who: Sam (sort of), MCU Steve, Peggy, maybe Wanda
what: After buying a date with Steve, Sam plays fairy godmother. Or matchmaker. Maybe both.
when: sometime after the masquerade
where: Sam and Wanda's townhouse
warnings: Date shenanigans. Probably cuteness.
From the time Sam wins Steve at the auction, a nebulous idea - maybe even a Plan - begins to form in his mind (thanks, perhaps, to the alcohol flowing freely at the masquerade). But before he starts to plan anything, he has to get Wanda's approval - and, as it turns out, she has some suggestions that get her upgraded from confidant to partner in crime. (Sometimes he doesn't know what he would do without her, honestly.)
He spends a week frantically planning, combing through recipes, and taste-testing on both Wanda and the mice, but by Saturday, he thinks he's ready. He'll have to be ready, because there's no other option. Wanda leaves for a spa day with Peggy, Stephen teleports a suit onto Steve's bed (with a note telling him to be at his house at 6:45 for their date), and Sam starts cooking.
Several hours later, he's done with everything - or as done as he's going to get. The lasagna and garlic bread are warming in the oven, there's a cake waiting on the counter, and a salad in the fridge, along with an assortment of beverages. He's got a floral arrangement on the table, already set for two. Candles, unlit, wait in the living room, with a selection of music and movies. And the guest bedroom, should they need it, is neat and clean, with freshly made sheets.
Sam flops down on the couch for about five minutes to take a break and write Steve a note.
Steve-
Sorry I had to leave, but something came up at the last minute. The lasagna's in the oven; take it out at 7. Salad's in the fridge. The house is yours till tomorrow morning - enjoy! :) The guest room's all made up for you. If you need anything, check the drawer in the nightstand. Text me if the house catches on fire.
-Sam
It is, of course, incredibly vague, but he hopes Steve will figure things out once Peggy shows up. All that's left for him to do is clear out; in addition to his overnight bag, he grabs the gauntlet he uses to control Redwing and the drone in the carrying harness Tony's made for him. Once he's at the Sanctum, he sets everything up and sends Redwing back with the key and the note. Which isn't suspicious at all, of course, but he's not going to leave the key out for anyone to find. When Steve approaches, Redwing drops the envelope on his head - not quite literally - and Sam texts Wanda with a short and simple the eagle has landed.

It's not even a question. while the chips fall into place, she looks suspiciously around the kitchen, the gesture both intimidating and comical. a second later, she passes him, making certain to pass him the bottle of Moscato as she does. upon seeing the dining table ( flowers, candles ) she makes a noise - either a huff or a growl before stomping back to the kitchen.
"Steve Rogers," her tone is both imperious and far-too-calm-to-be-true, "your friends are bloody out of their minds."
Apparently, it's crucial that she alerts him to the fact.

"Oh, you won't hear any arguments from me. They are," Steve responded with a grin. He set the bottle onto the counter and reached for the letter to show her. "It looks like dinner is already prepared and everything is set up. It'd be really rude to not take advantage of that, you know?" His not so sly way in asking her to stay and have dinner with him.
He'd get Sam later but the possibility of having an entire night with Peggy made his heart flutter. They never really had the chance before - too many bombs and gun fire usually took up their days and nights.

"Dinner?" she asks and not without a lip curving into a small smile of a sort. waste not want not, she would say but she doubts he's asking her for the sake of effectiveness, anyway.
she goes over the letter, arching both her eyebrows.
"Just dinner? are you not going to invite me to the guest room?"
dear lord, she shouldn't be teasing the poor man so ruthlessly. This isn't even his fault or his doing.

A smile filled his face but faltered somewhat with Peggy's teasing. Oh. He probably should have remembered the actual contents of the letter. Might have been helpful to the actual features of the date.
"Do you want to go to the guest room?" Steve asked, trying really hard to not blush at the meaning behind the term.

She gives him a bit of a look, arched eyebrows and a smile she doesn't have the time or the will to bite back. he's either very bold or extremely awkward, she remembers the latter, of course but both options have their charm.
"I think perhaps you ought to care to that lasagna first, Captain. It's twenty past seven."
She could have reminded him before but this is much more entertaining.

"I'll get the plates fixed up," Steve commented, still unable to keep his eyes away from Peggy for long. "I know how this sounds but this really feels like I'm dreaming, Pegs."

"shall I pinch you?" she asks and not without a small grin. she wants to tell him - she almost does. she feels it too. she was never affected by dr. fenhoff's hallucinations but she already knows what ideal image she would have seen.
"I don't know if you would feel it at all, I fear."
