native fauna, Odo took the form of a Tarkalean hawk to take his impromptu aerial tour. He did his best to make a mental map of the area, but soon it would be too dark to make any more progress.
He looks for a suitable place to land, and finds one on a stone bench on the cusp of a street light. Anyone looking would see the bird turn into a shimmering liquid before growing in size and changing in shape to something much more human in appearance.

He sits up properly when he spots the bird not too far out, and leans curiously forward in the saddle, chin between Toothless' ear fins. "That's a big bird, huh, bud? I wonder if we can get closer-"
Hiccup spots it finding a landing spot, and then... "Woah!" Toothless makes a startled sound himself, head cocked, wings flapping again to take them down.

The constable watches as the creature and its rider set down. Once it's apparent that he's not being attacked, he lets of an expressive huff of air in attempt to cover how shaken up he was. When he speaks, he's not sure which of the two he should address first.
"Do you always make that much of a racket when you land?"

Hiccup is the one that answers. "Uh, well, usually just when we see a bird turn into a man."

"What is that?" The constable lets any retort he might have had slide. He was equally curious now. "Some kind of pterodactyl?"
Dr. Mora had made him study various different forms from many worlds to emulate, but this creature was not among them. It made him wonder what it might be like to take the same shape. He would have liked the opportunity to study the form closer, but he resists stepping forward. He had been in a similar position before - treated like an amusing oddity.

"This is Toothless," he laughs, rubbing the dragon between the ears as Toothless purrs out a rumbly greeting. "He's a night fury, a dragon." The only one of his kind, but he doesn't add that. "He's friendly, don't worry. Hi, I'm Hiccup." He holds out a hand to shake.

This place was full of all sorts of strange things, why not an imaginary creature from human fantasy stories or holo-programs? He accepts the information for now, since there really was no other option. Still a fascinating and beautiful form.
When the young man offers his hand, Odo takes it naturally. "Odo," he gives his own name in turn, though he represses a question about the origins of Hiccup's name. It was probably a better name than unknown sample or nothing, anyhow. The dragon, however...
"Toothless... Does he not have any teeth?"
sorry about the delay, i had to go on hiatus in nov
"They're retractable, actually. The name just kind of stuck. Didn't it, bud?" Toothless makes a noise that might be agreement, bumping his broad head against Hiccup's side.
no prob, I'll probably be slooooww though D=
"May I approach him? I'd like to take a closer look, if possible... or should I be asking him instead?"
Odo looks from Hiccup to Toothless and back again. He wasn't sure about the level of the dragon's consciousness, and he didn't want to be rude.

"It should be fine, he won't bite. He'll let you know if you do something he doesn't like."
