TRAVELING, CAMPING
[ Itâs early in the morning when the team sets out from the Perimeter Guardâs base of operations; they have a long ways to go to reach the jungle, which lays beyond the outerwall that surrounds the abandoned city. The Guard has equipped them with supplies for traveling, including camping gear, containers for collecting the Lababerries in, and of course the information they need to reach their destination within the jungle.
Passing through the abandoned city before reaching the outer wall is quicker than the traveling they will do outside of the wall; while the abandoned city is grown over, there were still paths that were relatively clear for the party to travel along – there wonât be much of that out in the jungle. That does not, however, preclude any sudden appearance of the monsters that may have broken through the outer perimeter of the city.
Traveling concludes during when night falls, which puts the team just within the confines of the city: it would be easier for them to take on what may lie beyond the fence once theyâve rested for a night. They camp out around what would have been an old house on some small plot of farmland at the very outskirts of what would have been settled before the Quarantine was compromised. At the very least, it provides some solid shelter in the event of a freak weather event, but vines and other vegetation have overtaken it to the point that it was really barely a shell of its former structure. The area around it is open and well-suited for setting up tents and a fire and everything else.
Members of the team, of course, take turns keeping watch through the night.
The plan would be to find a suitable campsite for the following evening within the jungle but away from the area where the Lababerry plants grow; it wouldnât be wise to camp near carnivorous plants, after all, although thereâs nothing to say that there arenât other dangers lurking within the jungle. After examining the search area and locating the plants, they would harvest the fruits and then journey back, likely making this a four-day trip in total. ]
SURVEYING THE SITE
[ After about half of a dayâs travel into the jungle from the outer perimeter, they reach an area that had been marked down as habitat for the Lababerry-growing, carnivorous plants. The party will have to make camp at least some distance away come nightfall lest they be eaten in their sleep, but in the meantime they can get to work by surveying the habitat area and pinpointing the locations of the plants; both for data collection purposes and to make it easier for the seasonal harvest that will take place once the plants are once-again dormant because, in an environment as rapidly-growing as the forests outside of the Quarantine, things are constantly changing.
The Lababerry plants grow on a shrub that enjoys the shade and dampness of the jungleâs understory. At first glance, it is almost indistinguishable from most other plants growing beneath the large trees, but closer inspection would reveal the Lababerries themselves growing in clusters directly along the shrubâs stems. But closer inspection would get your hand and/or face possibly bitten off by the leaves also growing on the stems. They appear to be completely unsuspecting until someone gets too close, at which point the leaves split and reveal toothy openings much like a venus flytrapâs that can elongate and extend from the stem almost like a vine, and snapping at its prey much like a snapping turtle. So, good luck fighting off the plants while making sure the berries stay in tact (which probably means less fire and explosions, more hacking and slashing). The goal, for now, would merely be to observe the plantsâ behavior and come up with a good strategy for harvesting later.
Oh, and making sure the party doesnât get attacked by any of the other monsters dwelling in the jungle. ]
HARVEST
[ After a day of surveying and clearing the area of any outside threads, itâs time to harvest! If the team has prepared sufficiently the previous day, this should be the easiest part of the mission! Hopefully. Barring, again, any angry monsters coming through.
Using the information they gathered on the plants and coming up with a good way to extract the fruits, the team will have to fight the plants without completely destroying them to leave enough crops for the next harvest season and collect them in the containers provided by the Guard before making their journey back toward the inhabited area of the city. ]

[ Shigeru really isn't the biggest fan of camping. He's done it on missions in the past, true, but they were always hard on him regardless of the preparations he made. The lack of sanitary conditions and the lack of privacy always made it more difficult when you had mysophobia. To say he isn't stressed out would be an understatement. So he's taking his mind off of it by cooking. There's a big ol pot just sitting on a separate fire that smells delicious. It's a hearty stew recipe that he's learned and made from a cookbook he bought back in the city. There's carrots, peas, celery, potatoes and chunks of meat simmering in the pot while Shigeru cuts up some bread to go alongside it. Feel free to ask for a taste test. ]
Camping II - grass is not always greener
[ So around the three day mark Shigeru will be missing for awhile from the campsite. Finally being out here has taken his toll on him and he can found by the riverside meticulously, and vigorously washing his hands. He really can't stand being unclean and this is just one way he copes with it. But he didn't want to turn back, not when there were people that could use his help for such a dangerous mission. And especially not while Genji was here either. His hands might be raw by the time anyone comes along, but he doesn't seem to notice as he scrubs at them still. ]
surveying
[ For the most part the only problem he can tell is the leaves themselves. Since they're so close to the berry clusters it's hard to really remove them without damaging the berries as well. He'll take out his pad to write on. It's bigger and easier to show people without having others touch it, he can't distracted right now with that sort of thing anyway, so he keeps from having his personal belongings touched as much as possible. ]
I can try to disintegrate the leaves connecting point to the stem so we can gather the berries easily. Using a sword to hack away the leaves is probably our best and quickest bet though. How many people here actually have close range weapons?
[ Shigeru knows he's the healer of the group but that doesn't mean he isn't going to fight as well. But just to assuage anyone's fears he'll write something a few moments late. ]
And if anyone gets injured just leave it to me, okay? I can heal you if need be!
harvesting
[ So here comes the fun part. These plants are not the easiest foes he's ever dealt with. They are like the creatures back home, but they're still hardy enough to take caution against. Shigeru is weaving in and out of plants snapping jaws with his gate imposing and silently floating behind him. His appearance is different as well now. His eyes are black with purple irises and along the right side of his face are markings of an ancient sort. His glowing purple sword, Valent, and his purple shield, Xevrant, leave glowing light trails as he moves and attacks with ease and a strangely marked precision. Each vine he cuts with his sword will disintegrate at least two feet from the section that he cut from; while his shield will also disintegrate anything that touches it as well. ]

[ ooc; insert other cute/horrible camping things here, maybe?! ]

So when there's a lull after they set up camp, Genji realizes his friend isn't around. He frowns a little and excuses himself to try to find him. After a moment, he hears the sound of splashing water by the river and heads to the source.
Ah. ] Shigeru? [ He approaches him but stays behind him. ] Is everything okay?
no subject
His hands are bleeding from how hard he'd been scrubbing them, but his powers are quick to fix the wounds, though there's still some minor cuts regardless when Genji approaches. He doesn't turn around because he can't bring himself to do so just yet, but he will shake his head in a 'yes' fashion at Genji's question. Ugh, please Genji, just leave him be for a little awhile?! ]

Hana has been occupied with acting as a distraction for the plants; she has no idea whether these plants can see or anything but she figures she's large, loud, and everything a distraction needs to be in her mech. It's only in her periphery that she manages to see Shigeru transform almost into a different person (not that she really knows him that well, but she's pretty sure he didn't have black eyes before) but she's half-impressed, half-bewildered, especially at the way things disintegrate around him.
A particularly nasty branch with some nice, dense foliage sees fit to attack the big pink mech, then, releasing themselves from the branches and into their whiplike, vine form and they spring out, wrap around the arms of Hana's mech and bind them together. ]
Hey! What the hell!?
[ She tries to move her arms, to break her mech's arms free of the vines, but they're surprisingly strong. ]
no subject
Those vines start to disintegrate pretty rapidly from around Hana's mech. She'll be able to break away quite easily as the plants screeching and undulate in terror and pain from the act. ]

DAT MONSTER!!
... she was starting to get bored. Adventuring is fun and all, but after they left the outer perimeter to venture into the jungle, it's just been green. So much green. Which is pretty and amazing and Hana has never seen anything like it in her life, except for photographs in Mei-Ling Zhou's journal, but after a while the scenery starts to look the same.
Until it doesn't.
Reflexes quick as they are, Hana (and her mech) turn in the direction of that slimy, unflattering sound just in time to see the huge... whatever the hell it is. And while it's gross as heck, Hana grips her controls in excitement.
Finally, some action.
She's halfway into charging at the thing when she hears X'rhun's warning just in time. ]
What? This thing came from your dimension?!
[ Surely enough, her HUD is telling her it has no damn clue what that target is. But she's sure as hell recording so that there is data for the future.
Man, she needs to talk to Cisco or someone about a breather mask or helmet or something. ]
I can flank it, no problem!
no subject
[ Morbols are the worst things to walk (vaguely slither?) across the face of the earth, if you ask him.
X'rhun is the smaller target of the two, the more agile, and unfortunately, the more morbol-familiar, so he takes it upon himself to run interference while Hana moves into flanking position.
Of course the creature is more attracted by the brightly-painted mech, so he has to move fast. The crystal that usually hangs from his belt lifts up, following the motion of X'rhun's hand, and attaches to the hilt of his blade with an audible snap. Now wielding rapier and crystal like a mage's staff, he focuses on his spell- it's not a long incantation, a few seconds at most, the crystal glowing a red-violet as he casts- and a bolt of red light lances from his weapon, striking the morbol in the side of the head.
The creature turns its sights from Hana to focus on the new threat, lashing at the mage with one of its vines. In answer, X'rhun issues a bolt of lightning from the crystal instantly, ducking under the attack and skirting away as he does. ]

Thankfully, it all pans out, though it's something of a close shave (ha ha). X'rhun casts a grateful glance Keith's way. The plant still latches onto his arm in its death throes, but once the life goes out of it, it's easy enough to pry it from his arm.
It hurts like hells, and already his sleeve is a darker shade of crimson than before. ]

I... ah, I have some healing abilities of my own, so I think I can manage. I'm more interested in what you just did.

At the question though he looked over at X'rhun]
Stories about the stars? Yeah. There are a lot of them where we are from. Depends on countries, regions, but there are stories. What about you? Are there stories of the stars where you are from?

[ Xârhun may be a creature of the daytime, but thereâs just something about the stars that he finds captivating. ]
I spent some time among some people on my home world who have an entire school of healing arts based around the stars. Itâs quite fascinating.

[Shiro was certainly not unprepared for this, having been trained well by the Garrison and having been on a mission previously. He even had his paladin armor on even if he didn't immediately have his helmet on.
There was something different about this time though. He had a large robot lion tagging along this time. Not that he had a lot of supplies, but the team as a whole did and having his hands free was helpful so anyone paying attention when they were getting ready to leave would see him talking to Black and saying "I know its not what you were meant for... Please, buddy?" It was after this that he smiled, thanked the lion, and put some of the larger supplies on its back.
As they finally find a place to stop for the night, Shiro unloads the packs that he had put on Black's back, the lion walking away once the last one was gone, sitting down at the edge of their camp, looking out into the woods around them. Shiro on the other hand started setting up some of their shelters]
Survey
[Upon arriving at the area where the plants were located, Shiro again helped Black unpack and went to take a closer look at the bushes to get some more information about them. The closer he got though, the stranger the feeling he got was. It was not normal. Even Black was weary about it and the nagging feeling in the back of his mind said don't get too close to it.
After a moment, he picked up a nearby rock and throw it towards one of the plants. Surprisingly enough, the movement and sound attracted the leaves' attention and several tried to grab the rock that he had thrown]
Okay... We need to be careful of those things.
Harvest
[Now that they were prepared and knew what they were dealing with, Shiro donned his full armor, going after the plants himself. His hand glowed a brilliant purple color as he slashed down the leave. Should one of the leaves attempt to grab his hand, it didn't last much longer.
Even Black could get into the swing of things, firing its tail laser at leaves that seemed to be getting too close to anyone not as capable or not as observant]

Got it!
[With a quick swing of his arm, Keith sent his bayard flying, cutting the lowest branches. And, with the baskets removed for loading while harvesting, Red had been put on protection duty, so having a flying robot lion helped reach those higher interlopers, too. She streaked across above them, the jaw blade sticking out of the right side of her mouth, slashing through carnivorous vines.]
