[ Cain looks up from where he's got a finger in his mouth for tasting part of his concoction before he wipes it off and goes back to using the utensils as civilized people do. He raises a brow at the greeting, but goes with it for sure. Usually he's the one on the opposite end of bugging people like this. ]

Hey, Magnus. It's going pretty well for me. Am in the way of anything?

Naaaw, man, you're good. I'm just here to hang out.

[He hopes he's not coming off too strong here. Making friends isn't usually difficult for Magnus, but he feels like he kinda walked into this encounter the wrong way.]

What's cookin'?

[Smooth move, Magnus.]

That's totally allowed. It's a free common room.

[ Cain turns his attention back to the food briefly while he answers. ]

Nothing too fancy, just something from home. Arancini. You could try one when it's done if you want.

Hell yeah! I could go for one of those. Whatever they are.

[Secretly, Magnus hopes he's about to make a new Finely-cooked Food Friend to fill the void. The arancini does smell good.]

So I realized... [The words come out of his mouth like he's trying to sell a house.] I see you around here every other day, but we don't talk much. And you seem like a cool guy. So I figured I should try to change that.

... By, uh, talking. To you.

Better than the option of just stalking me down until you've nailed just the right approach. Then I might have been suspicious.

[ He just grins and keeps his attention on the food. Yes, Magnus, you're about to make another Food Friend. This one's been cooking for about twenty-eight hundred years sooo have fun with that. ]

So, what do you do with yourself here?

[So far, so good! It feels like he's hitting it off well.]

Mostly I just go on adventures. And to my job. I build buildings. What about you?

[ Hey, Cain loves conversation while he cooks. It helps keep his actions focused. ]

Oh, a construction worker? Nice. I write phone apps. Not nearly as impressive to show off.

Oh, apps! Totally! I have some of those.

[He's proud enough that he understands what a phone app is. Electronics are still so new to him.]

Which ones did you make? I'm fond of the ones that play the dog videos.

Mostly just rating apps. Ones that focus on public opinion of places to dine if we're being specific.

[ He grins, somewhat wan, at the mention of dog videos. ]

Video apps are not outside my range of doing but they're more complicated for sure.

Hey, it's more than I could ever do.

[He turns a chair from the kitchen table to face the cooking area and takes a seat.]

You seem like you've got it all put together. What would you do if you thought your friends tried to poison you?

[...It seemed like a good idea to ask until he asked it.]

[ Well, that's... a topic. Cain looks at Magnus, then kind of laughs because yeah okay. Sure. Ice breaker, right? Hopefully not literal but he can deal with that too. ]

Probably just take it anyway. Call them out afterward.

[Magnus lets out a genuine laugh.] For real? But what if it is poison? How are you gonna call them out if you're dead?

[aeturnus]

I'll haunt them. Or if it's slow-acting, I'll just call them out 'til it's done.

[ Cain, you are immortal, this is not a life strategy many others can employ. ]

[He shrugs his shoulders, weighing the pros and cons of ghostly haunting.]

Yeah, I think I made the right choice in not drinking it. I don't think I'd be very good at haunting someone.

Wait, hold on. Friends of yours tried to poison you?

[ So. Not a hypothetical question so much. Great. ]

[A noncommittal shrug.]

I think so? Now I think I may have jumped the gun, but at the time, the whole situation seemed pretty sketch. So I ditched them.
