OTA LOG: ACID RAIN EDITION

1. RESCUES IN THE ACIDIC RAIN.

[ Whenever Loki ventures out into the foul weather he conjures a green magical shield, the same he last used when Leah's construct was attempting to sever his head in Mother's dimension. Droplets that spatter all over it flash a pale lime-gold so that it appears he may be walking around in a glittery bubble, but the fact remains he only dons the protective enchantment to get from Point A to Point B; reaching outside of it is an unpleasant experience even for him.

That's how it starts, anyway.

He eventually finds himself an inadvertent taxi service for anyone caught in the downpour. Whether it's a person hunched down against an abandoned vendor's cart, someone shrieking in a panic as their tenth umbrella of the day turns to tatters, or reluctantly agreeing to ferry food from one household to another (no good deed is too menial for him this week) the God of Mischief is obliging to those in need.

But he doesn't decline any rewards for services rendered, either. ]

2. FIREFLY AT 2AM.

[ The magical shield also happens to glow in the dark, making it a point of interest for anyone with eyes who happens to spot Loki moving around the Quarantine like a mobile nightlight, along the streets and up the glassy walls of skyscrapers. Green orbs swish overhead and light his way as though streetlamps are bobbing along at his request.

If anyone wants one, they are free to shout him over from their hidey-hole. There's not much else to see out there that wanders around so casually in a corrosive downpour, let your curiosity take over. ]

3. A REAL BOAR OF A TIME.

[ With his spellcraft invulnerable to something as ordinarily challenging as acid rain for everyone else, one way or another word gets out about what Loki can do and he feels compelled to help some of the teams ranging out into the jungle intent on setting up their scientific dohickies. The most important turn of events, he feels, is that with his full-body bubbleshield there is no need for a fugly bodysuit, while on the flipside his permanent shimmer in the drab conditions mean that Loki is often requested to head up the front of a party.

When boars attack, the green glow of his shield is joined by the crimson glimmer of his ancestral blade Laevateinn, slashing down their beastly opponents in two or three nimble strikes. Curious why it doesn't take much more effort than that? Loki himself will shrug and tell you, ]

The blade cuts through any hide.

[ It can be intensely handy sometimes when people can bear to have such a dangerous thing around, much like Loki himself. Additionally, he provides marshmallows for those hard at work in the jungle. ]

4. DRAINED.

[ A near daily, constant use of sorcery has Loki on edge during rare moments, rubbing his head as he takes refuge in shops and under eaves of buildings when his headache worsens. He can be found with his feet up on overcast veranda benches, taking a break from supporting his own shield and the magical orbs loaned out across the city, tired-eyed and usually nibbling at a snack for an energy boost. Not that he needs to eat anything, it's more a comfort thing. Mental rousing.

Anyone who spots him will find he doesn't leave in a hurry when approached and those who depend on his magical orbs are free to call him up and find out why their rooms have suddenly gone dark. ]

[ He grimaces slightly before taking a sip. The party had been his idea and his work, even with the help of Taako and Victor. It had gone well and the success of it was a strangely lit flame in his heart he has yet to decipher. No one in Asgard would consider this instance to be anything of worth, so Loki finds himself automatically dismissing it in one minute and rebelling that thought in the next. ]

I doubt it. I did that for Gramarye and to continue my work. Nothing more. What do I have to gain from fanciful parties?

A reputable reputation.

[ The same as his club somewhat provides, at least insofar as 'Loki doesn't need to steal money when he has an income' goes. It's a quaint cover. ]

[dothelokimotion]

[ His nose crinkles at that. ]

As useful as that might be, I am not sure it is the right fit for myself. I do not have your . . . social graces.

[ikols]

That's why you're lucky to be such a talented liar.

[ His own social graces are more parodies, honed over time. ]

What bothers you about people? Besides, well, them being them.

[dothelokimotion]

As amusing as it might be to play the part, it gets tiresome after a while.

[ And he's played at being Odin, being the dutiful son. The villain and the maverick. He's taken on enough roles. His gaze slides over to his other self. ]

The same that bothers you. They're limited in nature. And yet they think they can discuss ours.

[ikols]

We happen to be famous, which is more than can be said for the masses.

[ It makes him laugh to think of it in such simplified terms, tossing his hair and preening to try and earn a smile in return. ]

[dothelokimotion]

[ He chuckles, shaking his head quietly. ]

It is entertaining to watch their tiny minds wrap themselves around the logistics of our existence.

[ Flexing his fingers, Loki lets go of the glass. The perspiration sticks to his skin. ]

But it comes and goes. Transient in nature as they are. There is nothing to hold onto.

You have to stop thinking of the bigger picture, change is the only constant for us. Enjoy the little things, the little people, whether they'll be around in a thousand years or not. [ Loki sets down his own drink and offers a hand, a little damp too. ] Don't alter everything about yourself in order to fit in, just work on a presentable front.

[dothelokimotion]

[ Loki's fingers circle the palm, trailing invisible, indecipherable patterns. To anyone else, it looks like play. To his other self, it is both a tease and an acceptance. There are little boundaries that they fear with each other, but some things are simply not spoken aloud. ]

And how is that working so far? You seemed absent of late. Quieter.

[ikols]

I went on another little mission, this time with no Avengers. A marked improvement. James Kirk led the expedition, it turned into a technology-based hunt more than anything but it was fun to stretch my legs away from the city.

I've been bothering my Stark some, too.

[ A tickle invades Loki's palm and he repays it in kind. He doesn't seem too emotive on the topic of Tony, mostly because he knows his twin may speak of it to Tony's BFF in private. ]

[ That's how it is with Days of Our Lives the Marvel Edition.

He hums, noncommittal. Stark is not his concern, after all. Doing missions though . . . it's strange to picture but Loki can understand the value of it. He doubts that it would do much for his image. His other self is more likely to pull that off more convincingly without Loki imitating him.

All in all . . . Loki still has doubts but he lets them rest for now. Concern is not an emotion he knows how to display or prove. ]

He invited me for a drink though I know not what he wishes to discuss. Perhaps simply to debate against my cynical nature.

Kirk and his lover are strange men. Or I suppose, they are what men hope to be in the future though I have yet to see such signs.

Kirk is a hero, he's a brilliantly brave sort of dog compared to the rest of the kennel, with a bite as bad as his bark. Not a fool, albeit with blind spots.

[ He shrugs. ]

I say meet with him.

[dothelokimotion]

[ His lips curls despite himself. ]

I have little patience for heroes.

[ikols]

One wonders why we bother to court them.

[dothelokimotion]

Or why we bother at all.

[ Try and try again, the patented method for failure. ]

You seem to be on more of a downer than I am. Care to share?

[ Whyever he came to this little Loki-centric sanctuary where no one is as important as them. ]

[dothelokimotion]

I am a natural "downer".

[ He imitates Stephen's gesture of air quotes. ]

And I simply came to . . . check up on you.

[ikols]

Oh, I think you came for more than that, as you can see I'm just peachy and you're in no hurry to leave.

[ A smile quirks, however. 'Downer', too true. ]

So why don't you indulge me.

[dothelokimotion]

[ Loki bristles much like a cat would and his tone is waspish. ]

If you prefer I left, it is plainer to say so.

[ikols]

[ So there is something. ]

Don't be a silly elf, no one wants you to leave. Why won't you speak with me properly about the things that matter enough to drive you to check up on another you?

[dothelokimotion]

[ If Loki had an ounce of Thor's ability to speak easily, it would not be an issue. Instead he sinks into the seat with an irritable hiss. ]

Are you saying you do not matter?

[ikols]

I matter a great deal, which is why I worry about you.

[ The toe of his boot pokes his twin's ankle. ]

[dothelokimotion]

I am fine.

[ He huffs, his irritation seeping away. ]

It is the usual malaise and fear, nothing more. Being here confuses me. I am not as adaptable as you.

[ikols]

You haven't lived on Earth for a few years, no, but you're doing far better than I used to.

[ Lifting Loki's knuckles to his lips, he buffs a dry kiss there with green eyes locked on his face. ]

Malaise and fear aren't supposed to be a baseline. What scares you?

[dothelokimotion]

[ His gaze skitters away, as it does when Loki feels the weight of his words overwhelm him. ]

Everything scares me.
