music and mayhem
who: Bucky and OPEN
what: A variety of prompts, serious and more light-hearted, for existing and new CR
when: The month of September
where: Quarantine and the ruins
warnings: Minor injury/blood discussion
[i: thief at the hospital]
[Bucky has used the last of what Steve brought him on the night he was pulled from underneath the girder and patched up, but the wound still isn't completely healed and he doesn't want to risk it getting infected from substandard care. The bastardised serum he has might help keep infection at bay, but he's still human and he knows better than to risk it.
So clearly the best thing to do is head on over to the hospital, right?
Anyone passing by the hospital on a few days throughout the month might catch sight of a man subtly climbing in through one of the upper windows, and then climbing out again a few minutes later with his hoodie noticeably more full as if he's been pilfering supplies... mostly because that's exactly what he's doing.]
[ii: a stitch in time]
[Following the hospital raids, Bucky can be found out in the ruins tending to himself.
He has his shirt off, meaning that his metal arm is exposed to view for once, and is dealing with a nasty looking gut wound. It's already been stitched up, he's not in danger of keeling over any more, but he's cleaning out the dried blood and wrapping with fresh bandages.]
[iii: kiss and tell]
[After the disaster with Obi-Wan, Bucky has been keeping a very close watch out for those stupid little lights, determined not to get himself trapped under someone else's influence again. But they're more numerous than he'd like and sometimes one doesn't get seen until it's just a bit too late...
A warning to anyone getting themselves caught with Bucky in the kiss and tell, he may not react well and it could lead to fighting rather than kissing.]
[iv: songs from the old days]
[Bucky doesn't have much of a solid base, more a few bolt holes that he uses in a random pattern to keep him from being easy to track down, and that means that he doesn't have much in the way of possessions. It has to be easy to carry and flee with at a moment's notice, after all. But he has one or two indulgences that he's picked up on a whim, driven by half remembered days from before the Soldier.
He has a kite that he can sometimes be seen perched on a rooftop flying in the breeze, looking unaccountably peaceful. He also now has a record player. He found it in a little curiosity shop, a proper old one with some vinyls to go with it. He doesn't play the music too loudly, but anyone passing by some of the abandoned buildings or ruins might hear the quiet strains of the Andrews Sisters.]
[v: wildcard]
[Bucky can also be found at nights having nightmares, skulking around at the gun range watching others play, or generally observing the world around him. If you would like to play any of these, or have a completely different idea for a prompt, just go for it and I'll follow your lead! You can also hit me up on
bibbety for plotting.]

[He doesn't mean himself, obviously, but Ivar will find some people who stick with him for the duration.]
The pain is worth it for the ones that stick around, trust me.
no subject
I hope you're right. It feels like the pain is never going to stop right now.
[A curious notion enters his head and he looks over at Bucky.]
Do you ever plan to go back through the portal?
no subject
I can't see the future, it depends on what happens. Maybe, maybe not. There's not a lot for me back where I'm from.
no subject
[He sighs, a heavy sound for someone so young. Ivar's had a lot put on him for a sixteen year old.]
But now I've got responsibilities here. I couldn't leave Winter just to go back and finish a war, no matter how much I want to.
no subject
[That's definitely a lesson that's been hard learned over the last seventy years.]
Sure, individual ones might start and end, but there'll always be another one. Don't base your decisions on war.
no subject
[They were never more at home then when they were on the battlefield, Ivar more so than most. All he had wanted his entire life was being equal to the others, being able to attain glory and honor by killing his enemies.]
But it's not about just the war. It's about revenge.
no subject
[Maybe it's not sensible to insult someone's culture that way, but it's true all the same.]
You live for war or revenge, and you live for suffering. Find something else to live for, something real. Live for your daughter.
no subject
What would you know about it? I don't care if I'm living for suffering. I suffered enough losing my parents to someone else's petty spiteful schemes. If that means that I need to kill my way to get back at them, so be it.
[Not even the love for his daughter was enough to take him off the path he'd set out on. He hadn't made it into the history books for being kind. Ivar The Boneless was known as a very cruel Viking.]
no subject
[He doesn't back down for once, even though Ivar is getting confrontational.]
Trust me, I know a lot about it, I've been living for suffering and war for more years than you've been alive.
no subject
You don't get it. Fighting isn't pointless, not for Vikings. It's the only thing we have that provides worth in our lives.
[Unlike other cultures, Vikings didn't yearn for peace. When they went too long without fighting others, they tended to turn inwards, and start fighting each other, like a snake eating its own tail.]
no subject
Next time you look down at your daughter, remember how angry you were that her Ma thought she was a danger. Ask yourself if you want to see her grow up and hate and fight, and think that's the only worth her life has.
[Because he's willing to bet that Ivar finds he wants more for Winter, and that will mean admitting fighting isn't the best bedrock for a life.]
no subject
I'll raise her the way I see fit.
[He'll protect Winter from the cruelties of the world as much as he can, but he also knows he can't protect her from everything. She's different and people will treat her as such. Is becoming hard in a world like that such a bad thing?]
no subject
He knows Ivar isn't a dumb kid, he's come to realisations on his own before if left to think about it, so that's what Bucky will rely on this time. Maybe it will take a while, but he thinks that being a father will help him see the other point of view.
Until next time, Viking-son.]
