If Jay hadn't suggested it, Ed probably would not be planning a party for Al. They were generally pretty low-key and after so many years in Purg birthdays were hardly a thing, nevermind the sort of life they had back home. Still, Ed had found a way to keep Al out of the communal building to provide enough time to prepare for the floor for what should be a relatively small gathering of friends.

Similar to the party thrown in July when his brother had first arrived, Ed had gone through the trouble of making sure plenty of snacks and food were in stock for anyone interested. Once again, anything your character could find within the Quarantine may very well be available, soft drinks, juice, some forms of alcohol, chips, cookies, pretzels - the usual assortments of party food. Requests and special diets had been taken into consideration as well as organization that allowed for food that may not be edible to the majority being set aside and labeled as such. The kitchen island was covered in bowls of treats and the buckets that had been used to carry the water guns were on the floor, filled with ice and holding additional drinks as well. There will also be pastries baked by Lola, food prepared by Jacob Kane, Otabek Altin and Shigeru, an apple pie for dessert made by Jason and an assortment of other possibilities - anyone is welcome to bring or make their own dish to share.

Games were laid out in the entertainment area, for anyone to help themselves to. Cards, board games, video games etc. Ed figured that some people might show up before Al arrived and others may not get there until he had returned, better to have things for everyone to enjoy themselves with either way. Although Ed only had a small list of people to invite - half their friends lived on the floor, and they hadn't made too many lasting friendships yet with how many people had gone home - he tried to invite anyone he could think of that might be interested and did encourage others to bring someone along, should they so choose.

After the party everything needs to be cleaned up again, so anyone willing to help is welcome to put away scattered games or throw out whatever they trash they see. Pack up some leftovers and take them home, there's plenty of food to share.

Jay had been there at the start of the party but had vanished somewhere in the start of things. He just couldn't handle being around that much happiness even if he enjoyed being around the boys he had just slipped out when no one was paying attention. It was much later when he returned, shrugging his jacket off and hanging it in his normal spot before he pushed his sleeves up and got to work on cleaning things up. He would forever deny it but he was a bit ocd when it came to levels of cleanness, sure he had let it slip while he had stayed with Bizzaro and Ma Gunn, but here he just felt the need to straighten up.

And the birthday boy and his brother didn't need to clean up the mess in his opinion.

Ed noticed Jay's disappearance, mostly because there was no way he'd miss it. Jason had been the one to come up with this idea and insist they bake something - which meant learning how to make an apple pie specifically for this occasion. So for him to be missing from the actual event, that was something Edward was fully aware of.

He is, of course, cleaning up. He threw the party it was his responsibility to get everything back to normal and although he'd appreciate any help that was offered he wasn't going to just let Jay do all the work alone. When Jason returns and starts his own clean up, Edward doesn't waste time dodging around the subject. "You know, if you had something to do today we could have planned this for a better time."

Sorry Jay, he is forever unimpressed that you contributed as much as you did and then vanished for the actual fun.

Jason looked up from where he was straightening up, looking right at Ed, there was a bruise forming under his left eye. Bruises never seemed to last long on him thanks to the lingering effects of the Pit but some nights he looked like hell, usually he'd just take a shower and go to bed if he showed up like that. This wasn't bad in his book.

"I didn't have anything to do. I went out, that's all." He spoke with a shrug. "I just don't do these kinds of parties well." It was the best way he could think to say it. Even in Bruce's care when he was shoved into fancy suits and paraded around he had hated it. The truth of it these days was it reminded him of how much he missed. "Did he have fun at least?" That's was his concern as he picked up more trash.

Ed noted the bruise, but he knew Jay was pretty hushed up about his life outside of the floor and he was sure he’d get told it was none of his business even if he asked. Still, he does quirk a brow in indication that he saw it and was well aware that Jason didn’t exactly have a good time, whatever he was doing. Or maybe he was into that sort of thing, and had. He wasn’t a stranger to the idea that some people liked getting into fights, the timing just seemed odd.

“Over the top dance in a suit you can handle, a floor full of people you probably know most of, not so much. Got it.” It wasn’t said with judgment, mostly he just sounded confused. The intent was to be clear that he wasn’t going to pry though, Jay said he didn’t do parties like this and Ed was willing to leave it at that, because he figured it was something to do with some past memory that made him uncomfortable. Part of him might have actually been jealous that Jason slipped out, he wasn’t exactly big on hosting parties like this but it was for Al so he’d ignored his own discomfort.

“Yeah, he said it was perfect.” It felt a lot less than perfect to Ed, but they were vastly different people and he knew that. He smirked some before shrugging, “The pie was probably his favorite part, I’m sure he’ll thank you personally for it later.”

Maybe one day, Jason would admit what he goes out every night to do. Though he figures with time he wont have to. Jay caught that quirk of the brow, to that he gave a slight shrug. Yeah, he's bruised but that's nothing new to him. He was one of those types that liked to fight, lived for the rush of knowing he was alive.

"Over the top I don't have to be myself. It's a trick I picked up living with B, I pretend to be someone else. It's hard to explain Ed, it's nothing personal." He explained with a bit of a shrug while he worked on the cleaning. Maybe it steamed from his childhood, maybe it came from never being invited to family functions unless it was of the work kind. Maybe it was also still, the fear of letting people in. He was the Robin no one trusted, the son excluded from the portrait sitting. He hated how jealous he felt seeing the Elric's at times, but the were the closest he had to real friends here. At least ones he wasn't actively sleeping with, or working his way to it.

"I'm glad to hear it, hes a good kid. He deserves a childhood, at least what's left of it. Its to late for guys like us. Better to let Al have it while he still has that sunny disposition." hearing Ed say Al liked the pie got a smile out of Jason. "I'm glad to hear it, it was a good excuse to contact someone I'm trying to measure up." He wanted to see if Wanda would be good with Dick. Granted he'd never admit that to Wanda or Dick.

With time someone was bound to move out and the little group that Floor Six had become would dissipate, mingling in strangers every month as it had been doing up until this point. It was already starting to head that way, and Ed knew it would continue that way and the floor wouldn't be what it used to. As much as they kept their secrets, there was a mutual understanding between the people that had lived there up until recently, and Jason was one of those people which is why Ed would never pry.

"That makes sense," He'd had his own experience with pretending to be somebody else, but not quite to the same extent. Either way he wasn't going to push it, Jay was focused on cleaning so he went back to the task at hand, himself. "Careful he doesn't overhear you." Ed laughed at that, Al had always been quick to appreciate being considered a kid when they were kids, but getting confused for a pre-teen when he was practically an adult wore on even the more patient Elric's nerves. "Although, I don't think he'll be changing much at all, no matter how old he gets." No, Al was their mother and she'd had that disposition until she died, if Al could keep it through everything else they'd been through adulthood certainly wasn't going to take it away now.

"Measure up?" He quirked a brow at that, because he wasn't sure how it equated to making pie unless he meant that he wanted to test their baking skills. "Glad it helped, I guess." With whatever all of that was about.

Jason already planning to try and pack up and leave sooner or later, the shared rooms was really killing his sex life. Not that it was grand before, but at least he had the choice before, last thing he wanted was for one of his younger roommates catching him with someone in his bed. It was the only reason he hadn't taken Drew up on his offer yet. That and a little worry of going that far with another dude. Jason appreciated that Ed didn't pry.

"The kid thing? I call everyone younger than me kid... even a few people older than me." He got an idea and offered Ed a grin, which... reopened his split lip, opps. "or Allie-Cat." Yes, that seemed good. He did so love his nicknames. "Life changes people. You cant be sure." He spoke as he picked up a napkin from the table pressing it to his lip as he stood up straight for a moment.

"As a responsible adult, I guess. I'm not, but I try."

[Well, he hadn't been there for set up, and wasn't all that great at cooking for parties, so Keith forced himself to stick everything out to the end so he could help clean up, at least. He wasn't much of a party person, so hanging around that long wasn't exactly easy, but it had been a smaller party, so he stuck it out as best he could, and was putting things away now.]
