It's a reasonably quiet night, pleasantly dry with a slight breeze. Almost nice, for those that enjoy the hours after midnight long before dawn starts to creep on the horizon. Right until it isn't, when the air changes, and there's the scent of heat that promises smoke. In most places it starts with a flash of blue light that arcs from floor to floor as energy pulses through the building, and there's a crack of sound that follows. The power dies for a moment, and if you're one of the unlucky ones, the light that follows is a literal spark in the dark, burning to life in bright orange-red, yielding heat and smoke and trouble. The energy surge doesn't just hit the lights, but sparked flames that burst to life, and they catch quickly, spreading.

The worst of it starts on the ninth floor, where the smoke and the beginning of heat starts moments before the surge. The fire spreads faster there, people starting to startle awake and realize what's happening as the flames crackle. Eventually there's an announcement on the Network, both alerting people to what's happening and trying to organize both those that are willing to help and those that need it.

Some areas are untouched, while others are ravaged badly, reduced to ashes and crumbling ceilings, so watch your step. There's chaos, but through it there's people doing what they can to help each other, and the official fire services show up to help control the blaze. After that, it's just a matter of repairing the damage that's been done, rebuilding and putting things back together, seeing what's been lost and what was saved.

Even later, people start putting the pieces together, and there's the official investigation into what might have caused a fire like that in the first place.

[Dodger is not one for helping others, or letting himself be helped... the only thing he cares about is himself, and as soon as the fire spreads to the fourth floor, he is out. He hadn't bothered to get anything but his ratty hoodie and a small cardboard box full of whatever it is Dodger thinks is important to keep safe... and one jar of fireflies, the only other thing he has the strength to carry with this stupid power suppressor sapping his powers.

Unfortunately, that power suppressor will be stopping him only a few feet outside of the building - it's designed to shock him if he tries to leave the premises. And continue shocking him, at an increasing voltage, the longer he stays out of range. So pretty soon he'll be laying on the ground next to the items he salvaged, clawing harshly at his neck, kicking and screaming as he tries to save himself from the electrocution and the horrible panic set in by having already nearly died from electrocution before.

Ed will be rescuing him from that. No need to worry... but the curious might run across his box, left behind when he was rescued until he had the time to come back and grab it. And more helpfully, his dog will be searching through the building for anyone who needs help. So if you would like to get CR with a robotic malinois, that's an option too.]

[By 2 a.m. Ed and Al were already asleep at the General Store, completely unaware of the fire engulfing the communal housing building. The Pokemon, on the other hand, was well aware of the danger and had made a point of joining in the efforts of putting out the fires. If the need arose one might find Ed's Milotic dragging people from the building, bringing them to healers and medics to get checked out.

That all stopped when the creature was distracted by a situation that wasn't going to be fixed by any medic, at least as far as the Milotic could determine. Thankfully by this point the water snake is no longer wet to add to the electric current torturing Dodger, if he's passive enough he'll get a ride to the nearby store - if not, a 20-foot-snake will be dragging him by whatever it can safely latch onto, whether it's his shirt or an ankle.

Once inside, Dodger will be dumped in the office as the Milotic goes to wake Ed and retrieve him.]

[Lucky for Milotic, his hoodie made a good point to latch onto - but it still may have taken some damage from carrying him over. Dodger's barely conscious enough to register hitting the office floor; he's still clutching at his collar, but he's stopped screaming in favor of just whimpering like a kicked dog.

And by now, the collar is letting out enough electricity for it to be visible in small sparks. Best to get it off soon.]

[When Ed arrives the first thing he notices are the sparks and the whimpering. Which means he doesn't even stop thinking about the repercussions of his actions, kneeling down beside Dodger without so much as a warning and clapping his hands together. He touches one to the ground beside the guy rather than touching him directly because that seemed dangerous, considering he was half metal, himself.

Instantly the collar came open and dropped to the ground. He's not sure Dodger will even hear him at this point, aware of what that kind of damage can do to a person.]

Hey, can you understand me? We should get you to the hospital...

[He has no idea if this guy is going to turn out like Cain and be fine in five minutes, but it hardly seemed like a risk worth taking to see if he snaps out of it before Ed can figure out a plan of action. Luckily, he was already dressed, but he does take a moment to pull his hair back into a high ponytail to keep it from getting in the way, at least.]

[All he notices, as the collar drops, is that the pain has stopped. Well, not all of it - he's definitely still in pain, there's definitely been a fair bit of damage to just about everything in his body. But there's no incoming pain and that's a vast improvement.

He's breathing heavily, too exhausted to use his powers properly even though he's finally free to do so. For a moment his eyes just flicker around the room before landing on Ed, and giving him a questioning stare.]
