[ Cain, true to his word, scopes something out before he bugs Loki about meeting up. It isn't anything terribly fancy, nor is it Earth-based, but it has food that's close enough for him to figure it'll be good for lunch and while he's getting a seat and letting the staff know he's meeting someone on their lunch breaks, he texts Loki the location.

Really, a lot of his motivation is boredom. That's basically his biggest motivator here, boredom and curiosity, things that push him to get up and get out and talk to people and understand this new world. On the other hand... he wasn't lying about enjoying their conversations, and there's a certain attachment forming there that he's pretty sure Loki is in no place to accept right now. The god's demeanor is definitely not open for friendship out of the blue so he'll get them closer before dropping that bombshell maybe.

Guess I'm just used to it by now. You can't exactly put people on hold, but avoiding them doesn't work either. [ Cain tilts his head, gaze curious. ] Have you dealt with that before?

I did not know any mortals personally until I came here.

[ The Avengers don't count. Jane would, but she was unconscious for most of their trip to the Dark World. ]

[ He nods. ]

You haven't been here long, though. So you're just thinking about what will come?

I do not fear the inevitable.

[ Says Loki, who totally fears the inevitable. Who made it happen. Who fought and raged against it. Whose own fears made the inevitable real. ]

I didn't say you feared it, but it's worth thinking about. Whether it's worth pursuing anything if it doesn't last. Right?

I have magic. The study of it is endless.

[ Loki, this is not a proper retort, this is you being childish. ]

You've always had magic. People here, not so much.

[ But Loki lets it pass. ]

Though I suppose I cannot argue against the pursuit of knowledge. I am no different.

You started from a higher point, though. [ He tilts his head to the side. ] Your people being so much more advanced and all.

It did lead to some stagnation on their part. Not even advanced races are perfect.

That would just be boring. Not that stagnation isn't, but... [ He laughs softly. ] Guess this place is a breath of fresh air for everyone. Different, anyway.

An oddly convenient one at that.

Being pulled out of our realities for indeterminate amounts of time is convenient?

You don't think so?

[ Loki waves a hand flippantly. ] They come in calculated spurts of time, in limited number. People come and go, as if we are at a . . . resort.

Better than making it a prison if it has to happen. "Has to," for whatever that means here.

It may not be a prison, but it is still convenient at times we do not expect it to be. Things fall into place.

I won't argue that. Maybe someone's smiling on us.

[ His sardonic look is enough to say what he really thinks about that. Yeah right. ]

As a vague deity, I can't say I'm thrilled with the idea.

[ The idea of Thanos being close by is enough to make him sweat. ]

Or maybe it's all just fueled by our own efforts without any meddling. People are capable of good things, who knew?

[ It really could be anything, but Loki's right: there's no real precedent for how... smooth things are here. ]

I certainly didn't.

[ Well. Something like that. ]

Speaking of... Mind if I ask what the culture is like where you're from?

[ Nothing invasive, but he's curious. It's so intertwined with an Earth culture, as far as myths go, that he wonders if perhaps they didn't actually inherit more than just stories from them. ]

Our aesthetics are simple. What worked many years ago, akin to the Norse we visited centuries ago, is still in effect.

[ The food arrives which gives something for Loki to do with his hands. He takes a tentative bite. ]

[ Cain watches with his peripheral vision, starting to eat his own. It isn't a matter of pride... okay maybe it is a little, he can't help but feel intrinsically connected to whatever comes out of that corner of the world. His touch has long since faded but as someone still there to observe, it's like watching kids grow up. So sue him. ]

Thus stagnation. That's a shame.

Things will change once Thor is king.

[ And he will be. Loki's hold of the throne is temporary. He'd be fool to think otherwise. ]

For the better?

[ He's met Thor, and he's met kings and he's met pretty much everything in between. Not to say people can't have ways of surprising you, but... ]
