everything's on fire
who: Everyone!
what: The residential building is on fire
when: ~2am, August 23rd
where: The Residential building
warnings: Fire, destruction of property, injury, general warnings for crisis situations

It's a reasonably quiet night, pleasantly dry with a slight breeze. Almost nice, for those that enjoy the hours after midnight long before dawn starts to creep on the horizon. Right until it isn't, when the air changes, and there's the scent of heat that promises smoke. In most places it starts with a flash of blue light that arcs from floor to floor as energy pulses through the building, and there's a crack of sound that follows. The power dies for a moment, and if you're one of the unlucky ones, the light that follows is a literal spark in the dark, burning to life in bright orange-red, yielding heat and smoke and trouble. The energy surge doesn't just hit the lights, but sparked flames that burst to life, and they catch quickly, spreading.
The worst of it starts on the ninth floor, where the smoke and the beginning of heat starts moments before the surge. The fire spreads faster there, people starting to startle awake and realize what's happening as the flames crackle. Eventually there's an announcement on the Network, both alerting people to what's happening and trying to organize both those that are willing to help and those that need it.
Some areas are untouched, while others are ravaged badly, reduced to ashes and crumbling ceilings, so watch your step. There's chaos, but through it there's people doing what they can to help each other, and the official fire services show up to help control the blaze. After that, it's just a matter of repairing the damage that's been done, rebuilding and putting things back together, seeing what's been lost and what was saved.
Even later, people start putting the pieces together, and there's the official investigation into what might have caused a fire like that in the first place.
[ooc: As promised, the residential building is on fire! OOC plotting post is here if anyone wants to work out some last minute plans before diving in. Plotting post also includes the relevant details. Elsewise, just top level and mingle. Try not to get burned too badly. :) Good luck!]

"Keith!" Now, had she thought about it, she probably wouldn't have hugged him. Nor with such enthusiasm. But that was hardly Lola's style, to think. She'll pull back in a moment. "I got out really early, I've mostly been trying to figure out where people will stay. ...The ones not going to the hospital anyway."
Of course she's studying his armor, how he's standing, looking for any sign he shouldn't be up and around. At the same time Keith should be feeling a little better as his wounds slowly heal. As he certainly has her full attention right now.

"That's good," Keith said. "And a good idea." Because several of those floors weren't going to be livable until they got fixed, and who knew what condition the building itself was in stability-wise at this point. The whole thing might be out of commission for a while.
On closer inspection, Keith's armor and the suit underneath were both definitely still in one piece, but showed signs that he'd been buried under something at some point. Not bad damage, but definitely dirty and in need of some cleaning up. His left leg had been pinned under a ceiling beam, and he was visibly favoring it as a result.
However, the lesser bruises and things that weren't immediately visible were definitely getting... less sore? And noticeably so? Keith was momentarily confused.
"You're not hurt or anything, right?" Stick with the easy stuff to start with. She'd never mentioned any special abilities or anything, so maybe it was just his imagination? He wasn't sure.

"I think the government will do a better job at setting up housing than I did though, I was a bit angry with some of the hotel staff I called." She yelled at them, in Spanish. It's been a rough night for all the obvious reasons.
Well, it's lucky Lola does equipment and armor too, his suit is cleaner. Not freshly pressed or anything but there's a lot less soot than there should be. On top of all the wound recovery she's accidentally doing, "I'm fine, just tired... I mean, it is the middle of the night and I've been worrying over people out here. And I've been tired a lot of the time."
"How are you?" Because he's the one that was inside longer, and looked... actually okay all things considered. Maybe she was worrying over nothing when she ran up to him.

"You shouldn't push yourself, though," he said. "It's good to help, but running yourself ragged won't help anyone. You need to make sure you're okay first."
Like... look who was talking. He was the one that had been limping around the crowd trying to find people to make sure they were okay with no apparent regard to his own well-being. But, hey... pot meet kettle, right?
Though, now that he thought about it? He was definitely not feeling as sore. That was... and then he noticed that a smudge... rub... scratch... whatever it had been... on the arm plating of his armor was gone. He was pretty sure it had been there before.
"Hey... that's weird." He pulled his arm back from Lola for a moment, turning it to look at the forearm piece. "I'm pretty sure there had been marks on the armor from that caved in ceiling..." There was a marked difference from before. This wasn't just a trick of lighting. He was sure of that.

"Hmm," Lola watches as the armor gets cleaner under their collected gaze. Along with whatever other wounds she's healing off of him with her uncontrolled powers under the armor. "Does your armor normally do that?"
Of course, worrying that something weird is happening to Keith is keeping her focused on him. Keeping her link open and sending him more regenerative energy.
no subject
"The whole thing is doing it."
He also was putting more weight on that leg again.
no subject
But none of that is her.
"Wasn't your leg hurt? You probably shouldn't be putting weight on it."
no subject
"Huh? Oh. Yeah, I uh..." He looked down, kind of confused. "It doesn't really hurt anymore, though..." He carefully flexed his ankle. Nope... that actually didn't feel bad at all... a little stiff, but otherwise fine? Okay... that was weird. "I definitely know that I can't do that."
And, well, now that he thought about it? None of this even started happening until they had noticed each other. And, also? Now that he thought about it? He was feeling some sort of weird thing in his mind... like a connection... that felt almost like Red, but not.
He narrowed his eyes, staring at Lola in confusion.
"Is that coming from you?"
no subject
"What, no, I'm totally normal! I don't do anything like that," of course, she awkwardly ran a hand through her hair and that turned every strand she touched green. Completely undermining her point.
She didn't realize that though, so she's sure she's normal still.

Admittedly clothes cleaning powers would be the sort of thing she'd just... get. But she didn't, she hasn't gotten anything else new. So it can't be her doing this, right? "You really think I'm doing this?
no subject
"You haven't?" Okay, that was unexpected. He frowned a bit. "It didn't start until we met up. And I know I can't do something like that. If I could, it would have started right away up in the building, I'd think. Right?"
He was definitely picking up on some worry vibes here, but that could be anything, really. And, yeah, he could kind of pick up on things, but he'd never picked up on another person's feelings before. He was a little nervous to ask... worried that she might freak out or something.
no subject
And with Lola's worry kinda collapsing in on herself, the link breaks. Her focus has been stretched too far and she's back to thinking about herself too much. No more cleaning, no more healing for the moment. Not until she focuses again.
no subject
"Hey, it's okay. I mean, regardless of what happened, it doesn't seem like it was a bad thing, right?" There were worse things that someone could be doing to him from afar, after all. He looked over himself again. For the most part, he felt fine again. And, while his armor hadn't really been damaged, a lot of the scuffs and soot marks were gone. So, whatever it was had done a pretty decent job. He wasn't going to tell them to take it back.
"Looks like it stopped for now, though..." He was curious about that weird feeling, though, but didn't know how to go looking for it to figure it out. Keith had been teased before about admitting to feeling strange things. He was wary to do that so openly now.

Not really Lola though, not a hero, not a fighter, just... herself. And it was fine, she cooked, that made people happy. She was cute, and fun, and she could manage to get even sour broody boys be a bit more enjoyable company. She had friends, and people that cared about her. She couldn't complain. "Well, I mean, it did some good, whatever it was. So it isn't a big deal it wasn't me."
