[i: thief at the hospital]

[Bucky has used the last of what Steve brought him on the night he was pulled from underneath the girder and patched up, but the wound still isn't completely healed and he doesn't want to risk it getting infected from substandard care. The bastardised serum he has might help keep infection at bay, but he's still human and he knows better than to risk it.

So clearly the best thing to do is head on over to the hospital, right?

Anyone passing by the hospital on a few days throughout the month might catch sight of a man subtly climbing in through one of the upper windows, and then climbing out again a few minutes later with his hoodie noticeably more full as if he's been pilfering supplies... mostly because that's exactly what he's doing.]

[ii: a stitch in time]

[Following the hospital raids, Bucky can be found out in the ruins tending to himself.

He has his shirt off, meaning that his metal arm is exposed to view for once, and is dealing with a nasty looking gut wound. It's already been stitched up, he's not in danger of keeling over any more, but he's cleaning out the dried blood and wrapping with fresh bandages.]

[iii: kiss and tell]

[After the disaster with Obi-Wan, Bucky has been keeping a very close watch out for those stupid little lights, determined not to get himself trapped under someone else's influence again. But they're more numerous than he'd like and sometimes one doesn't get seen until it's just a bit too late...

A warning to anyone getting themselves caught with Bucky in the kiss and tell, he may not react well and it could lead to fighting rather than kissing.]

[iv: songs from the old days]

[Bucky doesn't have much of a solid base, more a few bolt holes that he uses in a random pattern to keep him from being easy to track down, and that means that he doesn't have much in the way of possessions. It has to be easy to carry and flee with at a moment's notice, after all. But he has one or two indulgences that he's picked up on a whim, driven by half remembered days from before the Soldier.

He has a kite that he can sometimes be seen perched on a rooftop flying in the breeze, looking unaccountably peaceful. He also now has a record player. He found it in a little curiosity shop, a proper old one with some vinyls to go with it. He doesn't play the music too loudly, but anyone passing by some of the abandoned buildings or ruins might hear the quiet strains of the Andrews Sisters.]

[Bucky can also be found at nights having nightmares, skulking around at the gun range watching others play, or generally observing the world around him. [He stops at the corner of the street to turn and look at her, his expression a mix of wariness and annoyance.]

Don't you have better things to do than follow strangers around?

Not really.

[She admits with a roll of her shoulders.]

I don't work today and while I sometimes hang out outside the perimeter it's more fun with other people. [Yuffie flashes him a momentary grin. She's used to grumps and his sour attitude is hardly divisive.]

What about you?

If I had anything to do, it wouldn't be with an annoying woman following me around.

[The longer she's there, not leaving when he asks her to, the more it itches at the back of his head. Like she's a potential threat, even if only for distracting him from where other threats might be coming from.]

[Yuffie rolls her eyes at him.]

Yeah, whatever. I was just trying to help.

[Sort of. She is also bored but this grumpy medical stealing guy is doing nothing to fight her boredom.]

Anyway, if you need medical stuff you should look into using magic too. [He can listen to her or not. Yuffie is past the point of caring.]

I don't know any magic.

[Nor does he know much about it. He's seen it used by now, even used on him once, but it's still pretty much a mystery.]

So it's not really an option.

[Yuffie is about to turn and leave when he mentions magic. She pauses and decides that she might as well tell him.]

You just need Materia. Anyone can use it.

[She flicks her wrist and between her fingers appears a green glowing sphere.]

[His eyes narrow cautiously, but he doesn't flinch away when he sees it.]

It's not an ability, it's an item?

[At least he assumes that's what Materia is, it sounds like something physical.]

Yup!

[It's a cool nifty little thing.]

I don't know if you'll have trouble using it but there is no harm in trying. I found some Materia in the forest a few days ago. Probably looted from my world. It isn't a particularly useful one though.

[He's cautious of it, but not exactly refusing yet either.]

What does it do? How do you use it?

This one is called Sense and it does exactly what the name implies.

Think of Materia like ice cream. They come in all sorts of delicious flavors.

[It's obvious that Yuffie is enamored with materia though she got her white materia from Cloud so she isn't particularly keen to tell him about the keepsake.]

[That still doesn't tell him exactly what he wants to know, but he'll be on the lookout for suspicious looking rocks from now on.]

Sense what?

[Danger? Increased hearing and sight? What are the limits?]

You know. It tells you about an enemy's strengths and weaknesses.

[People not knowing what Materia is continues to strike Yuffie as weird. Even after the month or so she's been in Quarantine.]

There is what magic too and ones that cure poison. So I don't know what you're stealing for but it might be better if you use Materia instead.

[See... now that he doesn't like, it seems far too intrusive for him and it bothers him that there are all of these people here who might be able to read what he's capable of with him having no way to stop them.]

You just need to practice. I figured it out when I was thirteen. You're what... thirty... forty? I'm sure you can do it.

[She actually has no idea how to tell someone's age. To date she has no idea how old Vincent is.]

[Yuffie also actually likes helping people. In her own weird, usually annoying, way.]

[He's definitely going to look into it more now that he knows it exists, but more as a research aid against a possible threat than as something to use himself.]

[He doesn't want magic lessons from a stranger.]

I can get along without it fine.

[Yuffie clicks her tongue against the roof of her mouth.]
