OPEN ♦ a cat about town
who: X'rhun Tia and YOU
what: An open mingle while X'rhun acclimates himself to the city. X'rhun will not be suffering from amnesia himself, but characters who are can certainly come bother him.
when: Mid-August, shortly after his arrival in the Quarantine.
where: Various places, including communal housing floor 10 and outside the perimeter fence.
warnings: None at the moment!
A | COMMUNAL HOUSING, floor 10
[ He has been informed that this is where he lives, now. He’s not unused to sharing space with others, so he’s not to bothered. His fellow Duelists occupied the same space as the resistance fighters of his homeland, and there was certainly not enough space there to go around. This place, however, is roomier and more well-furnished than even some of the inns he’s stayed in on his travels.
The red mage doesn’t have anything he cares to leave in the trunk at the end of his bed, preferring to keep his rapier and the accompanying crystal secure at his hips, so he gives the sleeping area only a cursory inspection before heading for the kitchen area.
Alright, stove, sink, cabinets. All standard, if a bit strangely designed. It’s the fridge that catches his attention, and he opens it to get a blast of cold air in the face. It’s not hard to discern its purpose after peering inside. ]
That is ingenious.
B | AROUND TOWN
[ X’rhun has learned that the sound of every approaching vehicle is not an attacking enemy in magitek armor, but now and again he still tenses at it. Decades of habit are difficult to break.
Aside from that, however, the city itself is fascinating. Instead of open-air markets, the shops are sectioned off into neat little rooms all their own. It’s strangely quiet to his ears without people shouting and bartering and trying to hock their wares, until he catches the sounds of a cheering crowd. He follows the noise to an electronics shop. The array of televisions set up in the front window are showing some sort of sporting event, but it just looks like chaos to X’rhun.
More than anything, he’s captivated by the clarity of the picture. If he didn’t know better, he’d think he was watching through a window, rather than some sort of video broadcast, like he’s seen on the network. His tail twitches as he watches, clearly absorbed until he catches the reflection of a passerby in the window. ]
Dare I ask if you know the rules of this game?
C | PERIMETER FENCE
[ Okay, so the forests are crawling with monsters, but frankly it’s the closest thing to home he’s come across here. It’s quieter, away from the central areas of the city, even if the fence is a massive technological beast in and of itself. Being on the Guard gives X’rhun a reason to step outside the city when he likes, though he doesn’t dare go too far until he has a better grasp of his surroundings.
His self-imposed boundaries still give him leave to wander through the woods a decent distance, eyes and ears alert, one hand on the hilt of his blade should he need it. ]
D | ANYTHING ELSE
[ Want a different starter or have an idea of your own? Feel free to let me know or begin your own thread. If you want to plan something, I can be reached at
exposition or with a PM to X’rhun’s journal! ]

I see, thank you.
[ He eyes the aluminum can in her hand critically. He's not so sure what to make of the noise it made when she opened it ] I may as well try it, if you've one to spare.
no subject
It's citrus-flavored, but it's carbonated so it's kinda... bubbly? You'll get it once you try it!
no subject
Well, it does smell like citrus- an aggressively fake sort of citrus that frankly has him worried, but nothing ventured nothing gained, he supposes! With that, he brings it to his lips and takes a drink--
--aaaand promptly starts coughing. ]
Seven hells-! [ This, in between the coughing ] When you said "bubbly" this isn't what I expected!
no subject
What were you expecting?
no subject
His face is beginning to match the color of his clothes, so he takes a moment to compose himself, leaning his back against the counter and sweeping his hat off his head with his free hand to fan himself with it. ] Gods. Well, that will teach me to be unprepared.
no subject
are those cat ears
what ]
... Wait, are you a furry.
no subject
I… do have fur, yes, but I’m not sure I know what you mean by a furry.
no subject
But her eyes widen when she sees the ears twitch because, ah, those are... real... cat... ears...?
... She closes her mouth. ]
H...uh. Okay. Never mind what I said, then.
So you're part... cat?
no subject
It's not quite that simple, but sort of?
[ He angles his body a little, bringing up his tail so she can see ]
At the very least we probably share some very distant ancestry.
no subject
Cool.
She looks to consider that for a bit, like imagining some sort of alternate reality where that was a Thing, and then she asks: ]
Are there bunny people where you're from?
no subject
Ah, there are the viera, but I’ve never seen one personally. They do share some features with rabbits, namely the ears.
no subject
What, that's so awesome! What are they like? Do you get along with them or not really since cats and rabbits don't really get along?
no subject
As I said, I’ve never met one, so I wouldn’t know how well viera and miqo’te get along. They’re not native to Eorzea, so I’ve only read of them or heard tales.
no subject
[ He did say that. She shrugs and then makes her way over to the table in the kitchen, plopping herself down on one of the seats with her soda and looks up at him. ]
Is Eorzea the country your from? What's it like?
no subject
[ There’s a pause, as he considers the best way to describe his homeland to someone who has never seen it. ]
Nowhere near as bright, or loud, or even crowded as the Quarantine. This place puts even the busiest markets in Ul’dah to shame. Most of this— [ he motions to the kitchen appliances ] –is alien to me as well.
no subject
If you're ever confused about what things are and stuff, you can totally ask me.
[ She pulls out her phone, which might look similar to whatever device X'rhun would have received upon his arrival. ]
Did you get one of these?
no subject
The offer is appreciated. I may well take you up on that.
[ When she withdraws her communication device, X’rhun brings out his own. It’s one of the more basic models, but still far beyond anything he’s dealt with before. ]
Aye, I did. Do you offer tutorials for these as well?
no subject
Yeah, I can totally help you with that! Here, I'll give you my handle, and I can show you how you can contact me or anyone else whenever you need help.
[ She holds her hand out palm up so he can hand her his phone and begin the tutorial immediately. ]
no subject
[ He hands it over, regardless. What a strange thing to call a communication device. ]
no subject
No, no, a handle is like... a codename? Alias? You use it when you communicate with other people online. They made you one when you arrived, right?
[ She shifts so that he can watch the screen of the device as she navigated the screens. ]
See this little picture there? If you touch it, it'll take you to this screen... and then you can type who you want to message. My handle is D.Va. [ so she types that in, and then she shows him how it's now asking for a message. ] Now you can type in whatever you want to say to me. [ she types in hiya and then hits the send button; shortly after, Hana's own phone chimes and vibrates. ] That button sends it. And now I got the message!
no subject
[ He peers over at the device in Hana’s hands and watches with rapt attention. This is so far beyond him, and yet here is this girl wielding this technology as though it were second nature. Truly, he has a long way to go.
Slowly, he nods as she goes through the steps. The message that arrives on Hana’s phone comes from "crimson.duelist". ]
Ah, I see. It is somewhat like communicating via linkpearl, though with text instead of one’s voice.
no subject
Yeah, sure! I mean, you can use this to communicate with your voice, too. You speak into it and it can record ad send a voice message, or you can call someone and just, like, talk to them over this thing.
no subject
not even the game devs]Is there anything it can't do? It seems that would be the shorter list.
no subject
Actually, there's really nothing it can't do. Except maybe, like, bring you back to your home dimension or whatever.
no subject
[ It’s clear by his tone and the grin on his face that he’s joking. He would very much like to go home, as would everyone he imagines, but he never actually expected that much out of this little box. ]
I suppose I’ll have to make do with it being able to do everything else instead.
