It's a reasonably quiet night, pleasantly dry with a slight breeze. Almost nice, for those that enjoy the hours after midnight long before dawn starts to creep on the horizon. Right until it isn't, when the air changes, and there's the scent of heat that promises smoke. In most places it starts with a flash of blue light that arcs from floor to floor as energy pulses through the building, and there's a crack of sound that follows. The power dies for a moment, and if you're one of the unlucky ones, the light that follows is a literal spark in the dark, burning to life in bright orange-red, yielding heat and smoke and trouble. The energy surge doesn't just hit the lights, but sparked flames that burst to life, and they catch quickly, spreading.

The worst of it starts on the ninth floor, where the smoke and the beginning of heat starts moments before the surge. The fire spreads faster there, people starting to startle awake and realize what's happening as the flames crackle. Eventually there's an announcement on the Network, both alerting people to what's happening and trying to organize both those that are willing to help and those that need it.

Some areas are untouched, while others are ravaged badly, reduced to ashes and crumbling ceilings, so watch your step. There's chaos, but through it there's people doing what they can to help each other, and the official fire services show up to help control the blaze. After that, it's just a matter of repairing the damage that's been done, rebuilding and putting things back together, seeing what's been lost and what was saved.

Even later, people start putting the pieces together, and there's the official investigation into what might have caused a fire like that in the first place.

[ After all is said and done, there's one last matter Hana has to tend to before she assesses how much of the belongings she's started to amass here she might have just lost in that fire – and that's figuring out where Genji is. He's her closest confidant in this place by now, and already she's kicking herself for not checking in with him first before everything else. She should've made sure he was alright from the get-go.

Though... Genji is much tougher than his now-tranquil personality suggests. In the back of her mind she'd known he would be just fine.

Once the rescuing has finished and the extinguishing of the fire is in full force, Hana takes her mech away from the bustle of all the action and parks it on the sidewalk across the street from the housing building, right outside where the medic tents are set up. She powers it down and slips out of the cockpit and tries to land as carefully as possible onto her feet because—

she may have accidentally cut her leg open on a stray piece of reinforcing metal while she was trying to get to her mech; and so it's with a bit of a limp that she enters the tent and her eyes immediately find that familiar green glow of Genji's. And just as immediately, she feels relief flood through her. ]

Genji, you're here!

[ After getting healed by Shigeru, he figured he would be more help in the medic tents while his body recovered energy. He's alone in a tent as he picks up the various medical supplies strewn about when someone enters—

He turns and his eyes brighten, a smile pulling at his face. ] Hana! [ In any instant he's at her side. He'd been concerned about her but knew she could handle her own; he figured it was a good thing he hadn't seen her in any of the tents yet.

He puts his hands on her shoulders. ] Are you hurt? [ He looks her over before getting to her feet, noticing the red covering her suit. ] Wait, let me get something to—

[bunnyhopped]

[ She's smiling until he asks her if she's hurt becuase well yes, she is, but it's not... a big deal... The more important thing is that they're both okay, so she steps forward and just gives him a big hug. ]

Genji, it's okay— I'm okay.

[flowlikewater]

I— [ And... oh. That's a hug.

Genji realizes he hasn't been hugged that much in a long time. He smiles, eyes crinkling as his expression softens and he hugs her back tightly. He hopes his ports have cooled down enough that isn't scalding to the touch. ] I am glad you're okay. I'm okay too.

[ Have a soft little squeeze. Hana's become a very important person to him here, he realizes. ]

[ Hana is a very friendly person and she tends to be quite liberal when it comes to showing affection. And she's just spent a good amount of time in the middle of flames; a little heat won't bother her. It would be stranger to her that she's gotten so attached to this cyborg ninja dude, if not for the fact that he's also one of the only people here who kind of knows her from home that she would trust. And it odder still that they only ever knew of each other until they were both sent into this reality. Would they ever have met at home?

It doesn't matter. At this point, she doesn't know what she'd do if Genji ever vanished like he said his brother had.

She sighs into the hug a little bit, expelling her worry along with it and then she pulls away. ]

I should have contacted you as soon as this whole thing started. But I needed to get to my mech right away... good to know you're fireproof, though!

[flowlikewater]

[ She was a brightness and cheer that he had no idea he was missing from his life, and he doesn't regret making such a fool of himself the first time they met. Hana is a cherished friend now, finding himself so relieved that she's safe only cements that fact.

Genji smiles as they pull away and reaches up to brush some soot out of her hair without realizing it. ] It seems we both went into action without thinking of much else. [ He chuckles a little. ] For the most part, yes. I did get a little reckless. [ He points to the bandage on the side of his face.

Speaking of which, he looks back down at her leg. ] I know you're fine, but let's take a look at that. There are some bandages and antiseptic on the table.

[bunnyhopped]

[ She huffs a little laugh at that, even at that bandage on his face, because she's not surprised at all to learn that even for his super zen demeanor that he could get reckless. ]

Well, just another one to add to your collection, right?

[ of scars, she means, in the friendliest way possible. When he draws attention back her leg, though, she can't help but notice that, yep, it's still bleeding and she's going to have to find a way to repair her plug suit after this. Ugh. ]

Fine... I mean, it doesn't really hurt [ there's no need for a tough gal act, Hana, it's okay ] but I guess we should get it bandaged up.

[ She tries to take a step forward with her uninjured leg, which goes just fine, but as soon as she tries to move the injured leg the pain flashes across her face. The adrenaline has been wearing off and with it, the ability to completely ignore the injury. ]

[ He can't help a little grin at that. ] Exactly. It should match very nicely with the ones I already had.

[ When she tries to take a step and that look of pain flashes across her face he frowns. ] Doesn't hurt, hm? Here— [ With that, like she weighs next to nothing, Genji scoops her up easily. ] —so you don't have to walk on it.

[ He takes her over to the nearby cot and puts her down gingerly. ] Keep it elevated while I get the supplies?

[bunnyhopped]

[ There are no objections from her when he picks her up easily, still smarting from her injury and there are no objections once she's on the cot, either. The only real response comes from his request, to which she nods before she shifts the pillow on the cot so that she can keep her injured leg on it.

Aw, damn it. How could she mess up and get injured like this? Sure, it had been a fire and all, but it wasn't... a battle. She shouldn't have been so careless and gotten injured, and now she's causing trouble for Genji. Damn it. ]

[ It isn't any trouble to Genji though, and he quickly grabs what he needs and goes and kneels down next to the cot. He gingerly peels back the parts of her suit stuck to her skin with the blood to check the wound. ] Hmm, it doesn't look like it needs stitches. That's good.

[ With that he pours a disinfectant on a gauze and goes to start cleaning the wound. ] This may sting. [ There's a pause and he chuckles a little hoarsely, from all the smoke no doubt. ] I should probably disclose that I'm not exactly medically trained, but I've been on the other end enough to learn a few things.

[bunnyhopped]

[ That she won't need stitches is actually a relief to hear, mostly because she doesn't want to have to deal with any. And valiantly, she only winces a little bit when he starts cleaning the wound. The disinfectant does sting a little, but Hana isn't a stranger to injury and she's had to see the medics back home at least a few times. Genji's banter, at least, manages to pull a little chuckle out of her. ]

What? I didn't know. I demand to see a real doctor, not a phony ninja doctor.

... Thank you, Genji.

[ It's okay to not be okay sometimes, and Genji's learned that the hard way. There's something to be said for finding people you feel like you can be weak around.

He can't help a little grin. ] I'll go find a white lab coat to make it more professional. [ That would surely be a sight.

His smile gets softer, a little tender. Genji gives her a pat on the knee before going to place the bandage on her wound. ] You're very welcome.

[bunnyhopped]

[ Hana pouts a little bit. She's always been so fiercely independent throughout her life that accepting help from others (with the exception of her parents) is still relatively difficult for her. But she's genuine with her appreciation even as begrudgingly as she's now being about it.

So— time to change the subject. ]
