introductory mingle: FLOWER FESTIVAL
what: Introductory Log and Flower Festival Celebration
when: April 2nd - April 15th
where: In several different locations in the downtown area of the Inhabited City.
warnings: please put any necessary warnings in the subject lines

In the days leading up to April 2nd, residents new and old may notice advertising around the city, everywhere from digital screens to paper flyers pasted on blank walls, all advertising an upcoming holiday: The Flower Festival. Celebrating springtime, beauty, joy, and togetherness, the festival heavily features floral themes and dancing. The advertising mentions that on April 10th, a paid holiday, there will be a Blossom Picnic, as well as lists of various public dances at clubs or other open venues, and adult raves.

The Flower Festival's main event is the Blossom Picnic on April 10th, but it also features traditions of sharing food and drink, and dancing that span over the course of the whole two weeks. There are a large variety of events going on throughout the city, from dancing lessons in any wide variety of traditional dances, to old-fashioned sock hops, to adult raves complete with mild party drugs. Feel free to use the prompts below or create your own event at any point during the festival, and if your character creates an event and hosts it in a top-level, you can submit that thread for extra bonus points.
i. blossom picnic
The main event that kicks off the second week of the Flower Festival is the Blossom Picnic on April 10th. A relaxed and low-key event, it draws several thousand people every year to the spacious Riverview Central Park, where there is a generous lawn lined with various blossoming trees, and families, found families, lovers, and groups of friends are encouraged to lay out a picnic blanket and share food. There will be live bands playing (but not loudly enough to distract from conversation and peacefully watching the petals flutter in the wind), a variety of demonstrations of traditional cultural dances from many different realities and planets, and a ton of ice cream vendors. This is an excellent festival not only for celebrating togetherness with the people who are already important, but for mingling and making new friends.
Characters may either pack their own lunches or they can purchase pre-packed Blossom Festival lunches. Stores and street markets are carrying a wide variety of specialty food that is only available at this time of year - predominantly pastries, an assortment of types of candies, and ice cream treats all in various floral flavors, as well as a sort of ambrosia salad based around a sweet rose-flavored cream and a native fruit that is bright green and tastes like a combination of peach and citrus.
ii. dancing lessons
Starting on April 2nd, there will be dancing lessons offered almost everywhere you look! From partner dances to group dances to line dances; sexy and sensual or innocent and childlike - almost any type of dance you can imagine is represented, from any reality or planet that has people in Riverview Quarantine.
Additionally, the Riverview Central Community Center has multiple rooms blocked off so anyone who knows a dance from home can teach it to others in their community - sharing is caring, after all. Characters are welcome to block off one of these rooms and offer lessons in any dance they happen to know from home (and these sorts of thread starters would be eligible for the mingle AC Point bonus)!
iii. flower festival dancing
This is pretty simply what it says on the tin - in almost every club, community center, or other public space, there will be dancing at almost all hours of the day or night, formal and informal. Musicians bring out their instruments and play in the street for demonstrations of cultural dances and music at the same time as clubs are offering VIP cover charges for exclusive dances, and you can find anything in between.
There are also many low-cover-charge raves that allow under-18s so younger characters can stay up all night and dance like crazy. The legal drinking age in Riverview Quarantine is 14, and so anyone over 14 can enter and indulge in a few drinks, dancing, and playing tag with a non-intoxicating version of the colored powder featured at the adult raves. There is copious amounts of security on site to ensure that everyone is safe, as well as nurses and off-duty police officers to offer advice or care for anyone who overindulges out of lack of experience.
Grab a partner, a group of friends, or just cruise and mingle the various dancing events.
Characters may also notice that most of the street markets and clothing shops are offering clothing that features floral patterns, flowers as accessories, and that show a lot of skin - for men, women, and anyone in between!
iv. adult raves
Advertised on flyers and digital screens around the city, made to pop as if they were under blacklight, is a series of adult raves that are happening in various large empty warehouse spaces around the city, including one that is listed as the danger rave and hosted in an abandoned factory outside the inhabited city walls. With bouncers at the door to ensure that anyone entering is 18+, the raves are comfortably adult in nature. Clothing is optional, showing skin is encouraged, and there are a lot of neatly tucked away spaces for attendees to get some time alone with one or more than one person, as well as spaces intended for orgies. The atmosphere is sex-positive and non-judgemental, open to any orientation or preference, with various forms of protection available for free, however, to ensure that everyone plays safe there are sober security teams out en masse at all premises to oversee the events.
(CW: DRUG USE) In each location, there is one specific room where attendees can enter, and dance or play tag with brightly colored powder that contains small amounts of a legal party drug commonly available in Riverview, which is absorbed through the skin. Not much more intoxicating than having a few beers, the effects of the drug are a pleasant low-key buzzing euphoria, positive sensitivity to touch, a heightening of desires for intimacy, and a mild lowering of inhibitions. Once a character has been hit with the powder, the color lingers on the skin so other attendees can know who has partaken, but once the powder makes contact with a surface it deactivates, meaning that partakers can safely dance with non-partakers without sharing the intoxicating effects.
Please be sure to warn in subject lines for any threads involving drug use. And remember, there is always security to intervene and make sure everyone is safe.
v. roommates or wildcard
Feel free to use this prompt to set up headers for a communal floor, or threads open to roommates for the purpose of getting to know each other. Or if you have an idea for a prompt that isn't in this list, set at the Flower Festival, feel free to write it up!

Bryn Zethir | OTA
[Bryn makes it back from her latest foray beyond the fence in time for the start of the festival. Oh, she's missed the dancing lessons and a good portion of the shopping initially available, but she's back when it counts. After a good night's sleep she dresses for a casual day out in the city, grabs her keys, and heads down to the garage where her bike is. The vehicle is her baby, one of the few things from home she has here, and she hasn't felt like taking it out beyond the fence yet. With an opportunity to ride it now, especially on such a beautiful day like today, she couldn't be happier.
She spends an hour riding it around town, cruising down the streets admiring all of the flowers and prep people have done for the holiday. It's almost as enjoyable as the sun on her skin and the breeze in her hair. As a result, she's loathe to leave her bike, even for the promise of picnicking. So, instead, she stocks up on more portable treats. Pastries, canned drinks, and eventually an ice cream. Parked at the edge of the picnic area, she pulls her helmet off and sits on her bike, enjoying the floral tasting ice cream in a cup, watching people walk by or sit under the trees. It reminds her a little of some of the Spring festivals back home in Khipari, truthfully, but not so much that it feels like home to her.
Enjoying her day off, she stays settled on her bike, half-considering taking another ride around the area just to unwind. Somewhere along the way she expects she'll find some shop or stand or another that will sell clothing suitable for the evening dances and raves. Until then, well, there's ice cream and pastries and people watching.]
→ adult raves
[It takes absolutely no arm twisting to get Bryn to the rave. She barely meandered through the adult section during Sampremi, and while she doesn't regret that, she has no plans to abstain during this holiday as well. Time spent out beyond the fence is time spent doing something worthwhile, and it earns her paycheck, but all too often she goes alone which leaves her a little more inclined to be social when she gets back.
Truthfully, it's an odd feeling for her. She's used to having other agents to interact with, to converse with during her off time. Here in Riverview she feels so oddly settled and off-balance, like she hasn't quite figured out how she fits into this place or among these people. Perhaps it's the lack of Council that's throwing her off, or the lack of deities, or even just the fact that she's Askoupuran. It's something of a known fact that Askoupurans, more than most, can be extremely tied to their homes, more inclined to get homesick while away even. Whatever the case, it's clear after her time spent riding around time on her bike that she needs to do something to take the edge off.
So she changes into something a little more revealing and a lot tighter and heads to the raves meant for adults. During Sampremi she'd behaved herself, wanting to stay sober and aware of both her surroundings and the people at the festival. Having gotten a better sense of the city she's taking tonight off. Maybe the next three if it goes well. With Taako to join her on occasion she doesn't see why she shouldn't. The first night she only has a few drinks, not wanting to overdo it with the powder that she tries as well. The next night, and the one after she tries to find the perfect balance of each, embracing the buzzed, happy feeling she gets. The fact that the crush of people around her as she dances feels good rather than suffocating only helps matters.
More relaxed, she spends a good portion of her time drinking and dancing, and leaves the rest up to chance.]
Adult Rave
*Chandra looks very out of place, not her outfit. Well... sorta her outfit, she's a bit more modestly covered than the people wearing clothes. It's more a body language thing. She's wearing something girly, which isn't really her. She's at a party, something she rarely gets to go to. And there are people doing very athletic sex things... which are interesting but a bit intimidating. Why didn't the monks have wild parties like this? Sure they partied but not partied partied. She's dodging around some people, which is fun if she can make it look like dancing, and nearly stumbles into Bryn. Almost, however, she saves it at the last second and only the edge of her saree gets a bit of powder on it (but far from her skin).*
I hope I didn't spill your drink. Or step on you.
*Chandra still looks really out of place. And she's not helping anything radiating some excess heat. This is a rave, it does not need more heat.*
no subject
Brows knit together, she studies the other woman.]
No, neither. I'm good, thanks. You?
[She doesn't know what caused the woman to lose her balance but she doubts it was on purpose so she may have been pushed herself.]
no subject
*Chandra was checking herself over, not for powder. No, usual thing, making sure none of her is on fire. Adjusting her goggles as a totally smooth attempt to run her hand through her hair. To make sure that's not on fire either. Good, cool, relaxed.*
I'm Chandra.
no subject
[She looks over Chandra briefly, but flashes her a brief smile.]
And no, no powder on you as far as I can see. But you know it doesn't work if it gets on you from someone else, right? I mean, if it's already touched their skin, bam. One time, immediate use, so you don't have to shy away from getting cozy with people out on the dance floor.
[Though it's warm enough in this particular area that Bryn's not feeling like getting close to anyone for a little while.]

dat bike
But this is by no means mundane. He perks up the moment he spots the bike from afar, not paying much mind to the owner sitting on it as he makes his way over, grin wider the closer he gets, eyes positively glowing with wonder and excitement. ]
Oh my God, what a gorgeous babe! [ There's a bit more staring, then he looks up at the girl, still grinning as he lifts his hands apologetically. ] The bike— I meant the bike. Sorry.
dat sexy sexy bike
The bike is one of the few indulgences Bryn's allowed herself, a classic motorcycle restored years and years after it was originally built. The rumble and purr of the engine isn't as deep as some of the larger bikes but she doesn't need one that announces her a block before she ever arrives. It's sleek and stylish, and one of the few things from home she's glad to have with her. The clothing, the contents of her apartment are all replaceable. Some things, like the bike, are not.
She's in the midst of watching a couple feed each other pastries on a blanket about fifty yards off when an exclamation draws her attention. Lifting a brow, she turns toward the man, chin lifting and lips curving into a smile.]
No apologies necessary. That's my reaction every time I step into the garage. [She swings a leg over the bike to stand, placing it between them.] Take a closer look if you'd like.
no subject
She really looks amazing. Bikes like this are a rarity where I come from. When I come from, more accurately.
[ He runs his fingers through the parts, perfectly kept and perfectly polished, and is reminded a little of the machines his dad kept in the garage. Left behind, more like. ] Can't say I'm familiar with the model, but it looks like an old Harley. You got her here?
no subject
It's satisfying to watch someone treat it with the reverence it's due.]
No, it's from back home. Popped through the portal, I guess and they dropped it off. I had a friend who helped me restore it back home a few years back. This style is pretty old back home as well, they've got new hover vehicles people favor, but it's a bit too much like riding around in a misshapen egg. Open air's best, especially when I let it loose out on the highways.

rave
Being brought to this place, so soon after so much tragedy, has thrown him off massively. Still when he closes his eyes, he sees the body of his brother bleeding out on the marble floor, dead eyes staring at Damen, staring through Damen.
He wants to forget. He's splattered in metallic gold powder, almost seeming like artful designs on his olive skin, and he's up at the bar, getting another drink. When a woman slides in next to him, he signals to the bartender,]
Two of whatever she's having.
no subject
All of that dancing is thirsty business, however, and so she finds herself making frequent trips to the bar. She'd had a strong drink at the beginning of the evening, and a dousing of the powder as well, but when she returns to the bar it's usually for water. This time, however, with the attractive man next to her telling the bartender for two of whatever she's having, well, she decides it's time for something stronger again.]
Two of the specials? The ones with the pink flower toppers... [Blight if she can remember the name. Turning to the man, she flashes him a smile.] They're strong and not too sweet. [Her gaze slips over him taking in the outfit, the casual tank and the eye-catching gold shorts and cuff. She's dressed for a party but the look in her eyes is far more analytical. After a moment, she holds out her hand.]
I'm Bryn.
no subject
[He takes her hand, leans down to press a chaste kiss to the top of it. It's something obviously trained into him because he goes through the motion without a second thought, greeting her like he would a kyros's daughter or visiting princess, if this were Akielos.] Damen. A pleasure.
no subject
It is indeed. [The bartender begins mixing their drinks, and Bryn answers his other question while they wait.] The flowers are a theme of the festival. They usually don't garnish with them--fruit and lemon peel and olives are more likely with their mixed drinks--but with the special occasion...
[Well, with the festival you just can't get away from them.]
I'd had half a mind to start tangling them in my hair, but I know by the end of the evening it'll be up to me to get it all untangled. [And by that point she hopes to be happily inebriated, too much so to manage something that requires fine motor skills.] I assume by your question that you're not a local. Did you just get into town recently?

Picnic I suppose?
He's just about to close up the file as he crosses a street when he literally nearly trips over the front tire of the motorcycle parked on the curb. Luckily he catches his footing with a soft curse before looking up to the person sitting in the grass near it.]
Apologies, miss, I should watch where I'm goin'. [He offers a soft smile, the warm and polite kind his mama taught him when dealin' with ladies, then nods his head.] Glad I didn't cause any damage for ya.
Exactly what I had in mind :> and because you prefer prose...
Bryn offers him a reassuring smile, making no move to investigate the bike. A sign of faith that it's fine.
"And there's a lot to see around here so it's understandable. Looking for anything or anyone in particular or are you just taking in the sights?" she asks. At the moment, she's enjoying a relaxing afternoon out. In a few days or so she'll be back out beyond the fence, dodging monsters and looking for signs of what used to be life and civilization out there. Engaging in casual conversation with people she meets throughout the day seems the perfect way to pass the time until things kick up at night.
You're so sweet <3
Glancing around at the area, she wasn't lyin'. Granted, that wasn't why he nearly tripped over a motorcycle. Reaching up with his free hand, he rubbed at the back of his neck smiling as his cheeks reddened. "There is a lot to see, too bad I wasn't even lookin' at that. I was just tryin' to catch up on some things here. It's not like back home." Glancing back up at her, he shrugged a little.
"Figured if I was gonna do that, may as well force myself to get out and see the place I'm tryin' to take care of. How 'bout you? Enjoyin' the festival?"
no subject
It's part of why she's so relaxed. There's no hurry, no rush here. She can enjoy herself fully and then when it's all over head back beyond the fence to see what else is out there. Enjoy the best of both sides of this place.
"Had a chance to try any of the food yet? Or the drinks? They've got these little pastry buns that are pretty addictive, honestly. Was thinking of getting another if you wanted to try it yourself?" The invitation comes easily. His mention of back home marks him as someone new, as does his reaction to the festival. Why not offer him a welcome of sorts, and find out about his world in the process?

blossom picnic
He's not done yet, though. Wandering through the crowd, he stops near Bryn to take a short break. When they catch each other's eyes, he smiles.
She has a good eye for colour and would photograph well. Clark waves at her with the camera. ]
May I?
no subject
She hadn't taken him for a photographer, however. Intrigued, she leans back on the seat of her bike with an easy smile.]
Snap away.
[She's not a ham for the camera but she does give him a smile, even shift her positioning in little ways here and there to give him a little variety to pick from. Today she hasn't gone out of her way to dress up or to her best, but the bike is gorgeous and will carry any pictures he takes, she's sure.]
no subject
He clicks a few photographs, pleased that he doesn't have to ask her to move much. She's a natural. ]
Thank you. Do you want to look through them and pick your favorite for the editor?
no subject
Didn't think any editors would let their subjects do the choosing. How about I just tell you if there are any I don't like?
[She's not going to make his job harder by insisting on one picture. If the presses are as controlling here as they can be back home then that's probably the best offer she'd get, even if Clark says she can pick her favorite.]

Motorcycle
That is, apparently, a bad idea, as he runs out right in front of a motorcycle that he didn't see coming and goes flying. He's okay, it'll take a lot more than that to damage him, but he is a bit dazed.]
no subject
Even relaxed, however, she's careful enough to keep an eye on where she's going. When a figure darts across the road she swerves abruptly to avoid hitting them. The car going in the other direction, however, isn't so quick at the steering wheel. Bryn brakes, just as she hears the thump of a body hitting the corner of the car. Eyes wide, she leaves her bike there in the road, immediately rushing to Bucky's side.
She recognizes him at once, but is careful not to move him just yet.] Adam? It's Bryn--are you okay?
[Her eyes scan for any sign of injury but at a glance nothing appears to be bleeding or broken. Small mercies.]
no subject
It takes him a second to place who she is, before recalling that awkward afternoon in the mall when he accidentally got assimilated into the speed dating event. She had been pleasant enough, not seemingly a threat, though her world had sounded odd.]
Yeah.
[He pushes himself up in one fluid movement, ignoring the spots of blood on the road and the back of his head.]
I'm fine. I should've been paying more attention.
no subject
Then she sees the blood, from his head, on his hand, and her eyes narrow.]
You're definitely not okay. We should get you to a hospital, get that head wound cleaned up.
[Get a CT scan to make sure there isn't any worse damage internally.]
