introductory mingle: FLOWER FESTIVAL
what: Introductory Log and Flower Festival Celebration
when: April 2nd - April 15th
where: In several different locations in the downtown area of the Inhabited City.
warnings: please put any necessary warnings in the subject lines

In the days leading up to April 2nd, residents new and old may notice advertising around the city, everywhere from digital screens to paper flyers pasted on blank walls, all advertising an upcoming holiday: The Flower Festival. Celebrating springtime, beauty, joy, and togetherness, the festival heavily features floral themes and dancing. The advertising mentions that on April 10th, a paid holiday, there will be a Blossom Picnic, as well as lists of various public dances at clubs or other open venues, and adult raves.

The Flower Festival's main event is the Blossom Picnic on April 10th, but it also features traditions of sharing food and drink, and dancing that span over the course of the whole two weeks. There are a large variety of events going on throughout the city, from dancing lessons in any wide variety of traditional dances, to old-fashioned sock hops, to adult raves complete with mild party drugs. Feel free to use the prompts below or create your own event at any point during the festival, and if your character creates an event and hosts it in a top-level, you can submit that thread for extra bonus points.
i. blossom picnic
The main event that kicks off the second week of the Flower Festival is the Blossom Picnic on April 10th. A relaxed and low-key event, it draws several thousand people every year to the spacious Riverview Central Park, where there is a generous lawn lined with various blossoming trees, and families, found families, lovers, and groups of friends are encouraged to lay out a picnic blanket and share food. There will be live bands playing (but not loudly enough to distract from conversation and peacefully watching the petals flutter in the wind), a variety of demonstrations of traditional cultural dances from many different realities and planets, and a ton of ice cream vendors. This is an excellent festival not only for celebrating togetherness with the people who are already important, but for mingling and making new friends.
Characters may either pack their own lunches or they can purchase pre-packed Blossom Festival lunches. Stores and street markets are carrying a wide variety of specialty food that is only available at this time of year - predominantly pastries, an assortment of types of candies, and ice cream treats all in various floral flavors, as well as a sort of ambrosia salad based around a sweet rose-flavored cream and a native fruit that is bright green and tastes like a combination of peach and citrus.
ii. dancing lessons
Starting on April 2nd, there will be dancing lessons offered almost everywhere you look! From partner dances to group dances to line dances; sexy and sensual or innocent and childlike - almost any type of dance you can imagine is represented, from any reality or planet that has people in Riverview Quarantine.
Additionally, the Riverview Central Community Center has multiple rooms blocked off so anyone who knows a dance from home can teach it to others in their community - sharing is caring, after all. Characters are welcome to block off one of these rooms and offer lessons in any dance they happen to know from home (and these sorts of thread starters would be eligible for the mingle AC Point bonus)!
iii. flower festival dancing
This is pretty simply what it says on the tin - in almost every club, community center, or other public space, there will be dancing at almost all hours of the day or night, formal and informal. Musicians bring out their instruments and play in the street for demonstrations of cultural dances and music at the same time as clubs are offering VIP cover charges for exclusive dances, and you can find anything in between.
There are also many low-cover-charge raves that allow under-18s so younger characters can stay up all night and dance like crazy. The legal drinking age in Riverview Quarantine is 14, and so anyone over 14 can enter and indulge in a few drinks, dancing, and playing tag with a non-intoxicating version of the colored powder featured at the adult raves. There is copious amounts of security on site to ensure that everyone is safe, as well as nurses and off-duty police officers to offer advice or care for anyone who overindulges out of lack of experience.
Grab a partner, a group of friends, or just cruise and mingle the various dancing events.
Characters may also notice that most of the street markets and clothing shops are offering clothing that features floral patterns, flowers as accessories, and that show a lot of skin - for men, women, and anyone in between!
iv. adult raves
Advertised on flyers and digital screens around the city, made to pop as if they were under blacklight, is a series of adult raves that are happening in various large empty warehouse spaces around the city, including one that is listed as the danger rave and hosted in an abandoned factory outside the inhabited city walls. With bouncers at the door to ensure that anyone entering is 18+, the raves are comfortably adult in nature. Clothing is optional, showing skin is encouraged, and there are a lot of neatly tucked away spaces for attendees to get some time alone with one or more than one person, as well as spaces intended for orgies. The atmosphere is sex-positive and non-judgemental, open to any orientation or preference, with various forms of protection available for free, however, to ensure that everyone plays safe there are sober security teams out en masse at all premises to oversee the events.
(CW: DRUG USE) In each location, there is one specific room where attendees can enter, and dance or play tag with brightly colored powder that contains small amounts of a legal party drug commonly available in Riverview, which is absorbed through the skin. Not much more intoxicating than having a few beers, the effects of the drug are a pleasant low-key buzzing euphoria, positive sensitivity to touch, a heightening of desires for intimacy, and a mild lowering of inhibitions. Once a character has been hit with the powder, the color lingers on the skin so other attendees can know who has partaken, but once the powder makes contact with a surface it deactivates, meaning that partakers can safely dance with non-partakers without sharing the intoxicating effects.
Please be sure to warn in subject lines for any threads involving drug use. And remember, there is always security to intervene and make sure everyone is safe.
v. roommates or wildcard
Feel free to use this prompt to set up headers for a communal floor, or threads open to roommates for the purpose of getting to know each other. Or if you have an idea for a prompt that isn't in this list, set at the Flower Festival, feel free to write it up!

gladio, don't be such a speciesist
Hah, good! [ Oh yes, and here comes that clap on the back. ] What, this? [ Gladio drops his chin and looks at the way he's been dusted with bright magenta, blue, and a strange blending of purple as a result. His left arm has a stripe of green. ]
Dunno, but ever since I've been feeling a little funny. [ He frowns, turning his hand before him. He's not an unintelligent guy, and in his line of work - back home, at least - requires him to be keenly aware of his surroundings, observant. He knows it's the dust causing it, but otherwise it seems harmless. ] It's not bad, kinda feels good.
Anyway, it's a drink you're after, right? What'll you have?
no subject
Yeah? Well, paint hard to see there's no harm done.
Anyway, uh... I'll be honest. I don't recognize any of this.
[ He spreads a bony hand at the row of bottles he can see from his own vantage point. Mind helping a fellow newbie out?
Let's be honest: practically everyone, wherever Sans looks in this party atmosphere full of gyrating people, seems to be at least a little tipsy, a little high on life. He can't say he really sees the appeal that others of these (if not humans universally, then:) non-monsters see in each other's paint-powder-smeared, partially clad bodies (he really, really doesn't), but there's one thing here he CAN relate with:
And that's the decision to have a good time even if things aren't really what you wanted, expected, or think you need at the time. So, yeah, ok. Good on these guys, living it up so they can face another confusing day tomorrow. After all, it ain't all THAT different from how the bar flies back home would hang out regularly, basking in the warm glow of the fiery bartender of Grillby's, washing down their problems and sharing a few good laughs.
Heh heh, he'll drink to that.
Speaking of, he's pretty sure a place like this isn't packing any ketchup. Too bad. ]
Beets me, think they got anything with tomato in it?
no subject
He scarcely notices how he almost sends the skeleton careening into the bar itself. Gladio, slow your roll. ]
The drinks? Huh... now what you mention it. [ The Shield considers the rows upon rows of unfamiliar labels, all containing liquids in colors varying from the innocent and innocuous to appealing hues to tempt the eye. He shrugs and beckons the bartender over with a lazy wave as he turns back to the monster. ] Buyer's choice then.
[ When the bartender arrives: ] Got anything savory?
[ The bartender brightens, and lists several drinks - a bloody mary, a smokey tea mingled with whiskey, and a few other offerings that qualify as 'savory'. ]
Just tomato juice for me. I don't wanna find out whether or not this paint mixes with alcohol.
no subject
However, Sans waits until the big guy finishes placing his order, a chuckle shaking his shoulders once he's settled into the bar stool. ]
Good call. I'll take a Bloody Mary. [ He leans over to wink up at the human: ] Killer name, huh? [ That bony hand pats the stool next to him, in a wordless invitation to join him, since he's paying. ] Mary never find out if they're a bad combination, pal.
[ As he straightens -- only to bend his elbow on the edge of the bar and sag his whole weight into the cup of his palm, placed against his oddly pliant cheekbone -- Sans scans the room of shifting bright lights, pounding music, and multitude of gyrating bodies with half-lidded indolence. He hardly seems engaged in the festivities, so much as lazily amused. Most come to the bar to grab a drink and get back to the dance floor, or the little lounge spaces tucked around, and--uh, some blocked off rooms, for some reason?
Whatever. ]
Y'know, where I'm from it's usually customary to give your name after a monster's given you his.
no subject
What are you, some kind of comedian?
[ Whoops, the skeleton guy is completely right. Thankfully the vibrant dosing seems to have loosened up this militant guy into a more easy-going frame of mind, but also a touch neglectful in his social obligations. Gladio extends a hand - lowered, of course, because Sans is on the small side. His hand probably dwarfs Sans' too - mind the bone-crushing grip. ]
Gladiolus Amicitia.
no subject
That's ok, it still brought in the G needed to keep a roof over his brother's head.
The drinks arrive, and Sans eyes it off curiously for a moment; by the time he hears Gladio's name, he's started stirring the red concoction with the included straw. Needless to say, he's got the skeleton's full attention again. ]
Heh heh heh, oh man. Enough of these and I ain't gonna remember. Got something shorter?
no subject
[ There's the short version, well. One of, at least. Gladio waves vaguely before pulling his drink closer to him on the bar, totally unnecessary given the dosing but, hey - everyone's gotta cut loose now and again, right? It's not like he has a king or a prince to guard at the moment. ]
So, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you're not from around here.
[ But honestly, Gladio hasn't met a single local or anyone who has claimed as much - is everyone here in Quarantine just waiting to get in? ]
no subject
[ Somehow, Sans manages to get the straw to do its job, pressed up against his row of grinning teeth, as one generous pull on it drops the level of blended red liquid in the glass a little--
And Sans makes a queer sort of hurk sound, seizing a fistful of bar napkins and holding it up to his... neck? Sputtering, for all that a skeleton lacks anything to choke on.
Finally, giving his drink a sidelong glance, he jokes: ]
What gave me away? It's the clothes, ain't it?
[ Sans tosses the crumpled - and now tomato stained - napkins onto the bar, and starts stirring his glass with a phalanx. As he does, some pale wisps of... steam? No, more like a very, very faint blue thread of diffuse light is exhaled off the surface of his drink in a way not dissimilar to steam. He keeps talking. ]
Eh, they say clothes make the monster. That ain't me. My brother, on the other hand, he can look cool in anything.
[ Look, don't mind him as he tries to make this drink easier to, uh, drink? It's just a magic thing. And besides -- he's obviously kidding about the clothes, he knows how different he looks. ]
no subject
Something like that. [ His appearance for sure, but then there's plenty of things that look utterly alien to the Shield, concepts that would never occur to him are not thrust into his face demanding acknowledgment. For example, the impossibility of a skeleton without lips or lungs or anything to create the suction required to draw a drink from a straw, or to somehow drink through one's teeth.
The sudden spill of red gushing at Sans' neck has Gladio tensing immediately, instinct momentarily raising alarms as the color and location and that strange gurgle screams 'injury' to him, but he settles down as the smile flees his face and is replaced with a disturbed curiosity. ]
Hey, isn't that taking it a little too far? [ Can you even drink?! ]
no subject
And starts laughing. Not just any low huffs, chuckles from a skeleton too tired to do anything more boisterous, either, but something a little higher and more ridiculous. Sans is genuinely tickled. ]
Your face!
[ Another moment and he's sinking his weight onto his arm, relaxing into the fist propping his skull up. ]
Man, that's never gonna get old. And yeah. It's fine.
[ He directs his eye lights back to his drink, where he stops stirring his drink with a finger to explain. ]
Just givin' it a little magical juice. Makes it go down easier, instead of, y'know. Right through me.
